Having read up on Tiger Balm, I bought a cheaper knock-off and tried using it on two instances of rib pain. In both cases, the x-ray showed no bone injury, just muscle was affected. The doctor said it IS painful but should heal in a month.

In both cases, this "Oriental Balsam" was gently rubbed on the painful area 2-3 times a day, and after a week, was gone or almost gone!

Leaning hard over a railing caused me pain by a rib. After a few days of pain (no, nothing was broken) someone suggested I try Tiger Balm. It also goes by Chinese Balm, Oriental Balm and more. I got the cheapy sort (Oriental Balm) and what do you know, after the second application the pain was noticeably reduced, thank G-d!

I gently rubbed in a little bit - less than a pea size - 2 or 3 times a day.
