Bleeding From Fibroids After Menopause

Bleeding fibroids

I have fibroids. My first surgery to remove them was 1996. I was told they would grow back. Started spotting in 2021 after being placed on eliquis for blood clots un the lungs. Had a d&c in 2021. Doctor wants me to have a hysterectomy. I am 64 and do not wish to have this surgery. A month ago started bleeding with dark old blood. Two weeks ago started on a fibroid cleanse hoping to shrink these fibroids. I was told that when I reached menopause the fibroids would shrink. I am not sure if the bleeding means they are shrinking but I am hopeful because I really don't want to have the surgery.

Joyce,

If that plan doesn't pan out for you, vitamin D, melatonin and berberine may help according to the following studies :

Melatonin

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31710386/

A relevant quote from the study :

' Melatonin-induced apoptosis and autophagy cell death progression were observed in ELT3 cells. Melatonin exerts a highly selective effect on primary normal human uterine smooth muscle (UtSMC) cells. The UtSMC cell cycle was arrested by melatonin treatment through up-regulation of p21, p27, and PTEN protein expression, but melatonin did not further promote apoptosis program activation. Melatonin reduced cell proliferation in ELT3 cells underlying the activation of melatonin MT1 and MT2 receptors, which in turn down-regulated the Akt-ERK1/2-NFκB signaling pathway. '

Vitamin D

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35960442/

A relevant quote from the review of multiple studies :

' Vitamin D treatment of fibroid cells decreased proliferation, extracellular matrix protein expression, and Wnt/β-catenin signaling. Fourteen clinical studies (n = 3535 participants) assessed serum vitamin D level in women with ultrasound-proven fibroids, and all found an inverse correlation between serum vitamin D level and presence of fibroids. Five clinical studies (n = 472 patients) evaluated treatment of fibroids with vitamin D. Four of five studies showed vitamin D significantly inhibited fibroid growth. One pilot study (n = 109 patients) of vitamin D for secondary prevention of fibroids demonstrated smaller recurrent fibroids in the treated group. These studies provide evidence for vitamin D as a therapy for uterine fibroids and underscore the need for well-designed, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials. '

Berberine

https://www.fertstert.org/article/S0015-0282(15)00047-3/fulltext

Here is a relevant quote :

' BBR selectively inhibits cellular proliferation and blocks E2- and P4-induced cell proliferation in UtLM but not in normal UtSMC cells. In addition, BBR did not demonstrate cytotoxicity effects in normal human UtSMCs. Our results suggest BBR could be a potential therapeutic agent for the treatment of uterine leiomyoma. '

Hello Joyce,

Are you still taking Estrogen? I am no expert, but I can tell you a little about my fibroid story. A few things that seem to add life to fibroids are blood, and Estrogen.

When my ministration stopped at 55 years of age, my fibroid bleeding stopped. I was not on hormone replacement. Vitamin E was my dry, cool and calm pill. It was all I knew at the time. I had no complaints of anything after I started it, and neither did my doctors offer me anything.

Some years later when I noticed my energy flying out the door I tried to drag some of it back in, so I did a little reading on hormones. I laughed and laughed when a reviewer on Amazon said, she started taking DHEA and she got her monthly back. She said she was on a walker. I was thinking to myself these people just make up stuff, when you are finished you are finished. "That is what I thought."

My monthly had stopped about a decade when I read this about DHEA, so for the good reports I wanted to try it. I started very low and I had no problems.

Everything was as expected until this year. I had an interesting experience as I was trying to restore moisture to my mouth and skin. I had read where a reviewer said they used Estrogen for all their dryness so I wanted to give Estrogen a try. I brought the cream pump bottle. I am 71 so I figure no problem. Each day I rubbed a little on my throat, and it felt good. I kept taking my DHEA.

About a month later Bam! I began bleeding. Two months later same thing happened. I took some cayenne pepper to help with a quick stop. And I put the Estrogen cream away.

This may not be your situation, but perhaps someone else in Post Menopause will stop bleeding if they cut down on the Estrogen. Also, the cayenne may help stop the bleeding.

My fibroid story, bleeding stopped when my monthly stopped, and seemly when my hormone levels dropped.
