Seeking Help for Bacterial Vaginosis in Older Women

Posted By Marie (Pa) on 06/18/2015

I am 71-years old and experiencing BV for the first time. My treatment started with oral flagyl and I fainted, so I switched to metrogel. After five nights of metrogel my vaginal and external genitalia tissues are completely raw and painful.

Are there any older women out there who can advise about what to do to restore those delicate tissues?

Dear Marie,

If you would be able to find a topcial comfrey salve at a local health food store, it may be helpful. Comfrey helps cells to regenerate more quickly, and a salve would be soothing.

Another option would be to use a mixture of 1 Tablespoon of Extra Virgin Coconut oil with 1 drop of tea tree essential oil and 1 drop of lavender essential oil, topically a few times a day. That should be soothing and healing. I am wondering if you are dealing with yeast now from the anti-biotics? The coconut oil/essential oil mix should help with that.

I hope that you feel better soon.

Plain organic yoghurt on a tampon to stop the yeast. It will stop the irritation instantly.

I tried the yoghurt on a tampon when I was young and had the most terrible reaction to it! Everything swelled up and became painful! Chronic Candida sufferer until recently (63 years old now) and now chronic BV. When will it end????
