Anti-Thyroid Antibodies and Iodine QuestionsPosted By Hisjewel (America, New York) on 04/10/2017
As per my post on Iodine, I would really like some one to simplify this for me.
Perhaps the site that I originally looked at just did not want us to help ourselves get well. Because from checking another site my understanding is that anti thyroid anti-bodies are what causes low thyroid function. And it was mentioned that, that is the reason why some women have trouble conceiving. Then one would think that iodine would be the answer to the problem. But they mentioned that they suggest a low dose thyroid medication. Hum.

When low thyroid function is caused by antibodies, it is classified as Hashimoto's disease, as far as I understand.
I believe other things can cause low thyroid function, including other hormone imbalance and simply nutrient deficiencies.
Some say that if you have Hashimoto's you should not supplement with iodine. Other say you should.
I have used iodine to successfully deal with my low thyroid function for years. It is no longer low functioning, last I was tested.
While my labwork was not extensive enough to classify me as Hashimoto's or not, I suspect that I may have been. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease. I was dealing with a different autoimmune disease (ITP) which has since been resolved, though I was told it was incurable.
Yes, I think low thyroid can affect your ability to conceive and even maintain pregnancy. Low thyroid can cause health problems in the baby, too.
