The nodule was discovered by my ObGyn who, at the same time, sent me for an ultrasound of fibrocystic breasts. I've learned here on Earth Clinic that an iodine deficiency could be responsible for both, and I've begun taking 150 mcg of kelp. I also have Lugol's 2% but have not started taking it yet.
What type of health professional would I consult with to talk about treating the nodule without surgery? I don't want to necessarily come up with my own course of treatment - I'd rather work with a professional who has experience with thyroids and nodules.
Thanks very much for any recommendations.

I also just got notification after an ultrasound of the thyroid that it has nodules on it. And I should get the doctor to follow up on them. I'm Seeing a pulinary specialist about a nagging cough over a 8 month to 1 yr period. Can't eat or talk without coughing alot afterward to the point of breaking a rib. I am going for Cystic Fribrosis study, chest CT, heart ultrasound in coming week(s). Taking time off work cause I'm just plain exhausted. No sleep. Coughing and waking all night. Interesting question I'm interested too to find out what to do about this.Replied by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 11/26/2012
Hi Ecfan... To help you understand your problem better, here is some research evidence that you can read and look through for more honest information on your thyroid and fibrocystic problems in relation to iodine supplementation.
Iodine Research
Iodine and the Breast
Iodine and Thyroid Nodules
The Iodine Protocol with Companion Nutrients
if you want to use the Iodine Protocol, it might be best to locate a doctor who is aware of and uses this protocol. Failing that, a naturopath in you area -- with a good reputation -- might also be another way to go.
