Is BHT Safe for Hep C and Cirrhosis?Posted By Emily (New Jersey) on 06/10/2015
My dear friend found out he has Hep. C and Cirrhosis. Now committed to not drinking, he is on Milk Thistle to help repair liver. I'm not aware yet of his numbers. Will BHT be safe to take and be beneficial for cirrhosis?
Thanks in advance..

In my opinion the BHT treatment is worth a try. But so are the NEW drugs now available.
As recently posted in this forum: Having cirrhosis of the liver should qualify your friend for government help in paying for these expensive NEW treatments for hepatitis C.
In my opinion these VERY NEW treatments are both safe and effective for MOST people from what I have read about them.
And importantly: Being on an FDA approved drug includes all the blood tests required to track your friend`s progress.
All that aside: If your friend wishes to give the BHT treatment a try: STOP taking milk thistle and its extracts while using BHT.
The BHT treatment is BHT and nothing else. A standard multivitamin and mineral supplement along with vitamin C supplements might help.
If the BHT treatment is working you should see rapid improvement in 2 months or less. This includes: improvement in liver function tests and a rapid decline in the viral load count.
Also: He should NOT drink grapefruit juice. That juice interacts with a VERY many drugs or compounds including BHT in unpredictable and often dangerous ways.
For MOST people: The recommended dosage is: 250mg of BHT taken twice a day = 500mg of BHT per day taken on an empty stomach with water. People who weigh more than 200 pounds may need a little more BHT. People who weigh 125 pounds or less should take no more than 250mg of BHT per day. This is what works best for MOST people. If any problems occur ALWAYS take LESS BHT....Oscar
