Clove Oil for Gnat Bites

When it comes to gnats and myself, they love me and go after me relentlessly. When I remember, I spray myself with clove oil in alcohol before going out where the gnats are and that helps a bit to deter them. If I forget and they bite me, Vicks seems to reduce the swelling and itchiness later in the evening when it seems to flare up and can keep me awake.

Cedar Oil Repels Buffalo Gnats

My son was working outside, riding on a tractor yesterday. He came in and said the buffalo gnats were driving him crazy. They covered him and the tractor and were biting him.

I put 30 drops of cedar essential oil into 2 ounces of rubbing alcohol that I had in a spray bottle. He sprayed himself and the tractor! He later reported that the gnats left him and the tractor alone the rest of the afternoon.

A bonus is that cedar smells great!

Rubbing alcohol, applied liberally helped stop biting midges or no-see-ums. They [no-see-ums] get in your nose and bite on the inside of your sinus passage.

For No-see-ums in the ears, be sure to dilute a concentrated solution of oil of cloves, since it will cause your skin to peel. Start out with a very small diluted amount and work up a little at a time until no-see-ums are gone.
