Advice needed on migraines and chronic sinusitis

Posted By Mindy (Tulare, Ca. / Usa) on 09/15/2011

Hello,

My name is Mindy. I am 45 years old and have a handful of health issues. I am Hypothyriod. I have clinical migraines daily. I am anemic. And... Now, I am perimenopausal. Joy joy!

I have been suffering from migraines for over 10 years now and they have gotten more intense and much more frequent over the past 2 years or so. Doctors have tried all sorts of meds on me. Relpax is what I currently use, though I truly do despise medication. Unfortunately, it is the only thing that I've found that somewhat works. Long story short, I finally had an MRI of my head done about a week and a half ago and the results showed normal brain, however chronic sinusitis. I'm afraid that is likely a broad term. Here's the thing though... I, for many many years had chronic sinus infections. I always had a minimum of 3 per year. They were horrendous. Then, they just stopped. Never had one since. Has been several years now. So, hearing this new diagnosis makes sense if I take my past into account, but I was somewhat surprised. My Neurologist is referring me to a specialist. Am waiting for ins to approve. Anyhow, this may be the answer that I (and many members of my family) have been waiting for all of these years. Time will tell. I am concerned that likely they will want to do surgery on me. I would love nothing more than to avoid surgery and medication.

I know that you guys cannot "prescribe" persay, but can you give me ideas of what to try? I have lived in Tulare County, Ca. All of my life and we have very poor air quality. Some of the worst in all of the U.S. so that most certainly contributes daily.

I am quite anxious for guidance outside Western medicine which I truly am not a fan of.

Please give some ideas if you would. I would really love love feedback. I know that whatever you suggest may or may not work for me, but I am willing to try.

Thanks for putting up with my rambling! This is so important to me as these migraines have turned my life completely upside down. I am debilitated a good portion of my life which causes me to have almost No life.

Please write me back as soon as you are able to.

Thanks so much!

Mindy

Hi Mindy, my migranes were due to hormones but I had them for more or less a week every months, so that was easier to determine. Still, I had them for maybe 10 years before I came to this conclusion, not the doctors. My solution back then was to take a pill that keeps the hormone levels always equal, Cerazette. Those one stops for 7 days seemed to cause my headaches. Your problem is different and of course, if you don't need the pill you shouldn't take it. I didn't need it back then either (I was slightly younger than you are now) but it helped me so much that I just had no choice. I hardly ever had a headache again and I am now 54. Maybe it would be an idea to think about hormones even if your migranes are not a product of the fluctuation due to the pill!

Hi Mindy, there is a Japanese Dr. who says that all diseases (including cancer) are caused by mineral deficiencies. For starters if I were you I would get some colloidal minerals.

Also for your anemia, Unsulphured Blackstrap Molasses has helped many people for that. If you look under the ailments section for each of your problems you should find a lot of help as well.

Migraines may be caused by a magnesium deficiency or even digestive problems. Probiotics, digestive enzymes, spirulina, chlorella are good for digestion.

Hi Mindy, I completely understand what your going through with the migraines and sinusitis. I was diagnosed with Graves disease (hyperthyroid) a few years ago. I went to endo's and naturopaths trying to find andswer's to why I had the migraines and the disease. I too have suffered through many years of 3 to 4 sinus infections per year. A few years back I stopped having the actual "infections" and it was just a constant sinus pain and stuffiness that usually started my 3 per week migraines. I finally found a naturopath to help me. He discovered that I was gluten intolerant. Once I stopped eating gluten I stopped getting the migraines. If I eat one single crouton I will have a migraine within minutes. I was told that people who have autoimmune diseases (especially graves and hashimoto's thyroid diseases) tend to have gluten and other food sensativities. This makes total sense as the food excites your immune system to send out histamines. Your sinuses fill up, joints get achy, blood pressure goes up, and on and on. It has truly been amazing how removing that one substance from my diet has helped me. I still get the occasional headache but they are so different compared to my dibilatating migraines where life would stop for me. My sinuses still get stuffy in the Spring and right now in the Fall but this is due to my newly acquired allergies.

When I do get a migraine after the occasional Whoops!! I don't automatically reach for the pain pills or migraine meds anymore. I put a little cayenne pepper on the tip of my tongue for about 30 sec. Then I drink a glass of water with a tablespoon of apple cidar vinager as quickly as I can. But you have to do this as soon as you start to feel the beginning of a migraine coming. When I feel the nasuea and throbbing on the right side of my head I do this. Otherwise it is to far gone.

For headaches and sinus try 20 drops of Tabasco in about 4 oz of water, swallow and do this twice a week for a few weeks, then use as needed. Would like to know if this works on your pre-meno. Tabasco only has three ingredients: vinegar, cayenne and salt. Everything in moderation :)

Hi Mindy - For your migraines, try juicing (or blending, which is what we do) celery - search the Internet using keywords migraine celery and a lot of testimonies from various sources come up. My husband suffered from regular migraines and they have eased up greatly. He takes a blended greens drink (with lots of celery), magnesium (Natural Calm - 2 teaspoons at night) plus fish oil (2 teaspoons with dinner) and a B-Complex daily (50 mg). He also drinks about 2 litres of filtered water throughout the day (each litre has 1/4 teaspoon sea salt in it). All these things have helped him immensely. I hope they help you too. Best of luck! What helps my migraines and chronic sinus issues is:

1) 2 tablespoon organic ACV in 8oz lukewarm water. 2-3 time daily between meals.

2) 10-12 oz juice (without pulp) celery, cucumbers, parsley, ginger.

3) Extra magnesium citrate days I do experience the symptoms.

4) Staying clear of all dairy products.

I hope this helps you as well.
