Excessive Bleeding, Possibly From Supplements, After Dental Surgery

Posted By Shadel (Nebraska) on 04/26/2017

After dental surgery, today, my dentist mentioned that maybe my supplements caused excess bleeding. The bleeding didn't stop (and clot) for approximately 30 to 40 minutes. I knew I had an infection, so I took extra colloidal silver (500 ppm) 3 to 4 times a day, plus ascorbic acid the same amount of times a day. My dentist was concerned about the bleeding. Could anyone tell me if this could be caused from extra vitamins, etc? I also take herbal reishi mushroom, beet root and magnesium. Is there a blood test for clotting? Thank you for your reply.

The ascorbic acid does cause bleeding in gums.

I have also read that taking reishi mushroom before surgery is not recommended.

It increases the risk of bleeding in some people. It is recommended to stop using this at least 2 weeks before surgery.

Hi Shadel, Yes, too much vitamin C will cause bleeding. Cayenne pepper contains vitamin C but will stop bleeding. It will also dissolve blood clots.
