This worked well for me:

1. Use a shampoo which has ketocanazole 2%. 3 times a week. for 2 months

2. apply coconut oil mixed with amla everyday(you will get in indian stores)

3. Mix one cup of ACV and 5 spoons of honey and 30 ml of tea tree oil(all are powerful antifungal indegridents) in 1/3 gallon of water and apply to you hair every day for a month.

4. for oral take terbinafine tables 250mg(lamisil) for 15 days.

As preventive measure you could drink 3 spoons of Apple Cider Vinegar 3 spoons of honey mixed with water for an year.

Please note all natural herbs take 6 months to cure dandruff from roots.

Dandruff Remedies: Have had to struggle with dandruff for many years ? Maybe this should help ...

1. Think Aftershave - few drops on your palms and massage this with your fingertips on ur scalp.
Do this for a few days and see dandruff disappear !!

'Note: Women should be careful though, not to spill it all over the face and thus avoid facial hair growth...
2. Alternately, you could mix the aftershave with ur gel and apply to scalp
3. Few drops of alcohol would also do (if u don't mind the 'smell')
4. Petroleum Jelly is also an option - massage a little on scalp with fingertips
5. Vinegar too works in addition to a hundred other uses - use few drops directly before a bath or add to bath water / mix it with the shampoo...
6. Same application with lemon drops, as with vinegar
7. Vaseline hair tonic helps too, if you haven't tried it already

My husband has had a bad case of dandruff or psoriasis or something like that for a long time. We tried a lot of cures like rubbing oil on his scalp before going to the sauna, rinsing with ACV, a milder shampoo and the only thing that seemed to help was toasted sesame oil which I can't find easily here in France. Still, we have discovered that although everything seems to work the first day after that his hair would be covered in dandruff again. Now we use mustard oil before the sauna, wash with the mild shampoo and rub a bit of coconut oil every morning and evening. He also washes his hair less often and so far so good! The coconut oil seems to keep his scalp moist and therefore free of dandruff!

Oil of Oregano. I take the capsules. Cures dandruff and flakey skin at bridge and sides of nose. If I quit taking Oil of Oregano, the dandruff comes back.

Dandruff. Rain water is the very best to shampoo with and then the most wonderful rinse you will ever use. Leaves your hair shiny and soft as baby hair. You will be thrilled. If your rain water is not perfectly clear when you collect it, let it settle and then carefully strain through a coffee filter. Do not collect the rain water in aluminum. Enjoy!

Red Wine Vinegar

Stats: 30 yr old male; Short hair (might make a difference for some of you)

Symptoms:
Started getting noticeable dandruff this last winter. My skin dries out really easily and winters in Chicago can definitely dry me out. Was noticing it most on the pillow when I woke up but, the more I tried to "treat" it with different conditioners and shampoos, the worse it seemed to get.

Finally, I found the best and least stinky way: Red Wine Vinegar.

Solution:
Tried a couple of variations using Trader Joes products(Tea Tree Shampoo and Tea Tree Conditioner). Tried Shampoo first and then followed up with the solution. Nope. For a while, I also tried the solution and then followed up with the Conditioner. It was ok(the tea tree/peppermint was nice and cooling), but I still noticed flakes.

The best solution I've come up with is no shampoo and no conditioner. I simply use the following solution once every couple of days:

I just use:

-1/2 Red Wine Vinegar
-1/2 Water
-Mix and put into a spray bottle.
-Wet hair, spray, let soak for 30 seconds-ish and then rinse twice.

It's actually pretty amazing. I was worried my hair would get too greasy or that my scalp would freak out, but I simply use that solution every other day(or so. on off days I just rinse with water), but the solution de-greases my hair while still leaving it conditioned and my scalp is very happy. It also passes the girlfriend test for smell. If I'm feeling paranoid or I run out of Red Wine Vinegar and have to switch to Apple Cider, I simply spritz some essential oil or cologne on my hand and run it through my hair.

Good luck!

Hello- I have had dandruff for some time now, and I recently used salt on my head and other parts of my body to reduce odor and cure my dandruff. Don't know why, but it works. I guess the salt kills any bacteria that grows on your skin.

Hi Kinsley, I'm very intrigued after reading your posting. What exactly is your routine? Are you doing this in the bath or shower? Is the salt a brine solution? Do you put salt on first and then soap after?

Epsom salts: this worked for me too. Take a handful and rub onto wet hair (before shampooing). scrub onto all areas of the scalp. let sit for a minute and rinse off. Then I shampoo and condition as normal.

Shampoo

I had dandruff, and super itchy scalp for many years it was making me crazy! I tried the ACV/ hydrogen peroxide the effects were temporary. One day a friend was discussing her travels to a Third world country and when she returned home with itchy spots/splotches of fungus all over her skin. She was lucky she saw a doctor who knew what it was! Miracle! She was instructed to put Selsun blue on her body for 30 minutes everyday for thirty days and it worked. So I thought maybe I would put Selsun Blue on my scalp for thirty minutes and try it for a couple days Selsun Blue is strong stuff. Anyhow the first time I tried it in the shower and it made my skin itchy that night So I decided it is safer to wash my hair in the sink I gently massaged Selsun Blue into my scalp waited and rinsed. RESULTS: DANDRUFF IS GONE NEVER TO RETURN

Tea tree oil for scalp psoriasis or itchy, flaky scalp:

I mixed about 8-10 drops of tea tree oil with about a tablespoon of coconut oil and massage it into my scalp, leaving it on for several hours or overnight, then wash out. It really helps control the itching and flaking! I do this about once a week to keep it under control. I wonder if I did it more often or daily, if it would cure the problem, but I haven't tried.

WARNING!

Be careful about putting 100% tea tree on your scalp. I know that in one of Ted's remedies he speaks about putting pure 100% tea tree oil in scalp. I caution you about this. I tried this, (put a small puddle of tea tree and rubbed through entire scalp, to get rid of dandruff, and an itchiness, and my scalp, months later is still very red and inflamed, sore and burnt. (and am losing alot of hair). I do not want this to happen to any one else. So, please, please, make sure you only use tea tree if it is mixed with a carrier oil like olive oil so you do not burn your scalp. (maybe some people can put the 100% tea tree onto their scalp, but, I am still suffering the aftermath). So spot test first!!!

Tea Tree Oil

I've had a mild case of dandruff for the past couple of years, but a few months ago it intensified. I have not figured out exactly what triggered it, I just knew that I had to something about it. I began developing open sores on my scalp from all the itching, and there was a lot of flaking. I had been taking apple cider vinegar orally for all of its benefits, but I began applying it to my scalp. While this stopped the itching for a while, as soon as I washed my hair, any improvements disappeared. I then began using a tea tree oil shampoo and applying coconut oil instead of a conditioner, and while this improved the quality of my hair, the itching and flaking remained. I work at a vitamin store, and one day I'd discovered that we carry straight tea tree oil, and I bought it and began massaging it only my scalp every other night, leaving it in my hair for the night and washing the next morning with my tea tree oil shampoo.

I also began taking two 1200 mg of organic flaxseed oil every day, as well as evening primrose oil. It's been about a week and the results are amazing! I have no itching, no flakes, and the sores are almost healed. I've even began using the tea tree oil on small scrapes I get on my hands from sculpture, and I find they are healing much faster than without it. This is an amazing find, and I would recommend the system to anyone.

Vitamin B Complex

I am 27 years old and have had severe dandruff for since I was 13 years old. When I say severe, I would have flakes the size of a pencil eraser, daily, with the itching scalp.

I was always told that topical treatments were the only way, so I used shampoos. I also used apple cider vinager as a scalp wash externally. This worked, but I knew an external treatment was not the real cure to dandruff, dandruff came from the inside out, so it must be treated from the inside out.

The REAL CURE FOR DANDRUFF is a vitamin deficency, in particular B-complex vitamin's. These vitamins are destroy in todays food because heating foods and pasturization.

I am currently in my first year of schooling to becoming a Homeopath. My nutrition teacher has been preaching about B-Complex vitamins.

The type of vitamin you buy is VERY IMPROTANT, you can not buy cheap vitamins. I have no ties with any companies, but what I used and trust is _____. They are a whole food vitamin and totally organic. The majority of B-Complex vitamins you can not take on an empty stomach, because they will cause nausea. These whole food B-vitamins are one of the few that can be taken on an empty stomach with no side effects. Anyways, this is the first complete month of my life being dandruff free, curing the problem from the inside out, addressing the root cause, not treating the symptom. I hope this will help others with there Dandruff. Good luck

Hi Fern, I am so excited for you! Mnay members of my family are homeopaths!! Can you please send me the name of the vitamin you take for dandruff? My scalp is very itchy and dandruff has appeared now... I am concern about tis problem! Someone else suggested taking organic virgin coconut oil, applying it on the skin and taking it as well. Do you recommend doing this?

Please let me know!

I just wanted to update everyone, I am almost finished my last year of homeopathic training, and Ontario is the first province in Canada to start regulating the profession, which is great news. If the B-Complex does not help, I can confidently say from all the clinical experience at the school, that homeopathy can do wonders to actually put the body back in balance and permanantly stop the dandruff cycle. Find a good local homeopath in you are that is EXPERIENCED and practices CLASSICAL HOMEOPATHY. Good luck everyone.

I read a story about a girl who cured her dandruff just by washing her hair in water with no soap or shampoo. This seemed too easy, but I tried it. Now, a few weeks later, my dandruff is almost gone. Very few flakes, it's just going away. You want to get rid of your dandruff, just us your finger nails and water for about 15 seconds when you wash your hair. It really works. Lardiver

I suffered with dandruff for years, and it got worst as those years went on. Like many others with this problem, I tried every dandruff shampoo. Nothing worked. I even bought I lice treatment because I thought I had lice. I thought about shaving my head many times.

While I cannot remember exactly how I came across this page promoting apple cider vinegar, I thank God I did. When I first read all of the positive reviews, I thought I would have to buy something when I scrolled down to the end of the page. The solution to intense itching and flaking could not be as simple as vinegar I thought.

So I went to walmart to purchase the vinegar. I was willing to try anything, as I was at my wits end. They did not have acv, but they did have a huge bottle of white distilled vinegar for $1.82.

When my hair began to itch, I sprayed the vinegar onto my scalp using a spray bottle. I did not dilute it. After the first few minutes, I felt relief. It also burned. I let it sit on for an hour, then washed my hair with a moisterizing shampoo.

My hair never felt so fresh. Usually I have flakes even after washing my hair. Usually I have an itching attack within the next 3 days. Not this time. Now I would not say I'm cured, but its a real improvement.

I wish I knew about this sooner! This is life changing! I no longer feel insecure that flakes may be showing. I feel normal now. Spread the word! Vinegar for dandruff should be common knowledge.

When first getting in the shower, wet hair and take 1 cup of white vinegar and distribute it over hair. I have mine ready to go in a glass measuring cup. Rinse WELL before opening eyes, and then shampoo and condition as you normally would. I do the vinegar first because otherwise it strips my conditioner off instead of the residues and hair products I want it to. This serves numerous remedial functions: dandruff, lice, improved hair shine, clarifying, just try it. It is cheap and amazing. Smell will disappear as hair dries.
