I’ve been having hot flashes for about seven years and they’ve only been worse this past year. Horrible intensity and almost every few minutes. It was crippling ast times. I saw on here a few mentioned vitamin E. So I bought some and take about 1,000mg ( four capsules) every morning and for the past three weeks I have, I have literally not had any. Life changing. Please try it. It took a couple days to kick in but oh my gosh when it did, I was astounded by the difference. Give it a shot.

Chicken Liver for Hot Flashes

Christina (Park City, Ut) on 01/20/2023

After ten days of consuming one whole organic chicken liver raw every day, my hot flashes had decreased by 90%. It contains zinc, iron, copper, selenium, all the b vitamins, Vit A, Vit D, Vit E, etc so it’s smarter than buying and choking down the inferior (and potentially dangerous) supplement forms of these. Eating it cooked is effective as well, I assume. I was also drinking ACV and lemon water during this time, though these had not helped me with hot flashes on their own, so I attribute the healing to the single greatest food on the planet. As a bonus, my cracked and peeling skin has been improving drastically, no migraines, great energy, appetite low. I take with half n half (raw, pastured) and I’m also Carnivore diet 8 months so perhaps the combination of no processed food / no plant food is important to note. Good luck.

B Complex + B5 for Hot Flashes

My hot flashes have vanished by taking a B complex in the morning, then a B-5 (pantothenic acid) midday with a little food and dinner time. The B-5 strengthens the adrenal glands, helping them to make the hormones that you need. It took about a full month for them to completely disappear, but I noticed slow improvement all month long. The B-5 capsules were 500mg each.

Iodine for Hot Flashes

Mister (EUSSR) on 11/04/2022

I've always been the kid that goes to school or work in a T-shirt at all times except the dead of winter. Three years ago, the hot flashes became quite extreme in the morning. I'm a guy so it has nothing to do with menopause :p.

A few months later I started taking iodine (as potassium iodide, orally, roughly 4 mg daily, for a few months) and have been cured for 2.5 years now. I have better resistance to heat in general. When I didn't take iodine for many months, I got the hot flashes back, but they disappear when I take a drop of iodine again (lugol's this time).

There's a lot of fear mongering about iodine on the internet, so I was apprehensive about taking high doses, taking it for a long time, or recommending it to other people. But I haven't been able to identify any negative effects from this kind of low dosing. Only the first two weeks or so I experienced harmless side effects: occasional dips in energy; fluctuations in feeling cold, then hot again; dry mouth and thirst. I made sure to get enough selenium (found in brazil nuts, pork, ...)

Apple Cider Vinegar for Hot Flashes

Pros: significant improvement just after one dose

Cons: has side effects - nausea for about 1 hour after drinking it

Been experiencing hot flashes for a few months now. Its especially bad at night with intense warmth then chills about 5-10 times a night. I suffer from insomnia and with these hot flashes I got even less sleep than usual.

Yesterday I drank 2 tblspns Apple Cider Vinegar in half glass of water in the morning. For the rest of the day, I had only a few very weak hot flashes. More importantly the night time hot flashes were significantly reduced in number and severity to the point where I was finally able to get some decent sleep.

I plan to continue with it for a while. I will try taking it with food rather than on empty stomach to avoid side effects.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences.

I started taking a high quality extra virgin olive oil from Trader Joe's for heart health. I take a shot glass full of olive oil & follow with a 16 oz glass of water mixed with 1-2 tablespoons ACV. My hot flashes miraculously disappeared.

I was having multiple hot flashes and also not sleeping well. My blood work said I was deficeint in Vitamin D. Since I started supplementing four weeks ago I am now sleeping and the hot flashes have been cut in half. Is this a coincidence?

Borax for Hot Flashes

Katzie (Canada) on 05/11/2021

Hi Drifter (who posted in 2012 on the body odor page),

If you're like me and still getting hot flashes, try Borax! I bought a box of 20 Mule Team Borax, dip my finger in it 1x/day, and swirl it into my water bottle and shake. It is odorless and tasteless, and the only times I get more than a flash here or there is when I run out, like I am now. My hot flashes went from a 6 out of 10 down to maybe a 2. It's weird buying something from the laundry aisle to take internally, but be assured that borax or boron is merely mined from dried up salt-water beds. There's one in CA that has enough to supply the world for hundreds of years! So the stuff is cheap and amazingly wonderful on mitigating hot flashes! Best of luck, fellow hot flashers!

Glycine for Hot Flashes

Alina (Tel Aviv) on 04/27/2021

This might just be me, but taking glycine made a huge, immediate difference for me.

I've had hot flashes for about 8 years. At first, ACV helped. Then it didn't. For the last years the hot flashes were severe, accompanied by a feeling of malaise.

I tested the levels of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids and saw I was low on glycine (an amino acid). From the first day I started supplementing with glycine in powder form, all the horrible feeling of malaise disappeared.

For now, I still have hot flashes, but they are weak - no comparison.

I've played with the dose. I've taken from 2000 - 5000 mg. I don't really see a difference with more or less.

I hope that helps somebody.

Night Sweats -

This is the simplest remedy EVER. Hot flashes in the night might be caused by the material in your sheets and/or comforter. I started to get horrible night sweats last winter and thought, this is it... menopause is here and it really sucks. A couple of months went by and I finally figured out that the new sheets I had bought that were supposed to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer were actually roasting me! After an hour of sleep, I was literally drenched in sweat. Smartly, I put my old cotton sheets back on the bed and guess what, I slept well and had no sweating. I then spent the next few months searching for the perfect cotton sheets that would keep me cool. Bought an inexpensive set on Amazon that were marketed as "the sheets your grandmother used to have". NO. They were itchy and scratchy and definitely NOT what grandmother used to have! Horrible. Then I bought bamboo, expensive sheets from Bed Bath and Beyond after the sales person told me they were the coolest sheets around. Guess what, I really roasted in those too. So once again I went back to my old sheets. They are cool to touch and I have no idea the brand because they washed off a long time ago. Night sweats be gone.

Eliminate Sugar for Hot Flashes

I found if I eat sugar of any kind, I will wake up soaked. So a small chocolate bar or piece of watermelon after dinner will do it. I do not eat anything after dinner now. That stopped my night sweats.

Garlic for Hot Flashes

Gina (Toronto) on 09/23/2020

I have stumbled upon a home remedy for night sweats, which I have had for the past year or more. It is fresh garlic. I changed my diet at the beginning of September to lose Covid weight and started eating a lot more veggies and salads. The one thing I have A LOT of every day, is fresh chopped garlic, about two cloves each time, which I grill first before adding the other vegetables.

About a day or two into eating garlic, my night sweats TOTALLY ceased. My body temperature regulates perfectly now. I am stunned because I tried all sorts of remedies and supplements and nothing helped.

Please try this if you wake up at night pouring with sweat, only to freeze a few minutes later after tossing aside the blankets. I would love to know if it helps others too.

Warning!

I was having bad hot flushing (menopausal) that lasted for hours especially in the evening. One day I didn't take the whole foods vitamin c I had been taking and hot flushing was 90% better. So my suggestion is to one by one stop taking your supplements to see if they might be making things worse.

Dietary Changes for Hot Flashes

Dietary changes work for hot flashes. It is a simple matter of imbalance. I quit eating sugar. I lowered my salt intake and watched my fat intake. I got rid of hot flashes. I just plain don't have them anymore. Many years now. Balance your diet. Also watch for food intolerances or allergies.

Avoid Vitamin B Complex if You Have Hot Flashes

Avoid Vitamin B Complex if you have hot flashes

I started taking Vitamin B Complex -- one 500mg pill a day -- about 2 weeks ago and I noticed after a few days my hot flashes had gone from already bad to completely unmanageable with sweat pouring down my face and back. It took me another week to realize it must be the Vitamin B Complex tablet, as it is the only thing that has changed in my diet.

So, I stopped taking it and, within two days, my hot flashes were back to normal. Incredibly annoying, but minus the floods of sweat.

I would caution anyone to avoid Vitamin B Complex if you are trying vitamins for hot flash reduction, as they seem to cause them.

As for natural remedies, nothing works, and I've tried everything -- apple cider vinegar, black cohosh, parsley, various vitamins, cutting out all caffeine and sugar, exercising more, losing weight and on and on. It's now two years, and my hot flashes are worse than they were before I started. I now have an appointment with my doctor and will be going on Premarin. My mother has been taking Premarin for 35 years and has not had one problem with them. I intend to be the same, as these so-called 'natural remedies' are useless to me.

Ice Water for Menopause Hot Flashes

This is going to be really obvious, but when hot flashes start, drink a tall glass of ice water or other iced beverage. It's not really a cure, only a temporary fix but it does help a lot. Of course, an hour or two later you'll need more ice water but it's helpful until whatever other remedy you're using kicks in, and works pretty fast.

Cure Hot Flashes with Beets and Olive Oil

Clatterbuck (Beltsville, Md) on 05/24/2018
5 out of 5 stars

I seem to have cure my hot flashes and night sweats quite accidentally. I had to start taking antihistamines for something else and I noticed that I was not having hot flashes anymore. I stopped taking the antihistamines and the hot flashes started up again. I was curious so I googled hotflashes and antihistamines and sure enough Zyrtec has done a study showing that women reported fewer hot flashes when they took antihistamines. Well I didn't want to take antihistamines for a long period of time so I did some more googling and I found several website that say hot flashes are caused by too much histamine in your body. Apparently your body creates a chemical called DAO which manages histamine production but DAO production goes down when your estrogen starts to fluctuate.

The sites said that you can increase DAO production with consuming beets, olive oil, pea shoots, and increasing your vitamin C intake. I now eat a beet every day and cook with olive oil. I also moisturize my hands and feet with olive oil. I also have to avoid my histamine triggers which are alcohol, chocolate and picked or fermented foods. I feel cool and comfortable now. I hope this helps someone else.

Olive Leaf for Hot Flashes and Night Sweats

I had been suffering from hot flashes and night sweats for over a year when I had to start taking antihistamines for another problem. After I started taking the antihistamines I noticed my hot flashes and night sweats had stopped. Just for fun, I googled antihistamines and hot flashes and saw that a lot of women are taking antihistamines for their hot flashes. Zyterc actually did a study and it showed reduce hot flashes while taking their pills. Well, I liked not having hot flashes anymore but I didn't want to have to keep taking antihistamines so I did a little more online research and found a website that talked about histamine intolerance. I started to remove some of the foods I know cause my face to heat up and turn red, wine, chocolate, anything fermented. I also started cooking with olive oil as they suggested. I also started eating beets once a day. Beets are supposed to help your body produce something called DAO which supposedly gets rid of excess histamine. I also started taking olive leaf capsules. OMG, not only do these capsules take away my hot flashes, my seasonal allergies are non existent this spring. Amazing!

Apple Cider Vinegar for Hot Flashes

Hi, Texas Terri (2014)

Wow! Our stories are similar.... I was going into my 12th year of night sweats when I found all of you on Earthclinic. I was having 4+ night sweats per night. (This is nothing compared to what other ladies are going through but I was pretty miserable.) Each time I was so drenched in sweat that I had to get up, change my nightgown and put a fresh towel on the bed. I also tried HRT and lost hair. I was pretty sad and desperate for relief.

I've been taking the ACV for about six weeks, two tablespoons three times a day. I believe that equates to 2/500mg pills 3 times a day, spaced out morning, noon and night. I've only had two night sweats in the beginning while I was trying to find the dose that would work for me. I still suffer from terrible insomnia but at least I'm dry now! ACV has been a miracle and a blessing!! I really hope our reviews will help others. May God continue to bless you, thank you for sharing!
