Two of my children had pink-eye (conjunctivitis.) They woke up with goopy eyes. My 5 year old's eyelid was swollen and my 10 year old's eye was quite bloodshot. I treated both eyes for two days. I put colloidal silver, one drop, into each eye, morning and evening for two days. (Because it is highly contagious it is best to treat both eyes instead of just the one that looks bad.)

Because the eyes looked so irritated, I made chamomile poultices for the eyes. I took dry chamomile flowers and put some in a tiny bowl. I boiled water and covered the flowers with it, just to moisten. I took several clean small squares of cut up white t-shirt (that I keep on hand for all sorts of medical applications.) I put a little bit of the flowers into each square and folded over the edges. It was kind of like a fancy tea bag. A store bought chamomile tea bag could be used, but I didn't have any. I had both children lay down and put the cloth covered flowers over the closed eyes. (I waited until they were warm but not hot.) I set a timer for 10 minutes, during which time they kept the chamomile poultices on they closed eyes. (It was nice and quiet expect they kept asking how many more minutes! :) ) Then they tossed their "tea bags" and had a lot of relief. I did this twice a day and the silver twice a day, for two days. (I believe Dave recommends silver in the eyes no more than for two days?)

Usually I use charcoal water for pinkeye. I keep some in a dropper bottle. But I couldn't find it and decided to try this. I like to know about lots of different ways to treat the same problem. You never know what you will have available.
