Need Help for Dog With Blood Nose

Posted By Pam (Perth, Western Australia) on 03/10/2026

"I am looking for some advice for my Staffy with a persistent blood nose just on the left side. She has been to the vet and had a scope up the nose with nothing found. They did note alot of clear discharge smeared with blood. No definite answer but she is currently taking an antibiotic- doxycycline and also pred 20mg. Neither seem to be helping. Her blood work came back pretty good. Slightly anemic and also slightly high blood sugar levels. We usually treat her holistically and after doing some research I have found her liver may need some support. Not sure if this will help with the blood noses. Looking for advice. Thankyou"

"Please take your dog off the antibiotic. It was dangerous of your vet to prescribe it when he doesn't even know how to help your dog. Isn't that how we get resistant superbugs?

Our newest rescue came in with a minor slit with a bit of red on the tip of one ear. I tried everything and while they all helped, I could never stop it completely. I was stymied. Then one night his follow packmate licked his ear for a couple of minutes. The next morning that ear was mostly healed. As for the blood nose, I would use some DMSO on it (because of all the healing I've seen it do), and because it's reported to correct the dna in an area (topically applied) back to what the dna is supposed to be doing. Read the threads here for usage, application tips, etc, because there's alot to read. When volunteering at another shelter, saw dmso enable a paralyzed dog to walk again. Seems like a blood nose condition should be small in comparison, amiright?

Happy health to your dog!
