The following study using melatonin hydrogel on the feet of people with diabetic foot ulcers found that the gel was useful in decreasing the number of ulcers as well as the severity of the ulcers. Here is a link to the full study :

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12590877/

Here are two relevant quotes from the study :

' The reduction in ulcer size in the melatonin group was approximately twofold greater in compare with the placebo (mean reduction: -2.7 ± 0.4 cm² vs. -1.34 ± 0.39 cm²; p-value: 0.08). '

' Topical 1% hydrogel demonstrated efficacy and safety in reducing the number, grade, and size of DFUs when used as a complementary therapy alongside standard ulcer care. This approach may help prevent complications associated with non-healing ulcers thereby improving patients’ quality of life and functional independence.'

Using melatonin lotion over melatonin gel may offer longer usable time on the skin. I explain how to make the lotion at the link below, but in order to get closer to 1% mix used in the study, it may be better to use a " slightly heaping 1/4 teaspoon" of melatonin powder rather than " a level full 14 teaspoon". Here is a link to how I make melatonin lotion :
