Blind After Stroke, Please Suggest Remedies That Might Help

Posted By Ozma (Daytona Beach, Fl) on 12/25/2020

6 weeks ago I had an ischemic stroke to my left occipital, which has caused me to lose 50% of my vision in each eye. Neurologist and Ophthalmologist both say nothing can be done, it's not an eye issue, it is a brain issue. I may regain some, or all, of my vision in the next several months...or I may be half blind the rest of my life. Would appreciate any and all comments.

Dear Ozma,

I am so sorry to hear it!

I would do all you can to nourish your brain and allow it to heal.

I am reading a really interesting book about caregiving. It is the perspective of a wife who takes care of her husband after his stroke. It is amazing to read about how his brain really did do a lot of healing.

Are you getting any type of physical therapy after your stroke? If so, stick with it! It is more important than you might think.

I would recommend doing what you can to keep your brain active - large print word searches and crossword puzzles, listening to classical music, and even a daily walk for good circulation.

The brain is made largely of fat and needs good fats like quality coconut oil and olive oil.

The body does a lot of healing during sleep. Make sure you are getting good sleep and nap if you need to.

Take good care of yourself and keep us posted!

I am very sorry to learn of your stroke. Brain formula, nerve formula, cayenne, eyebright formula, and other herbal combinations may help. Please see herbdoc .com. Also, juicing and drinking organic only greens juices, carrot juice, beet juice, vegetable juices, sprout juices, and a hihas-raw vegan food program with no cooked foods. Cleansing of colon first followed by cleansing of liver, kidney/bladder, is important. Herbdoc has the cleansing and detox kits. Wish you all the best.

Hello Ozma,

This happened to me in early 1999. Unfortunately, I have found nothing that helps. Perhaps some of what I have learned about the condition may help you.

In my case my vision loss is less than 50%. It never got better or worse. If you think of your field of vision as the face of a clock, I lost vision from approximately 10:00 to 12:00 down to the center of the dial.

Low light or what I call flat light, overcast, no shadows or no significant contrast are the worst.

Later in the day I have to watch out for a different reason. Amazingly, my brain fills in the blind spot. All though this is good for my spirit not to be acutely reminded of the problem, it can be downright dangerous. You have to be careful.

What I do to compensate is I scan from left to right, from the outer edge of the field of vision inward to the center. When reading if I look at the last letter of a word I don‘t see the letters to the left. Horizontal line scanning left to right really helps. Same thing when looking at someone’s face.

The vision loss is markedly less frustrating when I am well rested. Power napping is a huge help. I wear glasses and find that non-glare lens coatings also help.

I doubt there are any documented studies to confirm this but in my case, I think playing video games helps my brain learn to process what I do see perhaps a little differently. Probably more because of my age, I am terrible at video games but I feel there is a benefit.

Since it only has been 6 weeks, there is reason for optimism.

I got double-vision after thyroid imbalance triggered swollen muscles around my eyes, which pushed the optical nerve off kilter. Was told it would only get worse and once stabilized, surgery.

An online intuitive healer told me to stop eating my daily non-organic crackers, the GMO's were harming my eyesight. I stopped and within a month I'm back driving & only moon & stars are double, on-earth sight is great :)

My diet is 95% organic already, those crackers were one of my few indulgences. No more!

Research using DMSO for helping your brain after a stroke. It is usually suggested to take it internally asap after the stroke. I am a firm believer in trying it even though it has been 6+ weeks. It is extremely useful for inflammation, pain and many other body benefits. Please look into it.

Hi,

I found best thing for pain/ inflammation is quality dmso (glass bottle). See on YouTube Dr Stanley Jacobs dmso 60 minutes. I have heard a lot about using dmso after stroke, ASAP. You can take several times per day for months. Some places will IV it, which I would do if I could. Best wishes.
