"Mineral Oil kills all mites in cats ears, so you shouldn't have to use the mite meds from Wallmart. Just add a small dropper full of oil in ears everyday until mites are gone."Posted By Sylk (Cincinnati, Ohio) on 02/29/2012
"Just wanted to comment: Be careful when treating your cat's ears. One of mine developed an aural hematoma, requiring draining and stitching. This may have been caused by rough handling of the ear, or too much scratching and shaking on his part. Gentle treatment only, please."Posted By Robin (Clovis, California) on 01/27/2016
"The hematomas happen from shaking their heads, I've had two dogs who had to have surgery for this problem."Posted By Pepperpot (Louisiana ) on 06/06/2025
"What are the signs/symptoms of aural hematoma from this? I’m treating my cats mites and she does shake a bit sometimes. She did it for a good while before I realized she had something deeper that I couldn’t see. I put castor oil and black started coming out. Now I clean the debris, but it just keeps coming out. She still shakes, but not nearly like before. I’m still working on getting the last bit out . First it was larger black pieces and now it’s tiny bits of black. Though her ears looked clear before they were not. It was all deep in the canal."
