Has anyone used hydrogen peroxide for ear wax recently? Was it effective? I have read many of the older EC posts on the subject and wonder if anyone has any suggestions to add. Just doesn't seem to work for me, but I'm hopeful that it still might. Thanks for your input and suggestions.

Please don't ask where I heard this, but excess ear wax is supposed to be caused by insufficient Omega 3s in diet. Bought some capsules today, popped 1 and poured 1/2 into husband's ear then cotton piece for overnight. Will see in the morning what comes of it (out of it).

Dried Cranberries for Excessive Ear Wax

I decided to try cranberries for liver cleansing - hope that worked - but it most definitely worked on earwax, specifically too much.

Every 5-6 years I get so much earwax build-up in one ear that I think I've gone deaf. The cranberries (well, actually Craisins, which are dried cranberries) virtually eliminated my earwax altogether, and fixed my 'deafness' after 4-5 months of no hearing out the left ear!

Ear Cones

The use of ear candles encourages relaxation, which as part of a healthy lifestyle, may help living well with: Rhinitis, Sinusitis, Ear Infections, Allergy, Flu Symptoms, Sore Throat, Migraine, Conjunctivitis, Rough Days, and Stress.

Ear Candles - What is the Truth?

I hope by now that you have heard about those crazy, wacky things called Ear Candles … and, boy have they caused quite the commotion! In this blog, I am going to review and examine the debate surrounding ear candles, prove what the legal status of ear candles are in the USA, clarify exactly what ear candles do and do not do and I am going to share with you why and how to use ear candles. Of course, in the end it is up to you to decide for yourself about ear candles.

I am Doc Harmony and for the last 26 years, I have dedicated my professional, and a lot of my personal life, to Ear Candles. Why? In 1992, my son was very ill with ear infections for about 1 year. After being prescribed another batch of antibiotics, he began vomiting up the medicine. I had had enough. At this time, I went to Dr. Berryhill (our family Naturopath since I was 16) and he introduced me to ear candles. Of course, I thought this was a hoax but at this point in life, I had no other options. I wanted my son to be healthy! So I used 4 ear candles on my son and he has not had another ear infection to this day. Simultaneously, Dr. Berryhill called on me numerous times to encourage me to make and sell ear candles. I took his advice and thus began Harmony Cone Ear Candles.

Life was good, handcrafting and selling ear candles, raising my family, working and living together sustainably upon the land. I birthed 2 babies at home, became vigilant about natural health, and was homeschooling all three children. I went back to school and obtained my Masters in the Science of Natural Health. The company was successfully expanding and this allowed me to have the opportunity to help single mothers and other homeschooling families create their own microeconomic communities by handcrafting ear candles at home with our special technique and, of course, love.

In 2006, I began writing my Dissertation on Ear Candles, expecting this to be an easy paper to write (since I thought I knew everything about ear candles!). But I discovered that I had a lot more to learn about ear candles when when I came across Dr. Seely, a renowned doctor at Spokane Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic, who orchestrated the now famous survey of 122 otolaryngologists in the USA and their observations about ear candles. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8849790 Needless to say, I was dumbfounded because I was like everyone else when he discovered that there was “no removal of cerumen from the external auditory canal" … What! Ear candles do NOT pull wax out of the ear?

I was confused as I had witnessed many people use my ear candles for years with great success for a variety of reasons. So I became committed to discover what ear candles were actually doing by writing my dissertation on ear candles. Thus began a very lonely campaign with my team to educate the retailers and consumers about ear candles.

During the last 26 years, my team and I, have exhibited our ear candles at hundreds of natural health, massage, chiropractic, natural professional tradeshows with tens of thousands of visitors attending. We have worked tirelessly to educate and share the truth about ear candles with retailers and consumers across the world. We have exhibited as far north as Sweden and as far south as Argentina, Brazil and Australia.

I have probably candled more ears than anyone in the world, considering that at every tradeshow, I candled one ear every 15 minutes. (I wish I had documented all of them for the Guinness Book of World Records!) I know I have exhibited in at least 120 tradeshows. Each tradeshow is at least 22 hours long. 22 hours x 4 ears is 88 ears and ear candles. That equals at least 10,560 ears candled by me personally. I am confident that the number is higher considering family, friends, and store demonstrations. I believe that the number is closer to 15,000 plus. There were NEVER any injuries and 99% enjoyed the experience.

This is why, when the FDA sent 16 warning letters about ear candles to vendor, manufacturers and retailers and it included us, I was shocked! We were not claiming to pull wax out of the ear. We were confused and scared. However, everyone at Harmony Cone Ear Candles decided to lead the way with research, funds and a commitment to Personal Freedom and sue the FDA for Constitutional Violations. We asked other manufacturers that had also received warning letters from the FDA to participate but we were the ONLY manufacturer to stand up against the FDA and eventually, stop them from outlawing the sale of ear candles. (Note: We did have a bit of financial support from Regal Labs and Becks Natural.)

Consider, we had made every single ear candle by hand and used them for 26 years regularly with no issues amongst friends, family and associates. We also have a 3-step process to ensure that they are handcrafted properly.

We could not help but wonder, why is the FDA including us?

We are NOT just selling ear candles, we are in the trenches … educating …

Mostly everyone that uses ear candles for the right reasons know that they are relaxing. This is why I am writing this … I want to share our story about Harmony's Ear Candles and how facetiously the FDA has tried to have them removed.

NOTE TO EARTH CLINIC TEAM: I WOULD LIKE TO SEND YOU THE REST OF THE INFORMATION BUT IT IS ABOUT 30 SOMETHING PAGES AND I AM NOT SURE IT WOULD FIT HERE. I CAN ALSO MAKE THE INFO NEUTRAL ... BUT I AM HARMONY SO I AM NOT SURE HOW I COULD/WOULD CHANGE THAT BIT OF INFORMATION. PLEASE CHECK OUT MY WEBSITE: www.healthyenergyamazinglife.com ... ONLY BITS AND PIECES OF THIS COMPLETE STORY IS UP YET. IT SHOULD BE GOING UP NEXT WEEK.

EC: Hello Doc Harmony,

Earth Clinic readers would be interested in learning some of the testimonials from ear candles, but probably not 30 pages of it (which should stay copyrighted on your site anyway)! We've had quite a bit of feedback over the years that ear cones do NOT pull out ear wax! We'd love to read what you have learned over 26 years of use. Thank you!

Hydrogen Peroxide for Ear Wax

I have worked over the years with while trying to look up and stuff fell in my ears. I ended up in an ER once in so much pain. She removed some foreign object from my ear. The Doctor gave me a tip to take a shower sprayer and the hottest water I could take with my head tipped in a downward sideways position opposite the ear I was cleaning and spray it in there. I just had excess wax in my ear and gently with the other end of tweasers I could feel something hard in there.

I used Peroxide, then tried with a bobby pin, tweasers smooth end again, then more peroxide and then the bobby pin and got something very hard out of my ear I could feel in there. I took my time, was very gentle and very careful. Once it was moved about and the wax broken down it was the bobby pin that managed to coax it out.

I have NO doubt that I am better for it, and possibly safer than the shower method even that may have sent it into my inner ear. I might note that after I was done I put a dab of Coconut oil in as it is antimicrobial and will add some oil back to my ear as of course it felt sensitive a bit on my last dip in there to make sure the foreign object was out.

Ear wax / hydrogen peroxide

It worked! I put hydrogen peroxide in my son's ear for 20 min and kept adding more to keep the bubbly sound going. I could see the wax swelled up a bit so I used an ear wax scoop tool and pulled out a huge long piece of wax. At least half an inch long! I couldn't believe what came out! That wax was causing ear infections when he would get a head cold. It all came out in one big piece thanks to the hydrogen peroxide loosening everything up.

Hydrogen Peroxide for Clogged Ears

Thank you all for such an awesome remedy! The other day I decided to get in the pool with my kids to fight off this heat wave we are going through in Southern California. Towards the end of the pool session, my son asks if I can float. As I attempted to show him that I could not, my ears got completely submerged in water causing my ears to clog.

As I got out of the pool I thought, no biggie it’s just water. As hours went by my ears stayed clogged so I decided to use a qtip. The qtip made it worse. I decided to try this peroxide method out of desperation as I was going on two days of not being able to fully hear.

My wife dropped the HP in my right ear to the point where it fuzzed. That lasted 10 mins then I laid down the opposite side to let it drain for another 10 mins. I did the same to the other ear. I was bummed as I didn’t see any ear wax drain out of my ears nor did my hearing get any better. As desperation grew, I grabbed a clean bottle sprayer and filled it with lukewarm water and sprayed it directly into my ear. After 3-5 mins of spraying my ear, I felt a strong fuzzy feeling in my eardrum as if the HP and water were mixing in my ear. That feeling forced me to pull the spray bottle back. And as I did that small particles of ear waxed burst out onto the sink. Viola! My hearing came back 110% better.

Turpentine for Ear Issues

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

I applied pure "food grade" turpentine to the insides of both ears with cotton swabs and it was very painful, it felt like an ear infection. After a while the pain went away. And maybe a day or so later a white skin of sorts came out of each ear. It looked like dry skin, so it was probably the ear canal shedding the top layer because of the strength of the oil. It did not appreciably affect the itchiness. Alcohol is said to cure athlete's foot, so it may cure the ear problem.

Dave's Ear Cleaning Method for Ejecting Wax and Eliminating Itching

Dave (Fountain Inn, SC) on 01/17/2017

It is common to have wax accumulation and itchy ears.

One formula I've tried with success is as follows:

I take my finger (my pinky) and barely wet with water and dab that into baking soda. I insert into each ear. There are other ways to get a bit of baking soda (barely moistened) into ears (q-tips) but the digital way is my favorite. I let that dry completely in each ear for four or five hours. I clean the outside of the ear to get rid of the white residue but don't touch the soda deeper in the outer ear canal. I just let the baking soda work its absorbing action for four or five hours.

Then I get out my Oregano Oil and using the dropper drip one drop into each ear. Yes it stings. Some people might not be able to take the stinging so if too much I'd swish out with an ear syringe of warm water if oregano is too painful. But although it stings, I think it is killing any infection in the outer ear canal that contributes to itching.

Now in a day or two an amazing thing happens (at least in my case).... a film is emitted from each ear. I might have to reapply two or three times in a month, but my ears are free from itching and any crusty buildup.

Hydrogen Peroxide for Ear Wax

I have had problems with wax buildup since my teens, generally with a slow progression where I realize at some point that I'm having problems hearing out of one ear. I would typically use some heated oil to loosen up the wax and it'd be fine. So imagine my surprise when I suddenly can't hear anything and my ear goes from fine to feeling like a cotton factory has taken up shop. I tried going between warm oil and HP multiple times, and no results. Two hours of trying this and nada!

I followed the directions someone posted about putting in 2-3 drops of 3% peroxide at first, then waiting 5 minutes and putting in another 2-3, for about 20 minutes. Then tipped my head over the sink and let it drain before irrigating. Sweet relief!!! First time didn't take, second time didn't take, but third time was a charm. A really, REALLY disgusting charm, but it worked! I have never seen that much wax in my life and hope to never see it again. If it doesn't work the first time, just try, try, and try again. It'll work, eventually, and it will be incredibly relieving and horrifying when it does.

Hydrogen Peroxide for Ear Wax

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!! OH MY GOD! LIFE CHANGING!!!! THIS IS A REAL MIRACLE CURE!!!! Do it for 20 full minutes. Keep adding more drops with ear dropper and keep refilling it. You will notice a variety of bubbling/fizzing noises in your ear. THIS IS NORMAL and means that it is working. When the bubbling noise becomes less and less loud, add more droplets to your ear..fill it up...like 4-5 droplets with dropper. I did it laying down in bed, completely sideways with my affected ear facing up. THANK YOU EARTH CLINIC! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this, truly from the bottom of my heart -- thank you! I have FULL 100% hearing out of my left ear again!!!!!! IT WORKS. Read all other comments first before proceeding. And DO NOT use HP if you have a perforated eardrum and this will cause more problems. If your ear blockage is a result of EAR WAX, this HP method is you best to fix it. AGAIN, never ever ever ever use Q-tips! Those cause hearing loss!! Thanks again, Earth Clinic, I truly hope many people find relief with this simple, cheap and 100% effective technique. Cheers,

I recently had success clearing an ear that was plugged up from ear wax using hydrogen peroxide. My ear was so plugged that it was really affecting my hearing. It took 3 weeks of once-a-day treatments with hydrogen peroxide, but it's mostly clear now. I almost gave up after 2 weeks, when I had barely noticed any improvement, but it was worth it to persist.

Olive Oil for Ear Wax Removal

I also recommend the use of olive oil. I've used hydrogen peroxide for years, but I had a buildup of wax recently and the peroxide just wasn't doing the job. Mineral oil makes my inner ear itch.

After searching the web I found a site that mentioned the use of olive oil. You place a few drops in your ear each day with an eye dropper while you're laying down with your head turned to the side. Let the olive oil soak in for a while. I waited about 20 or 30 minutes. On the 3rd or 4th day you can try gently spraying warm water into the ear with a syringe, but this may not even be necessary. It worked very well for me. My hearing came back in that ear within about 24 hours.

Trying Mineral Oil for Ear Wax Buildup

Konstantine (Nova Scotia) on 10/09/2014

I saw a hearing specialist today, and have a earwax blockage in my ear, he told me to use a bulb dropper with two drops of mineral oil warmed to body temp. Before bed. I've yet to try this and am going to the Dr. this week to have it flushed. The mineral oil should soften and lubricate the obstruction. Good luck.

Hydrogen Peroxide, Warmed Oil for Ear Wax

Allennz (Auckland, New Zealand) on 05/28/2013

I had impacted ear wax for the first time ever. I came upon your site 'by accident' (a happy one, thank you) three days ago after rejecting medical syringing, medical suction and after the prescribed ear-drop medication inflamed my ear. This morning I can hear, the wax is gone and I am very excited to have achieved this by myself - and with your help.

I read all of your entries and began with the most intensive - warmed H2O2 for 50minutes, then 30 then 20 throughout one day followed each time by warm water rinsing . While this did dislodge some flaked material it seemed so little and there was no change in symptomology. I guessed that either I had a larger mass and/or it had become stuck near or on the eardrum. I saw that some of you had recommended the use of warmed oil. So I ended the day by proceeding the H2O2 'treatment' with warm oil for five minutes then drained, and a 20min H2O2 session, rinsed, then again applied warm oil 25 min. Overnight I applied oil and a cotton wool 'plug' to keep it in. This morning I repeated the process and when it came to rinsing after the H2O2 a substantial amount of material came out and I could hear. I did apply some more oil and intend to repeat this process again this evening. If all is well then I shall continue with this remedy on a once a week rota as a preventative. My husband, who has had some awful syringe experiences now intends to use this method too. Thank you so much everyone for your contributions.

Hydrogen Peroxide for Ear Wax Removal

Hi, just wanted to write this after trying peroxide and how it worked for me.. I don't have ear wax problems all the time but for some reason something triggers it that I'm not aware of and every once in awhile my ear start over-producing wax. I've used an irrigation bulb before and that worked well but this time I tried that and it was doing nothing.

I tried putting in the peroxide.. Waited like 40 seconds, tried irrigating.. Nothing. So I came back and read that I had to do it for like 10-15 minutes... I went laid down and put it/topped it up for like 15 minutes, irrigated it.. Nothing! I did it for like another 5-10 minutes... Got up and tilted the peroxide out of my ear... Nothing again! So frustrating I can't hear. So I go and sit down and read some more... I somehow got the idea that I shouldn't leave the peroxide in my ear and that it needs to be cleaned out so I went to the sink and irrigated it with water and BAM, I could hear, nothing came out tho so I irrigated it again(with some trepidation) and a chunk of wax came out, it was impedded in dried skin.

Thanks for the help.

After Effect of H2o2 for Ear Wax

I hope you can help with this & I'll keep it short :)

I put H2O2 a few days ago, just a few drops but only stayed on my side for 3 mins or so & then added warm olive oil after. I think I did this for 2 or 3 days, each time for a few mins only. I didn't do your advice well because I saw this article only now. But here's my problem now.

After a few days of doing that, now I experience pain in my jaw when I open & close it say while eating or yawning. Is this because I did the H2O2 treatment for so short a time that the earwax is stuck & bugging me with pain or is it something else?

I specifically logged in today just to say thank you to this site and all the posts about hydrogen peroxide! It definitely works.

I wanted to emphasize how diligent you may have to be when doing this treatment though. I didn't realize how clogged my ear was until I started doing this treatment. I always (20 years or more) have cleaned my ears with a bobby pin. It has always worked for me. Recently, my one ear was opening and closing while I slept and seemed to be creating more wax than usual. It would always pop open in the morning, though, and I would be fine. One day, it stayed closed after I massaged/tickled it. Uggh... I remained with my ear plugged up and hearing muffled for one week before I decided to try something else.

I did as others here have said to do; put the hydrogen Peroxide in a syringe and flooded my ear while tilting my head to the side. I would continually fill it and hear it bubbling. I actually used my 20 vol peroxide for hair, but cut it in half with distilled water. Worked fine. I did this for several days with no real effect. I then read that olive oil (warm) may also help dislodge it in between the HP treatments. I warmed some of that in a bowl of water and would fill my ear and put in a cotton ball during down time.

It took a full week (5 days) to start seeing an effect from all this. I started noticing my cotton ball with orangey/brown wax on it when I took it out from my ear. It is still a little clogged, so I'm continuing the treatment, but I can tell it is going to totally clear! I am so happy! It might have helped if I had better syringes/ear bulbs that could shoot water more rapidly in my ear after the treatments.

Don't give up! If you try this, just keep at it. I have an almost two-year old and had to do it whenever she would allow me to do it! LOL. I was getting a bit distressed after four days since nothing seemed to be happening. Fifth day was when it all came to fruition. It DOES work; just don't give up. Can't stress that enough.

Thanks to this site and everyone's feedback for helping me find this treatment and giving me hope that my hearing would return!

Hydrogen Peroxide Worked for Husband's Extremely Clogged Ear!

After reading the testimonials on this website, we tried the HP treatment for my husbands EXTREMELY clogged left ear. It was causing him much pain and causing us both irritation that everything had to be repeated - loudly - each time I spoke to him.

After following the suggestion to continue adding the peroxide as the bubbling subsided, after approx. 25 minutes, he went to the sink and flushed out an enormous (or so *I* thought) amount of dark orange wax. He was so pleased!

He said it didn't hurt AT ALL, but did tickle quite a bit! :-)

He can now hear perfectly out of that ear and wants to do the other one as a maintainence before it gets clogged.

THANK YOU to all who posted to this site, and especially to the people running the site!
