Margie, the UK sell borax at aquarium stores which I think you could try, just in case the customs clearance in the US removes it from you. Thinking about how normal borax 20 mule is in the USA I can't see why they would remove it from your case/checked baggage.

There are pet supplies stores in the UK and candle making supply stores which sell real borax as unbranded bags of it. Hope this might help you or others querying to locate a supplier or purchase option.
