Could Blackstrap Molasses Use Actually Have a Negative Effect on Menstrual

Hello, I've been reading this site for years; I love it and I've told many people about it. But I think I finally have a question that I haven't yet seen asked on this site:

A few months ago I started putting a spoonful (less than a tablespoon?) of blackstrap molasses in my morning coffee because of the wonderful things I'd read about it on this site.

The very first taste and I was in love - couldn't bear the thought of going back to white sugar. The problem, though, began to appear shortly afterwards:

I've had fairly normal periods my entire life: 3-5 days, fairly light, minimal cramping, etc. - very fortunate.

But within a month of taking the molasses, I had a 12 day extremely heavy and cramping period, 11 days later I had another very long and highly uncomfortable one, then less than three weeks later another one - maybe only 7 or 8 days - and then a week later, another longer than normal and heavier than normal period. I should say all with more clotting than usual (so sorry about tmi).

I'm 48 1/2 and was hoping - at first - that perhaps this was just the beginning of some of the crazy stuff I've heard about perimenopause, but the timing is suspect since it all happened so suddenly within a few weeks of starting molasses.

I've very reluctantly gone off of the molasses to test this - it's been less than a week and I am VERY unhappy with my morning coffee now - but I thought I'd write in and see if anyone else has had such an opposite effect with this stuff?

Everything else on this site that I've read regarding molasses and periods has been high praise from women who've suffered their whole lives, and credit molasses for making them 'normal' - but I already was 'normal' and now I'm definitely and decidedly NOT.

By the way: I am taking the organic, unsulfered, blackstrap molasses.

Thanks to anyone and everyone who might have any ideas about this - I feel so deprived having to make do with white sugar in my coffee...

With regard to the comments about having a normal period and then after taking the BSM, it became erratic... I too have the problem. Mine started almost immediately. I was at the beginning of my cycle when I started the BSM. Suddenly, I felt this extreme pressure / cramping in my lower abdomin. The next thing I knew I just felt this gush. I got up quickly and blood was running down my legs. Thats when the huge blood clots started to appear. That lasted about two days, period went silent. A week later, it came back with a vengeance, heavy bleeding, heavy clotting, I had to change tampons every hour. It has now been two weeks since this second period started. I am so exhausted. I made an appt with my gyn this week. But, I need the BSM for the vitamin and mineral content.

Why do you guys just stop taking the BSM. It does not seem worth it. Make due without the taste and add brown sugar and cinnamon water. And for the other lady get the minerals another way. It's worth for you guys to test if it is indeed the BSM dont u think??

Hope you feel better soon!
