I'm recovering from stomach ulcers, and I wanted to share some of the things that helped me. The ulcers got so bad that I was vomiting blood, and prescription pills do more harm than good (plus, I don't have insurance, so I can't keep going to the doctor). The most helpful thing by far is licorice. There was a study done in Europe some time ago that found that only three things really help ulcers: rest & relaxation, quitting smoking, and licorice. Apparently licorice forms a protective coating against the lining of the stomach, and not only eases the pain, but also allows the ulcer to heal by protecting it from stomach acid. For some reason the study was never published in the U.S. You can buy chewable licorice extract pills (effective but disgusting) or drink licorice tea (a acquired taste but amazing stuff). Bananas also work wonders when your stomach feels like it's on fire with acid. Ginger also works really well for indigestion, and especially for nausea. I find that eating crystallized ginger is more effective than drinking ginger tea. However, the helpful effects of ginger don't last anywhere near as long as those of licorice.

Hi Lisa ,
How do you feel now? I have minor irritations in my stomach and I believe it was caused by taking NSAID for about 10 days, stupid doctors. I currently taking DGL licorice, Mastic gum and apple cider vinegar three times daily.

Since I am from hartford CT also, I was wondering would you suggest anything else and what did you eat during that period of healing. Any feedback or suggestion would be good and I know for sure with the above I should be feeling great in a about two to three day's - Pratt
