STYLIST (INDIANAPOLIS, IN) on 02/18/2008
4 out of 5 stars

I have been battling bv for approx. 13 years!!!! i have been back and forth to several doctors and even to a specialist in urology!! i have spent sooo much money on doctor visits and prescriptions. i have taken everything possible: metrogel, clindesse, flagyl, metronidizole, rephresh, etc... it all only worked temporarily. as soon as the bv would clear up and i would have sex... 3 days later it would come right back. i have had the same partner for 7 years and have not slept with anyone else. using condoms helps somewhat, but not all of the time. i found this site while desperately searching for some help. this has caused great depression in my life as well as strain on my relationship. my sex life has suffered tremendously, but my partner is really supportive and understanding. he just wants me to try and get to the bottom of this. i have been taking the folic acid and acidopholus pills for about 3wks. now. i started taking them after clindesse cleared up my last bout with bv. i had not had sex in about a month and just had sex this morning. i only washed my private area with hydrogen peroxide after sex, because i did not have a douche bottle. i hope and pray the folic acid and acidopholus pills work at preventing bv from recurring!!! i will post back in a few days to let you all know. if this works i will forever be grateful! this bv problem is really annoying and it ruins my sex life.

This question is in regards to the question and comment by "stylist from Indianapolis.... I have the same issue myself I have not yet tried the peroxide/H20 but have the Flagyl it worked but like Stylist said after sex the odor and discharge came back ! So now my question is does anyone out there know if this may be caused by the mens side?

Hi - it is possible to continue to get infections after i/c....you may be passing the infection back and forth...you should have him do a course of soaks along with you. Also, anything that changes your PH may be causing the re-occurences as well - these include condoms, gels, pre-ejec fluid, your own vaginal lubrication, etc...

I suggest you treat both of you simultaneously for 7 days....then when you resume i/c do a soak / flush (both of you) and see if the BV stays away that way.

Good luck

Yes. BV can be caused or contracted from the man. It is your bacteria and his mixing together that causes it. Having the same partner is great, but are you his only partner? And your diet is 99% of the reason for BV. Look into what you are eating and your mate should as well...
