30 wks pregnant with perioral dermatitis

Hi Everyone! I am about 30 weeks pregnant and in misery with perioral dermatitis. It seems my options are limited with what I can do internally. I have already spent around $300 on co-pays and topical solutions that haven't worked. I will be getting a second opinion next week from a different dermatologist, but I'm rather pessimistic about my options. When I was diagnosed, my dermatologist prescribed steriod cream. Thank GOODNESS I researched it before I put it on my face. I didn't even bother getting it filled. And I wonder why on Earth a doctor would do that?!

I have tried topical clindamycin and they also prescribed finacea which I'm scared to try for fear of making it worse. On the natural side, I've tried apple cider vinegar topically and it did nothing. I also take probiotics and do daily yogurt masks. The yogurt masks feel great, but haven't helped. I'm washing my face with California Baby wash for extremely sensitive skin. I have used the calendula cream as well and it did nothing for me. I wear Glow minerals powder only when I have to be seen by people. It doesn't seem to make it worse. No flouride or SLS anymore either.

At this point I'm not sure what else to do. I've considered trying the grapefruit seed extract. But I don't think I should take it internally because of the pregnancy. Maybe just try topically? Or maybe just suffer and be completely embarrassed and miserable? There's so much info on various remedies that it's overwhelming and I don't know which way to go.

I would appreciate any suggestions of what to do!! I'm driving my husband nuts so he would appreciate it as well!

Thank you! Xoxoxo

I got POD with my pregnancy too. I think it is yeast related, which can skyrocket during pregnancy because of the hormones. Have you tried taking probiotics? That is safe to take during pregnancy. Otherwise, eating a lot of yoghurt might help with that too. Good luck! If nothing else, you will have more options after your beautiful baby is born!

Hi Ginger, I am 36 weeks pregnant and got POD two months ago on my belly and breasts. Then meanwhile I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I am eating now very healthy diet mostly vegetables, fruit(with less GI) , meat, eggs and nuts and controlling my blood sugar levels successfully with diet and exercise only. Eliminating wheat, sugar, rice, potatoes and processed food from my diet cured my POD too. As I am eating very small meals, so to avoid constipation I am drinking daily one large cup warm milk with two tbs organic cacao powder, one tbs VCO and one ts honey. I think VCO is helping me too to cure my POD. Ingesting VCO during pregnancy is safe and good for baby too. Moreover, I am using dead sea salt in my bath tub and applying organic raw cacao butter on my belly to avoid stretch marks. Dead sea salt is very good for skin problems. These all remedies are safe during pregnacy and I am feeling much better and my baby is doing fine with the grace of God. I hope this helps you. Good luck and best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy.
