Norovirus seems to be on the rise in the US and Europe. This virus seems to spread very easily through multiple methods such as food, cooking surfaces and human contact. This stomach virus for some is over in as little as three days, but in people aged 65 or older it has caused death. There currently is no specific treatment for Norovirus and antibiotics offer no benefit given that the pathogen is a virus. It would be useful to have some plan, especially for senior citizens that can help fight the virus. Obviously Colloidal Silver Nanoparticles would be a useful choice because of its very broad spectrum antiviral properties and its ability to engage directly with the virus in the stomach/gut, but there are other antiviral supplements that are likely to be helpful also.

Oregano Essential Oil (OEO) which can be purchased in soft gels that are easy to swallow and also a very potent antiviral and have shown the ability to kill human norovirus surrogates and is a very easy delivery method of a form of the oil that you know is designed for oral use by humans. Lemon Grass Essential Oil (LGEO) also has shown similar results. Garlic is another broad spectrum highly potent antiviral. Green Tea Extract (GTE) has also shown such activity. Olive Leaf Extract (OLE) is another potent antiviral, but I seem to be very reactive to it, so avoid it. Having a handful of highly potent antivirals to choose from is likely to be very helpful in trying to stop a norovirus encounter as quickly as possible.

1. Colloidal Silver Nanoparticles Liquid
2. Oregano Essential Oil Soft Gels
3. Lemon Grass Essential Oil
4. Fresh Garlic
5. Green Tea Extract Capsules
6. Olive Leaf Extract Capsules

Lastly, Ginger, also available in capsules may be a useful adjunctive to the above for the purpose of calming the digestive system against nausea and vomiting which are common norovirus symptoms. From the above list, #1 and #2 would be my choices for their ease of use and availability. I usually have both on hand at all times.

I just wanted to give some feedback on this potential remedy for Norovirus.

Yesterday, Sunday, I woke up feeling tired, fatigued, my stomach felt odd and I had chills. I had a really good breakfast that I would have normally finished with no problem because it tasted so good, but I was only able to eat one third of it. I didn't eat lunch because I wasn't hungry. By about 4:00 pm I had diarrhea. I couldn't figure out why, but then I thought about the multiple remedies mentioned in the original post to this thread and remembered the top two choices I had mentioned for Norovirus, colloidal silver (CS) and food grade oregano oil (OO) in soft gels and thought this might be an ideal test for one of the remedies. I decided on colloidal silver to test as I almost always have both on hand.

I drank 16 ounces of 20 ppm clear yellow colloidal silver (CS) right away after I realized I had diarrhea. After about an hour, I felt much better, the fatigue was gone and the diarrhea was over! About an hour after that I had dinner, all of it! All that was left was gas and that was soon gone. I also did not take any of the ginger that can be useful for further calming the digestive tract.

This morning I felt normal and was able to go for my 2 mile walk after drinking another 16 ounces of CS. I plan to drink a five day course of CS to insure the offending pathogen is completely irradicated.

Obviously there was no way for me to know for certain that this was Norovirus, but I had several of the symptoms and whether it was Norovirus or a bacterial infection, CS is well known for killing both types of pathogens. There is currently no specific medical treatment for Norovirus. Norovirus is not helped by antibiotics. Norovirus has proven fatal in senior citizens. Norovirus is already double last season's peak level. Norovirus is spiking in the US. Norovirus can be easily spread through food. I think the most important fact about Norovirus is that according to the CDC, ' Norovirus is the leading cause of vomiting and diarrhea, and foodborne illness in the United States. Always wash your hands and handle food well. '

I had never tried CS for diarrhea, but after it stopped my diarrhea in just an hour, CS will be my go to for diarrhea! I have never tried anything that completely stopped my diarrhea in just one hour!

The following link takes you to a very short article on how Norovirus seems to be rising sharply and possibly more than the statistics indicate due to non reporting by people who get it :

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/norovirus-wave-twice-last-year-cdc-data/#:~:text=This winter's wave of norovirus, tracking the notorious stomach bug.

Here are some relevant article quotes :

' This winter's wave of norovirus infections has reached levels that are now more than double last season's peak, in figures published Monday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tracking the notorious stomach bug. '

' Labs usually test samples of sick people's stool for the virus, which can be diagnosed up to 10 days after symptoms begin. The virus can also be found in other samples, including contaminated food or drinks that can spread the virus. '

' Rates of norovirus in that CDC system have reached levels at or above last season's peak in all regions of the country.'

' Labs usually test samples of sick people's stool for the virus, which can be diagnosed up to 10 days after symptoms begin. The virus can also be found in other samples, including contaminated food or drinks that can spread the virus. '

' Experts say this year's early and steep surge of cases is being driven by a new strain of norovirus called GII.17[P17], which has displaced a previous strain that had dominated previous waves of the virus in the U.S. for a decade. '

' That new strain has been spotted everywhere around the country, including in many cruise ship outbreaks, a CDC official told CBS News. '

' More than 7 in 10 outbreaks have been linked to this new norovirus strain this season, according to the latest CDC figures. '

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Although younger people usually recover from Norovirus without problem, senior citizens don't fair as well as discussed here :

https://academic.oup.com/ofid/article/10/11/ofad556/7378823

Here is a very relevant quote from the link :

' Each year, norovirus is estimated to cause approximately 900 deaths and 109 000 hospitalizations in the United States, with 86% of norovirus-associated deaths and 43% of norovirus-associated hospitalizations occurring in adults aged ≥65 years [7]. '

That's my update!

Art, I was under the impression that CS collects in your body like a heavy metal. I didn't know it was ok to drink 16 ozs at a time. Interesting. And thank you for your information.

Hi Bex7,

A friend who has HIV went through a two year period, many years ago, where he had no insurance and could not afford the meds that were keeping him alive. He had no choice other than CS to keep him alive until he got new insurance to cover his meds. He survived the two years by taking high dose CS. It took him 2 years to finally get a new insurance through his work to cover his meds. He was using 16 ounces a day of 20 ppm CS. His was a unique situation where he essentially had no other choice. I am not recommending anyone do what he did, but he felt he had no other options to choose from in his specific situation.

Silver will accumulate at least temporarily in various components of the body if you are taking a high enough dose and can have the potential to do damage. Apparently his dose was tolerable for him.

I only mentioned what I did that helped me, but I have also taken that dose for a month as one of my self experiments, so I know I can tolerate the dose with the only side effect I noticed was constipation that started right near the end of the experiment and I attributed that to killing off both good and bad gut microbes.

I have also seen a woman who used 8 ounces a day for a severe MRSA knee infection which it worked for, but once it cleared the infection she decided to keep taking her 8 ounces a day of 20 ppm CS because she was afraid the MRSA would return. I don't know how long she took it because I was no longer keeping track, but I was aware of at least two years.

As with any supplement or drug, the dose makes the difference between, effective and toxic. To me the science has plenty of room to expand more on this aspect of CS. In previous posts I have recommended against using CS everyday for long periods of time because it kills good bacteria in the gut as well as bad, just like an antibiotic regimen would. Another issue with everyday use of CS, at suboptimal dosing, is the potential for bacterial resistance to CS developing. There are already bacteria that are resistant to CS. No need to make that list any longer. After using any antimicrobial regimen whether natural or man made, I always suggest taking steps to rebuild the gut microbiome after the regimen is complete. Yes, this applies to the other antimicrobials on that list also. The longer you use them, the more important that point becomes.

For people who's doctor will not approve that dose of CS, there is still the other five supplements to choose from which are all less expensive than commercial colloidal silver (AgNPs). Oregano oil is a highly potent antimicrobial also that most doctor's will agree to as are the others on the list.

Just as with many other medications, pregnant women should avoid CS altogether as the effects on the fetus are unknown.
