Small amounts of melatonin daily may help the gut and help lessen constipation. (Small amounts, such as under 3 mg daily for some people and under 8 mg daily for others. But large amounts, such as over 10 mg, may increase constipation.) Some clinical trials using 3 mg to 8 mg daily found improvements in bowel regularity and bloating for IBS-C patients.
Some people find a liquid form (melatonin mixed with vegetabe glycerin) helpful, and also easier for testing dosages.
