48 year old has erosive gastritis

Posted By Donna (Spalding, Lincolnshire, Uk) on 05/04/2012

Hi, I'm 48 years old and have been suffering with erosive gastritis for over 6 months. I initially tried all sorts of natural remedies, including liquorice, manuka honey, aloe vera juice, l-glutamine, probiotics, cabbage juice, vitamins, to name but a few.

Unfortunately, nothing seemed to help, so I reluctantly started to take Omeprazole (ppi drug) prescribed by the doctor. It helped a bit but I couldn't tolerate the side effects. I am now taking Ratinidine 150mg twice daily but I'm not really experiencing much of an improvement. I know that ACV and cayenne pepper can help cure ulcers and I have tried these as well but I still get a terrible burning pain that also feels like I've swallowed razor blades.

I want to come off the Ratinidine but I just don't know what else to try to help heal my stomach lining. I'm vegan and eat healthily, so think my problem must be stress related - I can't afford to see a professional, so would be grateful for any advice, thanks.

Surprisingly MSM powder with plenty of vitamin C turned out to be a complete cured to my gastritis.

I used 1 tablespoon in pure orange juice along with raw red cabbage daily before going to bed for about 1 week and now I no longer need to take HCL Betaine supplement.

Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach which could severely limit the production of stomach acid. This in the long run would lead to all sorts of complications including acid reflux and pathogen invasion including candida that would normally be controlled by sufficient amount of stomach acid.

Make sure the MSM powder is in its pure form which can always be confirmed from a basic home test.

Donna, I have suffered w/ gastritis for yrs. Initially I used DGL, but it wasn't sufficient at my level. Eventually I have found DGL Allantoin to be the best treatment. As a matter of fact, I just took 2 DGL 1 spoon of Allantoin. This combo taken 1 week keeps my upper GI in good condition. Maybe not in all cases but at least in mine, the need to buffer is essential. I use a 1-1 mix of sea salt and sodium bicarbonate orally as needed.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Dear Donna, I have just found that drinking lime juice cordial, weak, with water, before and after meals let me go the whole day without pain and therefore I didn't take any antacids or ppis either. I will keep this up and see if it continues to help. Good luck, Michelle

Timh, I've been searching for Allantoin on line but can't seem to find anywhere that sells it. Is it a powder? I'm in the UK and can only fine Allantoin as an ingredient for topical use - any suggestions as to where I might find it - thanks!

Donna, yes Allantoin is marketed as a skin proliferant in cosmetics but it works internally as well. It's the active ingredient of the herb Comfrey but without the toxicity issues associated w/ Comfrey. Essentially Allantoin stimulates the growth of epithelial cells or tissue such as found on skin, intestines, and lungs.

I purchased my A from "Personal Formulator" an online cosmetic ingredient supplier.

Be sure to have your digestive system alkalized and pathogen free so as to experience the real healing power of DGL/Allantoin.

Timh was your gastritis erosive? I bought the Allantoin from the company you mentioned. I'm afraid to take it, cause everything hurts my stomach. How do you take? In water or just swallow the powder?

Hi Donna, I too am vegan with horrible gastritis caused by stress. Are you able to tell me what has helped you, and if you are any better? Thank you - Rachel

Hi Rachel26, I'm still suffering from gastritis, it's not quite as bad as it was but I just can't seem to get rid of it. I've now tried nearly everything that other people have suggested on this site plus more. I'm now considering fasting because the only time I get relief from the pain is at night and first thing in the morning before eating. So, I'm wondering if fasting for a few days will help. I'm a bit concerned because I've already lost a lot of weight and don't want to lose any more, also I always feel weak without food. But I'm getting pretty desperate because I've had this for a long time and nothing seems to be working. I've also spent a fortune on supplements. I've never had stomach problems before and have always been healthy - I've been vegan for 20 years, so I know it's nothing to do with my diet. I'm dealing with the stress and don't feel as bad as I did but still have GASTRITIS! Have you tried anything yet? Let me know if anything helps.

Hi Donna, I too am still working on healing this. I have been diagnosed Post Infection Irritable Bowel from the hospital and have spent a lot of money on supplements. I currently see an osteopath weekly / fortnightly and this has been helping greatly. I am also on the Low Fodmaps meal plan which has reduced symptoms. I too am working on my stress - I feel like I've tried basically everything at this stage! I'm on a probiotic and that has helped a lot as well but I do still get moments when I'm in incredible discomfort like today. I'm guessing stress from this time of the year has triggered it, so I'm off later today for an osteopath appointment. Being on the Low Fodmaps plan and vegan, has been very challenging and I am working on finding a balance that works. Have you tried anything with some success? -Rachel

Dear Donna, Don't take me wrong and no offence, Vegan Diet is not a good diet. Setting aside that. Stop all ppi and ranitidine at once.

What happens is when your stomach is very weak or inflammed even a small amount of HCL secretion will cause severe pain and discomfort, despite this the small amount of HCL is not enough for digestion as well.

Now to keep your stomach lining from this acid and juices interference prepare any of TED's alkalizing formula 2 - 3 litres and sip it through out day. This acts as a barrier for your stomach lining and assists in digestion. Eventually the stomach rejuvenating itself or through any other supplements. If you start this, you should see the difference in a day.

There are thousands herbs and supplements that can cure diseases but you have to try. If possible, try milk kefir that can do very well for stomach issues supplying trillions of good bacteria.

FYI, diseases and ailments are not caused by stress. Stress is merely an excuse by the modern medical industry. Diseases are caused by pathogens and toxins.

Link to Earth Clinic's alkalizing formulas.

I've had pneumonia caused by gas which goes all over the body, one time actually felt it from eating garlic from China too. I keep probiotics MUST for the summer, and this works and I read it a while back, 5 frozen strawberries a day.

My dog right now has issues with poo, and blood in urine, and whatever type of possible virus caused it, is swirling my abs around, making swirly movements, but they say the Silica Complex times 3,3x's daily helps gland issues, and the Symphllis Officiallus helps gastric ulcers (issues) and knits bones, plus so many other things....so try that one in particular. The Rhus Tox homeopathic remedy has helped my dog's poo look normal with the S. Off. remedy, doesn't look enlarged, from gas.....which caused all her issues. All vets and doctor's do is test (not correctly either) and anti-biotics which can kill and have given some organ failure, stay away from Biaxin if your B+ or 0- Bloodtype.
