Warning

For anyone out there with tendon problems ie: tendinitis (tendonitis) please beware and search this out on the web. If you ever take the antibiotic Cipro, or anything in the same family, take note that Cipro, or members of the same family, can cause tendon inflammation and even tendon rupture! This is along with a long list of other side effects including death. I have just been on Cipro, having started taking it for a severe kidney infection. When I started to get back some old tendon pain issues, I looked Cipro up on the web and sure enough, it can be a killer for tendons - even long after you take the medication. I finished my Cipro a couple of weeks ago, and the tendon pain is increasing rather than decreasing. I also had many other painful symptoms (back pain, neck pain, headache etc... ) while on Cipro. And the darned infection has returned! I refused Cipro this time around and am on Bactrim. I am almost afraid to look up the side effects of this drug. If it wasn't for the sake of my kidneys............

I too have been floxed. I will never take any form of the anitbiotics flouroquinillones nor will any member of my family. I took Cipro in January 2011 for an UTI and w/in 3 days my knees felt tight and stiff. By the 5th day my right knee was hurting and swollen and by the 7th day my left knee was the same. A co-worker asked if I was taking an anti-biotic and I told her I was, and she said it could be the cause.

Sure enough, after researching, I found that Cipro can cause tendonitis. On the 8th day I could not even walk and have been struggling to get back to normal ever since. I am not able to run, walk for long periods of time or do any kind of activity. I was completely healthy before taking this medication and now I feel like a handicap person some days. I am only 36 yrs old. Yes it does have flouride in it. It is posion and the FDA knows and still lets this be on the market. Levaquin is the same thing. I have had x-rays, MRI's, you name it, and according to the DR's there is nothing wrong w/me. It is very frustrating and I am hoping to find a cure on this website. Something to flush this poison out of my body. My wrists, hands, fingers, ankles, toes and kness have all been effected by this crap. If anyone has any suggestions, please help!!

You may want to experiment with Zeolite.. I have tried both the liquid (Waiora= too expensive) and the powder.. (Zeoforce).... Preferring the powder for price/quality and the fact that it isn't multi-level marketed. I only take it on occasion but do notice it's effects... Seems to settle my system, lift brain fog.. Do some research on it... However, I am still a little cautious with it as I am waiting for more studies to confirm it's effectiveness in eliminating toxins..

Ted, what are your thoughts on Zeolite?

I HIGHLY ADVISE AGAINST TAKING CIPROFLOXIN!!

I am a 25 year old, 90lbs woman. I was prescribed Cipro for a UTI. After one dose, I felt extremely stiff, nausea, and was having difficulty walking. I decided to lie down (but had to get up to go to the restroom because of the UTI). When I lifted myself out of bed, I heard a loud pop in my achilles tendon and immediately was struck with intense pain. I could no longer put any weight on it--let alone walk.

Turns out after researching, I found out that one of the side effects for Ciprofloxin is ruptured tendons!!! I have greatly suffered from this drug and was unable to walk for months. Luckily, I did not need surgery as some of the tendon is still intact. Though, I am still unable to run on it, carry heavy weight, do streneous activity and that happened 6 months ago! I'm so young and I had to share my story because I don't want anyone to go through the same experience that I did!!

Please read all side effects and try to do research on prescriptions before hand, and decide whether the benefits of those meds truly outweigh the side effects. You may save yourself from serious side effects, a lifelong injury, and excess medical bills!!

Heres to a long and healthy life! ~

Cipro should only be used when death is the alternative. a) developed rotator cuff tendonitis while on drug. b) developed proximal hamstring tendinopathy a few months later.

Took drug for 8 days for suspected uti - negative. 62 yo male highly active bicyclist up until recently.

I was sick for about 10 weeks it began with a yeast infection and soon I had lower abdomen pressure. Frequent urnination, fever and headache. Finally I decided to go to the doctor because all of my natural remedies seem to not be able to end the fever and pressure so I was put on Cipro I'm a vegan, and my doctor gave me 5 days worth told me take it for only 3 days, because I'm so sensitive. Well on the third day my joint and tendons were inflamed it was hard to walk or sleep. I'm amazed that Cipro is prescribed to anyone! After reading how dangerous the side effects are... even when you stop taking Cipro it can still affect your tendons 3-6 months down the road!! I was so freaked out! I drank 2 tablespoons of turmeric in water, vitamin C and magnesuim and I'm going to continue that for a few days. Instead of Cipro I'm taking garlic oil pills every few hours. After, I'm all well I'm going to do a Fluoroide Detox program.

I too was given cipro and levofloxin during a 4 month episode with a giant kidney stone. I quit taking the levofloxin a week ago after experiencing severe pain in my right shoulder and now my left shoulder and across my neck. I was blown away when I started researching this on the internet and saw the damage this drug does to tendons. I can't believe doctors prescribe this knowing what it can do. My shoulders are weak and painful. I am now taking msm as I heard this repairs tendons and cell structure , I am also taking phenocane for inflamation and pain. Icing the area seems to help and light massage with Traumeel helps also. Any suggestions are helpful.

Hi. I didn't know if you still had problems with your infection, but I have never seen a bladder/kidney infection or kidney stones resist Dr. Schultz's K-B Formula and K-B Tea. He is in California and runs the American Botanical Pharmacy. If you follow the Cleanse he has (or just do the best you can to follow it) I can just about guarantee happy results. Even used it in the boonies of Bolivia for someone whose kidneys had become completely blocked by stones. Medical intervention saved her, but she was in extreme pain. There were no juicers out there, but after 1 week she had no pain whatsoever.

For those with side effects from taking Cipro, perhaps taking Borax will reverse the damage as this detoxes flouride in the body and restores magnesium and calcium synthesis in the body which is responsible for joint and muscle pain.

It's very easy to take. I make a solution of 500ml filtered water and dissolve a rounded 1/2 teaspoon into this. Leave it to dissolve completely stirring occasionally. Then add 5ml of the borax solution to a glass of filtered or distilled water twice a day. At this strength you can't even taste the borax.

I would suggest Diatomaceous Earth (DE) for fluoride detox. I have been taking DE for about 5 years now. I take about a tablespoon a day but most sites recommend closer to 2T a day.

Levaquin is another antibiotic that can damage tendons. I took it in February this year (2016) and have suffered since March from tendonitis in both arms and have a partially torn tendon in my foot. The doc wants it to heal naturally and said it may take a year or longer to heal. I am 65 and was very active up until this happened. It is depressing to be "down" but I am going to try the ACV. and maybe the alfalfa.

I wrote the first comment here on Cipro way back in 2011. My tendons have never been the same since taking Cipro and for a month or so, I could not walk due to my right Achilles tendon being so sore. I felt like walking would rip it apart. Thankfully, that has improved but my tendons are often sore. I am going to take some of the advice on this site, to hopefully detox.

But, for those of you who have been prescribed Cipro for a UTI, like I was, and don't know where to turn, I finally beat my almost constant UTI/kidney infection problem with Bill Munro's hydrogen peroxide inhalation method. Whenever the infection starts up, I just start back on this method and it is gone pretty quickly.

Oh - and BTW, it seems to me that the infection starts up whenever I eat sugars or grains. It seems it may be a candida issue with me.

I took Cipro for 2 weeks. I bent down to install a door sweep and 3 minutes later I was in severe pain after feeling something snapping in my knee. Quad tendon. The pain became uncontrollable. The EMT's had to carry me out to the ambulance after giving me 3 shots of pain medicine and the pain never subsided. In the ER my blood pressure went to 294 over 190 and I passed out. I had told the nurse that I had taken Cipro and she said that is just an antibiotic. I could not control my bladder. I was given more pain medication and returned a week later to another ER with the same results.

After 2 months in bed I can walk but I have pain in the thigh and back. Now I'm told I have lumbar pain and I have wonderful Physical Therapist's. I will start taking the ACV and Alfalfa.

I've taken Cipro on and off for years for regular UTIs (@ 3/year). Just now I'm realizing it was probably the reason I tore my left hamstring a couple of years ago....twice! Extreme pain, and I still need to walk carefully! I've talked with my doctor about a different antibiotic, if/when I need it.

I googled Cipro side effects, and here's just 1 of them: "sudden pain, snapping or popping sound, bruising, swelling, tenderness, stiffness, or loss of movement in any of your joints".

Also my nephrologist explained to me that it's very important to take a shower EVERY day, especially after sex, even if it's only to clean your genital area and underarms. Also, NO sugar in any form, eat healthfully, drink TONS of water, take good-quality cranberry capsules or drink PURE cranberry juice (with absolutely NO sugar); you can sweeten it with liquid Stevia.

I can believe this. I honestly think if I had taken the cipro much longer that a tendon in my arm would have ruptured. I noticed an unusual pain in my arm "towards the bend" that was never there prior to taking the cipro crap. I still feel random pains in that spot Sometimes lasting quite awhile. Now most of my pain is in my shoulder but I'm convinced the cipro had an affect on my arm too.
