Lorena, for women in general that have hair loss, a dry scalp is only another symptom of the problem, not the real cause.

Sudden hair loss is usually caused by severe stress on some internal organs like the liver and thyroid. These organs are more concerned with fighting the perceived dangers of keeping you alive than to "waste" nutrient fuel on maintaining a healthy scalp and head of hair.

This severe stress can be chemotherapy, other prescribed heavy-duty medication for some other serious disease, or a basic thyroid health problem(usually underactive or hypothyroid).

You need to examine which of these applies and then proceed accordingly.

Hair loss in adult women is usually caused by hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Other symptoms include, being more sensitive to cold, constipation, depression, fatigue, feeling slowed down, heavy menstrual periods, joint and muscle aches, paleness, dry skin, brittle nails and unintentional weight gain.

Inflammation is the leading cause of hypothyroidism (radiation exposure is second). Going on an anti-inflammatory diet and taking virgin coconut oil will be very helpful. If your thyroid gland is damaged enough, however, you may need to replace the hormone.
