Can Natural Remedies Help Pseudomyopia?

Posted By Gena (Cleveland, Ohio) on 04/08/2017

Hello, I'm 14, and I have a problem. Two years ago, I was having horrible headaches, and they would go on for days on no end. My mother noticed this, and she took me to the optometrist to get my eyes checked, and turns out I needed glasses. Disclaimer, my eyes weren't that bad, but they weren't 20/20 either. I wore my glasses everyday for a year, until they broke. After that, my dad insisted that I only wear them when I absolutely need to, for school. At the start of this year, I noticed that even when I wore my glasses, I still couldn't see that well. This got me thinking. Recently I asked my dad why my eyes were so bad. He said there could be a number of different reasons, and he brought up that it could be because I use my phone a lot to read, that my eyes have adjusted to focusing on things up close, and it could go away. I researched this and found it was called Pseudomyopia. I was wondering if there was any way I could tell if I have this condition, and how to improve my vision naturally.

Thank You.

Hello Gena;

About your eye situation. Yes your dad is correct. And anyone who is looking at computers all day or who looks a lot on line at fine lines like charts, for instance will find their vision diminished. I'm on the internet a lot and here is what I do to reduce the damage. Every 10 minutes, I quit looking at the computer and instead look outside at distant objects ....I let my vision look at a closer object outside and then go back to a very distant set of trees. I repeat this little eye normalization exercise for a few minutes. Then I can go back to the computer for fifteen or twenty minutes. When ended always finish with the relaxing re adjustment of eyes by looking at distant objects.

Gena: Zinc & Vit-A are the two nutrients most needed for eye health, unfortunately many people don't get enough in their diet or all the bad food additives keep them depleted. Taking a high quality Multivitamin/mineral supplement should improve this but improving your diet will also help. Liver & Eggs are the top two performed Vit-A foods and Zinc is rare in food except Liver or maybe Blackstrap Molasses. If you don't have liver disease or diabetes, foods high in Carotinoids will help, which include Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Squash. Any high antioxidant foods like berries will help. Or you can take a supplement that contains all the nutrients needed for your eyes at the health food store. It should have many of these nutrients:

  • Lutein
  • Zeaxanthin
  • NAC or Glutathione
  • Taurine
  • Beta Caroteine
  • Zinc
