For years have had trouble with vertigo

Posted By Freudianslip (New York, NY) on 09/01/2014

I have had vertigo for years, but didn't experience frequent attacks. A few months ago I had my thyroid removed and am taking Syntoriod. Since then, I have had 3 bouts of extreme dizziness, if not full vertigo 'spins'. I went to an ENT and the tests determined I have a vesticular imbalance in my left ear. I happen to have lost hearing in that ear a long long time ago due to infections. Because of that the ENT sent me for an MRI saying she couldn't diagnose my problem because of the dead nerve in that ear. I also have genital herpes, and a doc told me that can greatly affect you with more viral infections.

I cannot work with these dizzy attacks and like many of you have stated it feels debilitating.

I am seeing the ENT in a few days to see what her diagnosis is from the MRI. Initially, she told me I was having a migrane and gave me a drug called sumatriptan, which only helped moderately. Drinking water seems to help a bit. I notice these attacks always start when I wake up, but also, when I feel exhausted and run down upon going to sleep. I feel I can almost predict them.

I have been reading all the homeopathic solutions and feel a bit less overwhelmed.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Once I hear from the ENT I may try implementing the most suitable ones.

It's impossible to convey to someone who has not experienced the vertigo and dizziness how awful it feels.

peace

Hello Freudian Slip;

Re your vertigo:

You report your history (aside from the Thyroid removal and prescription drug you take which I will discuss later)...you report the ear infection and herpes infection which your doctor told you could be contributing in a viral capacity to the vertigo. I'm reading a lot into what you said but it seems to be what was communicated.

Well, you have a viral infection in the ear causing the vertigo. My take on it anyway.

Solution is to kill the virus and I use Silver water or "colloidal silver"...and this can be purchased in most health food stores. If the virus has gone into the cerebellum in the back of the brain from the ear infection, that could be a more serious cause of balance problems than an ear infection impacting the inner ear.

Assuming the problem is inner ear, if me, I'd take ear syringe and gently squirt ear with CS. Two or three times a day. Chart changes in your balance. I'd try for a week to measure results.

If I really thought the infection had entered brain then there is a way to transport CS into the brain, but I'd assume the best and first I'd try the syringe method into ear. Maybe killing the virus (if that's what it is) will get the balance under control.

On the issue of the possible side effect of the drug you are taking, I couldn't find the drug as you spelled it, but there is a drug with a name close to your spelling and even though that drug had MANY side effects, I didn't see vertigo as one of them but I believe that many drug's side effects are not fully listed by manufacturers. So I wouldn't discount the possible side effect as vertigo...the drug might be adding to the problem of balance difficulty.

HI Dave,

Thanks much for your feedback. I'm seeing a specialist today to see if I do in fact have Meniere's disease. The drug I take is a thyroid replacement called Levothyroxine. I will mention collodial silver to him and see what he says. Best wishes
