Hydrogen Peroxide Inhalation Side Effects

I have been trying to use the Hydrogen peroxide inhalation method but when the mist hits my throat, it burns and I begin coughing. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I doing something wrong, or am I just sensitive. Maybe I should dilute the peroxide.

Hi Betsy,

Yes, I have experienced the same throat burn and tissue damage from using 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide(HP). While HP is a potent antimicrobial, it is also a potent oxidant that can damage cells and tissues and some people seem to be more sensitive to it than others. If you are going to continue to try to use HP, you are going to have to dilute it or you will cause damage to the oral tissues or basically anywhere it goes. Diluting to 1% or 1.5% may help reduce the damaging effects of HP. I dilute it to 1.5% and have found it to be the most effective for sore throats with no apparent damage. It works faster on a sore throat than anything else I have tried.

HP should be diluted. I take 5ml saline solution for the inhalation, which is available on Amazon in sterile sealed vials, then add 5 drops of HP. I use nebuliser for 6-8 min. inhaling through my nose.
You can also use Elsholtzia essential oil for inhalations. Only 2 distributors who I’d trust, never Amazon. Floracopeia and Young Living Oils. For a nebuliser : use cold boiled purified water (or a saline solution for inhalations) and add a trace of this oil, not even a drop. You can also add a trace of this oil into a hot steaming water and cover your head with a towel.

Try Manuka Honey lozenges. I buy all Manuka honey products from NZ directly even if it’s available in the US. The shipping is fast and affordable. But try reputable distributors in the US.

p.s. to get a trace of an essential oil simply turn the bottle upside down, then back in the upright position. Open by removing the cap. On the surface of the bottle opening you will see traces of the oil, rub it with some non reactive or absorbing stick (handle of a teaspoon or some glass stick?) then stir the solution or water with it- this will transfer it into the water. Remember, one drop is too much and you don’t want to waste even one drop of an authentic medicinal quality essential oil. I have a special stirring stick for that

Hi Betsy, I had the same exact problem when I sprayed HP in the back of my throat and then decided to use it in a nebulizer machine and it was the same. I saw a post here saying that coughing and burning is caused by having an allergic reaction to Hydrogen Peroxide and one should be careful not to cause lungs damage SO I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED. I am still coughing from the ending of 2023 but it's far less now. God bless you all EC.
