Can't Walk Without Taking Gabapentin - Seeking Natural Alternatives

Posted By Jenna (Dallas, Texas) on 04/08/2023

Dear Ted, I broke both of my legs in January 2019 walking on a treadmill and spent a year confined to a wheelchair. During that time, my body went crazy. I went from a very active athletic person to doing PT everyday. I had several cervical sprains and My doctors couldn't figure out why I couldn't walk. Finally after a year, I was diagnosed with fibro and Lyme's. My migraines had spiraled out of control as well. My rheumatologist prescribed me Gabapentin to help with the Fibro and within 2 days, I was walking. I thought this would be a temporary solution until I could figure out what was causing the disconnect between my brain and legs.

I did try to switch medication from my doctor's recommendation and within hours, I could no longer walk and immediately had to go home to take the Gabapentin. Within 30 mins, I was walking again. I have always been one to seek natural approaches and it's been frustrating to get told I'm a medical mystery and no one has answers. I've seen no less than 20 doctors and none of them know why I can't get walk without Gabapentin. I'm hoping you can shed some insight. :) Thank you in advance for your time.

Sincerely,
Jenna

Hi Jenna, I would look into DMSO. Internally 1 teaspoon in distilled water daily to start. For nerve support, lecithin in high doses and alpha lipoic acid. Perhaps you can ween off the gabapentin. If you haven't eliminated the Lyme, please look into teasel (an herb). It can bring complete eradication of the spirochete.

It could be LEMS. There are videos on YT showing that LEMS symptoms could be sudden or appear overnight-legs just give out. It is an autoimmune condition caused by onco-neural antibodies. There is LEMS private group on YT. Treatments do exist. Read the article: Lambert–Eaton myasthenic syndrome: from clinical characteristics to therapeutic strategies. Most doctors, even neurologists, never had one LEMS patient, but they do know about it. Eye doctors can also diagnose LEMS when there are symptoms affecting eyes/vision.

Did they test you for LEMS-Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome? A paraneoplastic panel is a must.

Watch some videos on earthing / grounding with Clint Ober on YouTube.

Earthing won't help. She needs to get Paraneoplastic panel done to see what antibodies she is positive for. My guess P/Q VGCC. The treatments and further diagnosis/course of treatments will depend on the antibody type. LEMS could be diagnosed even if a person is negative for paraneoplastic antibodies, based on well defined clinical symptoms.
