Dear Judy, I get that sometimes when I have wax in my ears.
Hydrogen peroxide (3%, brown bottle from the drugstore) into the ear daily and let it sit for 15 minutes will dissolve the wax over time.
Even if the crackling isn't wax, the peroxide may help.
