Hello, I have had polyps for 5 years, with no smell or taste etc. I had one operation to combat them but no good - they came back after about 2 weeks. I currently use Micromist spray three times daily as this works really well to unblock my nose. I also take an antihistamine daily to try to combat problems with my asthma and nose. I have mild asthma which gets worse with vigorous excercise, dairy products and pollen.

They are ruining my life.

The following things affect me the most: milk, cheese (I am allergic and this blocks me up so much), chocolate, alcohol (another huge blocker), fizzy drinks, ice-cream and chlorine from swimming pools.

I am going to try the Tea Tree Oil method and cut out sugar also just to make sure as I know that the polyps feed off sugar. I will apply tea tree oil straight to the cotton bud (about four drops) into my nostrils three times daily and see what happens.

I will keep you posted with the results. Thanks for reading.

Hi, just a quick update. Day three of the no sugar diet and tea tree oil (tto) mission. No results yet. I can't smell and my nose is still blocked up. The tto makes my nose run like mad and I have to insert tissue to counter this. Have been adding 4 drops to the cotton bud and inserting fully into the nose. I can't see the polyps but my right nostril seems to be much worse than my left.

Eating no sugar is making me tired and craving sweet snacks and drinks. I will persevere. Update coming soon.

I am also still using the nasal spray as I can't work without it. Maybe this will be a mistake but I have to.

Hi Doeboymcjc, I am also in London. Thank you for your updates. I suffered for years from polyps, tea tree worked for me, but my polyps were so severe I had to have surgery about two months ago. If they come back I will be using TT again. Keep up and let us know what happens with you. I started using Xylitol instead of sugar - it is very sweet but actually good for you (look it up on the net).

Hi, just an update from my last post, Sunday 19th August 2012: on 23rd August I stopped using the TTO as it made my nose completely blocked and would run for about 2 hours after use. I am not going to do this again, EVER. Sorry to those who swear by it. For me it is a waste of time as it feels like i'm going backwards.

I am still on my no sugar diet but have reintroduced carbs as I realised that I was becoming so weak that I could not think properly. I am on my forth week of the no sugar diet and still no results. I DID however get my smell back for about 2 hours in the evening on Saturday 1st September and it was sensational! But it went as soon as it came, pretty much. I am using my Micromist still three times daily. No sugar is a killer as I crave sweet things but I guess it's healthier and good for my teeth. So when my dentist asks me how I got such amazing teeth my answer will be "polyps" ;)

If this diet does not work after 1 month then i'm going to try something called 'Sinus Wars 13'. It's supposed to be a cure at about £70 a bottle. It's not a natural cure like the no sugar diet, but i'm desperate. I hate this condition.

I will keep y'all posted. Thanks.

Peace!

Hi guys, Just another update. After using a bottle of pills from a website that is supposed to cure polyps, I am about £50 down and my nasal polyps are still as bad as they were previously. What a con! My next mission is to get another professional allergy/intollerance test and cut out anything that shows up on it. I am really desperate now as my nose is really blocked all the time even with the micromist nasal spray. I asked my GP to refer me to a hospital in London on the NHS for a specialist who is the best in the UK apparently but he said that I would have to go through the local hospital first to get the referral as the London hospital would not fund it for me as i'm not in the region or something. Very annoying!

I am cutting out sugar at the moment because I feel this helps a little until I get my results from the allergy testing back. I really want to get a steroid spray or drops for the condition again as this is the only way to bring me back to normal for a while. I actually considered suicide briefly because it's so horrible living with this and I feel so embarrassed at work blowing my nose all the time. I wonder what people think of someone who fears social events because their nose is blocked - its crazy. I hate it so much. I will probably have another operation to remove the polyps and if I do then I will stay on a strict diet with only water, no bread, no sugar, low carbs etc and see if this helps.

I am going to also try tea tree oil again but not on cotton buds, in a spray bottle with distilled water as it seems to help a lot of people on here.

I will keep you posted with my progress.....

PS. I am getting sore throats a lot due to breathing with my mouth all the time and stress...

You are one of the most conscientious people here posting back about your ongoing experience. My heart went out to you after reading your postings. I know exactly what you're going through. It's so awful trying things and not getting the promised results, especially when they are costly. I've been dealing with these polyps for years. I had an operation and they came back, I lost my smell for 25 years and now they are at their worst and I hardly sleep now because they have turned me into a "mouth breather" :) I tried putting the tea tree on the polyp with a Q-tip and I too got the runny nose and was sneezing for hours but no relief. Once I made a nasal spray of 1/4C distilled water and 1/4 tsp sea salt and 1/8 tsp baking powder and a piece of hot cayenne pepper in the water and boiled it for a minute and took the pepper out and put it in a spray bottle. Ouchiwawa!! What a nice pick me up but, even better, at the time, it worked. I was able to breathe again and I got my smell back for 2 years with continuous use. It was amazing. But this time, it hasn't been working. Don't know why. Maybe because they are so big now. sigh

Anyhow, all the best to you and hope you found some relief.

Annette

Oops. By "You" I meant Doeboymcjc who came back a few times to update. Thanks for that. Also, correction:

I put the Tea Tree Oil on a cotton ball (not the Q-tip) and that's when I teared up and sneezed for hours and it had no effect. Haven't been too conscientious on the Q-tip method though. It's difficult after so many failures to "keep on plugging" but, if I do the Q-tip method daily, I will post back either way.

Best, Annette

I just started to use tto on my huge swollen polyps and it is working slowly. I use a qtip and I have had some fall out a little each day. Like I said it is slow, but in my book after years of suffering it is a small victory.

I had surgery as well, & they came back, going for allergy shots for 4.5 years now, plus nasal meds. I will try to use the TTO & see how it goes. Sick too of all the meds, plus prednisone as well. ugh, is there not a Dr that can help with all this???

Hi, just reading about the reaction your having and being put off using TTO.

Nobody seems to be using TTO on its own as the nasal passage is very sensitive. You need to mix with something else to make a weak solution. Read the previous comments and they suggest mixing TTO with distilled water for a nasal spray or with castor oil for use with a cotton bud(q tip)
