Does MG need to be refrigerated and how long does it keep please.

Hi Vince,
The aloe vera gel usually has enough preservative in to maintain the mixture without refrigerating. What is unknown is how long the melatonin itself will maintain potency and that is part of the reason I only suggested making 3 ounces at a time, so it would get used up before going bad. Melatonin does breakdown once it is in a solution, that much is known.
To date, I have not had a batch go bad or noticeably lose potency, but I have only tested up to the 3 month to 4 month range. If I were to apply it and not notice any benefit in terms of pain relief for something that it would normally help, I would probably discard the mix and make a new one, especially if the mix was more than 4 months old.
