Well-Researched Natural Remedies for Thyroid Cancer

on Feb 27, 2023| Modified on Feb 28, 2023

Thyroid cancer is a type of cancer that affects the thyroid gland, which produces hormones that regulate the body's metabolism. The most common types of thyroid cancer are papillary and follicular, which are usually treatable if caught early. However, more aggressive types, such as medullary and anaplastic thyroid cancer, can be difficult to treat. Iodine deficiency is a significant risk factor for thyroid cancer, especially in areas with low iodine intake.

In this article, we will explore some of the most well-researched natural remedies and supplements for thyroid cancer, including iodine, selenium, vitamin D, curcumin, green tea, ashwagandha, omega-3 fatty acids, and probiotics.

1. Iodine

Iodine deficiency is a major risk factor for thyroid cancer, particularly in regions where iodine intake is low. The World Health Organization estimates that about 2 billion people worldwide have insufficient iodine intake. This is a significant concern, as iodine is necessary for producing thyroid hormones essential for normal growth and development. Iodine deficiency can lead to goiter, hypothyroidism, and an increased risk of thyroid cancer.

Research by Dr. Brownstein and Dr. Abraham

Dr. David Brownstein is an American doctor who has extensively researched the link between iodine deficiency and thyroid cancer. He has found that iodine deficiency is a major risk factor for thyroid cancer and that iodine supplementation may effectively prevent and treat the disease.

In his book "Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It," Dr. Brownstein states that iodine deficiency can lead to an increased risk of thyroid cancer, breast cancer, and other types of cancer. Dr. Brownstein believes that iodine supplementation can help reduce cancer risk and improve overall health.

Dr. Abraham, another American doctor, also researched iodine and thyroid health for decades. He found that iodine supplementation can help reduce the risk of goiter, hypothyroidism, and thyroid cancer. He has also found that iodine supplementation can help improve immune function, reduce inflammation, and support overall health.

While iodine supplementation may be beneficial for preventing and treating thyroid cancer, it is important to note that iodine supplementation should not be used as a substitute for conventional treatments such as surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. In addition, iodine supplementation may not be appropriate for everyone, particularly those with certain types of thyroid cancer.  It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any kind of iodine supplements, as they may interact with other medications or have potential side effects. The dosage and duration of supplementation may also vary depending on the individual and the type and stage of thyroid cancer.

Lugol's Iodine

While Lugol's iodine may benefit some people with thyroid cancer, it should not be used as a substitute for conventional treatments such as surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. In addition, iodine supplementation may not be appropriate for everyone, particularly those with certain types of thyroid cancer.

The American Thyroid Association recommends that individuals with thyroid cancer should be monitored for iodine deficiency and that iodine supplementation should be used cautiously in individuals with papillary or follicular thyroid cancer, as these types of cancer may take up iodine and may be treated with radioactive iodine therapy.

It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before taking Lugol's iodine, as it may interact with other medications or have potential side effects. The dosage and duration of supplementation may also vary depending on the individual and the type and stage of thyroid cancer.

2. Selenium

Selenium is a trace mineral essential for thyroid function and plays a role in the body's immune response. Research has shown that selenium supplementation may benefit people with thyroid cancer, particularly those with papillary or follicular thyroid cancer. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that selenium supplementation improved quality of life and reduced the risk of disease recurrence in people with papillary thyroid cancer.

3. Vitamin D

Vitamin D is important for bone health and immune function, and research has also shown that it may have a role in cancer prevention and treatment. A European Journal of Endocrinology study found that low vitamin D levels were associated with a higher risk of thyroid cancer recurrence. Vitamin D supplementation may therefore be beneficial for people with thyroid cancer.

4. Curcumin

Curcumin is a compound found in turmeric, a spice commonly used in Indian cuisine. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and has been shown to have anticancer effects. A study published in the journal Cancer Letters found that curcumin inhibited the growth of thyroid cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, suggesting that it may have potential as a treatment for thyroid cancer.

5. Green Tea

Green tea is rich in polyphenols, which are compounds with antioxidant properties. Research has shown that green tea may protect against certain types of cancer, including thyroid cancer. A study published in the International Journal of Cancer found that drinking green tea was associated with a lower risk of thyroid cancer.

6. Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine. It has been shown to have various health benefits, including reducing stress and inflammation and supporting immune function. A study published in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine found that ashwagandha supplementation improved quality of life and reduced symptoms such as fatigue and anxiety in people with thyroid cancer.

7. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids that play a role in brain function, cardiovascular health, and inflammation. Research has shown that omega-3 supplementation may benefit people with thyroid cancer. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that omega-3 supplementation reduced inflammation and improved quality of life in people with papillary thyroid cancer.

8. Probiotics

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are beneficial for digestive health. Research has also shown that they may have a role in immune function and cancer prevention. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology found that probiotics improved gut health and reduced inflammation in people with thyroid cancer.

Summary

In conclusion, while conventional treatments for thyroid cancer are essential, natural remedies and supplements may also help support the body during treatment and improve overall health. Some of the most well-researched natural remedies and supplements for thyroid cancer include lugol's iodine, selenium, vitamin D, curcumin, green tea, ashwagandha, omega-3 fatty acids, and probiotics.

It is important to note that while natural remedies and supplements may help support the body during thyroid cancer treatment, they should not be used as a substitute for conventional treatments such as surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.

In addition, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any supplements, as they may interact with other medications or have potential side effects. Dosage and duration of supplementation may also vary depending on the individual and the type and stage of thyroid cancer.

In summary, natural remedies and supplements such as iodine, selenium, vitamin D, curcumin, green tea, ashwagandha, omega-3 fatty acids, and probiotics may benefit people with thyroid cancer. They may help support the body during treatment, improve quality of life, and reduce the risk of disease recurrence. However, it is important to use these remedies and supplements in conjunction with conventional treatments and under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

I had a biopsy done for cancer on my thyroid about five or six years ago that came back as suspicious. I was told it is hard to diagnose your thyroid unless it is removed and tested. It was enlarged and the doctor said it was either cancer or a goiter, I had been reading up on alternative method for treating cancer and decided to not have surgery or radiation, I tried following the cancer diet on http://cancertutor.com/ this site has various alternative methods for cancer including the Budwig diet which I now eat every morning for breakfast but I mainly follow the raw vegetable and fruit diet concentrating of those fruit and vegetables that have cancer killing properties in them. I also once a week now eat salmon for the fish oil. I am supposed to stay completely away from bad oils, sugar and things high on the glycemic index. I was supposed to eat the raw vegetables and fruit for two weeks then drink nothing but either fresh carrot or grape juice the next two weeks nothing cooked and no meats. Carrots and black grapes are considered the best foods for killing cancer. I chose the carrot juice because the grapes juice was just too sweet to drink all day long for two weeks. But it was hard to stick to this diet trying to prepare meals one way for myself and completely different for the rest of the family so I was constantly going off and on it. I stuck to it the best I could but when it came time to retest my thyroid I got on the stick and did nothing but drink carrot juice for two weeks and the test came back that the tumor had shrunk 1/3 its size so that was proof to me these alternative methods work and would complete get rid of whatever problem it was goiter or cacer if I could just stick to it.

Recently the main thing I have come to terms with is that sugar and starches that turn to sugar, (anything high on the glycemic index) causes you to crave things and makes it hard to control the diet. I realized this a while back and once again I am trying to stick with it. Sugar can hide in the most unlikely places so you have to be really cautious about what you eat and read all labels. I have gotten to the point I can tell when the tumor is growing, I can feel it plus it start hurting slightly, when it does that I eat a whole raw carrot and the next morning the pain goes away and stays away for several weeks, then I try to motivate myself to get back on the diet and manage to for a while. I hadn't felt the tumor for a while so I had another test done about a year ago which showed the tumor was still there but since it was by a different clinic they didn't have the original test to compare.

There are more expensive alternative methods on this site that are supposed to work much better but I choose to try to tackle the cause of the cancer which is my diet. Hopefully this time I can stick to it. I plan to have it tested again if I can manage to stick to the diet for a full six months which is the time span they say it takes to get rid of it. But one thing I have learn is that I will always have to pretty much stick to this diet even when the tumor is gone because when you get off of it you open yourself up for the cancer to come back because a bad diet is the main thing that causes cancer, so in that respect there really isn't a true cure.

But as it is I am still here and just trying to eat right must have helped even if I couldn't stick to it completely.

Looking at the research. Cayenne seems to deal to other types of cancer cells besides just prostate, it might be worth going on a regime of about 400mg a day.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Posted by Debbie (USA) on 02/27/2023

I have currently have stage 3 thyroid cancer and suffer with severe sinusitis. Other than that I typically do not get sick. I am 45 years old. I have about a 6 weeks until surgery. I am wanting to try hydrogen peroxide therapy in order to save my fully working well thyroid. Cancer has only spread to a local lymph node. I needed to know if there are any foods or medicines otc/prescriptions that should not be taken with this therapy.

I am very healthy overall. I currently take LDN (low dose naltrexone), ivermectin, 1 baking soda capsule, and women's multi vitamin pack. I do not eat any sugars (90% of the time) including fruits right now. I am eating no processed foods. I only eat organic meat (no beef or pork), veggies (raw and cooked), and eggs.

My hope is to shrink the tumor so that it may show in my next ultrasound March 28th.

Please let me know if there any interaction issues with what I listed above.

I will be doing a 4 day water only fast starting Monday, Feb 27th. Then have bone broths and such and the a 7 day water only fast.

Will that also be okay with HP therapy?

I am time limited before the docs can even see a difference of my current 2 cm tumor in lymph node.

The cancer was found accidentally, by my new ENT doc. No symptoms/signs of cancer. All my blood work is good, no other sickness or diseases.

Thank you for your help.

I didn't see you mention iodine. I had a large goiter and multiple nodules a few years ago, shrunk them by doing the iodine protocol. Good luck with your thyroid cancer. They wanted to remove mine and I decided to keep it, but I didn't have cancer either.

Debbie,

In the following study they show that melatonin suppresses thyroid cancer via multiple methods of action including inhibition of proliferation and migration of thyroid cancer cells(TCC), induces apoptosis and redox stress in TCC, melatonin inhibits NF-kB signaling which suppresses thyroid tumorigenesis and melatonin synergizes with radiotherapy to induce cytotoxicity to TCC :

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5854931/#:~:text=6G)., 6H).&text=Melatonin suppresses growth of thyroid, or in combination with irradiation.

Here is a relevant quote :

' In our present study, we have shown that melatonin significantly decreases clonogenicity and inhibits proliferation of DTC and ATC cell lines as a single agent. Melatonin could sensitize TPC-1 and 8505c cells to irradiation via inhibition of NF-κB through suppression of p65 phosphorylation and induction of ROS in vitro and in vivo. Our data suggest that melatonin-induced radio-sensitization may have clinical benefits for thyroid cancer. '

As far as dosing, Dr. Shallenberger has reported using 180 mg/day in all of his patients and 360 mg/day in his stage 4 cancer patients.

Ted's Thyroid Cancer Remedies

In response to:

Posted by Geralyn (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA) on 03/15/2009: "I have a question. I have a relative that was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. They took the Thyroid out but could not get all the cancer because it wrapped around a nerve. Now they want to take her voice box out and give her 1yr to live. What can I suggest to her to start taking now.If she listens to the doctors she has now Yes indeed she will die. I am open for anything that can help. Thank-you very much in advance."

I have found bloodroot tincture, using ethanol, not methanol most useful. It usually reduces cancer size by about 1/2 for most tumors in a matter of days.

The remedy is often 4 drops taken 4 to 5 times a day. It requires several bottles of these to have an effect, assuming each of the tincture bottles are about 4 ounce bottle. The other thing is alkalization to reduce the acidity that causes the pain and hence neutralizing the acid is important. That said the baking soda and potassium is 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of tripotassium cittrate in 1/2 glass of water taken three times a day. There are other ways to tame the cancer, all of which I have tried, seems to all work well aso, but I believe the remedies mentioned here is the most effective by far both in speed of reducation and some pain. I can't elminate pain entirely, but initially the clove oil did work for a couple of months before they developed some kind of resistance. The clove oil is 1 drop per glass of water well stirred or a diluted clove oil in olive oil say 5% clove oil in olive oil is applied to the area where a cancer is present seemed to have reduced the pain. BHT I think is necessary to prevent the cancer from going to other areas. The dose is around 1000-1500 mg a day. There are a lot of remedies of cancer I have tried, but these are my favorite. The theory of cancer is it' might be a viral or a fungal, depending on their speed of spread. A metastasis for example are viral in their nature, and BHT and clove can handle them rather well. A slow cancer are often fungus and mycotoxins and are neutralize from the BHT, akalization, and a newer remedy I am looking into, which is ammonium chloride. The ammonium chloride dose I used is only 1/16 teaspoon per 1/2 glass of water once or twice a day. Seems to help clear some of those fungus out, along with the usual alkalization remedy.

In some third world countries, they don't have anything to treat them. Therefore I revert to the simplest of all cancer remedies I have known, and it works consistently well too. It's called hyperthermia. It's basically the application of a hot water bag kept around 45 degree celsius and applied to the cancer area involved and it has so far worked remarkably well where nothing is accessible, not even an electric blanket.

The other primitive remedy I used second to hyperthermia is sea salt, which is useful as it seems to dehydrate them to some extent (fungus has some weakness for salinity). The dose is 1/2 or 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt per day in 1/2 glass of water.

It should be known that if nothing works, hyperthermia or the use of heat using a hot water bag works well. In more modern countries, perhaps a hot cold gel, where we put the gel in hot water, sufficiently hot, but not enough to burn the skin for a couple of hours. In other locations of the body, it's possible to also sit in hot water tubs.

The most exotic of all cancer remedies I have tried was azoxystrobin, which is a fungicide and a 30% solution I may use only 1-3 drops twice or three times a day. Of course, this idea was based on fhe fungus theory of cancer. However, it did seem to work, but a tumor is quite dramatic with a bloodroot tincture.
