BILL'S CANDIDA PROTOCOL OK FOR HASHIMOTO'S

Posted By Meg In Illinois (Peoria, Il) on 04/15/2012

Hi, found your website tonight while looking further for treatments for my candida, which I believe is severe. I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I researched much on my Hashimoto's disease and treating my candida seems a piece of the treatment. I have found expensive store bought treatments, but want to try Bill's protocol I read about here. What do you think? Thank you ahead of time for your time and consideration.

Hi Meg... I would first just take the Full Iodine Protocol with companion nutrients given here for your Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (HT) problems. As well, I would also take 500 mgs tyrosine per day -- this amino acid is necessary to help store the iodide as iodine in the thyroid. There also appears to be some contention whether oral iodine actually helps HT, but from my own readings and study of the most recent and other research, it seems that you must also take Selenium together with oral iodine for the effects to be beneficial for Hashimoto's.

To simply illustrate the reason why this is so necessary, here is the pathway which forms T3 and T4 hormones in the thyroid cells:

Thyroid peroxidase (enzyme) Thyroglobulin ----> Forms T3 and T4 thyroid hormones

But Hydrogen Peroxide is normally also produced in the thyroid cell as a waste metabolite from the above process. Excess HP is normally cleared by another thyroid cell enzyme and anti-oxidant called Glutathione Peroxidase. But if you don't have enough GP then excessive HP builds up in the cell and damages or destroys the thyroid cell by excessive free radical action. This is why nodules and inflamation occurs. Next, the antibodies come along and clear away the damaged thyroid cell -- this is part of their job.

So, formation and proper amounts of Glutathione Peroxidase in the thyroid cell is fairly critical to the health of these thyroid cells and critical for removal of the excess HP. The central metallic metal in GP is Selenium. Selenium is also critical for the conversion of T4 to T3 (more active form). So many of the problems in Hashimoto's seem to directly stem from a Selenium Deficiency as well as a possible iodine deficiency.

So, it would appear that supplementing selenium with oral iodine is fairly critical for anyone suffering from Hashimoto's. See the research here for yourself:

Therefore taking the Full Oral Iodine Protocol with companion nutrients -- which already includes selenium -- will also address and prevent further issues that cause iodine malabsorption in the body.

In case you are worried about the candida -- the oral iodine doses that you take will be more than enough to adequately kill off the candida over time and all you will have to really worry about are the halogen and heavy metal Detox and Herx die-off effects caused by the iodine -- these can be quite severe in people who have eaten western diets all their lives. So work your way up to the full dose slowly.

As well -- you should use the Anti-Candida Diet which would also be quite beneficial for your problems.
