Daughter flaring with dandruff and eczema

Posted By Terri (Greenville, Sc) on 08/01/2012

Hi Ted, My daughter is 4 years old and was born with seborheic dermatitis in her scalp, food allergies and eczema as well. Just recently I had another baby this past December. My daughter's SD and eczema flared up more. Her eye lids, neck are red and inflamed and she has dandruff. This never happened, it was usually just on her head and was never itch. Her chest, belly, knee and it seems like it's all over her body too. She has been on steroid creme but it just keeps coming back. Now, I believe the stress of this new addition to the family affected her plus the lack of Vit. D/sunlight. She's been going through a lot of stress and we are trying to work on that. I started juicing carrots, apples, and some blue berries. I heard it could also be Bitoin defieciency. She is also on Multi-vitamins. I will be getting some cod liver oil to add as well. I've been putting ACV (raw) in her bath and tea tree oil but she's still flared up. What other vitamins do you suggest for someone that young? Also trying to reduce stress and adding more sunlight early in the morning. Also, when we go out in the heat right now her whole face turns red and flares up even more. Could this be a sign of yeast infection? If it is, what can I do. She gets so itchy at night and scratches her eyebrows and eyelids and all over her body and gets all red. Please help! Thanks!

P.S. She is avoinding dairy, gluten, eggs, soy, legumes, peanuts due to allergies since she was a child.

Probiotic rich foods like kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut and other fermented veggies can be very helpful in eliminating eczema, dandruff and the like.

If you live in the US, you can find BUBBIES brand Sauerkraut and dill pickles in the refrigerated section of a grocery store. A tablespoon couple of times a day can also do the trick in ingesting high amounts of probiotics.

Green banana will rebuild the leaky guts. Leaky guts can be a source for allergies and eczema.

"Green bananas contain indigestible (to humans) short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) that are a favorite food of the cells that make up the lining of the intestines. When these cells are well-nourished and healthy, the body's ability to absorb nutrients such as calcium can increase dramatically."

"Also, to check how well their intestines were able to absorb nutrients, the babies were given a drink containing lactulose and mannitol. Lactulose is a compound that should be absorbed, while mannitol is one that should not be. When the intestines are too permeable, a condition clinicians call "leaky gut, " too little lactulose and too much mannitol are absorbed. After just one week of being given the green banana-rice diet, the babies' were absorbing much more lactulose and little mannitol, showing that their intestines were now functioning properly."

08/01/2012: Terri from Greenville, Sc: Terri, it's sad to hear that your daughter has to go through this... I've previously put up on EC my own experience with my son when he was 12 months old. His eczema spread rapidly and when he scratched, it broke my heart. I very quickly had him to a naturopath who diagnosed him with sulphur deficiency and it was healed, never to return within 1 or 2 days of taking the sulphur drops. Google sulphur, it's a common deficiency in the body which affects the skin... (and very easily obtained in some form) good luck!

I also recommend Milk Kefir. Milk kefir is a god sent food. It will cure most of the skin diseases when applied externally and taken internally. It has zero lactose, and the proteins are pre digested by bacteria and yeasts so any kinda of allergic reaction to it is impossible.

For skin diseases, you can see change even in 1 day. try original home made milk kefir. Hope this helps.

What has helped me with dandruff is after shampooing rinsing with about 1/4 cup of white vinegar and warm water. A few times a week.</P>My eczema has been helped by scrubbing with soap (not too hard) but firm and rinsing with about 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm water daily.
