Re: Apple Cider Vinegar for Age Spots

I'm 66 years old and had very dark age spots covering both cheeks from my eyes downward to my chin. I also had smaller spots on my nose and forehead. The spots were so bad that I was considering acid peels from a dermatologist, even though I am not in favor of them.

One month ago, I decided to try unfiltered, unpasteurized ACV with the mother to help with my mild Roseacia. I only have small capillaries around my nose and on my chin. However, I felt like I should apply the vinegar to my whole face but didn't know why.

I was very surprised to discover that I love the smell and the feeling of the apple cider vinegar on my face. I have been applying it morning and evening for 30 days. I do not rinse my face afterward. And I don't apply moisturizer after the vinegar.

My face looks noticeably clearer, brighter, and softer! The age spots are definitely fading all over my face. My husband and others close to me have seen the difference in my skin.

I did originally break out on my nose and chin, but those blemishes are gone now. The ACV did not make my skin feel dry or cause it to peel, either.

I am going to continue to apply ACV to my face and will be starting to apply it to my forearms and hands.

I read somewhere that unpasteurized and unfiltered ACV contains acetic, lactic, and hyaluronic acids. The last two are often found in anti-aging skin products.

I will stop back and give an update sometime in January of 2024.

Selenium for Age Spots

RB (Somewhere in Europe) on 07/18/2022

Yes, it is true that doctors these days get almost no training in nutrition. And it is true that the earth is deficient in many minerals, including Selenium. However - regardless what anyone says - age spots, liver spots, and or moles are not considered to be symptoms of Selenium deficiency.

Yes, it's also true that people with "Dr." in their names write all kinds of books; especially books on nutrition. Example: the book titled "Dead Doctors Don't Lie" by Dr. Wallace. However what those authors say in their books are nothing but opinions. It is you, the reader, who needs to separate the wheat from the chaff. One of the most challenging tasks of reading books involves sorting through a seemingly endless stream of opinions on pretty much everything.

Sorry, there are no 125 mg (milligram) Selenium tablets that I know of. It's far more likely that each of those tablets contain 125 mcg (microgram) Selenium.

Further, in the last 3 months I've been taking 300 mcg a day of Selenium. But, as to my age spots (a.k.a. sun spots, and moles), this protocol has done nothing for me. Therefore, if you're taking 300 mcg Selenium per day for 3 months for your age spots, liver spots, or moles, you're wasting your money. Ditto for a dose of 200 mcg per day for 3 months.

I hope this will help somebody!

Yes, Dr. Wallach speaks the truth. I took 100 micrograms daily for two months and watch my age spots disappear before my eyes. If I had taken 200 mcg, it may have been faster.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Lime Rind for Age Spots and Liver Spots

Apple Cider Vinegar for a persistent spot & Lime Skin for liver spots on the hands:

Apple Cider Vinegar------My dermatologist's diagnosis of a persistent spot on the bottom left side of my face was" age spot"! One application of Apple Cider Vinegar got rid of it COMPLETELY!

Lime Skin-------As a right handed person, I have rubbed lime skin (rind) every single morning on my left hand after squeezing it in my herbal tea, and there are zero liver/age/brown spots, whereas, I do have some tiny light brown spots on my right hand!

These days, I use lime skin on both hands equally!

I've had success with potato juice too for age spots. I don't juice the potato though. I just store the potato in my refrigerator and cut a thin slice at night and rub the juice on my face every night. It does work.

Selenium for Age Spots

Age spots, liver spots, and moles are usually signs of selenium deficiency. A capsule of selenium, usually 200 mcg, is safe to use daily, with food. The results come pretty quickly. I have seen big hairy moles vanish in a little over a month, dark splotches on the face vanish in days.

BTW, selenium helps prevent skin and breast cancer, and other cancers. And a recent study showed that 250 mcg per liter of blood stops any virus from propagating. Selenium stops covid!

Wasabi and iodine for dark spots: I washed, then placed a dab of cheap store bought wasabi paste on the dark spots, 30 minutes later wiped it off and put a drop of 5% Lugol's over the spots and left it to dry. It stings a little. A day or two later the spots peeled off, pink underneath. Some have returned and are getting retreated. I applied wasabi all over my cleaned face. It stung and made my eyes water so I washed it off pretty quick. A day or two later my freckled face exfoliated and looked much lighter colored. I also applied green tea, crushed tomato and fresh aloe vera gel at times through all this, but the wasabi and iodine had the most dramatic effect.

I’ve tried several things to get rid of age spots and I finally found something that worked really well. Make a paste out of baking soda and ACV, apply to your face or the areas you want to clear, leave for 15 minutes rinse with warm water and wash your face. Finish with a cold splash of water, pat dry. I then use a very light moisturizer because I am 55 😊 However, recently I did discover that if I just get a Q-tip and dip in the ACV only and apply on the age spots directly they go away much quicker. Either way I do this before I go to bed every night and I’ve had amazing results!

I have found that, rather than drying skin, apple cider vinegar (or indeed any vinegar) has a moisturising and softening effect. There is no need to mix it with oil. I use distilled malt vinegar (white vinegar) as a cheap hand cream. Now, my hands react very badly to soap or any detergent, which both cause awful itching and dryness that keep me awake at night. So I started using the vinegar as a way to re-acidify my skin (natural pH 5.5) after washing in soap (which is alkaline and has a pH or around 8 or higher). Through this practice, I discovered vinegar was more effective than hand cream for moisturising and way better than putting petrochemicals on your skin. But I also noticed that the age spots on my hands were disappearing. After 6 months of using every night and during the day whenever I wash my hands with soap (very frequently these days), I have virtually no visible age spots left - just pale marks. At this rate, within another 6 months they should have gone. This is not from using ACV, simply white vinegar.

Horseradish Sauce, Hydrogen Peroxide Faded Large Age Spot

Anon (Anon) on 04/29/2016

There are dark spots on my arms and face I thought were from the sun, but then I realized I only have them where I apply DEET to keep the mosquitos away when I garden. They look like "liver spots".

I got rid of a large one with a mixture of peroxide and horseradish sauce (horseradish, vinegar, salt, water). I'm thinking that was the combo, but I'm not sure, I have to get more horseradish and try it again. Just the kind of horseradish sauce you make at home. I put the peroxide on it and then while it was still damp rubbed the horseradish into it real good. I only did it once or twice. The brown spot turned a lovely shade of lavender and puffed up a little, and then faded away in just a few days. It was either apple cider vinegar or regular white vinegar. Sorry I can't remember. The store hasn't stocked horseradish root for a while and the jars of it all have mystery ingredients... So I wait...

I don't know about the horseradish, but the apple cider vinegar and onion works for age spots. Half onion juice and apple cider vinegar. I couldn't be bothered squeezing the onion so I just cut the onion up what I thought was half the ACV and used each night and morning. It was amassed over 8 weeks and it slowly disappeared.

ACV and Castor Oil for Age Spots

Veena (Denver, Colorado) on 10/14/2015

At first I thought using the Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) as toner will not work for me. I initially left it on my face overnight but I was not able to sleep well because I scratched my face. When I washed my face with water in the morning it was irritated so I leave off using it for a week then I tried again with the ACV toner but this time I rinsed it off after 20 minutes. Then I poured castor oil in my two fingers and applied it all over my face. I didn’t have bad reaction this time. After 3 days of doing the routine I woke without the oily face that I usually have.

Two weeks of using it had lightened the age spots and now, they’re totally gone! I am also using it now to lighten the dark areas of my body like the knees, the elbows, and the neck. It takes a lot of time and patience but the result is amazing!

Apple Cider Vinegar and Skin Problems

Michael (California) on 05/13/2015
5 out of 5 stars

After seeking several different methods to clear up several skin issues and failing, I was ready to go see another dermatologist

I came across this board and with so many positive reviews about ACV, I went and purchased a bottle of organic ACV with mother. I have several skin issues that really are bothersome especially sun damage on my face. I treated the following:

Actinic Keratoses on my face and arms. Brown solar spots on my face. And the most difficult, atopic dermatitis patches(eczema)on my legs. I applied un diluted ACV 2x per day with a q-tip directly to the spots and AK. In addition, I am drinking 1 tablespoon with fruit juice 1x per day. I have been doing this for 22 days and I am amazed that the AK lesions have almost disappeared!! There is some pinkish color and still a little bit to continue to treat. The brown age spots have diminished in darkness and are not noticeable unless you look for them. Once again, I am still treating them and expect continued progress. The eczema has been more difficult but has shrunk by at least 50% and seems to be drying out and flaking off a little bit at a time. I did seem to develop another blister at one site, but I believe this was a underlying one that emerged with treatment. THIS STUFF WORKS!

I am NOT getting the weight loss and lower blood pressure, others are, but am amazed to have an apparent solution to my skin problems.

ACV, Lemon Juice and Horseradish for Age Spots

Penelope (Concord. California) on 02/17/2015

I detailed boats for 14 years and with all of the chemicals I used I caused major havoc on my skin, and I became so depressed as I had aged so badly. Ugly brown spots and horrid wrinkles all over my face . I tried the expensive and the cheap face creams until I ran out of money. and like the commercial I definitely had a wrinkle cream grave drawer. I went through my grandmothers trunks and found her home remedies.

This is what I did:

Fresh lemon juice-ACV- and the horseradish. All equal parts . (it will be a tad milky with some foam, ), I put a very warm wet cloth on my face and neck for a couple of minutes to open up my pores and then apply my mixture and go to bed. This takes a couple of days and the results are wonderful. My skin has improved 75% and I am going to keep on using this, this is working for me and I am very happy with the results I am seeing. The smell is not too bad but your spouse or partner may not agree, but there is always the couch for them to sleep on...

Selenium! Could it be?! I was just taking selenium for an entirely different reason and I noticed that a 1/4 inch irregular large freckle (a liver spot) on my cheek had partially faded out. It crossed my mind this might be a side effect of my new supplements regimen, but I couldn't say what part of it. Hence, I am here reading about what makes age spots / liver spots / freckles fade away.

I went on a hypothyroid (sluggish thyroid with signs of Hashimotos autoimmune problems) support regimen to boost iodine levels, and I took extra selenium together with the iodine to increase absorbtion.

Maybe not the selenium, since I noticed the change in the liver spot right after doing a liver and gallbladder flush which involved drinking 2 liters fresh apple juice daily for six days and then swallowing epsom salts and, an hour later, olive oil and lemon juice.

Did you know that both the liver and the kidneys produce T3, just as the thyroid does?

Why *do* they call them liver spots, anyway?

Interesting stuff.

Re: Warning on Lemon Juice and Sun Exposure

Kay (Fl, US) on 05/31/2014

Warning

Caution: Lemon/citrus juice is known to react in the sun (and with hormones), which can cause acid burns (proven by many dermatological studies). Personally this happened to me and several girlfriends, while using lemon juice to lighten our hair while laying in the sun at the beach. At the time, the reaction (darkly stained skin on the sides of the face and around hairline) became much more prominent in the girls who were taking birth control pills. These stains ruined a few modeling careers (tragic scarring on the girl who layed her face on a lemon soaked towel). In winter, when our tans faded, many of us noticed we had "matching stains" where the lemon juice had driped down our face.

Considering the warnings I've read from derm/cosmetologists, it's best to reserve the lemon juice treatments for nightime use only.

Finally, I had been trying the onion juice with ACV remedy for age spots and after 3 months I did NOT notice ANY improvement. But, the good news is that HERE is what truly worked for me and in ONE week my sunspots are 95% GONE!

#1- I soaked an entire RED onion in ACV (Braggs), this is in a glass jar, and I dab a cotton ball in it and run it over my cheeks when I know I will have free time.

#2- At night before going to bed, I rub castor oil on the sunspots

#3- I am taking MSM 4,000mg and 2,000 Vitamin C.

These THREE combined have FINALLY shown ERADICATION of my sunspots. I wish you all tons of success and know that you are all beautiful inside and out. :)
