Diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia

Posted By Angie (Cuernavaca, Mexico) on 11/05/2014

Hi, I was told yesterday that I had endometrial hyperplasia by my gynecologist when I went in for my pap smear and she did an ultrasound on me as well. She said and showed me the thickening in the uterine wall and then told me that I still produced estrogen as she saw a follicle (I think that's what she called it) and that I should take some pills that are called Duphaston which controls the growth and normal shedding of the womb lining,

I understood they are some sort of progesterone to compensate the estrogen and balance the two. The thing is, my menstruation stopped about 6 years ago and I am 58 now and apprently these pills are to be taken for 10 days and then after five I'd get my period again and that way it would shed the abnormal growth in the womb. I don't want to start all my menstruation again as I feel it is playing around with a woman's normal cycle in life, so, was wondering what your opinion would be anyone? I have my doubts as always about doctors recommendations anyway, no offense intended to anyone but without even having a blood test to see which hormone is out of balance, she just sent me right away some pills. Any suggestions please?

Dear Angie,

I understand your hesitancy to taking the prescription progesterone. I found some information about your condition here:

http://www.acog.org/-/media/For-Patients/faq147.pdf?dmc=1&ts=20141105T2118417940

One thing I noticed in the reading is that there is a link to things like Polycystic Ovary Disease, Diabetes, Gall Bladder Disease and Thyroid disease. I am wondering if you have any of these conditions? If you have any of these conditions and they are not under control, getting them under control may help.

I also would rather have some bloodwork done before being given a prescription. (And then I still might look for alternatives! )

One odd thing is that the primary symptom of this condition is abnormal bleeding, of which you have none.

I agree that it seems abnormal to get you cycling again, so to speak.

Hi Angie, you could ask your dr for a prescription for natural progesterone cream instead of a synthetic prescription drug that has side effects.

Have a look into iodine as it regulates hormones. Look specifically into "the iodine protocol" - Bill has posted the links in his recent posts. The iodine protocol has been very helpful to me. All the best and God bless.
