Coconut Oil Worked Best for Fleas

Posted By Joy (Lake Martin, AL) on 07/20/2025

"We recently had a flea infestation in our house (foxes living close by). We tried everything. ACV/water 50/50 works great if you catch fleas early. Diatomaceous Earth sprinkled and combed through their coats seemed to help a lot (use lightly and make sure your dogs are not breathing the powder particles). We used shampoos, sprays, bombed the house… vaccuumed daily and dumped and bagged the contents outside…. Washed their bedding in hot water…treated our yard multiple times, but we live in the country where our dogs can run freely. We finally got rid of the fleas on the dogs using coconut oil (extra virgin /unrefined/organic). I rubbed a small amount into their coats and combed them. Fleas hate coconut oil- do it outside because they will jump off the dog. The Lauric acid in it repels them and will kill them. I tried this last because I thought it would be messy and our old dogs can’t stay outside for long in the heat. But I was able to put old t-shirts on them when they came in the house so they wouldn’t grease up everything they touched. :) I combed them daily and re-applied as needed. What a great non-toxic solution!! Our dogs are old and unable to take the normal preventative meds - pills or topical.. Organic coconut oil is now my go to treatment for the first sign of itching. It is good for itchy skin from allergies too!! For other pet treatments lookup Dr Jones - veterinary secrets on You Tube. Most importantly pray continuously!! All glory to God for helping me find a safe solution!!"
