Warm Salt Water for Cough

I was having a bad cough and tried various remedies but to no avail. My aunt suggested to gargle with salt water and after doing so for three times spread throughout the day, I finally can sleep through the night and my cough was about 70% improved. I use around one teaspoon of salt to a cup of warm water and stir till it almost dissolved. Then I gargled with the salt solution till it's finished. You can also use room temperature water though I feel warm water seems more soothing and effective. Hope it helps.
