I visited this web two years ago in search for remedies for excessive burping and I read that gripe water works. I tried and it relieved my symptoms immediately, so thank you very much Rebecca (2007 post) for sharing your experience.I have suffered for 5 years before using gripe water, I talked to my family doctor, who recommended antacids. I tried all kinds of them with simethicone or without it but none worked.
Another thing that worked for me were probiotics, but they do not work immediately.
In fact the cause of excess burping in my case was caffeine. I used to drink 3-4 cups a day, medium or large size. After I reduced the amount of coffee to two small cups a day, one in the morning one in the midday I have no problems any more, burping is gone.
Now I have handy gripe water, probiotics which I take once a day and less coffee.
Hopefully this might help somebody out there having the burping problem.
Cheers

Re: Sulphur Burps Marcjnr (Wellington, New Zealand) on 10/10/2013

I found when I was pregnant with my 2nd child, I got the sulphur burps really bad (both ends) in the final month of my pregnancy. Got rid of it by taking 2 teaspoons of baking soda in a big glass of warm water twice a day kept it at bay. I burped out all the gases in the mornings & stunk out my house! By the end of the day it wasn't so smelly. By the 3rd day, it had subsided. Baking soda water works better than those off the shelf tablets that just upsets my stomach. I drink baking soda all the time now for indigestion. Give it a try, it may work for you....Cheers
Remedy Needed for Sulfur Burps Arsieiuni (Al, United States Of America) on 10/06/2013
I need a cure for sulfur burps! This is driving me crazy. It's sick and awful and I can't stand it anymore. It comes up randomly but lasts anywhere from a few hours to a couple days. The burps are awful. They taste of rotten egg or more like a fart. It's so gross it makes me sick and I can't eat. My stomach usually feels really sour while it happens.
My situation:
This year has been really rough on me medically. I have a long list of new conditions that all started getting significantly worse after a storm hit my house and my PTSD was made many times worse. My doc started me on Wellbutrin 150mg 1/day then changed it to 2/day. I was taking ferrous sulphate 3/day for anemia but have slowly stopped taking them then stopped altogether because initially, I thought that was the cause of this. It's not. I am still having the burps after weeks since the iron pills.
My current meds are 150mg Wellbutrin 2/day, attarax 50mg 3/day and cetirizine daily but I've taken that one for years with no trouble.
I am beginning to suspect the Wellbutrin may be causing it. But I am also without a gall bladder and have read that this could be related.
Help please! This is making me so ill.
Baking soda in water doesn't always get rid of it, only sometimes. Alka seltzer helped once but not every time. I've tried drinking oil (as a laxative) to move my system so it might go away, and that doesn't work. I am not constipated or dehydrated that I can tell. Just this awful boiling feeling in my gut and sulfur burps. (I feel it just bubbling in there like the gas is moving or something).
Please please help.

I had been burping every other minute for the past two days and it was driving me crazy (not to mention how embarrassing is) and then I read Rebecca's post from 2007... Had to go to three different drug stores but I found gripe water, took two tablespoons as indicated on the box and have not burned since... This is miracle water!!
Re: Gluten Free Diet Erica (Pdx, Oregon) on 03/12/2010

I was sick and lethargic from my freshman to junior year of college and had these rotten egg burps. After much of my own research and NO help from doctors who diagnosed me with everything from depression to ibs to stress, I realized that I had all the classic signs, plus more of food intolerance. Particularly gluten and dairy intolerance. I started a gluten free diet and have never felt better. I lost weight, have energy, have rid myself of depression and anxiety and best of all, no more rotten egg burps. Many time the tests come up wrong... I think the best test is to cut out all sources of gluten or dairy for a week and see how you feel. You will go through a craving and withdrawl period because both gluten and dairy contain sedative opiod molecules (that's why you feel so content after eating them!) I think the rotten egg burps happen because your digestive tract has a hard time breaking them down, and ultimately that food just sits there. For me, after I realized I was intolerant, it was plain as day. I took a hard honest look at my diet and realized that more than half of it was comprised of gluten or dairy containing products. Toast or cereal with milk for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, pasta for dinner. Not to mention all of the sneaky places it hides (soy sauce, anyone?) American culture leads us to believe that we need more calcium and more whole grains (from these two sources) when in fact, they fortify these foods with vitamins wheat and dairy are coating and destroying your villi, making you unable to absorb any nutrients! They just pass right through!! And don't think that just because you aren't Celiac that you are immune to the effects of these. We've been lead to believe by doctors that so many bodily functions are "normal" when in fact they are a sure sign that your body doesn't like what you are putting into it. Gas and bloating are not normal, nor is brain fog, or extreme tiredness after a meal, nor is just peeing out your vitamins (among many other symptoms that can be cured by going gfree and dairy free). During the healing process, it is very important to supplement nutrients. But until you rid your body of these sticky, inflaming proteins of destruction, you will not be absorbing much.
I hope this has made sense and I hope all of you who are experiencing what I experienced and have been cured of (by my own doing) are looking for. The gluten free diet is definitely a learning curve but once you get over it you will be so much happier. I would not give anything to go back to the way I used to feel for a piece of bread or a pastry or pasta. There are amazing resources for going gluten free out there!

I read years ago that burping and indigestion can be caused by insufficient stomach acid. I had always suffered with chronic burping after eating ANYthing! It was very embarrassing. The article suggested eating a small amount of fresh pineapple before eating, preferably 15-20 minutes before meals because FRESH pineapple has the enzyme bromelain which breaks down food for you. It works beautifully! I keep a fresh pineapple cut in the refrig and eat 1 or 2 small pieces before meals. I never burp anymore unless I am away from fresh pineapple.

For some unknown reason just in the last week I have had chronic burping and I have tried everything to get rid of it, the only thing that eliminated it quickly was believe it or not gripe water for babies, it was the alcohol free gripe water, thank God its gone! I hope this helps anyone else out there suffering from this.

I had a horrible, embarrasing smelly belch! It only happened about twice a week, but it smelled like sulpher,ie: rotton eggs! I checked the internet for what horrid diseaes I may have and found a recommendation for coconut oil. Two meals of scrambled eggs cooked in coconut oil cured me! Permanently! For the last 6 years I only use coconut or olive oil for cooking, not more "smelly burping" ever!
