When you start drinking (cold) green tea with mint, hot flashes will disappear. It works for me and also for my sister who had them for the past 6 years. We take about 1 liter per day... But you will know when you don't drink enough because they will return (less heavy but noticeable enough to start drinking more tea! ) :-)

Cooling Cotton Sheets

Night Sweats -

This is the simplest remedy EVER. Hot flashes in the night might be caused by the material in your sheets and/or comforter. I started to get horrible night sweats last winter and thought, this is it... menopause is here and it really sucks. A couple of months went by and I finally figured out that the new sheets I had bought that were supposed to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer were actually roasting me! After an hour of sleep, I was literally drenched in sweat. Smartly, I put my old cotton sheets back on the bed and guess what, I slept well and had no sweating. I then spent the next few months searching for the perfect cotton sheets that would keep me cool. Bought an inexpensive set on Amazon that were marketed as "the sheets your grandmother used to have". NO. They were itchy and scratchy and definitely NOT what grandmother used to have! Horrible. Then I bought bamboo, expensive sheets from Bed Bath and Beyond after the sales person told me they were the coolest sheets around. Guess what, I really roasted in those too. So once again I went back to my old sheets. They are cool to touch and I have no idea the brand because they washed off a long time ago. Night sweats be gone.

I was having multiple hot flashes and also not sleeping well. My blood work said I was deficeint in Vitamin D. Since I started supplementing four weeks ago I am now sleeping and the hot flashes have been cut in half. Is this a coincidence?

I had night sweats for more than ten years and finally last summer they stopped completely, as well as my monthly period. I was very happy to move on with the next phase of my life, but earlier this year the hot flashes came back with a vengeance. I was undergoing a series of tragic circumstances in my life and I would have a never ending rolling wave of heat from the moment I put my head on the pillow until 6:00 the next morning. I thought that stress had caused them to come back and I tried ACV, iodine, vit E, GABA, borax, Dim Plus and every other cure I could find. When reading through the latest posts several days ago, someone mentioned about D3 and hot flashes and I finally made the connection.

Earlier this year I read an article about the dangers of too much D3 and I decided to cut out my supplementation which was at the same time all these events began. For the last couple of days I've been taking 5000iu morning and night and I've had only a couple of flashes in total. I'll be reducing that to one a day once the flashes are completely gone. Thanks to all the contributors to this wonderful site, you've helped me with many wonderful changes in my life.

Regarding the dangers of Vitamin D3 maybe you would like to read the book The Vitamin D Revolution, or any other on Vitamin D (I reviewed it in the book section). There is a lot of misinformation out there, it pays to be informed!

To Helpplz: I buy mine at a feed store, 50 lbs for $21.00. It's real name is Diatomite Silica. You can buy it at nurseries and garden centers, too, but for far more expensive. We drink ours. I don't have hot flashes when I drink it. I took several tablespoons twice daily, and the next day the flashes quit. I vacationed in the Carribbean without air conditioning for two weeks, and the flashes still didn't happen.

I also quit having gluteal hamstring pulls--I have no idea why they quit the day after I began taking the silica. I'd had them for 5 years previously, as long as I'd been running. However, four months ago I changed my running form from heel strike to forefoot strike, and the hamstring pulls never recurred, even without my taking silica. Strange, but my knees and ankles quit hurting when I changed form, too.

When I quit taking silica, however, my hot flashes returned.

I can't tell what else silica did for me because I am not aware of having any other health problems.

Dietary changes work for hot flashes. It is a simple matter of imbalance. I quit eating sugar. I lowered my salt intake and watched my fat intake. I got rid of hot flashes. I just plain don't have them anymore. Many years now. Balance your diet. Also watch for food intolerances or allergies.

I too believe it's an imbalance. I am still getting hotflashes during the day, and while I'm reading in bed before I fall asleep. I also think I can think myself into a hotflash. But I am taking the advice on the ACV, as well as other supplements I need to get that balance. Before I started on this journey to better health (with EarthClinic guidance) I remember now that I was sweating profusely when I got a hotflash. I'm not anymore, and the hotflashes are way, less intense. So something is working. My food intakes is mostly vegetables, then fish/poultry, then fruits right with my meals. Then I also use them as snacks in between. I drink water mainly, love Ginger Tea (I grate the root and make my own), and add Blackstrap Molasses to that. I also use Coconut Oil every day by scooping a tbsp of it into a glass container with a lid, and setting it in warm water til it melts. Then I just drink it. I am hoping to be rid of the body-temp swings eventually.

Hot flashes are THE WORST! I just got through several months of absolute hell! I got some great herbs from a chinese medicine woman in Atlanta and took them for 4 days- and the flashes were gone!

Mine were as severe as can be- she also gave me the food guidelines- and even after they left- I kept up with all of the above to keep them away.

What worked for me is below:

1) Go gluten free- NO WHEAT. There are alot of great gluten free products on the market including pasta, crackers and bread that make this do-able.

2) Avoid SUGAR- nothing with cane sugar - try to go easy on fruit also because it is very high in sugar

3) NO ALCOHOL at all until you get the hof flashes in order (this is the worst because I LOOVVVEEEE wine! ) - this is probably the worst culprit and made a huge difference.

Once you get the flashes in order- if you need a glass- just 1/2 glass occasionally.

4) According to Chinese Medicine- the kidneys need to be strengthened- that is the reason for the urinary urgency. I think to get the urinary urgency part in check- you need chinese herbs.

5) Really pay attention to your food - you would be surprised how much of a difference this makes- EAT COOLING FOODS:

Meats- Fish and Pork are cooling- Beef, Shellfish and Chicken are heaty and will make you hotter than you already are.

Vegetables- no potatoes, carrots, these are heaty foods- go for green veggies and squash which are cooling. I got amazing relief from eating Green Cabbage.

Rice- Brown Rice, not white

Fruits- go easy- if you need fruits- blackberries are good- just things lower in sugar

Juice- No Orange or citrus juice- if you must have some juice- drink apple. Watering down is good too.

NO SPICY FOODS at all. No cinnamon, nutmeg- both are warming.

NO CAFFEINE

6) Take cool showers- I do a warm shower then end with making it as cold as I can stand it.

7) Acupuncture helps also- I do this weekly to balance hormones

8) For me- the fatigue was because I was napping through the flashes at night and not getting enough sleep. It is important to try to get some sleep- try to read at night instead of watching TV or being on the computer- that riles you up more.

9) The sadness of the life shift passed once I stopped sweating to death, and once my body got back in balance. It feels like you are dying- but it is really that your body is trying hard to balance itself and needs assistance. It will get better.

Thanks for your lovely encouraging words - and to know we're not alone with these horrible constant hot flashes. I am in about month 3 I think of these hot flashes and I didn't sleep at all last night... I just flashed one after the other with cold periods in between. I feel like I'm withdrawing from drugs! Its a nightmare. I am doing acupuncture too... This will be my 4 session today and it helped alot with my moods and feelings... Not so much yet with the heat. I am taking the cooling herbs but I am still not getting better. I hope one day this ends, because like you, I feel like I am dying!

Applying either blue chamomile essential oil, or a combination of peppermint and lavendar essential oils (1:1 ratio) on your front and back solar plexus, navel and heart chakras in the morning and just before bed does wonders to keep hot flashes to a mimimum.

I started having hot flashes and night sweats about a year ago. I did a lot of internet research and the following treatments helped really reduce the frequency and intensity of them:

I gave up coffee, spicy foods, wine, and chocolate (mostly) I started meditating and I take a 400 IU of vitamin E 3 or 4 times a week. Sometimes I will eat some delicious spicy Indian food, but I do it knowing the consequences.

My friend's Mom started having hot flashes before menopause. She fixed the problem by donating blood regularly. She is now in menopause and does not get hot flashes.

This makes a lot of sense too for those in menopause. Without their monthly periods, women start accumulating more iron and whatnot in their bodies. Perhaps that leads to the hot flashes because their bodies are not used to it.

For 2 years now, I have been able to avoid hot flashes by not having caffeine. I even had to stay away from having too much decaf coffee otherwise the small amount of caffeine in the decaf would cause me to flash. Shortly after I started taking ACV (2 tbsp. 2 times a day) for joint pain, I had read that people were having success with it helping hot flashes. I decided to try drinking regular coffee again and I am still hot flash free! The ACV is wonderful!!!

I found if I eat sugar of any kind, I will wake up soaked. So a small chocolate bar or piece of watermelon after dinner will do it. I do not eat anything after dinner now. That stopped my night sweats.

Essential Oils

I resolved hot flashes very quickly using good quality essential oils on the body.

1. Soak in sea salt baths once daily. Upto 20 mins of soak with atleast 1 lb sea salt in the water.

2. Take a shower with soap and water after this.

3. Dry off, and liberally apply lavender essential oil, or a combination of lavender, tea tree and rose oils (1:1:1) on your front and back solar plexus, heart, navel chakras. (Google to find a pic of these chakras so you understand locations).

4. Re-apply oils upto 4 times daily, and especially before bedtime and upon waking up.

This combination of oils (after salt baths) adds green and pink prana to the aura, and this in turn keeps the chakras in a normal size. This prevents the body from getting hot flashes.

Nothing has helped resolved my hormonal issues aka hot flashes like this protocol.

And please, find therapeutic grade essential oils, because this stuff gets ingested into the body, so quality is crucial.

Good luck, I KNOW you will be free of hot flashes after this. Tina

You might not like this but I have read several times that women who exercise seriously ie sweat, increase pulse and respiration are much less likely to get breast cancer and much less likely to have menopause problems such as hot flashes.
