Hidradentitis Suppurativa

Hi, firstly can I say thank God for this site! I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and have had HS for the last 3/4 years. Through your site I am now realising that I may have had this disease for longer but before my hysterectomy I was on the contraceptive pill Diannette which I see from some previous posts has helped with HS.

I started off on the cures for boils as this was what I thought they were and went with the turmeric and garlic as I get severe outbreaks on my groin and buttock area. Neither of these worked for me unfortunately.

On reading through this wonderful site I now realise that I have HS and have been trying to treat it for the last 6 months as I was due to go back in for surgery and after having this done previously to no avail realised that I should start looking at alternatives.

At present I am on ACV with mother and Manuka Honey twice daily, shower daily with non scented soap and apply dressings with tea tree oil cream to affected areas to keep covered and stop spreading any further.

I haven't had a new outbreak for about 6 weeks (which is the longest in a while) but the problem that I have is that 1 of them is still leaking and there are 2 big holes at the area and the others just aren't going away. I am a very patient person (as you have to be with this) but wondered if anyone could provide any other things that I could try.

Thanking all of you for your help

Hi Susan, I too was diagnosed with HS in 2008 and I know how devastating it is. What you are doing now is fine, but pls. go back to using Turmeric as follows: 1 tea spoon turmeric some black pepper 1 table spoon of oil some fresh lemon juice (1 table spoon) stir and add water and drink - from time to time add 1 spoon of powder ginger this is to be taken from 2 to 3 times daily. Lemon alkalizes your body and is a good antioxidant and does kill the strong smell and taste of turmeric for those who can't stand it.

Also add 50mg of zinc supplement to your daily diet, some people take metformin which helps.

Stay away from sugar and caffeine, sugar is a terrible trigger and try to cut off fats and white wheat from your diet. You might find this hard at the beginning, but you will get used to it. Try to see a doctor re. those holes so he can clean it to stop this leakage and start healing - always dry youself up very very well after showers.

We do all we can, HS doesn't really go away but we try to contain it as possible we can, good luck.

I have had this HS disease for about 16 years including a pilonidal cyst .The pilonidal cyst was treated 5 yrs ago with some herbs from a herbalist. The hidradenitis superetiva has gotten 95 % better because of the use of the Avocado bark. Avocado leaves and bark are used to kill streplococous bacteria. I poured boiled water in a water jar rand put a small piece of bark, I always used fresh bark. After the mixture has cooled l drank it. I drank it five times a month during my period for about 3 mnths, mybe it might differ in people.

I hope someone will be healed by this too. I also tried turmeric but for me it made a little change. l also had one of the worst Hidradenitis suppurativa. If anyone wants to hear more just ask. Sorry for my English its a second language to me.

I want to keep this short.

I was suffering from Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) for almost 10 years. I started taking ACV when I was in the Middle East and the HS problem started. I was never able to link it to ACV. When returning back to my home country, I stopped taking ACV and the problem of HS was completely gone.

I recommend anyone suffering from HS to avoid acidic/high citrus foods such as lemon, ACV etc.

Last week I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and I read some papers that are linking HS with hyperthyroidism. Please do check with your doctor and do some research. I know how painful these skin problems are and just sharing my observation here.

Avoid Bubble Baths

I used to get boils in the groin area and just could not figure out why. I finally figured out what was causing this ailment after years and years of wondering. I had for years used bubble bath and I used many different ones throughout the years. Once I ran out and forgot to get some and again kept forgetting to pick some up. I didn't get any boils for a while. I bought some more bubble bath and I again got boils. I finally realized that whatever ingredient was in these bubble baths was causing my problem and I stopped using it altogether thank goodness. I am now boil free. So if you think that products are not harmful something as simple as bubble bath, think again. I won't use it ever again. I am a bath person as I like to soak and relax in a tub and I loved my bubbles.. but have learned to live without them.

Like many, I suffered from HS since puberty (so now about 10 years). I only went to the doctor once as a teen, this was quite traumatic as she simply told me I wasn't keeping myself clean. After that I started showering multiple times a day which caused the infections to get so bad I couldn't even walk. Now I know I'm extremely allergic to synthetic parfum and sulfates (also suspecting benzoates). I can't have it in anything, even if I wear clothes that've been washed with a 'wrong' detergent I'll break out within the hour. However, when I avoid bad soaps I'm 100% healthy (skinwise). Dietwise I eat mostly organic with much fruits and veggies and no porc, little sugar etc.. So I'm not sure if I would have infections again if I'd eat unhealthy. BUT I do smoke, drink coffee and alchohol, which doesn't seem to have any (negative) influence whatsoever.

I have several auto-immune conditions, one of which is Hidradenitis Suppurativa. I manage all of them by monitoring my diet. Over the years I have found several things to ease the HS but by far the best was just avoiding nightshades and other trigger foods. I found citric acid to be especially problematic. It was no fun avoiding my favorite foods like mashed potatoes or tomatoes, but I did so in order to achieve clear skin. Then one day I came across an old book called, "The Ultimate Healing System" where the author mentioned something I hadn't heard before. The author stated that if someone has a "sensitivity" to a food, there is usually an antidote for it, which is typically a deficiency. Meaning, that the "sensitivity" would be reversed if one corrects the deficiency. So I began to focus instead on making sure I was consuming all vitamins my body needed. I am unable to take anything, not even supplements, on a daily basis otherwise my body tends to become sensitive to that item.

So I started with taking a B complex supplement that contained about 100 mcg of B12, every other day (making sure to take only supplements with limited amounts of "extra" ingredients). I saw some improvements in my overall autoimmune symptoms. But when I went to get my B12 levels checked with my doctor, they were found to still be in the 400s range, which is not optimal at all. He recommended I take a higher B12 dose.

So I purchased a B12 supplement that contained 2,000 mcg per capsule. I began take 3 capsules per week (one on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays). I continued with my regular B complex on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. A couple weeks after beginning this regimen with the added higher B12, I noticed I was no longer breaking out at all. I tested this by going for Mexican food and had enchiladas drenched with tomato sauce. No reaction. A few days later I ate mashed potatoes. Again no reaction. Since then I have eaten nightshades so many times with no reaction! The HS was gone!

I decided to stop the B12 for a week to see what would happen when I ate nightshades. The breakouts returned. I started the B12 again, and my skin cleared pretty quickly. I googled to see if there was a connection between B12 and HS and I did find one small study where someone's HS was cleared with higher doses of B12.

Anyway, I wanted to share this to hopefully help someone. Raise your B12 levels and other vitamins and minerals to optimal levels and you will see a marked improvement in your symptoms.

Just an update to my prior comment. The high dose B12 (2,000 mcg) was keeping me up at night so I stopped it. I then switched to a B complex that had more than the 100 mcg from the one I had been using (400 mcg) and thankfully it was enough to maintain the therapeutic effect. I can still eat nightshades and other trigger foods without causing a flare. So play around with the dosage and find the one that is right for you. 100 mcg daily was not enough but the 400 mcg in my new B Complex was enough to keep the flare ups at bay.

I have suffered from HS for 30 yrs and have tried all doctors have to offer alternative remedies for relief. Bach (origional flower remedies)Rescue Remedy in spray or liquid..on boils and absesses 4-5 times daily. When caught early it resorbs/when in full "bloom" it helps drain and heal. I find myself craving Indian and Morocan food lately..will try the Tumeric remedy.

Hey everyone! I'm 23 years old and had sufferend from HS from the age of 16 - 22. I tried turmeric, tea tree oil, anitbiotics, surgery, antibacterial soap, natural deodorant, no deodorant, no shaving, creams, accutane, birth control... none of it worked.

What finally worked for me was Baking Soda. Just plain old, straight up, arm and hammer baking soda. After I shave, I just pour some into my hands and rub it on my underarms and inner thighs. I haven't had a flare up for a good 6 months and I'm happier than ever. I know this solution may not work for others, but everyone's body is different, and it's possible this may help someone. I understand the shame and the pain involved with this disease, but I want to encourage you all that there is a solution. As I said before, everyone's body is different, so each of us need different solutions. Here was mine. Hope it helps someone.

With Hope, Shanay

I have been taking baking soda internally every morning with lemon juice, why this helps is because it balances the pH levels in your body. Infection can't thrive in a non acidic body, so this helps balance your pH and help the body become more alkaline. What doctors also MISDIAGNOSE about HS is the fact that a lot of times the staph bacteria is what turns HS from a minor issue to a debilitating condition. Ask your doctor to check for Staph and then if Doxycycline or Bactrim does not work, try the baking soda with lemon juice. I have tried everything under the sun and this is the only thing that works for me. It's not only hormones, it's an actual infection.

Bandaids

So this may be archaic but I found bandaid Tough Strips (not the fabric ones) are a godsend for me. They are waterproof and stay on through showering and sex. I have HS in my groin area and it is triggered by stress and hormones. I can not wear underwear on a regular basis or the friction will cause an abscess. This poses a problem during my periods because I need to wear underwear on at least 2 of the days and hope I do not get one. What I do is put one of those bandages over an existing abscess or budding abscess. It creates a barrier between my groin and the side of my leg so that when I walk there is no friction and I can stop limping. It doesn't hurt and if I leave it on long enough my body will reabsorb what is inside the abscess and it will go away on its own. This has taken up to a couple of weeks before, but that was when I was super stressed so it was trying to get worse not better anyway. Usually less than a week. If the bandage comes off for some reason I just put on another one. It has just been so helpful so I wanted to share.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read your comment because I have been doing the same thing for about 8 years. I have HS in the same area and the "outbreak" is always the same spot. It has left me with a tiny spot that when I flare up that's where it drains. I keep a bandaid over it ALL the time and is really does help with the friction. It's just a part of my normal routine now.

good news for everyone who are suffering with this disease. my daughter was suffering with this disease for the last 2yrs , i have tried everything u name it and one day in my home i found a herbal antibiotic. actually my uncle use this herbal antibiotic for general purpose and asked me to try this one. you can't believe it the very next day i saw the difference. boils which were open were like going to be disappear soon.

i am writing you the details of this antibiotic but would like to say one thing. this medicine effects on my daughter very quickly probably she is very young and respond immediately to this medicine. but as more adults are suffering with this.. i have a feeling its will take slightly more time probably it will take a month or more . but please try it. she takes one tablet everyday for the last 4 months. i dont know how long i am going to give this medicine but certainly not going to stop soon. at least she is not a victim of Hidradenitis Suppurativa anymore.

the name of the _____ is bee propolis. its a wood supplement. if you couldn't able to find it feel free to contact me.

Hi, i read the post about "Black onion seed" you use it by getting 1 tsp to a boil in one glass of water keep it boiling until the white part of the seed shows, let cool off and drink it, its very simple you can add honey for taste. There are some people who prepare a lot to last a whole week, its best done fresh in my opinion - I have not used it yet, but I was told its very good for HS and it helps stopping the boils from occurring.

I use turmeric and sometimes add burdock root powder with it- 1 tsp turmeric 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp honey sometimes I add 1/2 tsp of burdock root and sometimes I use a few drops of olive oil.

I use this without the burdock root daily 2 or 3 times a day. I also use another mixture, 1 lemon with turmeric without the cinnamon and honey - lemon kills the taste and strong smell of turmeric and helps boost the immune system.

You can find the Black Onion Seed, in any middle eastern, Lebanese, herb shop.

I hope this helps someone out there, good luck.

I'll start by saying I was skeptical about taking Borax-but after reading many of the posts here & on other sites-I decided to go for it. I figured worse comes to worse, I'd have an excellent cleaner!

Anyway-I was looking for something to help w/Hidradenitis Suppurativa-which is basically cysts in your armpits, sometimes in groin & under breasts. It's horribly painful & can be embarrassing-especially when they burst. Doctors have no idea what causes it either & is treated w/tetracycline-a strong antibiotic or biologics &/or incisions & draining them.

That doesn't cure it-they come back. And no one should be on tetracycline or biologics all the time!

I started taking 1/8 of a teaspoon dissolved in a bit of warm water right after breakfast.

I started it on Monday-today is Saturday & the cysts are all gone! I'm shocked it worked so quickly!

I'm also an insomniac-I have been since I was a kid-& w/in a couple days I was falling asleep easier & staying asleep! I've been able to go off a couple of OTC meds I was using to fall asleep also in just a couple of days!

I also have fibromyalgia & usually have a flair up a couple times a week-but not this week! I'm knocking on wood that I don't have any more of them-but even if the flare-ups are just lessened it would be great news for me.

FYI-I didn't really have any herxing & I'm hoping I don't-but regardless, I'd continue taking this amazing mineral.

Thank you, Ted, for spreading the news of this natural medicine! You've literally changed my life!

Borax

I was experiencing a horrible auto immune condition called HS (Hidradenitis Supperativa). Very, very painful and debilitating.

I decided to try the borax protocol to attack the autoimmune condition. In six weeks all symptoms of my condition had disappeared and it is 10 months later and I continue to be healed. I now drink borax water once or twice a week. I drink 1/4 tsp in the liter of distilled water once or twice a week. I give 1/4 of the above mentioned dilution to both my children once or twice a week. My Mom has been drinking it daily for 9 months (after seeing my amazing results) due to a number of health afflictions, and has skin growing on her legs where she has had open wounds for 30 years from a recluse spider bite. My coworker drinks the above mentioned dilution daily and has had a significant reduction in her rheumatoid arthritis pain. In fact over the winter she was shocked to 'notice' she was barely hurting in her hands at all... I was desperate for answers when I tried this and I'm so glad I did.

Decide for yourself, trust your instincts. Good luck.
