Povidone-iodine Nasal Spray:

I suffer from regular sinus issues caused by candida and polyps. This recipe has worked the best for me so far. It's portable so you can carry it with you in your pocket. It does not burn at all so it's pleasant to use.

Regularly use 2 – 5 times a daily with a Nasal Spray Irrigator and home-made saline. Povidone iodine is a powerful antiseptic and disinfectant. In contact with skin and mucous membranes povidone iodine works quickly and has a microbicidal effect (causing the death of a broad spectrum of bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa).

Material needed:

  • 30 ml empty nasal spray bottle
  • Distilled water
  • Sea salt
  • Baking soda
  • Povidone-iodine 10%
  • Eye dropper
  • Empty clean water bottle
  • Peppermint oil (optional)

Recipe:

1. Add 1 teaspoon sea salt and 1 teaspoon baking soda to empty “clean” water bottle.

2. Add distilled water to bottle, cap and shake til salt and baking soda have completely dissolved. This is your saline solution.

3. Add 2 full eyedropper of Povidone-iodine (roughly 50 drops) to the empty nasal spray bottle. 2 drops peppermint oil. Top bottle off with your saline solution.

4. Use this spray twice in each nostril 2-5 times daily for a few weeks to resolve sinus infections, congestion and polyps.

IODINE TINCTURE NASAL SPRAY:

It's been 5 years since I originally posted about the use of Povidone-iodine 10% in a nasal sprayer. Since then I've read ALOT of old medical books 1850-1930 about the use of iodine in the sinus cavities. So I want to share what I've learned.

The above recipe Povidone-iodine nasal sprayer worked great during the covid plandemic.

During the 1880's, doctors were spraying “Tincture (Alcohol base) of Iodine” diluted into the patient sinus cavities either in liquid of powder form (called dusting) along with other treatments like neti-pot sinus wash.

EXAMPLE:

Coryza. (acute inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose, with discharge of mucus; a head cold) — In chronic coryza, and especially in ozæna, we must recommend iodine. It is used in watery solution or tincture, applied within the nasal fossæ by a pencil or by injection or spray.

Dusting iodine powder into the nose is an excellent remedy for drying up an excess of mucus discharge, if this discharge originates in the nasal mucus membrane. Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, by F. B. BLACKMAR, M.D., May 1932.

Over 2 years ago, I started making nasal sprayer with lugol's water based iodine as an ingredient in my nasal sprays.

About 6 months ago, I made one with Tincture of Iodine (Humco Brand) and I could tell a big difference.

So, after a month of being a Guinea Pig, I am sold on using Tincture of Iodine 2% diluted in nasal sprays

Material needed:

  • 30 ml empty nasal spray bottle
  • Distilled water
  • Sea salt
  • Baking soda
  • 20+ drops Tincture of Iodine 2% (Humco Brand USA manufactured)
  • Eye dropper

Recipe:

1. Add 1 teaspoon sea salt and 1 teaspoon baking soda to empty “clean” water bottle.

2. Add distilled water to bottle, cap and shake til salt and baking soda have completely dissolved. This is your saline solution.

3. Add 20 drops Tincture Iodine to the empty nasal spray bottle. Top nasal spray bottle off with your saline solution q.s.. I only use 20 drops Iodine. You can try more to your tolerance.

4. Use this spray twice in each nostril as needed til it improves your condition.

Do NOT use if you are allergic to iodine

I also use nasal sprayers in my daily health regimen, usually a fine-mist nasal sprayer using mineral water + 4 drops 5% Lugols Iodine + approx 1/8 tspn sea salt. This protocol helps to both disinfect as well as moisten the nasal, mouth and throat regions. I would never use Povidone Iodine(PI) internally because this form of iodine is essentially bonded to a plastic atom that is derived from crude oil. It's OK to use PI externally if you must but PI should not be supplemented internally in any shape or form. Always use the original 5% Lugols Iodine if you are taking iodine internally.

My main daily protocol -- using a modern day neti bottle -- helps to directly disinfect my sinuses, nasal cavities, nasopharynx(area behind the nose), throat and mouth regions. I use a modern 300ml neti bottle with a V shaped plastic nozzle. You simply add mineral water + 1/2 tspn salt + 5 drops of 5% Lugols Iodine to the neti bottle then tip it upside down and, after pressing the button on the bottom of the bottle, water is allowed to flow freely into your nostril like a modern neti pot. I also find the modern neti bottle much easier to use than the older porcelain neti pot, which I have also used in the past. I now use both the nasal sprayer and my neti bottle every single day as protection from dangerous viruses and bacteria.

I also live in the tropics and use aircon at night which always tends to dry up my nose, mouth and throat regions causing me to wake up frequently thereby interfering with my sleep. So this is another reason for me to use the neti bottle and my nasal sprayer which help to suitably dampen all nose/throat/mouth areas so that I can get my precious sleep. Apart from using Lugols Iodine in my nasal sprayer and modern neti bottle, I have also substituted and used Xylitol or Hydrogen Peroxide instead of Lugols Iodine in both my nasal sprayer and neti bottle protocols.

And please don't ask me where I purchased my neti bottle because I bought it from a local online retailer in the Philippines(where I live) called Lazada -- which isn't going to be much use to you if you live in Europe or the US.

I tried to include a jpeg image of my 300ml neti bottle in this post using copy and paste but, unfortunately, pasting images is not allowed. So here is a link to Amazon showing the type of neti bottle that I use now:
