90 year old mother with thrush

Posted By Joan (Boston, Mass) on 10/11/2009

My elderly mother with Alzhiemers has Thrush and nothing seems to cure it. She has had it often and
Ususally Nyastatin does it, but this time it seems more virulent. She is unable to eat anything but liquids, is very weak and delirious at times. I am trying the milk of mag. And giving her fortified drinks, but she seems unable to drink anything without sugar, and I know this is not good. The Standard doctors are stumped because her blood work is OK. What else would you suggest? I have read all of these wonderful remedies but would like to know the best remedies might be best for an older person. She is 90. Thank you for any suggestions.

Hi Joan, Sorry to hear about your mom. She definitely has a serious problem with candida. Candida is usually caused by too much sugar and carbs in the diet- example: breads, cake, white flour items. The difficulty is her age and how elderly people can be stubborn with change. Google candida or candida overgrowth so you can see the symptoms and I'll bet your mom has shown a lot of these. Weak and delirious are also signs of candida as are thrush. Sugar will exacerbate the problem so stay away from that- it will actually cause it to flair! Work on eliminating sugar and white flour items and anything containing them. Add probiotics, veggies, yogurt but not sugared yogurts. Check out the candida page on this site and do research because only you will know how to take care of your mom since you are her caretaker and will know what she can handle. Mainstream doctors don't give much thought to this (candida) but alternative doctors do so it is no surprise they are overlooking this. I wish you the best. Lisa

Hi again Joan, I just wanted to bring your attention to a post by Jan on the candida page under dietary changes. It's an extensive post but very informative and personal in that she had her own battle with candida. Her post may save you from a lot of footwork and missteps in your work with this. Hope it helps.
