12/17/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: You are probably low in vitamin B complex and also the timing of ACV and baking soda. The acv and baking soda if it is taken in the morning hours it must be done after meals. But if lunch and dinner, it works anytime, but also works best after meals. Don't take it directly before meals, it's not designed like that. I think you did it the opposite. The other problem is if vitamin B complex is deficient, the stomach digestive process doesn't work, vitamin B complex gives them the boost, indirectly by helping out the liver functions, considered the warehouse of food storage for the other organs.
There is one more you mentioned, constipation, if often caused by lack of alkalinity that is dealt with in ACV with baking soda, but some people do not respond to ACV/BS, so there is another, baking soda and lime juice that works fine also, because some people just don't respond to ACV. The other common cause of constipation is potassium deficiency, for which potassium citrate or potassium bicarbonate is the common remedy. It is 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon, after meals also. Once a day is usually fine to help relieve constipation and bad breath (this remedy alkalizes your saliva). I found magnesium chloride (the one I use is dechlorinated with sodium thiosulfate) solution and it is 7 to 8 drops of saturated magnesium chloride solution, taken twice a day also relieves constipation.
Fried foods and cooked meats are common problems also, as is drinking too little water! Most medications are short cuts to existing ailments and don't resolve the root of the problem and it becomes one life long remedy, which you don't want, so it is best to fine the root causes.
Hope you are well, I want to ask you about ACV mixed with backing soda, last couple of days I fill very tired and somnolence all the time.
I find that thats normal cleaning process like a fastening, or there something else. I make one coffee spoon with tree four coffee spoon ACV.
morning and evening Please let me know if I doing right
05/26/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The sleepiness from taking ACV and coffee together causing some tiredness during detox has to do with the body is not detoxed enough and a person will need to take 1 full glass of water with a pinch of sea salt. This should neutralize the toxicity of the body buildup from the caffeine in the coffee. The body if it has excessive coffee with some acetates from the vinegar tends to cause sleepiness instead of jittery because one is acid forming and the other is alkaline forming and the ACV cancels out caffeine which causes sleepiness as the body tries to rid of it through the liver. But because the body tries to rid of it, there is not enough water to rid of it quickly enough and the body then becomes tired. Therefore, drinking 1 full glass of water and a pinch of sea salt did the trick.
05/26/2009: Pierre writes: "Ted, I forgot to tell you the problem they I have with my Allergy is there and I remark that when I started to detox my body the red point on my body and face are more intense and bigger like before. Should I continue to take the allergy killer - or I have to stopped. And if that the way to make cleaning the body or just fasting will give me fasters responces.
05/26/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes, "Most allergy at least the redness of the skin is a condition where the body is acid. This can easily be proven with a pH paper to measure for both saliva pH and urine pH. It's very likely either or both of that will have pH below 6.5. The most common figure I encounter is usually below 6. This is a pH in which most yeast and fungus grows since it assumes that the body is in a decay and breakdown, which they generally are whenever the body is acid. Most baking soda will raise urinary pH to around 6.5 to 6.8, but not higher. A sodium citrate can raise easily raise to 7.0 to 7.3. Most sodium tends to raise the urinary pH, which are extracellular fluids most easily if the urinary pH is below 6.5. The potassium seems to be critical for salivary pH, which controls the intracellular fluids and pH so if it is acid, either a potassium bicarbonate or preferably a potassium citrate (technical name tripotassium citrate) is the preferred pH to raise them quickly. The most serious pH I have found that effects the health is usually the salivary pH which are rarely below 7, but in practice people who are sick it is quite common to see them below 6.5 and have symptoms of allergy. The allergy in most cases from pH has to do with fungus, and yeast infection, mostly fungal in nature. Since the intracellular fluids is sensitive to calcium, it's often best to avoid high calcium products such as dairy products, fermented products, mushrooms, asparagus (high in excitotoxins), tomatoes, potatoes, peanuts and peppermint oil, notwithstanding artificial sugar and sugars in general. Fried foods seems to worsen the condition also. If the rashes doesn't disappear, certain hair mineral analysis may reveal certain heavy metals off the charts, such as lead, cadmium, mercury , copper, and then some. Magnesium supplements around 500 mg, in half glass of water, preferably magnesium chloride will generally reduce the skin problem too. However an allergy is also relates to deficiency of fatty acids and fish oils 1000 mg, evening primrose oil 500 will help, while granulated lecithin one tablespoon a day reduces liver toxicity, usually from alcohol and caffeine consumption.
11/07/2011: Haidar from Iasi, Iasi/romania replies: Hi Ted. My name is Bogdan I am from Romania and I have a form of gerd with silent reflux. I have been to the dr and he told me I have Gerd and bad motility. I took 3 years ago treatment with 0 results. My gerd is weird because I get realy nausea bloated and no energy when try to eat protein meals like meat all kinds whey protein(i weight train)... I do not know what to do.. If I eat only cabs I feel energetic but it bloats me and after 20 min I feel bad. Also in the summer time I sweat really bad(never before). I gan verry easy fat and body water and it's verry hard to looose it.
Earthclinic.com has some remedies and I will try to add potassium to my BS. Other side effects are BAD BReath, slow motility, sweatting in summer time, cold hands, BURPS, dry skin, some hairloss, cloudy urine(i take some suplements), bloating feeling verry bad afer meal. I tried everything digestive enzymes probiotics, Bcomplex magnesium(gives me bad NAUSEA and reflux), herbs, DGL Ulcetrol(now foods) so so so many for liver bile etc.... Nothing works.. To have energy I tale ALCAr and for brain some choline , PS, B6, ... For muscles it is verry hard I ccannot eat basically much protein only small meals with some organic meat and some protein shakes.. My life is a ruin.... My urine ph is 7 but I never tested saliva Ph but I think is acidic.... If I try to stay away from carbs I feel ok but less energetic in a few days....
What to Ted- what to do???? Some told me I have low stomach acid but I took betaine and results are I felt worse........ Basically I am sick from everything: bananas, apples, all green vegetbles etc.. meat especially stays long in my stomach..Please help me!!!!!!
I was reading, on your posting, about using baking soda and apple cider vinegar for acid reflux. I have an eight year old daughter, who has had reflux since birth. It has gotten better since she was a year old. I was hoping that if would go away on it's own, but it has not.
Do you know of any remedies for children? Is there some way to make it more palatable? I have trouble ingesting "odd" things with an empty stomach. It usually does not stay down. Could you mix or chase the baking soda/vinegar mix with broth or something?
04/11/2009: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Children seemed to like the fizz in a lemon and baking soda remedy. That's 2 tablespoon of lemon juice plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water. Because of their small size at 1/2 the weight of a small adult 100 pounds, they can drink even just 1/4 of that.
One quick question: Do I need to mix ACV and baking each time fresh, or can I mix it ahead of time, like in the morning for the whole day? Howlong will the mix keep? 5 minutes? One day? One week??? Thank you!!!
Many greetings from Germany, Dirk
09/11/2008: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Dirk:
If the solution is premixed with ACV and baking soda, they tend to spoil in room temperature. Therefore it is best to keep it in the refrigerator in a closed container and use it only once per day. That means mix it enough for once a day and refrigerate should not have problems.
08/28/2010: Joey from Makati, Philippines replies: Good am Ted. One quick question only. For 5 days I took your recipe of 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and 2 tbs of ACV for my acid reflux. You suggested to rest after for 2 days. There was a slight relief. Then I went to the doctor due to chest pain. And said I had gastric ulcer and had to undergo endoscopy. I just went thru it and the result was I have a case of mild antral gastritis. Dont' know if the recipe help but I was given meds(pantoprazole) again which are costly. My question is can I still take your recipe now? Sorry if it was a long question. Please reply. Thanks and God bless
I would like to ask if ACV w/ baking soda works for my hyperacidity problem? I was diagnosed for hyperacidity last january. I was prescribed with antibiotic and PPI's which works a month ago after taking it but then after a few weeks it comes back again and I think because of my eating habit. I know taking those over the counter medicine has some bad effects in the long run. So I'm just wondering if ACV w/ BS works for my problem? How would I take it? I also read from other sites that Olive Oil is best for hyperacidity, is this true? is it okey to combine it? taking 1 tbsp Olive oil 30 minutes before meal and take ACV w/ Baking soda before bed time? I hope this will help me because I really want to be cured the natures way. Thank You and God Bless.
07/25/2008: Alain from Ottawa, Canada replies: Hi Rayman
The following may help you as well as others as acidosis come with modern way of life, especially modern way of eating.
The most dramatic thing that happened to me was the understanding of the pH balance and its effect on gout. You don't have gout, but you already know that you have to improve your body's pH.
The concept is similar to that of the body requiring constant internal temperature; the blood must be at an almost constant pH level in order for chemical, bio-chemical, and hormonal reactions to proceed appropriately. The body will do everything to achieve this at the cost of making acidic the lymphatic system and other organs, if the nutrition does not provide for the necessary good nutrition. Like, for example, drinking a lot of soft drinks is terribly acidic. So, proper body's pH balance is a prerequisite for good health.
I would strongly suggest you to buy pH paper strips and measure the pH of at least your urine. It's not expensive and is a good investment. It will help you determine if after taking action, you are going into the right direction. pH of 7 is neutral. pH lower than 7 indicates acidity. Urine pH should be between 6.5 and 7.0. You will probably see that yours might be below 6.5. If so, I think it will indicate that you are in the acidosis pathway.
There are solutions you can take, I will provide more info later. But the drinks are for short term only. You know that you will have to modify your nutrition. There is just no escaping that.
First some info about the pH balance.:
These are just a few of what can be found in the web.
Reduce sugar, industrial food, especially soft drinks. To reduce one unit of acid, it may require five to twenty unit of alkali.
In the short term, if you want a quick fix go to: http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/alkalizing_formulas.html
for some info about alkalizing formulas.
If one is overweight and/or has water retention problem, use a formula using potassium bicarbonate so to better achieve a proper sodium/potassium balance.
The most basic formulas is a mix of an acid with a base in a glass of water.
The acid may come from Apple Acid Vinegar, Lemon juice, Lime juice.
The base comes from the sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda) and optionally, with the addition of potassium bicarbonate. I favour a formula containing both as opposed to just sodium bicarbonate.
The easiest is just the formula with ACV and sodium bicarbonate. But try one. If one gets relieve, then acidity is certainly the problem.
Now I would suggest for the long term a formula that is better because it provides for a whole spectrum of minerals, most notably calcium and magnesium. If you suffered from hyper-acidity for some times, it means that the body is taking the missing alkaline elements from reserves to counteract the acidity. On the long run, organs and bones will suffer. The new formula, which is somehow similar to EC youth formula http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/fountain_of_youth.html#FOYOUTH2, may provide the minerals to replenish the cumulated deficit of alkaline minerals.
You can find that formula and other protocols for alkalizing the body at the following:
They are the "moreless" protocols found in the "Ask Moreless: pH Balance, Alkaline/Acid Balance forum:
Whole list of protocols:
08/04/2008: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: I once had hyperacidity from something that was totally unexpected a decade earlier: aspartame. It was causing the neurological damage which lead to hyperacidity. It took more than about three weeks to reverse this condition to some extent, through the use of vitamin B complex, especially B1, B3, and B6, often in the form of B50 B complex taken for about more than 2 weeks. That was also followed by taking fairly large doses of baking soda such as 1/2 teaspoon four to eight times a day, plus some potassium bicarbonate. A more effective form I found later was the use of sodium citrate (trisodium citrate) and potassium citrate (tripotassium citrate) which had a better effect in alkalizing both the urinary and salivary pH. It takes about at least three weeks, but often longer to reversed this condition. However, one of the main causes of hyperaciditiy is the exposure to gasoline fumes, pollution, fungus, paint thinner, excitotoxins (in aspartame and other amino acids), also. Reducing processed food especially coke, where benzene is found in high amounts from the added sodium benzoate, but are also found in many frozen and processed foods are also a big problem. During hyperacidity, sugar is something I would avoid as well as many acid forming foods such as meats and switch the diet to 90% vegetarian diet. Olive oil may not help directly, but it is safer than vegetable oils since they are not subjected to oxidation during cooking and doesn't become toxic to the body because they have a higher boiling points than most other vegetable oils. In general, I would rather avoid consuming vegetable oils in general and take almost daily or twice daily fish oils. Fish oils, omega 3 type 2 reduce brain inflammation, which in turn reduces acidity of the body, but supplements which supports neural system may play a role in resolving hyperacidity such as vitamin B complex, and possibly selenium too. Still the basic remedy I have used is the baking soda, apple cider vinegar and baking soda, trisodium citrate, tripotassium citrate for example are the major remedies I would consider first, while avoiding acid forming foods and common toxins such as artificial sweeteners.
06/07/2008: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Baking powder cannot be used. Only baking soda can be used, a chemical name is sodium bicarbonate. The baking powder used different because it doesn't have sodium bicarbonate and they add other thing too. So I would read the labels that say "sodium bicarbonate".
The ACV and baking soda therefore is 2 tablespoon ACV plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water usually 2 or 3 times a day. This is the adult dose. So if a children, with 1/2 weight of 100 pounds, their dose will usually be 1/2 dose mentioned here. But if they are 1/3 of weight, then it's 1/3 of the dose.
06/12/2008: Tracy from Kitchener, Canada replies: I live in Canada, and have found aluminum free baking powder at the Super Store in the organic section. The brand name is "El Peto". It cost just over $3.00
02/18/2009: Roma from Austin, Texas replies: Please follow Ted's advice. Mix only Baking SODA (Sodium Bicarbonate) with ACV. After adding the Baking Soda to the ACV, the mix will foam up, then settle down. My family started taking 2 tablespoon ACV with 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda daily, one year ago. The benefits we've experienced have been many. Primarily we passed through flu season without a problem, it healed our digestive disorders and stopped all craving for junk food.
04/16/2009: Wilson from Calgary, Alberta, Canada replies: Baking powder consists of baking soda, cream of tartar and sodium aluminum sulfate plus cornstarch.
08/17/2009: Garry from Calgary, Canada replies: I had a powder on hand before i started avc. The mixture per half teaspoon is calcium carbonate 450mg, magnesium carbonate 250mg, and 90mg potassium bicarbonate. Would this be effective or do you insist on sodium bicarbonate?
04/06/2012: Ava from Brisbane, Australia replies: Hello, I have been taking the acv/bs for about 3 days, on the last dose I started feeling nauseous, then I started having diarrhea, like water and then vomited. I haven't taken the dose since then. I am wondering if this is just detox, could someone please tell me if this is normal for detoxing...thanks.
04/07/2012: Courtney from Granite Bay, Ca replies: You didn't say how much apple cider vinegar and baking soda you've been taking... Like how many tsp/tbsp's of each and how many times per day, but what you've described doesn't sound like detox to me. It sounds more like you over-did it... took too much ACV and/or BS or took the mixture too often.
04/07/2012: Cat from Papamoa, New Zealand replies: Ava - you say baking POWDER in your header but mention BS (baking SODA) in your paragraph? Which is it? You should be taking the baking soda with the ACV.
04/08/2012: Ava from Brisbane, Australia replies: Sorry everyone, yes baking soda... I must have clicked on a question on the site and the above was the subject heading, which my foggy mind didn't detect... Thanks for the replies... please re-reply now we have cleared that up... Sorry again...
04/08/2012: Ava from Brisbane, Australia replies: I approximate the dose Ted suggests and have it once a day, about 2 hours after eating and several hours before bed. I may have added too much baking soda on the last dose, so would that account for the diarrhea/vomiting...
I have a fatty liver and a gallstone polyp. I have passed a couple of stones previously, so don't know if I have any at the moment or not. I was getting a lot of gallbladder pain and liver heat previously which had settled down a bit before I had the acv/bs mix.
I was having liver pain and internal heat which seemed to radiate down my right side from my liver to my mid-thigh. I thought maybe the diarrhea and vomiting could be cleaning out my liver and gall bladder. Only a bit of liver twinges at present.
I also had a lot of very loud stomach/bowel gurgling and it sounded like bile was being released into the bowel and I could hear it making its way down my intestines... to its ultimate destination...lol...
I have been a heavy drinker and smoker and have switched to chocolate and coke, which I have a very large amount of. So obviously I would be very acidic and thought that all that diarrhea/vomiting was some sort of good clean out...hopefully.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Mary: Although most people won't experience the acidity that you are experiencing. The alkalizing effect can in some instances causes the body to release stored acid waste which doesn't happen that much, but more likely a rare allergic reaction to apple cider vinegar. Certain brands do happen, whenever some unscrupulous manufacturers add preservatives, or toxins were introduced in the manufacturing process.
In any case in that event, I will just keep it simple and try 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/8 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate (or potassium citrate) in 1/2 glass of water. I will also take some magnesium citrate 250 mg taken only 4 days out of a week. This will at least keep most of those electrolytes in balance. A maintenance dose of magnesium might then be taken for only once or twice a week. A potassium, once it is in place will be taken maybe twice a week or once a week. However, it takes about 2-3 weeks for the body to achieve equilibrium which whatever stored acid is in the body. And hence a simpler baking soda (and some potasium) plus the use of this as a mouthwash in the initial week or two should resolve nearly all of the problems from such use.
Potassium is responsible for controlling pH of saliva, so a dietary low in potassium might be responsible for the acid saliva, while the sodium for most of the extracellular fluids.
The other thing I have found helpful in more stable pH (mostly it's the thiamine B1, there are others), is the vitamin B complex, the B50 form where most of the vitamin Bs are 50 mg each. Those are taken, at least initially about 3 or 4 days in a row, then thereafter, once a week as a maintenance dose.
It is very difficult to cover every aspects of metabolic acidosis, but one area has to do with irregular breathing, ideally at 10 breaths per minute. So counting just only on the inhale side, comes to about 10 inhale/minute, or inhale every 6 seconds which also is exhale every 6 seconds. By doing this the body can quickly alkalize itself further.
One common denominator of metabolic acidosis, I have found was triggered with eating certain restaurant foods, white bread, white flour, bad car traffic (carbon monoxide), kerosine oil heating, defective hot water heater improperly burned (carbon monoxide), using too much paints (certain methanol are used as thinner), and other hydrocarbon poisoning. In some cases I thought it was apple cider vinegar and baking soda causing the problem, but further investigating I found to be common toxins that I have overlooked, such as sudden acidosis from just eating an overcooked barbeque beef, or something as innocuous as eating a loaf of raisin bread. The reason I know this is during one of my many experiments, I take notes into the acid reaction from eating common foods. The most dangerous one is that sometimes companies, or even certain restaurants inappropriately added aspartame which can cause the body to be acid for many weeks.
The antidote, that I have found from these poisons is sodium thiosulfate which neutralizes most of these poisons but still the vitamin B complex is needed to help the body recover too. The dose varies, but a nice conservative dose of sodium thiosulfate 10% solution is about 5-10 drops per glass of water. Of course in event of a poisoning from alloxan in the bread, and other toxins, I may need more such as one small crystals of sodium thiosulfate in a 1/2 glass of water. Initially it will have some laxative effect when the body detoxifies, but the nice thing about it is it improves the skin complexion the very next day as toxins are reduced and this is reflected in the skin condition.
The sodium thiosulfate can be obtained from an aquarium fish shop, clearly labeled, without food coloring, and it's concentration, while unlabeled are usually 5-20%. It smells like rotten egg. It is also sold in swimming pool suppliers and camera supply shops labeled as hypo. This is not to say I recommend anything, I usually buy them from a chemical suppliers usually USP grade, or B.P. grade sodium thiosulfate as being the most practical. While the others, I might use them for external purposes, such as in a bathtub to help detoxify.
An appropriate substitute if sodium thiosulfate can't be located anywhere or a close one is the soy milk which has sulfides which reduces toxins caused by metabolic acidosis. A 1/4 piece bar of baking chocolate, which is unsweetened, and 100% cocoa, can also have a positive aspect on pH too, but then I don't take it that often for the chocolate, I take it when I need them. It's the flavonoids antioxidant that help normalizes the problematic pH, from all the toxins introduced in our food and water, such as chlorinate and fluoridated water (yes it causes the body's pH to be acid), getting a cold virus (it inflames the gladular system that controls the blood sugar, hence an effect on pH). This is just a bird's eye view of what is going on.
Finally it helps to detoxify further with maybe some iodine drops (5 drops per 1/2 glass of water) used as a mouthwash for once or twice a week, and perhaps a maintenance once a week at least so that the iodine will detoxify and I have seen to further help normalize problematic pH.
These I have mentioned is advance pH control, if I should blood sugar problem or a victim of chemical toxins found in food. Aspartame is the most dangerous of them all in both blood sugar and metabolic acidosis. Painters as an occupation have short lives because of methanol alcohol, which works similarly with aspartame, as well as paint thinners that gets absorbed in the skin and can lead a lifelong metabolic acidosis with all the sickness of CFS, yeast infection, fungus growth, whenever they are uncontrollable. Hope this helps!"
MARY FOLLOWS UP:
1/16/2008: Mary from Los Angeles, CA "Just wanted to say that once I took the apple cider vinegar out and took the baking soda alone as Ted suggested, the pains and burning in my face and mouth area stopped. I guess I was having a negative (allergic?) reaction to the ACV. Thanks to Ted. I also need to get the rest of the supplements and the potassium citrate to add to the baking soda and I will let everyone know how it goes. My pH has not stabilized yet, but it hasn't gone to the 5.0 range (where my pH was before starting baking soda). I've also started to drink soy milk and grinding my vitamins and I can't say for sure yet, but my hair loss does seem to be under control.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: This was done in the past, until someone took too much baking soda and I realized that the pH was near 8 using this method. The reason is simple: the baking soda's pH is about 8 and adding baking soda will reach this equilibrium, not the 7.
The problems is that the bubbles will continually form as you add more and more baking soda beyond the pH of 7 up to near 8 pH. Because of this problem I decided to make a 2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar with 1/4 teaspoon baking soda standard, where pH is around 7, if not that well reacted, but in a more serious case of acid reflux a remedy can be modified to 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, in 1/2 glass of water, since more alkalinity was needed, but its pH were about 7. However, it is best to used a tablespoon and teaspoon measure, whenever or for those who simply don't have a pocket pH meter handy, which in most cases do not.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: I can remove it because of my diabetes, am I right?
Yes, honey can be removed.
1) Can I prepare a large quantity of the mix, like a gallon but using your proportion so that I can have a ready drink everyday. Of course, I will refrigerate the gallon of mix.
Make it enough just for ONE DAY, and store in refrigerator in tightly closed container. Do not use it the next day as it may spoil. A gallon mix may be way too large. One liter would be enough for a day to day mix.
2) I have medications for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes. Do you think it is OK to drink the ACV? This is very important for me to know.
Most important is that the ACV is NEUTRALIZE with baking soda until the pH is between 7 to 7.5. The mix is usually 2 tablespoon plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
In case of high cholesterol I have found it most important to NOT USE any vegetable oils during cooking EXCEPT coconut oil. Coconut oil will reduce absorption of free radical vegetable oils and reduce the bad LDL choleterol. One tablespoon a day of granulated lecithin would also normalize some level of diabetes problem too. Vitamin B complex is also helpful, using B50 taken once a week.
'If high blood pressure is a problem I prefer a 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar plus 1/2 teaspoon of bakng soda plus 1/8 teaspoon of potassium citrate (or potassium bicarbonate) in 1/2 glass of water (at least).
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Most of the problems I received were from the acid portion of the apple cider vinegar. If I just take sea salt with baking soda, or just baking soda, the cough should not occur, if the pH were always 7 or above. In some rare cases certain brands of apple cider vinegar are quite acid.
In your case you weren't following the instructions, at least mine anyway. The remedy calls for 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in at least 1/2 glass of water. A remedy you were doing the pH is about 5 which is very acid. The 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda is relatively neutral, but not for 1/8 when it meets up with the acid portion of the apple cider vinegar. The acid is what bacteria and viruses grows under, its generally an ideal medium for them, at least in culture dishes I prepare when I was a student of microbiology.
Therefore, I would either change to the 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water or just 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 2 tablespoon Apple Cider vinegar in 1/2 glass of water (at least) as per instruction. In case someone might be wondering what is the remedy for cough, the best single remedy for coughs is peppermint oil, 4 drops and keep in the mouth for half a minute before the swallow. Breathe in from mouth and exhale would clear up the sinuses too. Viral sinuses have a habit of going to the throat to cause it. The coughs stops it instantly and works better than any cough syrup I have tried. The secret is that there is NO SUGAR in a home remedy.
If any cough syrup manufacturing is listening to me (most don't) add the xylitol. It works a lot better, if you want them sweet and never forget the menthol or peppermint oil. Camphor is strongly anti-inflammatory for throat disease even in tiny amounts. Although a home remedy can't go that far, it is too complicated for most people. How peppermint works is that the viruses are neutralized in presence of menthol content and are thus inactivated. It also helps if the body is stronger too, with some once a week vitamin B50 and vitamin E. When the body is trong, the immune system is good.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Jaques: Many people have very high acidity stored inside the cells. Whenever baking soda is taken, the acid from the inside the cells get out, causing that problem. The original remedy I posted is for a very mild condition, not the industrial sized hiatal hernia, which requires more effective remedy.
The most effective remedy is 1/4 teaspoon of sodium citrate plus 1/4 teaspoon of potassium citrate taken about three times a day in 1/2 glass of water. The acid tongue should not be noted. The other reason why the acid tongue exists was because ACV was added. If it was removed, the condition of acid tongue would be reduced.
However, if sodium citrate and potassium citrate cannot be found, another rmedy might be close (albeit less effective but definitely better than ACV and baking soda), which is 2 tablespoon of lime juice, plus 1/2 baking soda in 1/2 glass of water. It should be noted that the best way to find whether it works was whether the urinary pH (using the electronic pocket pH meter) is going to near 7 after taking the baking soda remedy in 1 hour or so.
My remedy were rather mild to avoid side effects mostly from assumed minor ailments rather than major ones like hiatal hernia. Finally certain bacteria and other microbes that lead to hiatal hernia, may be further destroyed with 500 mg of magnesium citrate a day, for 5 days out of a week. I cannot guarantee that complete healing is possible, but at least getting rid of certain microbes that is eating away into the body, if it is killed, won't progress further. However, if certain organism is fungal related, a borax remedy might work, such as 1/8 teaspoon of borax in one liter of drinking water, taken everyday for only 4 days out of a week may notice improvement. My experience however seems to be more of the magnesium end than the boron end (boron is found in borax). It should be noted that many minerals such as zinc, magnesium, boron, and silver (colloidal silver, tetra silver) are all good antibiotics, including alkalization, and sea salt (sodium chloride). The problem I found is the proper use of them and its availability of them that is a common problem.
06/11/2008: David from Hoosick Falls, NY replies: Regarding Ted's Lime Juice recipe, it says 2 tablespoons Lime juice and half baking soda. Is that half a teaspoon or half a tablespoon? By the way a chiropracte was able to push my stomach back down. Many remedies helped but the chiropracter was the "fix".
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: I have been taking soda for about 35 years now. So if anyone with a severe bone problem, it has got to be me.
The issue is that this news is not true. Basically an osteporosis or osteoarthritis are due to a mycobacterium which exists in an acidic state bound to the bones calcium. If the body is sufficiently alkaline, the bone pain reduces. The baking soda does not reduce the calcium. Baking soda is a bicarbonate which buffers the body against pH fluctuation so the body can protect itself against the mycobacterium. The major weakness of the mycobacterium IS the bicarbonates. In fact if the body is sufficiently alkaline, it will not cause the acidic blood to eat the bone. One easy example to illustrate is if you put chicken bones in a vinegar (acidic) for about a month, or even an egg shell, the acid vinegar will REMOVE THE CALCIUM from the chicken bone. A long term acid state of the body is much like a chicken bone in a vinegar. The calcium is removed BY ACIDITY, not by alkalization. Thus the alkalization will reduce any leeching effect of the blood in removing the calcium from your bones, very much like acid rain that eats through Greek statues. The fact is, alkalization protects against calcium from leeching from the bones because it is the acid that eats through the calcium.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Ramila, I have been taking soda for about 35 years now. So if anyone with a severe bone problem, it has got to be me.

[Ted continues in a second letter:]
It should be noted other remedies that is very useful against this conditions are vitamin D3, vitamin K2, magnesium citrate 250 mg/month and an ocassional borax remedy. Vitamin D is synthesized by adults or even someone who is 60 years old, has only 1/6 of a children. Vitamin K and vitamin K2 (commonly found in Natto japanese soy fermented products) are also helpful against it because of its anti mycobacterium properties that causes the condition as well as being synergistic with the vitamin D. Mangesium is a important because for the body to properly utilize the calcium, it needs two magnesium molecules. However, magnesium also have a unique, and not yet well known properties against mycobacterium that exists in the bone, and kill them too, thus reducing the condition. Certain staph like bacteria that exists in the ligaments of the joint, eats through this and taking plenty of magnesium will also kill those bacterium that eats through the ligament. Borax is one other remedy I cannot do without. Anytime I don't take it for months, I get a bone problem, especially my knee. The borax remedy I used is 1/4 teaspoon per liter of drinking water, possibly taking up to 5 days a week if it is serious, but a relatively bening dose of once a week is sufficient. Women seems to need less, than 1/4, and 1/8 is the common remedy that I used, although not taken everyday. Borax is one of the most common remedy (along with baking soda and magnesium, but never denying vitamin D) against ostearthritis, and other similar bone condition. It should be noted that the basic remedy to this condition I have always consider baking soda to be the most important, that the condition won't work itself out, if this is not used.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Amy: Usually the best times to take it is 30 minutes or more before meals in the morning. Another time before sleep is it taken after meals 30 minutes or more. Generally the remedy is for baking soda, or baking soda plus apple cider vineger.
However, if ACV is taken alone, it can be taken during meals. ACV taken alone is somewhat contraindicated for people with acid reflux, GERD, and acid indigestion, at the very least. Of course, the ACV can dilute the acidic effects, such as 2 tablespoon per one glass of water.
If a person with a worse case acid reflux, ACV taken alone without baking soda would invariably lead to an acid reflux problems, regardless of whether they take it before, during or after. And hence baking soda is added to prevent the related acid problems, as its pH is very close to the body's own natural pH.
For some reason if the food is sour, usually it is the citric acid, but might possibly apply to just ACV, the digestion process slows down, usually it is for the stomach.
Hence, if the solution is alkalized and diluted with sufficient amount of water, it passes through the stomach and goes through the system faster, without the acid indigestion.
The reason why it is taken at those times is it causes the least problems, namely the laxative effect. If for example baking soda are taken along with food, the laxative effect would be noticeable more so than at other times.
Still, there is some possible exception, if plenty of water was taken during the course of the meals. The acid/base effect and concentration would be so minimized as to minimized the problems.
The problem still exists as to how much water is to be taken. Certain cultures, such as some Italians take baking soda after meal, so to help with digestion. Of course, I have seen people reporting laxative effects at those times, so maybe they were taken after meals, to perhaps reduce the indigestion problems, or bulging of the stomach, at a small risks of laxative effect.
The original remedy actually calls for three times a day, but most people prefer twice a day, so this became a minimum intake. The three times a day were supposed to be once in the morning, once in the later afternoon (about 2-5 p.m.) and another one before sleep. Most people are working at the later afternoon, but this is the times they are also most sleepy or that they are too busy.
The reason why that specific times were done especially 2-5 p.m, was in certain autistics in school, they have real problems during those time period that the body is most toxic. Taking during those time would invariable lead them to be more calm, better concentration, less tantrums, etc. The other reason is workers who exert a lot of physical exertion where the body's acidity increase and oxygen level needs increase just about between 3-6 p.m. Hence, the baking soda would neutralize the acidity from lactic acid, which would reduce some muscle pains, alkalizing will also increase the oxygen to the needed body.
I had one case of a person who took at a between 10-12 p.m. which he reported to have headaches. Upon changing to the original time in the morning, the problem disappeared.
You might ask why before sleep and why in the morning. Most people die in their sleep which occured between 2- 4 a.m. in the morning. It is those times where the body is also the most acid. Hence, if taken before sleep it would give some electrolytes for the body to recover during sleep. As to why in the morning is that before a person begins works the body's demand for oxygen rises and acidity also increase, so the alkalizing is taken as a preemptive move for physical exertion and other problems that goes along with working in office hours, such as 9 a.m. to 5 a.m.
The problem appears to be that if the person is PROPERLY RESTED and does not work, or is a housewife, who do not do too much chores in the morning hour. Taking the alkalizing remedy during the morning hours in this case would not help and taking later in a day just before physical exertion is needed.
I could not possibly cover ever possible scenario, but in general keeping a pH in the region of 7 helps the body recover faster. A short term alertness and awakefulness is possible if the body is acidic, but the engine would be overheated and breakdown. However the opposite occurs in case of ADHD, hyperactivity, where alkalizing is important foundation. While hypoactivity, the opposite is needed. Most people are high stressed and hence alkalizing is important, while some who lacks stress, which is rare these days the opposite is desireable, in the short-term only.
When is the best time to take acv & water and acv, baking soda & water?
Therefore the best times is in the morning 30 minutes or more before eating, and before sleeping 30 miutes or more after eating. It is taken on two times a day. If apple cider vinegar alone is taken the minimum water on two tablespoon is one full glass of water to dilute the effects of acid. But if the apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoon and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, it is taken at least 1/2 glass of water, but 1 glass is more ideal. The reason for the minimum is some people cannot drink too much water and can have problems. Hence the remedy best choice to to pursue the minimum, finding the optimum dose therefore becomes a individual's decision to find it himself because of differences in weight, sex, height, and age.
It should be noted that honey is added to reduce the smell of ACV, which some find it repulsive. Sometimes I take a more purified form such as malic acid, citric acid, baking soda, and perhaps sodium acetate, to avoid the smell of ACV. There is another way around it, which is 2 tablespoon of lime juice (or lemon) plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water, at least. More sensitive people will prefer a 1 glass of water, but taken slowly of course. Whether it is ACV, ACV baking soda, baking soda, or lime (lemon) and baking soda, it is still taken at least two times a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime still.
This rule might have some exceptions as some issues was raised here. One issue of alkalizing that must be considered and this issue is raised many time: the body can further alkalize itself if certain acid diets are avoided, namely cola, sugar, white bread, cheese, for example. The one final that has got people surprised on alkalizing is deep breathing which is very important. Getting enough sleep is can also raise the pH quite well also. However this assumes that all good habits were already exercised.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: There is one way around people who have sodiumproblem, and another remedy still which should haveminimum problems:
2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon ofbaking soda plus 1/8 teaspoon of potassium citrate in1/2 glass of water, at least (or 1 glass of water). The addition of potassium will have a stronger portionin lowering blood pressure. This is taken twice a dayon an empty stomach. Another remedy may be more idealas lemon has potassium such as 2 tablespoon of lemonjuice plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass ofwater at least (1 is more ideal), taken twice a day.The content of the potassium in lemon juice and sodiumshould be within a general biological parameters thatis acceptable to the body without negatively affectingthe body and may help reduce some tightness.
The cholesterol and high blood pressure should betaken care of to some extent with one tablespoon ofgranulated lecithin with a meal. This should helpemulsify the fat and remove the cholesterol. Usuallymost of the cholesterol comes from clams and oysters, however it can also come from fried foods. In generalthe body simply can't metabolize the cholesterols intohormone and steroids. A vitamin B complex takengenerally every other day may help somewhat inreducing the cholesterol issue by metabolizin intouseful hormones that may help some blood pressure. However the one that has most benefit appears to bethe B1 thiamine and B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacinamide)B5 (panthenol), and B8 (inositol). The B1 thiamine andB3 niacinamide is most helpful in sugar problems and if sugar are controlled, a blood pressure is somewhatunder control. Heavy foods should be avoided duringdinner almost completely, especially worse is frenchfries, potato chips, balogna, salami, cheeze andpizza. Tuna fish, tuna sandwiches using whole wheatmay help the body have enough proteins needed to burnthe fat somewhat and rebuild damage cells. Taurineamino acids in fishes are also helpful for weightloss.
09/29/2007: Anonymous replies: Hi Ted Thanks for your email. I am sorry but I have further questions, which I do hope you would do me the favour of answering:
1) Can orange juice be had instead of lemon for potassium and also as she is taking other prescription medication like pressure first thing in the morning, how long before/after can the ACV be taken.
2) Does baking soda adversely affect the bones etc.
3) Regarding myself I took the 2 tablespoons ACV and mixed with 1/4 teaspoon baking soda and a glass of water twice a day, but found that I was feeling a weak/tired and my pressure is normally low. Also I rubbed some ACV neat on the rash on my face and it got worse. Although I read that ACV is an overall tonic, but am a bit cautious of taking it. What is the minimum amount one can have just for a supplement?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to reply"
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Anonymous:
1. Lemon is better than orange due to its highervitamin C content, and higher citric acid, which is desireable.
2. Baking soda is actually good for the bones, pleasesee research abstract posted below this emal. The problem is the halogens, chlorides, bromines, fluorines, which cause high blood pressure.
3. The apple cider vinegar and baking soda reducesblood pressure. That's why. To normalize bloodpressure, some sea salt can be added such as 1/16teaspoon, and reduce the apple cider vinegar by 1/2 oruse only the baking soda. A newer remedy that has lesseffect on changes in blood pressure is just 1/4teaspoon of baking soda alone in 1/2 glass of water. I have a friend who has blood pressure something like90/60, which is quite low. The problem came from apersistently septicemia, which at the time I did notknow were from her cavities (she didn't tell me) but Irecognized it and killed the septicemia with a simpleaspirin and that raise blood pressure. Her septicemiawas characterized with high body temperature, someheadaches and dizziness. At other times of low bloodpressure, the 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt dissolved inone glass of water helped normalized the bloodpressure too. Of course raising blood pressure theeasy way is to use a common table salt, but myunwillingness came from the aluminum additives theyused here, but it does the job. A sea salt I think isa better one, while it won't exactly raise the blood pressure, it does normalize them.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Yes it becomes an ascorbate. If it flares up, not enough baking soda was added to make a pH of the solution about 7.5. It should taste like water, or slightly bitter in taste, not sour. Some Vitamin E and should help.
If nothing works I might try some zinc 50 mg and 250
mg bht supplements.
I woke up in the morning with my head spinning, the room was spinning and I was very dizzy, I had shortness of breath and I was very scared. My BP was very high. My husband came home and rushed me to the doctor. He was very upset that I stopped the meds and said I was lucky I didn't have a stroke. He said I had a rebound reaction and my BP was very high, with racing heart. I am back on the meds and wondering what happened. The doctor said NEVER take baking soda when you have high pressure! The lemon or ACV does not balance the sodium with potassium. I love natural cures, so now I will have to try to find another way to not have an acid PH. The doc says I will always have to take BP meds the rest of my life( I'm 55) Does any body out there know what happened? I still feel a little dizzy today, and am discouraged. I don't want anyone else to go through what I just did.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: If the person is already taking high blood pressure medicine, than it is not likely the remedy will work. If the people suddenly stop a strong withdrawal reaction will be experienced. The body has gotten used to it and becomes dependent on the doctor's med, much like an addiction to it. Some people have reduced blood pressure medicine taking it, but not stopping them completely. A potassium in this instance maybe needed such as 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of potassium. Dietary changes are in order by avoiding dinner, oily foods, white bread, cheese and sweets. The addition of one tablespoon of granulated lecithin in this instance a day maybe helpful in reducing fatty buildup in the liver.
While I don't take doctor's med for blood pressure to begin with because I was aware of a strong withdrawal effects from quitting then it will suit me just fine. The remedy that was used is for people who are not on doctors med since once withdrawn from the meds, the body becomes very strongly dependent on the high blood pressure.
It should be noted that the condition described the body's dependency on doctor's med and a strong withdrawal reaction, much like quitting for stopping heroine addiction, but with differences in the kinds of withdrawal symptons should be noted.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Whenever ACV and baking soda is mixed, it should be used at once, otherwise, it will spoil, as the pH of the solution is within biologically active parameters of 7.0 - 7.5 pH. The longest it can store is only one day and that's when it is refrigerated in a closed container. I won't keep this solution longer than a day. Most people tend not to like the smell of ACV and will add other things. The problem about that is, the sugar in honey may not be advantageous. I would prefer to add orange oil or other flavorings such as lemon oil, clove oil, etc. One small exceptions in adding honey is that not too much can be added, only a small amount and the honey sugar content should not exceed 5% maximum, but this means drinking at least 1/2 glass of water should reduce the content so the blood sugar is not affected, assuming of course that ACV is used at 2 tablespoons plus 1/4 teaspoon baking soda in 1/2 glass. If honey is added, then the water should be added to full glass, for example.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Baking soda sold in supermarkets used for baking is used in food. If it is contaminated, then it unlikely it can be sold in foodstores.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Using ACV with honey initially will bring some relief, but the condition won't cure whatever ailments in thelong run as it won't resolve the underlying conditionsor normalize the body's biochemical disordersespecially the pH which still perpetuates acidosispromoting growth of candida, GERD, IBS, and hiatalhernia.
These are all of microbial origins and tend toflourish in our intestinal tract, stomach andesophagal tracts too. A long term problem can alsolead to IBS, resulting in leaky gut syndrome.
In additional to dietary imbalances such as lack ofzinc and magnesium, which neutralizes certainmicrobes, can ultimately end up with ulcerativecolitis.
The remedy and the cures are simple enough. All youneed to remember is the analogy where microbes is toplant, and your body's fluids is to fertilizers andsoil.
Your body's fluids pH (acid), nutrition (sugar andfats) provides the essentials environment necessaryfor microbial growth. Microbes need extremely highenergy foods, such as sugar and fats. In order toefficiently break down fats to energy or sugar, microbes need a good acid environment to help digestYOU. LOL. Basically you are dancing with the devil.Doing this, Farmer Brown is basically growing bacteriaand fungus while killing off healthy cells. Healthycells live more in an environment of higheralkalinity, lower sugars and lower fats. It should benoted that free radical heavy metals are also neededto decompose foods which can in turn be toxic tohealthy cells too.
Our present social circumstances, at least todayseems to downplay the importance of microbiology asbeing a dead science and antibiotics rules, whilebiochemistry is too esoteric, but those two fieldswere actually the knowledge that was needed to resolvea lot of diseases, including hereditary factors.
Q: is it possible to be acidic and not have enoughacid to digest your food?
Yes. Assuming the body does not have enough dietarybicarbonates to neutralize the digested acid foodsfrom the stomach, then the digested acid food justburns or digest the intestinal tract causing damage, and promoting bacteria to enter the bloodstream, bringing on septicemia or blood poisoning (which Ifound aspirin plus baking soda to be useful here incertain cases as the aspirin when diluted in a glassof water and taken internally digests viral andbacteria too). A weaker form of a slight damage tointestinal tract won't result in septicemia or leakygut syndrome, but can bring on IBS, and in some casesparanoia when combined with B deficiency and acidosisjust the same.
On the opposite of the argument is if the body isalready lacking in bicarbonates anyway and theintestines have insufficient bicarbonates toneutralize the digested food, the body signals thestomach to digest the food slowly or produce LESS acidto prevent damage to the intestines. I should beremembered that the body is quite well coordinated bythe brain and other signals necessary for organs towork in synergy. The analogy is the same as theOlympic gymnasts, but also it is how all organs arealso coordinated just the same. When the stomachproduces less acid to protect the intestinal damage, the food gets digested slowly and fermentation of thestomach results in GERD. Bacteria grows as a result oflow stomach acid, but low stomach acid is not theCAUSE. One simple principle is actually used inmedicine to get your GERD worse necessary to provethat there is GERD, which is basically a sweet fruitdrinks. The fruit drinks is low in pH, making it acid, and fructose are easier to digest FOR THE BACTERIAthan sucrose, being a simpler sugar, while glucose iseasiest of all for any microbes to flourish. The mereact of drinking acid foods will CAUSE the stomach dodigest slowly and BRING ON fermentation. Apparentlythe acidity of the foods signals the stomach to digestthe food more slower than alkaline foods. This isbasically how the stomach works. And it is this veryreason why milk of magnesia, or baking soda, which isan alkaline, causes a laxative effect and reducesconstipation. The longer the wastes stays, theconstipation initiates fermentation and bacterialbuildup.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Keith: If insomnia is a problem from using ACV and baking soda, which doesn't happen often, might be helped with vitamin B complex and magnesium citrate (or gluconate) supplements. If it doesn't get any better, I might take a very low dose lithium citrate of 5 mg before bedtime, the dose is quite low, but it is also a necessary nutrients at least for the brain to rest. Other remedies that I have tried that works well is 3-6 drops of 10% sodium thiosulfate solution in 1/2 glass or 1 glass of water. Usually taking first time of these may have laxative effect, but it does a good job in detoxification and helps with rest and sleep as well. Sometimes sleeplessness can be initiated by the amino acid imbalance (where some amino acids also controls sleep) and taking supplements with some tryptophan or general amino acid supplements may also help too.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Any combination of rest period would be just fine. The point is the body needs a certain rest period anywhere between 2-3 days per week which can be scheduled on any days.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: When taking initially, the body is not really tired, but it wants a rest or plenty of sleep for the body to repair itself when it is taken for at least the first week or so.
If the body is REALLY tired as opposed to the desire for the body to recover itself, it would indicate another remedy where the liver is badly need for detoxification and amino acid levels in the body is low. In that case, the ACV and baking soda in the morning, I would change them to:
3-6 drops of H2O2 3% in 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1 glass of water, in the morning only. The hydrogen peroxide should increase the oxygen, detox the liver and increase the energy during the morning hours.
Magnesium supplements should restore the other missing electrolytes, so that could be the other missing link, beside the amino acid supplements.
Natural vitamin E I might take it once a day should generally help and should also restore the tiredness in case the B complex doesn't work as well, but then on the other hand the Bs are not taken that frequently either.
The other liver detoxification is the excess fatty buildup of the liver where 1 tablespoon of granulated lecithin should help. Tiredness I have found is sometimes due to liver not being able to send nutrient supplies to the body as well as it should due to oily and fatty foods, or the fact that the liver is too much obstructed. Therefore a fish, tuna, sardines, soy protein, or some whey protein if taken during the morning hours, such as tuna solad for example is eaten might increase some energy by giving the needed energy. While it is true sugar increase short term energy burst, in the long run it taxes the entire body of energy as sugar blocks amino acid uptake by the liver, causing the body to tire easily due to reduce nutrients that liver can no longer supply to the demands of the body. So the issue doesn't directly appear to be ONLY acv and baking soda, but appears to be other factors coming into play in addition to.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: My experience is that some constipation already existed before this remedy was done and taking them further didn't resulted in reduction as the body's need to alkalize rises tremendously if there was a beginning of constipation. The reason why I know is that I checked the urinary pH all the time and if I am constipated, such remedy of apple cider vinegar and baking soda is too weak.
Therefore in such an event, getting a laxative would be ideal so that a constipated body would reduce the body's excessive need to alkalize. In such as event, I might take some laxatives such as milk of magnesia (WITHOUT the aluminum!) or epsom salt and follow the directions according to the package sold in most over the counter drug stores. Thereafter, I can continue the apple cider vinegar plus 1/4 teaspoon baking soda.
However, the remedy you used, instructions may not be followed since a lemon juice REQUIRES 8 teaspoon of lemon juice or lime juice plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day. A lemon juice CAN'T be added directly to the apple cider vinegar remedy since that will cause a bad imbalance of the pH outcome to be more acid where the beginning solution is too acid or less than pH of 6. In a body without sufficient bicarbonate levels anyway, that might remotely cause the body to be acid due to insufficient bicarbonates to neutralize the solution. Generally it is alkaline forming but in some cases they do cause to be acid forming resulting in a more likely scenario of a water retention or a chloride retention, more so than the well known sodium retention. As a result, the urine pH becomes acid. If anyone does the experiment of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) the urine does become more acid, while the sodium ascorbate the opposite occurs. In your incidence, the vitamin C from the lemon is actually the ascorbic acid. Therefore adding the lemon resulted in excess ascorbic as opposed to ascorbate.
To resolve I would try a simpler 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda WITHOUT either the apple cider vinegar or the lemon. That of course, if followed carefully should be taken in the morning and before bedtime. Most negative feedback I have received were not following instructions such as taken late in the day, between meals, or adding lemon to the ACV without sufficient baking soda to neutralize it. The pH of the solution should be between pH 7 - 7.5, but if a lemon was added, my guess is the solution were closer to 5, which may defeat its purpose, since the body's blood pH is closer to 7.35 and the solution therefore should be at least in equilibrium with the blood so the body doesn't have to fight unnecessary to attain its own equilibrium.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Lactic acidosis is a common problem and calcium deposits can form in areas where lactic acidosis forms due to kayak paddling. However there are to issues, one is the mycobacterium, the other is the staphyloccus that I am aware of that cause "bumps". Now what I did noticed is that if magnesium citrate 25--500 mg (or magnesium bicarbonate, which is basically 1 tablespoon of magnesium carbonate slowly added and closed bottle in soda water) will usually kill the staphyloccus and weaken the mycobacterium. However, potassium iodide solution added 1- 4 drops per liter of water, which is quite small, will discourage such growth of bone bumps, through support of the immune system by dissolving the plaques and bacterium which suppresses them can also be reduced. It takes about a week of magnesium supplements 250-500 mg to generally improve the mobility of the arms, and another two weeks or three to reduce some of those bumps. However, in this case I don't like to apply external use of apple cider vinegar, but basically getting and alkaline blood will kill or discourage their growth. Alkalizing often requires a alternate switch in routine between apple cider vinegar and baking soda, which is 2 tablespoon and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda 2 times a day in 1/2 glass of water at least, and on another day 8 teaspoon of lime juice plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/2 glass of water also taken at least twice a day. These alkalizing formulas, especially the lemon will reduce the calcium buildup fairly well, but it is synergistic with the magnesium and iodine issues in ridding off the bacteria which causes the bumps.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Alicia: Yes the medicine that you use may lead to acid reflux, it has a tendency to do that as they are often acid forming. A small child may be mostly helped with just 1/32 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/4 drinking water as being the simplest remedy their is. It is about 1/8th of a human dose based on approximate per weight basis. So if the 2 tablespoon is given to a small child 2/8 = 1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar plus 1/32 (1/4/8) teaspoon of baking soda. We are assuming of course the child is 1/8 the weight of the normal adult of small size.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Daryl: If you add water about 1/2 glass of water the solution would be diluted enough not to effect the teeth. I had some reports of a person who did not add water and had problems with teeth sensitivity of acid reflux flare up. The problems disappeared after diluting the solution in some water. The minimum is 1/2 glass of water.
There appears to be no much limits as to how much apple cider vinegar be taken provided that sufficient amount of baking soda is added. The limits to how much you can take invariably is determined by whether the bowels go into a diarrhea should too much be taken. For some who take apple cider vinegar straight, that may lead to worsening acid reflux, if they do have a bad one. The middle of the line is take as much as you want as long as the urinary pH is within the pH of 7. is o.k, or at least 6.6-7.0, but ideally it is 7. Taking too much where urinary pH exceeds 7.5 is not recommended, it usually leads to a sure watery stool. That is the maximum limit. It is not the dose, it is how the body reacts to that dose, using the urinary pH as a gauge. If you want to be precise, then get a cheap pocket pH meter to do that. I used them all the time to gauge my health, especially when I am sick.
One possible exception where that is desireable is constipation, and a terrible flu, where the body invariably needs 2-4 times the normal dose whenever a cold strikes the body, and reaching a urinary pH during that period of 7.0, at the very least is not easy.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: 1. Abdominal pain if added with baking soda often means that the body is too acid, baking soda is contaminated, or the stomach is too empty and you feel too hungry, so the stomach acts up. The other is the body's lack of magnesium. Electronic pocket pH meter can answer some of those questions. I had one person with your condition and found to be severely acid, where urinary pH were between 4-5, as a result the body reacts STRONGLY with the baking soda. The way to prevent it and get within normal range is to lower the dose by 1/2 or 1/8 and slowly increase it until a normal range is reached. Most people who are in this region often are overworked and the body becomes extremely acid and that urinary pH is reflected, and the body becomes "burned out", which are actually a good expression.
2. In general, there is no way most people can tell which minerals are alkalizing. The only way scientists know for sure is to take it, and THEN measure the urinary pH, one by one. There are clues, of course such as minerals on the left hand side of the periodic tables, but then you must be finesse with making an electrolyte solution, more so than a mineral supplements. An electrolyte solution that is biologically compatible is the Ringer's Mammalian solution, but this would be too complicated in practice. Therefore, a simpler one is ACV baking soda, or lime juice (or lemon) plus baking soda. The best electrolyte solution without the headaches and the least problem is actually a good quality sea salt, added at about 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in 1 liter of drinking water. The pH of sea salt is in generally averages close to the blood pH.
3. Apple cider vinegar has both the acetate (when reacted with baking soda) and malate. The reason why it smells bad is the acetate. Acetates gets rid of intracellular lactic acidosis, while malate give you the energy. Citrates are a bit low in ACV, which is why you sometimes may alternate with whatever you are doing (dimalate) with ACV, and lemon formula.
4. Long-term ACV cannot be answered since this depends on your body's biochemistry. For most people whose urinary pH is within normal range in general and taking that still stayed the same, would be generally ok. However, I had seen one who did take ACV and caused acid tongue, as his body was deficient of bicarbonates. The acid tongue condition was so bad it was burning his tongues apart, literally. Upon taking only baking soda for two weeks and a mouthwash, he became normal, and thereafter he took the ACV baking soda.
5. Pine bark extract at least for me is often used when there is the need for it. I don't usually take supplements in general if I feel my body doesn't need it. Monitoring that is not easy, but this is the only way to do it. Certain minerals have a tendency to accumulate in your body, while certain ones do not, as to why each are like these, means we have to know whether the body is already overloaded with toxic heavy metals, which can often prevent good minerals from getting into the body. For example, constant mercury contamination from drinking water (or vegetables) may displace selenium and taking selenium will never result in the body's increase in selenium, but does displace and reduce the body's mercury.
Jade replies: Ted, 1.lower the dose by 1/2 or 1/8 and slowly increase it until a normal range is reached. Did you mean ACV or Baking Soda that I need to cut down here?
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: You reduce the baking soda to about 1/8 teaspoon. The apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons stays the same. Make sure to add water of 1 full glass if 1/2 glass resulted in upset stomach. In practice, certain people with extreme acidosis, need initially less baking soda, with gradual increase until the body is used to it. Electrolyte imbalance is also implicated, so magnesium and potassium supplements are also recommended in instance of abdominal pain also.
Also, I am still taking my omeprazale, is it not counter-productive to be taking that, and the ACV? Am I messing up the needed acid in my body for my bowels to function properly?? Please respond...I've refered your website to MANY others, and now I'm afraid to tell them about my problem. -Julie
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Low acid coffee should be avoided. Usually diarrhea is due to the body or that the meals of foods immediately or within 30 minutes after taking ACV baking soda. It should exceed one hour. Certain quality of ACV may be the cause o fhe problem so switching brands may help.
The best way to deal with this problem is to try just 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water x 2 times a day. It is the baking soda that can help most of the acid reflux anyway. Apple cider was added to help energy levels and immune issues while buffering is also helpful too.
EC: We just received another report of someone also getting "D" in the morning after taking the combo. (See 5/16/2007 entry on the ACV & Baking soda cures page.)
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: It is a well known fact that whey protein even if taken alone can bring on diarrhea, bloating, etc. However, even if they don't, they also run into conflict with the ACV and baking soda. I don't recommend whey protein for people with acid reflux because of its tendency to cause a watery stool. There may be problems whenever people eat a high salt diet that does not go together well with the ACV and baking soda also. The reason is simple, my personal remedy for a diarrhea is to add sea salt and baking soda. Another experimental remedy I am doing for diarrhea is whey protein and baking soda. It must be remembered that whey protein is NOT a remedy for acid reflux and may not help. However, the worse diarrhea problems I found for some people is to mix milk and whey protein. Apparently you also got unlucky by also adding low acid coffee which also also cause a diarrhea in many people I know. Basically apple cider vinegar and baking soda alone doesn't cause diarrhea, but do not take whey protein and low acid coffee. They tend to cause a diarrhea, especially for the people with lactose intolerance. Not mentioned in your problems that you need to be careful are milk, epsom salt, and gluten rich foods that may cause other problems too. One additional info is the most common problems I had with ACV and baking soda is to take it along with food. Those can result in diarrhea. This is why the remedies call for taking it twice a day in the morning and before bedtime, just to make sure you take it on an empty stomach. However, do have people who mix the remedies along with the other foods, such as sea salt remedies, add some milk and other things to my remedy that caused diarrhea. Therefore, make sure you don't mix them with other remedies, unless I have posted that to be o.k., also you should take this on an empty stomach by at least more than 1 hour after or before eating, just to make sure it IS empty!
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: In practice most brands that I am aware of Apple cider vinegar is quite good. The healing effects came mostly from the acetates and malates after the baking soda neutralize the acid components to get that.
EC: A couple of years ago, a woman wrote in to Earth Clinic that Heinz recently changed their formula and that their ACV is now "flavored" apple vinegar (i.e., not the real stuff). So read the label carefully and write the manufacturer for more information!
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The usual dose is 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, any brand is o.k., and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water taken on an empty stomach, taken twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening. As to your skin rash condition on elbow that comes and goes, taking those will also help should help the acid reflux and the skin rashes. An ordinary distilled vinegar or an apple cider vinegar can be applied to the skin to reduce the rashes. Sometimes flaky skin of the elbow you got can be helpd a lot with omega 3 1000 mg, fish oil 1000 mg, vitamin E 200 i.u., and evening primrose oil 1000 mg. Taken initially for a week before paring down the dose to 1 once a week, after taking it for about 1 or 2 weeks.
04/10/2012: Ava from Brisbane, Australia replies: I took the acv/bs dose as Ted suggests. I had 4 lots, stopped for a few days and had another 2 lots, on the 3rd lot I felt nauseous when I took it. Later I started having very watery diarrhea and vomited the next day. Is this normal for acv/bs, does it detox as well as help PH levels.
Only a bit of liver/gallbladder twinges at present.
If anyone can help with the detox symptoms and have similar or know what is going on, replies would be appreciated. Thanks...
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Whenever the body has insufficient bicarbonates, some can have a reaction. Therefore just take 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water first, taken on an empty stomach twice a day for at least two weeks. On the second week, it is likely to be 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. If you are wary of apple cider vinegar than you can use the lemon or lime formula instead:
8 teaspoon of lime plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water taken 2 times a day on an empty stomach.
Or if you have some loyalty to apple cider vinegar, then,
1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar plus 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water taken 2 times a day on an empty stomach.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Susan: I have many issues of GERD and personally managed to cure all of them, but the most serious problem seems to be finding what is the body deficient in. The most frequently encountered problems is the body CANNOT digest the foods because the intestines WERE UNABLE to neutralize the acid from the stomach, and the stomach basically pushes itself OUT, to prevent furhter damage. A baking soda, taken before meals, especially for more extreme conditions, I would say 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon before one hour meals, and the no more acid reflux.
You can take apple cider vinegar WITH baking soda, only after two weeks of baking soda just to be safe, which I think you may need more than most people.
However try to explore the 1/2 teaspoon 1 hour before meal remedy. This may work itself out a lot better. Is every meal needed? It depends. If you took only once on the first meal and had no GERD, but on the second meal you didn't take it, but you do have GERD. The solution is obvious. 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon before every meal.
I am currently trying to fine tune the GERD problems to resolve the problem even better.
Other GERD I found were due to magnesium deficiency and vitamin B5 and vitamin B8. Those are rare kinds where other remedies don't respond.
In case the body responds nothing, because it refuses to digest ANYTHING. Then taking a bath for two hours soaked in a saturated solution of baking soda. This is at least how health spas work to make you healthy, one of the multitudes of way at least!
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Always try half of the dose. If there is still a problem, just baking soda 1/8 teaspoon, or 1/16 teaspoon will do, but this time without the apple cider vinegar. Taking a bath in baking soda and sea salt helps too. When in doubt, just add a couple of cups in a bathtub.
One more tip. Get a ACV and apply to the skin to test whether you are alergic. But you need to do two things. Applying to skin without the reaction, and a skin that is already having rashes. If the rashes are reduce it should help. Another is to try distilled vinegar and apply to the skin, and then try it mixed with baking soda. Once you found a good combination that is the one that have a chance of producing a minimum rash or reduce rash. Sometimes the body's biochemistry is going against your body, in which case two antioxidants works the best. One is sodium ascorbate, and the other is vitamin E. Try 200 i.u. for sensitive people than decide further whether to increase or reduce dose. The secret to minimum problems is to space them apart..
Elizabeth replies: Hi again, I wrote earlier about what I thought was a psoriasis flare after 5 days on the ACV. (2tsp ACV to 1/16 tsp Baking Soda) I am so sensitive I have to start slow. Anyway, I forgot that I had tried my natural Simicort ( non steroid )cream which always works and it made it worse instead. I had tried it again last night and woke up with worse swelling this am. I have a high IGE 1443 so I may be allergic to the mother if it is a fungus of any kind. I recently found that I am allergic to Mannitol which is derived from a fungus. My pharmacist said that it is a bad one to be allergic to, it is in so many things. Guess this in not for me. Thanks for what you do, you are needed in this world of too much alleopathic medicine and it's side effects which can be much worse. I lost my hearing in one ear last year due to Xolair! I am off Serevent and Advair since I found it was making me worse and now I find out they contain Mannitol a known allergen. It makes no sense to put an allergen into a med that is supposed to help with breathing. I stopped theophyline a month ago now that I have cut out the Mannitol. I can now keep our two Shih Tzu's that we love so much! Keep up the good work, I know I am the exception to the rule. My pharmacist says if it is going to happen to someone it will be me. I hope to turn that around too and make it good things. "Thinking of positive attraction" Elizabeth
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Elizabeth:
Yes, a sensitive person can take acv baking soda at 1/16 teaspoon. The reason for sensitivity to many thing is the body is excess acidity, high free heavy metals, and a small amount of magnesium helps.
The other thing I found, is if you are more sensitive than that, than just gor for 1/16 or 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water. A couple of leaves of fresh coriander added into your soup now and then will remove the excess heavy metals.
Certain chemical toxins can only be detoxed with 3% hydrogen peroxide food grade. For the more sensitive people it is about 1-3 drops of H2O2 3% in 1 glass of water taken in the morning. Adding 1/16 teaspoon of baking soda in that also helps. Hydrogen peroxide basically removes chemical toxins accumulated by the body over the years by oxidation. Even a small amount helps. If you are too sensitive to such, there as a couple of ways to create a tiny amount of hydrogen peroxide whenever water bottle is shaken vigorously. Another is putting several quartz rocks in a plastic bottle and shaken vigorously will produce both a tiny amounts of possibly hydrogen and peroxides, through a piezoelectric effect (weak) and this has a healing power also. It must be noted that our drinking water has chlorine and adding some dechlorinator to rid of the chlorine also helps. If you can't find one, then just put in good quality charcoal in the drinking water bottle, which should last for a couple of days, before it needs discarding.
Elizabeth replies: I am sorry I forgot something else believe it our not. I hope all three emails can be compiled. I have blisters on the roof of my mouth also. Just two and they are going away but it happened after doing the low dose ACV. Thanks again
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Elizabeth: There are actually two ways to reduce or get rid of blisters. Using a baking soda as a mouthwash 3 or 4 times a day, any amount depending on your preference. The other is ACV mixed with plain water, to reduce the acidity so it won't harm the enamel of the teeth. Most foods we eat harms our teeth that should be noted, is sugar, soda pop, and fruit juices. Eating whole fruits is safer because the fiber content of the fruits buffers the acidity of the fruits, as well as sugar. This is why buffer or fibers rich foods are so important for people with diabetes and other allergies. It prevents blood sugar spikes, which may lead to allergies caused by fungus. Fungus have a strong preference for sugar.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Stephanie: You may take it as long as you like.
Apple cider vinegar and baking soda is like a form of nutrition that your body needs, but it not currently recognized. Malic acid component of apple cider vinegar is what gives the body energy. The baking soda the body needs constantly since whenever the body burns fuel, it causes the body to be acidic, as well as most of the foods we do take are also acid forming. It is nice to avoid all the acid forming foods, but it is not practical. Therefore, you may take it as long as you like.
I have been taking this about 35 years and going, but I do not take them everyday, but try to take them whenever I have the occasion to do so, which is most of the time. Two things that I believe are important, lemon (or lime) and baking soda, or apple cider and baking soda. If you are more chemically oriented, it is like vitamin C, potassium citrate, malic acid, and baking soda.
Natural foods have a more broader spectrum of healthy components than do a more purified form. Minerals is also found in apple cider vinegar also.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Gipper: The urinary pH of 4.5 Sounds quite bad. If I had that my body it would indicate a serious state of sodium and water retention, in other words a bloating condition.
If this is not working out for you I found citrates to be of better help. Therefore take one lemon, or one whole lime and add enough baking soda until the fizz at least reduced, then add 1/2 glass of water. The baking soda should at least be about 1/2 teaspoon or above. Citric acid added with baking soda tends to raise pH a bit faster than the apple cider vinegar, but apple cider vinegar have the advantage of more energy.
Consider adding 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt in a drinking water. The mineral imbalances will be corrected and further help raise the pH to normal faster.
Certain foods you are eating must be causing extreme acid condition. Usually it is steaks, bread, white flour, cola, and coffee. Western diets are often lacking in fresh vegetables and fresh fruits.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Ronald: A very acid body requires a lot more baking soda. You can increase the dose but there are limits. Assuming you take too much, then the body becomes a bit diarrhea and loose stool.
My own observation is that the optimal dose seems to exist between 1 teaspoon to 2 teaspoon taken twice a day. This totals 2 teaspoon to 4 teaspoons a day.
Assuming an average of 3 teaspoon a day. This means it becomes 1 teaspoon taken 3 times a day. or 3/4 teaspoon taken 4 times a day.
You are proposing a 1/2 teaspoon taken at between 3 or 4 times a day. This amounts to 1/2 x 3 = 3/2 = 1 1/2 teaspoon per day and hoping to raise it to 1/2 x 4 = 4/2 = 2 teaspoon per day.
Therefore your dose appears to fall within the optimum minimum dose, of 2 teaspoons a day.
This is below a theoretical 3 teaspoon a day median optimum dose. Therefore your dose appears to be a very reasonable one.
As a warning, these does may cause diarrhea in some individuals who have high sodium retention as the body tries to dump excess sodium AND water retention. Which is good, but the diarrhea should continue long. By 1/2 day everything should be normal after the body dumps excess water and sodium. However if not, then the dose should be reduce by 1/2 teaspoon increments until you find a dose that works best for you.
You must remember that I always tend to err on the side of caution. But once people begins to realize larger dose then I can tell you the optimum dose. Always start on the low end so that you will have the necessary confidence of pursuing larger dose.
In Thailand there is a more convenient way of taking them by buying a bottle of 300 mg. sodamint from a local drug store without the drudgery of mixing baking soda. However, in other foreign countries, I don't know if they are easier to find. Beside they tend to add other additives and I would much prefer the plain vanilla baking soda is the best.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Do I add the bs and then add the vinegar and do I let it do its thing and for how long?
Add apple cider vinegar usually 2 tablespoon into a glass of water. Add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Wait about 3 minutes. Stir. It will foam. Add water to 1/2 glass. Stir. You are done and ready to drink.
Would you suggest not to use water for the acid reflux and just use the acv and baking soda?
Add water so that the stomach can drain the reacted ACV and baking soda better. For me 1/2 glass of water is sufficient.
The burning on the back of the throat the body may be oversensitive to the apple cider vinegar. A well reacted baking soda and acv with a pH of 7 usually won't have problems. If you think there is problem, get another brand of ACV or use just baking soda alone at 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon of baking added to just 1/2 glass of water. Water is always needed to dilute the solution so it passes through the stomach easier and helps intestinal absorption in of the bicarbonates faster also. It is more like hydration.
Quite often the burning of throat is that ACV was only used or ACV was used and baking soda has not properly reacted and no water was added to dilute the solution.
Whichever the problem, baking soda used as mouthwash to neutralize the excess acid first which might reduce the problem as some people seem to have a condition of acid tongue.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: You say during your instructions to first add 2 tablespoons of ACV and add it to a glass of water! did you mean just a glass with no water?
Most people will add ACV and baking soda, in whatever container.
Some people will add ACV and baking soda in a glass WITH water.
It is the same regardless, but the reason why some people add them WITHOUT water is to prevent the bubbles from overflowing.
I do the opposite, so that the bubbles are diluted and don't overflow either, but the reaction is slow.
And I wanted to let you know that I have had the burning in the back of my throat for months now so I'm not sure what it is and the Drs are leading to IBS?
Burning throat is often acid buildup. It is much like acid tongue. Acid buildup can occur in different parts of the body depending on where circulations gets congested. You congestion appears to be in the throat area.
Donna replies: Thank you Mr. Ted for getting back to me! I have one more question for you regarding your email. If I have acid build up in my throat then what solution can you give me to use Thank you so much for your emails and this website and for your patience Donna ~ Tampa
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Take internally 1/2 teaspoon baking soda mixed in 1/2 glass of water either three or 4 times a day. Always start on the low end of 3 times a day first.
It takes the body about 2 weeks to buildup the required alkalinity to neutralizes various parts of localized acid buildup.
Preferably taken on empty stomach is best. Monitor how well you sleep and energy levels the next day. Too much may cause temporary diarrhea, and reduced sodium retention and water retention. Therefore reduce the dose by 1/2 teaspoon per day if taken too much."
How long should I be doing this mixture for the acid build up and when should I be feeling a difference?
About 2 weeks. Yes you will feel the difference. The burning should reduce also.
~ Should I ever do the ACV mixture with the bs and water? Would this affect the acid reflux?
Yes you can add ACV mixture on the 3rd week. Acid reflux should be appreciably be reduced.
03/06/2007: Donna replies: Thank you so much for getting back to me however, you say during your instructions to first add 2 tablespoons of ACV and add it to a glass of water! did you mean just a glass with no water? Please clear this up for me since I am confused about this concoction to begin with and very eager to start it? And I wanted to let you know that I have had the burning in the back of my throat for months now so I'm not sure what it is and the Drs are leading to IBS? Any suggestions? Thanks again and Blessings Donna.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: In practice I take baking soda one hour or more before eating or one hour or more after eating. Apple cider vinegar can be mixed with most of your favorite foods such as salads.
The exception for taking ACV in some few cases appear to be GERD or acid reflux, where adding baking soda can often help reduce the time food spends in the stomach.
The more alkaline the pH of the food is, the less time the food spends in the stomach and hence reduced food fermentation will results in fewer acid reflux episodes.
1) does the baking soda make the ACV lose its value in anyway, since it neutralizes its acidic formation?? and
2) I add about 1 teaspoon of baking soda to 1 or 2 teaspoon(s) of ACV; then I put all that in a cup of water. So is that too much baking soda, or is it ok?? I was hoping that this would help in my weight loss since I would like to lose about 25 lbs. I currently weigh 145 lbs, and I would like to be 120 lbs. I'm 62.6 inches in height. So I would be very grateful if you give me your recommendation on my case please. Thank you.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Heidi: First off, the chemical properties basically remains the same, but the pH is changed. Chemically a malic acid and a malate acid in the apple cider vinegar are the same only that it is neutralized by the baking soda. We often call acetates, malates, bicarbonates the pH buffering solution needed to modify the pH, but not really change the basic chemical composition.
Usually a strong acid, or a strong alkaline with other appropriate chemicals and heat added can you change the chemical composition sometimes completely.
Chemical compositions DO change during heating of the foods at high temperatures, such as vegetable oils reacting with potato chips, or french fries of course can cause chemically causing compound, acrylamide.
The fact that you heat foods in microwave, the organic molecules become altered and the DNA composition of the foods also gets changed, or the alteration of a simple protein into a potential neurotoxin. There is a great potentials for using microwave (like our ovens) to synthesize neurotoxin chemicals, but hardly appropriate eating. Of course, fast foods use it all the time to heat your fried chickens, grilled chickens, and even convenient store and you don't even give second thoughts.
The things you do almost every day is more worrisome than a simple pH buffer mixed with a standard acid solution to make it more compatible with your body.
1 teaspoon baking soda to 1 teaspoon of Apple Cider vinegar is too little on the apple cider vinegar end. I think 1 teaspoon of baking soda to 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar would be more ideal. Of course 1 teaspoon of baking soda is a bit on the high side, but it is near the amount the body needs.
It must be stressed that if you want weight loss, you need to take 1 tablespoon of granulated powdered lecithin with every meal (if the prices are cheap), or at least 1 tablespoon everyday.
There are many causes to obesity, one simple one is pH and lack of fat emulsifiers that the body needs to reduce weight. Other causes includes lowered metabolism due to energy levels, etc. required more complicated remedy. It is therefore best to concentrate on those first. It also helps a lot if you can take sodium ascorbate vitamin C 500 mg. it prevents the fats in your body or the fluids in your body from reacting against you, toxic free radicals while you reduce your weight.
1. I have my grandma drinking this AVC recently hoping that it'll improve her overall health. Unfortunately, she has more stomachaches than usual. She has to go to the restroom 3-4 times daily(doing 2s). Now, she wanted to stop even though she could sleep better at night and had more energy. Is there anything I could do to help her? or should I change 2 tbls AVC 1/4 tsp baking soda dosage to something else?
2. Ever since I've been taking AVC baking soda, I get unusually sleepy after every meal. Is this normal? Also, the taste is hard to swallow so if I were to eat a spoonful of honey after drinking the AVC, would that lessen the benefits? If I were to drink this daily for several years and suddenly stop, would this create any adverse effect?
3. I've been experiencing chronic shoulder pain for the longest time, even if I don't do any heavy work. If I were just to sit, stand, or walk around for more than 1 hour, I get this pain. In other words, I have this pain all the time even when I don't do anything! Sometimes it's sharp sometimes it's mild, I don't know what to do. I've been taking multivitamins and exercise regularly. I've always been eating healthy foods, ranging from fruits to veggies, and sometimes meat and fish. I rarely eat fast foods or drink sodas and coffee. I've done my part for living healthy but this chronic shoulder-neck pain seems to never go away. I really really appreciate for your help answering all these questions! Thank you so much! and God Bless you kat.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: For your grandmother, frequent bathroom breaks is good. It reduces toxic buildup. However it is IMPORTANT to realize that you need to mix Apple Cider Vinegar to the baking soda, otherwise you will get stomachaches and stomach upsets. The formula of 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 1/4 teaspoon is the safest one I can come up with.
Adding honey is not helpful especially when you are older and diabetic.
Whenever you do get sleepy it means the body really needs a rest, a long rest. Lack of proper rests can be shown if the body is sufficiently alkaline. To prevent this, and if you don't have stomach problems you can add some cayenne peppers to the formula. It is difficult to describe how much, but it is about 1/16 teaspoon of cayenne pepper powder added. It may help reduce the sleepiness. At least this is what I do, but I eat fresh green cayenne peppers to prevent me from falling asleep, not in the middle of the night, but usually during boring office hours. Cinnamon oil on a toothpick is another one. Cinnamon spices is more appropriate additions you can also add to the apple cider vinegar and baking soda, to prevent sleepiness also.
If you find apple cider vinegar with baking soda hard to swallow, I won't use honey. I prefer lemon juice or blended or crushed strawberries, and blended or crushed cherries. Those are I think more healthy and there is a lot of health benefits with cherries too. Perhaps cherry juice is appropriate, at least it doesn't more sugar content than honey. Of course you can also add some lemon also. They are synergistic with the apple cider vinegar and helps reduce the smell.
The body needs bicarbonates, you can't stop them too long. It won't have adverse effects, simply your body will be what it is like BEFORE you took apple cider vinegar and baking soda.
As to the mysterious shoulder pain, it takes a while to go away, but take 250 mg Magnesium citrate (or gluconate or chloride) for about at least a week. Sometimes a magnesium deficiency (at least in my case it was), will cause the chronic pain to go completely away within 3 days. Take some potassium supplements should also help balance the electrolytes.
03/05/2007: Linda from Orlando, FL replies: On the Baking Soda & ACV page Katie from Santa Ana was asking about her chronic shoulder pain and what to do.
I had a severe rotator cuff injury about 3 years ago. I could not even lift my arm. Initially I took glucosamine and chondroiton, which helped alot with the healing and the pain. I was taking two pills per day for about 2 years, and then 1 pill a day for the past year. If I stopped taking the glucosamine and chondroiton the pain would return.
I found this site a few weeks ago and have begun taking molasses with my morning coffee. I read (on a different page) that it helps with inflammation and pain. I have not needed the glucosamine and chondroiton ever since!
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: A simple way is that sodium retention and high blood pressure goes hand in hand. Sodium retention causes water retention too. Therefore, measuring blood pressure is before and after taking it is often a good indicator. If the body becomes constipated after taking baking soda and ACV for example, it means the body is absorbing all the sodium being taken in, along with whatever food you are having. If the body excretes liquids by way of urine or feces more frequently it is often a sign that the body is giving up sodium. The reasoning is quite simple, most liquid portion of urine and feces are actually sodium! Basically, the more liquefied or watery the feces is, the more the sodium. This is often a simple rule of thumb to determine it.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dave:
Triglycerides was over 195, LDL level for my cholesterol was over 170, total cholesterol was over 255.
Take granulated powdered lecithin with every meal, at ne tablespoon. In a month the total cholesterol will be down to about 180 or 190. That is my experience. Continued taking will go down to normal levels and every country will have different standards what that normal level is.
What is your suggestion on taking lemon juice that has preservatives and additives in it?
Most processed foods are acid forming, so it is best used as a fresh fruit forming being the best. Additives, DEPENDS on what kinds of additive. To take that is like a wild card. It is hard to predict whether it is good or bad, but i prefer to stay away from problems like that.
What effects if any does using 16 oz of water instead of 8 oz of water have on the health effectiveness of the acv and baking soda?
If you can drink 16 oz, fine. If you want to drink 8 oz fine too. If 16 oz works best for you, it simply means you are not drinking enough water. If the baking soda and acv is the same in both 8 oz and 18 oz, the issue appears more likely not drinking enough water. As to the taste issue, that varies with a person's taste.
What possible reason would my side hurt with the concentrated vs the unconcentrated organic Lakewood?
In chemistry, the zeta potentials and electrical properties of a concentrated organic is much poorer than an unconcentrated one. That means the colloidal properties of an unconcentrated ones are superior, and the concentrated ones are less natural since the water portion is boiled off and they become less biologically active, in terms of zeta potentials, ORP, and a host of other issues. This is why it hurts more to drink a concentrated one, it is more like an over processed food. The less the food is processed, reconstituted, concentrated, the more natural it is and more compatible with our bodies. The answer is beyond this email.
Is there any benefits of adding lemon juice to the acv and baking soda or can it hurt the health
Benefits of taking acv and baking soda? There are many minerals and elements our body needs. So lemon and acv plus baking soda would work the best. Get your ORP meter and you will know why it is so healthy. The solution is strongly antioxidant with a negative value, while most foods we eat, especially concentrated juice are quite oxidant and has a positive value and steals electrons from the body, and hence, a free radical and accelerates aging.
How much is to much lemon juice and what happens if you take to much lemon juice?
Lemon juice is best taken with baking soda. WIthout it, even one whole lemon is too strong for most people to handle.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Three times a day on empty stomach is better, but in practice it is two times a day, because of convenience. The average dose is 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. The pH is exactly neutral at 7.0 pH. But in theory the pH should be closer to 7.35 as same as the blood, but that is still not a perfect formula as the body must processed and the end urinary pH is the deciding factor at 7.35 is best. In practice, higher than 7 pH, but below 7.5 is often the case as most people's food they consume tend to be quite acid. Where most diets the average urinary pH is around 7.5, which is quite unhealthy since urinary pH should be between 6.5 to 7.35. Taking hospital meds will definitely distort the true value of pH, so it is quite difficult to real figures unless the hospital meds were temporarily stopped to actually measure the true value.
on an empty stomach or with food?
On empty stomach is often better. If taken along with food, in some cases this may lead to diarrhea. This is of course from the baking soda added to mix. Of course in some cases constipation problems might overrule this matter. But for acid reflux problem, this should be taken at 1 hour or more before meal, and this is referred only to the apple cider vinegar plus baking soda formula.
and is it taken every day or in cycles?
Ideally, 5 days out of the week. The body for some reason needs a rest for at least 2 days. It is more like a cycle.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Baking soda and drinking plenty of water, if the body is sufficiently alkaline and hydrated, quite often reduces blood uric acid levels. The water will dissolve them and the alkalinity will either prevent their formation or neutralize them.
I never pursued using baking soda directly but blood results I have seen often resulted in lower uric acid levels after taking the remedy. However, a sensible diet eating low uric acid foods are helpful. Most seafood and certain meats are quite often high in uric acid and it is best to eat them sparingly. Drinking too much coffee may also cause high uric acid, perhaps because coffee are acid forming foods, and therefore eating alkaline forming food is also helpful.
11/06/2012: Saad from Baghdad, Iraq replies: What are the foods very low in uric acid?
11/09/2012: Wendy from Columbus, Oh/USA replies: If you google "foods low in uric acid", or "foods low in purines", you'll get a lot of results. Per one site, "A low-purine diet consists of foods which are low in purine content. Purine is a substance that is found in foods and is produced naturally by the body. Purines are broken down by the body and changed to uric acid. The kidneys normally filter the uric acid and the uric acid leaves the body through the urine. However, people with gout sometimes have a build-up of uric acid in the blood. Uric acid may build up because the body makes too much. It may also build up because the body does not get rid of enough uric acid through the urine. High levels of uric acid can cause urate crystals to form in the joints. The buildup of these crystals causes swelling, which is called a gout attack or gout pain."
This site provides a list of high/medium/low-purine foods:
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Christine: Much of the problem has to do with adding baking soda in the cooking along with heating of food. Most vitamins are destroyed more from heating and unnatural forms of vitamins in their hydrochloride forms.
Also certain vitamin companies produces thiamine hydrochloride which gets destroyed with baking soda. However certain natural thiamine, are not destroyed by acid reactions.
In fact, thiamine acid forms often gets destroyed anyway as it enters your blood since the body must maintain a pH of 7.35. Off by only 0.5 pH and you die.
The thiamine in form of Hydrochloride is therefore not a biologically available form either. A preferred form are the non-hydrochloride forms or low acid forms, such as thiamine mononitrate. Therefore bicarbonates do not destroy vitamin B1 inside your body, if you diets are already eating fresh fruits and vegetables.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dusteen: Calcium carbonate is not reactive to ACV at room temperatures and will form a precipitate. Most of the body's extracellular fluids is controlled mostly by sodium bicarbonate. The general optimum makeup of calcium extracellular fluids are very small and cannot be used as it would go against normal cellular fluid makeup. Study Ringer's Mammalian solution, which is a similar component of cellular fluids you need to keep tissues alive in a petri dishes, for example. Or organ transplants which is bathed in those solutions.
The issue of too much sodium can be handled with adding some potassium bicarbonate. But you have to be careful. The body's extracellular fluids is about 90% sodium and about less than or equal to 10% potassium.
The issue of sodium retention has very much to do with other issues, the lack of nitric oxide production, the lack of alkalinity. The older you get the more calcium is circulated in your serum and this tends to clog the system more than anything else, causing calcification of the tissues as you age while the bones don't have enough calcium. THis is due to acid blood as it dissolves bones very much like acid rain. You don't need that much acidity to do the job like the acid rain dissolving Greek statues and monuments. It does the same thing in your body. A potassium will displace sodium, but people can have real issues (side effects) if potassium is given too much in relation to sodium, because the body's cellular fluids are very much sodium anyway, however I am not trying to push sodium, but more like sodium and potassium.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Quite often diarrhea occurs when this is taken along with food or you took this almost at the same time or within 30 minutes of eating food.
In some cases, the reason for this is the salt and the baking soda have an effect of causing the body to give up water and sodium retention via diarrhea. It has the same effect as diuretics, only this is directed at the bowels instead of the kidney, which is safer, but less socially acceptable.
If you don't want to experience this, the remedy is best taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before meals. This means one hour or more before meals or after meals should not cause the diarrhea or loose stools. The effect of loose stools is reduced blood pressure as the water retention and sodium retention is reduced. Of course if you want a remedy for constipation you will in effect do the opposite, which means take this along with your food, especially salty foods, preferably the use of sea salt to your food as sea salt is alkaline forming as opposed to common table salt, which is acid forming. Alkaline forming sea salts reduce constipation while acid forming common table salt does the opposite. Baking soda merely causes the sea salt to have a stronger loose stool effects, which is at least for me, on many occasions have a detoxification effect by cleaning out the intestines.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The body's extracellular fluids are about 90% sodium and 10% potassium. Calcium is even less than that. Therefore, whatever we take it the foods we eat should at least reflect our own body's fluids, in a proportion that is fairly close to it.
The body in an attempt to alkalize will try to retain sodium, however if the body has sufficient alkalinity, it would loose the sodium easier, especially with adding some potassium will displace the sodium.
So a better formula than the one I have posted (ACV and baking soda) would be 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/8 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate. I have many cases have people who took calcium bicarbonates, calcium citrate and then had kidney stones, calcification of tissues, wrinkling of the skin, and other problems.
The reason why calcium occurs in high amounts in the tissues in most people is simple: when the body is acid, calcium tends to leech out of the bones and get into the body's serum, causing tissue calcium saturation and causing clogging in capillaries. One simple demonstration it to put chicken bones in vinegar for a week. But in your body a slight acidity can actually dissolve the bones, much like acid rain eating up Greek statues.
One of the major aging biomarkers scientists use is to actually measure the amount of calcium found in the tissues, especially in your pineal glands. Too much calcium crystallization and clogging can cause more problems, along with your sleep cycles.
The safest way I think is to take whatever liquids that are most compatible with the body's extracellular fluids in similar proportion.
In a Ringer's solution needed to keep the tissues alive in petri dishes, for example, a 9: 1 sodium to potassium is a good ratio. Most people who are health conscious do not take junk foods in general, therefore a sodium to potassium 9:1 appears to be reasonable.
I knew Australian writer who was so fond of taking just the opposite, where a potassium is 9 times the sodium. He has since died from lack of sodium. Even proponents who think alkalizing using calcium has in many cases led to the formation of kidney stones. In alternative medicine, the only reported deaths I am aware of is taking too much potassium or surgery removal operation from taking too much calcium.
If you think taking sodium causes high sodium retention, try this simple experiment: take 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt to 1 glass of water.
In general taking that will cause a diarrhea, and blood pressure is reduced, as well as reduce sodium levels, from the diarrhea obviously.
The issue of sodium retention occurs in my opinion from acid forming foods and certain foods that are oxidizing. Sulfites, and halogens, such as chlorite, for example tend to cause the blood pressure to rise in minutes.
Eating fried food is another one that causes high sodium retention and the blood pressure rises, but this takes about 1-2 hour to notice its effect. Taking potassium sulfites, can cause a rise in blood pressure and sodium retention in seconds also, but there is no sodium in the potassium sulfites.
Calcium chlorite, or even sodium chlorite can cause high sodium retention, high blood pressure rises within couple minutes too. Chlorites and even hypochlorites have oxidizing properties as well as acid forming from the halogens. Both of these can cause the blood pressure to rise precipitously followed by sodium retention as the body seeks to normalize its pH by retaining more sodium from the food you eat over the course of a day.
You can easily raise blood pressure even just by eating sugar with common table salt (common table salt is acid forming), but at the same time you can even reduce some blood pressure just by taking baking soda and sea salt. I would much prefer a pinch of potassium added, just to be safe. The issue has a lot to do with halogens, acid forming foods, oxidized foods (fried foods), and sulfites and chlorites compounds.
Why it does that is simple: some of these compounds neutralizes the body's nitric oxide production either by directly neutralizing it or by blocking it. For example, sulfites will neutralize a nitric oxide in the body. The body uses nitric oxide to control the blood pressure. An oxidized oils from fried food will block the body's hormonal functions from the free fatty acids.
It is a long story to completely discuss the cause of high sodium retention and what causes high blood pressure. The easiest way to deal with this problem is to take whatever foods that are most compatible with your own body's fluids, in similar proportion ratios, and alkalinity. It is the most natural approach I can think of. Of course you are free to try anything you wish. This is just only my opinion and nothing more.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: No. Hydrogen peroxide will neutralize the vitamin C and other organic compounds in the apple cider vinegar. It is best taken for hydrogen peroxide with water alone, or at least 6 hours apart.
The reason is simple, hydrogen peroxide is an oxidant, while apple cider vinegar and baking soda is an antioxidant.
You can however, mix drops of hydrogen peroxide with baking soda in a drinking water. It creates a more alkaline form of peroxides which can also detoxify the body of accumulated poisons built up in the liver.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Dave:
What is wrong with using normal tap water. What is the difference and does it make a difference?
Yes it does. When you add ACV with mineral water, both acv and mineral water are alkaline forming. On the other hand most tap waters now contain fluoride and chloride. Both are halogens, and they are acid forming. When it goes into your body it causes the body to become more acid, which is basically the same as eating fast food, also acid forming. Somewhere along the way, we simply have to stop taking too much acid forming foods, it tends to promote bacterial, viral, and cancer growth in such acid medium and lowers the ability for the body at hold enough oxygen needed to kill the microbes.
Is there anything wrong or bad from mixing it with carbonated water?
Carbonated water can be turned to an advantage if you take supplements that contain lots of carbonates. If you dissolve those supplements it is converted to bicarbonates allowing the body to absorb the supplements better. If just taking alone, the carbonate water are just temporarily acid water which will cause you to burp. However, there is no real harm to drinking it other than if your body has excess carbonates long your digestive system and might help clear out some of it, although slight.
I tried the honey with acv and baking soda. The honey did not help much though.
Honey tastes nice, but it often doesn't help most conditions (e.g. cough) in practice. If you want it to taste nice a little squeeze of lemon juice is better. Another way around it is not adding too much honey, just add enough to make it palatable and no more. Sweets in general tends to suppress the immune system, exceptions of course is stevia.
when add the baking soda does it stop the acid killing ability of the baking soda or weaken it any?
The killing ability is OFTEN not the acid, it is usually the alkaline baking soda. The malates and acetates of the vinegar portion whether acid or alkaline tends to dissolve the virus protein protecting them and kills them. Most strep throat condition can be stopped with alkaline solutions of baking soda, not the acid solution of vinegar, however adding peroxide might help kill them in both instances.
What is the general rule for adding honey to water?
Add enough to be palatable and no more. As a general rule, if you are sick, no sweets. It suppresses the immune system for 2 hours. Take vitamin C instead, sodium ascorbate. It blocks sugar metabolism by the viruses.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Daniel: One whole lemon and ADD baking soda until no more fizz. Then add just 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda more. Add water to 1/2 glass. The solution is alkaline and will not effect the teeth enamel since the solution will usually be above pH of 7 and closer to 8 because of the 1/4 teaspoon extra added.. Enamel erosion is due to lemon with pH below 5 and causes dissolving. Alkaline drinks such as lemon and baking soda will cause the capillaries to expand and the drying will go away. Your body seems to be quite acid and as often constipation can occur in such a condition.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear MU101: Weight loss is quite more common with ACV baking soda then ACV alone.
How often should ACV and Sodium Bicarbonate be taken?
Twice a day on an empty stomach.
Should I include this in my daily diet forever?
Yes, forever, but taken only 4 days out of 7 days. The other three days you do nothing. The body needs to go in cycles, or it needs a vacation of approximately 3 days sometimes 2 days, but the figure seems to be 3 days in generally.
Sorry, I can't be exact, but that is the math as far as I can do!
I also have a 7 year old. Would it be safe for my child to take the ACV and Sodium Bicarbonate?
Half dose, 4 days out of 7 days.
Twice a day, once in the morning empty stomach and before bedtime empty stomach too.
And for how long?
As long as you like if there are no problems.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Georgia: If in doubt, mix it with the food! No one can blame you for eating healthy food! Therefore to the same remedy ADD this to your salad plus add some italian dressing. No one can accuse you now of using strange home remedies, it is just that you have a peculiar tastes of adding the baking soda to the salad!
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Nick: The body's biological terrain for urinary pH is between 6.5 - 7.35 If you can measure them regularly to stay within that parameter it is great.
If taking sodium bicarbonate with a big pinch of potassium bicarbonate long term use to get it within that parameters allows the body for optimum functioning. Too alkaline is not good, nor is too acid. Moderation is best and optimum is always something in the center.
Unfortunately 90% of our foods we eat are acid forming. So to be practical, baking soda helps in only 90% of the cases, but as usual, this is taken on an empty stomach so that the stomach will empty to the intestines where it is to be used whenever the food that are digested by the stomach to neutralized the excess acid so the stomach acid won't eat up the intestines and causing scars or constipation. Long term constipation from lack of bicarbonates may lead to hemorrhoids. You can probably guessed what is the effect of long term acid stomach eating up the intestines - the mysterious of the leaky gut syndrome. The cause of leaky gut in one way is lack of sufficient bicarbonates to neutralize the stomach acid!
Does he feel that the amount of sodium bicarbonate used in combination with Apple Cider Vinegar is too little to cause any problems?
Apple cider vinegar contains minerals which lead the body to alkalinity, unfortunately the malic acid portion of the ACV requires the body's bicarbonates necessary to neutralize it. Without sufficient bicarbonates in the body to neutralized will bring the common problems of "acid tongue", a phrase earthclinic coined as a result of first discovering the problem and the treatment using baking soda sometime ago. This is why it works for some taking ACV and why it doesn't work for others. The missing link is the baking soda. The best solution is a neutral solution, of pH 7, where 2 tablespoon of ACV plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda will get a pH of 7.
Is the ingestion of sodium bicarbonate able to actually influence the amount of bicarbonate in our blood?
The kidneys if a filtration center to remove excess acid out of the body. Taking baking soda of just 1 teaspoon plus 1/2 glass of water, for me, will cause my urinary pH from acidity due to bad diets, of 5.5 to about 6.5 within 2 hours. The bicarbonates goes into the blood rather quickly if the body is already in need of it, however most bicarbonates are stored in your 20 food long intestines needed to neutralized the acid by the stomach and these intestines needs to take insults of excess acid using bicarbonates necessary to neutralize them. Without sufficient bicarbonates, the acid goes into the blood for example oxalic acid in beans, goes into the blood, sees the calcium and form calcium oxalate which tend to accumulate in your kidneys. Without sufficient bicarbonates, as you can see, the acid will react with the body's' bones which is high in calcium, causing excess calcium in the blood and your bones become brittle from lack of it - the acid simply ate it up, just like the acid rain as it reacts with ancient monuments and eats away the face of the statue. Most monuments are made composed of calcium carbonates.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Nanette: Getting over the Antibiotic Aftershocks remedies is one of the remedies that I am working with right now, but at least I will tell you my experience as to how I got over it. At least I had one nightmare experience that I remember that required me to go to the hospital too, but writing the detailed response on this treatment from day one after the antibiotic breakout, is time I cannot afford. But I can tell you a briefly.
Basically, the best way to TREAT the burning skin from antibiotics aftershocks is that the BODY IS trying to GET RID OF THE TOXINS accumulated from the antibiotics. Water won't help much, but it does some. The best way to do this is to get the body wet in a bathroom, I mean completely wet.
Secondly, get a dry bentonite powder, or bentonite clay and mix with water. Make a rather concentrated one, like 10 or 20%. Apply the mud on the body throughout. Wait at least 30 minutes to allow the mud to dry. The bentonite will suck up the oil soluble antibiotics FROM THE BODY. Rinse completely. Repeat this for at least four more times. If it comes back again do it. The fire itches should be reduced by at least 80% now.
Thirdly, apply simple vinegar throughout the body, so this means getting several bottle of vinegar.
Since there is so much of the toxins of antibiotics in the body, repeating steps two and three is important, so you may do this in later parts of the steps or after several more days. However on fourth day, I often don't see any MORE lingering side effects. Often this antibiotics lingering side effects last years and often leads to yeast infection and that could be best handled in step four!
Step four, I will take borax baths, and even mouthwash my mouth with borax solution. One teaspoon in one half glass of water. One glass of drinking water, I will add one large pinch of borax to each glass, add some lemon juice, or perhaps some other drinks, such as ginger tea, for example. The borax will neutralize and kill off fungus, the best I have seen yet. In some cases I may need to add a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide to clear the lingering antibiotics in my stomach.
Basically step five is getting the body to normalize, which is best often handled with taking vitamin B complex (antibiotics causes vitamin B deficiency), magnesium chloride, molybdenum, zinc and most important of all, vitamin C sodium ascorbate.
Under the mentioned condition, I think acv baking soda will help you, but also vitamin C sodium ascorbate 500 mg/day, zinc gluconate 25/mg 2 days per week, some molybdenum supplements and magnesium. ACV baking soda will normalize most biological parameters, but also Lemon baking soda formula too. To raise the body temperature, 2 day a week iodine foot painting should normalize most hormonal problems. But still, consider mixing borax mouthwash several times a day, it will remove whatever toxins in the mouth and will also effect the body systems in removing certain lingering fungus from the aftershock antibiotics.
Still, granulated powdered lecithin, in my opinion is the best remedy whenever the body has low levels of hormones. Basically hormones functions are blocked by fat and free fatty acid. By taking granulated powdered lecithin, 1-2 tablespoon with every meal as well as taking a couple more on an empty stomach will quickly get the hormones to quickly function more efficiently.
There are other remedies but these are the essentials for Antibiotics Aftershock Remedy.
And sorry about the slow response -- I am completely flooded with emails!
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Penny: It's the baking soda. Carbonated soda has no baking soda, and won't be helpful. When ACV reacts with baking soda it creates a carbon dioxide, or the fizz.
Baking soda when reacted with the ACV is converted from a malic to a malate, and it is the malate after reaction which the body has direct use in buffering pH, but bicarbonate still remains a major component which the body still needs to neutralize the acid.
Think of it this way, the car runs on gasoline, as it burns fuel it creates heat in the engine. As the engine burns fuel, it is overheated, the motor or engine gets destroyed. This is why the car needs a radiator to cool the car down, so that the engine can operate without destroying itself from the fuel. Baking soda works like a car's radiator in your body. When our body makes use of food as a fuel, it burns the food into acid and the acid is the heat of the engine, but at the same time this acid can also destroy the body's engines (the mitochondria) so we die a quick death when the engine is destroyed quicker resulting from early cell death.
The baking soda acts as a coolant like a radiator by neutralizing the acid buildup in the body so that the body can operate the engine without overheating.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Louise: A tingling sensation appears to be toxins release as bacteria are killed by the baking soda and ACV from the alkalization. Some people who do even oil pulling can even feel tingling sensations in the scalp. The effect is the same in both cases, when bacteria and microbes are killed. If this is true, you need to add one drop of peppermint to the ACV and baking soda to reduce the toxins whenever bacteria are killed and the peppermint will neutralize them. The same is also true for even oil pulling. In other words, most natural therapies do experience some Herxheimer effect and this can be helped with peppermint oil and in some case lavender oil and in another cases vinegar. They all have detoxifying effect by neutralizing toxins, but in very different ways.
The other issue is that poor circulation could also be vitamin B complex deficiency and taking them, not everyday but only for a couple of days would help circulation. Reducing some sugar will also help circulation too. Sugar often interferes with circulation and chromium, manganese, and vanadium supplements should also help.
It is important that most natural therapies can be taken often but not every time so that it allows the body to relax and detoxify itself also. The body also needs a break. When I alkalize I can take it every other day or take it for 4-5 days straight and off for 2-3 days.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Jamie: They are alkaline in different ways. ACV has minerals that cause to be alkaline but there are no "shock absorbers" to prevent acid and alkaline to reach optimum levels without the use of bicarbonates.
Do the two together make the drink too Alkaline? Does adding Baking Soda cancel out the benefits of ACV?
If you don't do it the body will do itself by using its own bicarbonates to neutralize the ACV. If there is insufficient bicarbonates, some can even get acid reflux from just taking ACV instead of curing it. And in many cases people who do take ACV alone will have acid tongue. In particular extreme case, the tongue was so acidic it tore apart. The condition was cured after adding the baking soda to the ACV. This happens quite often to people who are athletes who tend to eat high protein diets.
However, I started adding 1/4 tsp or less Baking Soda to my breakfast smoothie because I read that fruit juices can be too acidic. Is this recommended?
If you fear being to acid or too alkaline, get a pH meter and measure your urine pH. This will tell you. In general, fruit juices I do not recommend be taken as they are often high in sugars and there is lack of fibers to prevent the sudden rise in blood sugar. Eating whole fruits is recommended.
If you insist on drinking them then just add sodium alginates or food thickeners such as apple pectin which will buffer the body against a sudden increase in sugar to the body and this can have a negative impact for people with diabetes or sugar problems.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: I worry about excess sugar in orange juice, founded or unfounded, I do not know. But in practice it is best (from my experience) to mix them in lemon or lime juice.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Lonnie: Heat intolerance is caused by several conditions. Vitamin C (sodium ascorbate), high acidity (lack of buffers) and magnesium. All three are equally important. The fact that you are not sweating is that the capillaries are constricted due to excess acidity, and these three will help. It also helps that one freshly squeezed lemon plus adding some baking soda until the fizz stops and add this to 1/2 glass of water to help. Taking some electrolyte drinks might also help.
07/05/2013: Larry from New York City, NY replies: I am heat (weather and humidity, that is) intolerant. I found your answer on it intriguing. I do take about 600mg daily - magnesium citrate - are you saying that can be the reason for the heat intolerance? but lemon and baking soda (how much?) help? Can you say anything more as far as causes and answers for it please? Thank You
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Tony: Over 150 years ago, the goiter problems did not required the removal of thyroid. And the amount they gave was quite high like 250 mg. of iodine. All they gave was giving plenty of iodine and hundreds were cured. I guess today surgeons are more eager to remove them thus creating more problems. I strongly recommend you to read this article and see the light.
Sodium thyroxine and sodium bicarbonates are both sodium so both tends to compete for your body of the sodium, thus interfering witht he sodium thyroxine. Therefore, taking potassium form might be a more safer alternative by not interfering with the sodium thyroxine. Of course, I am old fashioned, take it at different times using the old formula sodium bicarbonate at 90% and 10% with potassium bicarbonate at times where the sodium thyroxine won't interfere directly with the body.
It is possible for certain glands missing might be regenerated using sound therapy I have heard of one instance where this happens with vocal cord removed completely and they were regenerated. Iodine painting on feet might be a more acceptable method done 3 a days a week so the body can produce its own hormones. Certain cells can do that even if the glands are missing, for example, even without adrenal glands, taking vitamin B5, will cause the skin cells to produce adrenal hormones also. I don't know about thyroid, but I am sure some iodine would be helpful.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Using weak H2O2 inhalation for your asthmatic and you want to also use white vinegar and baking soda? Well, this is a weaker form, and might help, but not much. However, I think for a sea salt solution for inhalation or with some H2O2 added would be the way to go. For some reason, sea salt inhalation is much prefer to clearing the breathing passages. It is a more natural approach. One major reason why sea salt works so well is due to the fulvic acid (trace micromineral) in the sea salt, which is often gray or light brown in color. I have been cured with asthma condition just taking fulvic acid, so I would assume adding sea salt with this trace content would help. In fact sea salt inhalation is one of the old home remedies that seem to work well in some cases to.
Also using white vinegar alone is also one way to do it too. However adding baking soda in my opinion might weaken the solution.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Sandra: Mix ACV and baking soda only as needed please! If not, they will spoil. ACV alone won't spoil because its pH is so acidic, but in a pH between 6-7 the possibility of spoilage increases. The combo is not good for long-term storage.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Scott: Yes. The solution of 2 tablespoon of ACV and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda equals exactly the pH of 7. People whose body are too acid won't have problems if the solution is too acid. People whose body are too alkaline won't have problems if the solution is too alkaline. The dividing world is pH of 7. This is the ideal acid, with malates and bicarbonates that is responsible for your health. Nature is about balance. Your pH of blood goes off by 0.5 and you will die near instantaneous death.
I remember one famous Thai singer who got sick and tired of slow saline IV solution that she turned up the valve to quickly finished the draining. Within 30 minutes she died of acidosis. The saline solution they used in hospital was a bit more acidic then her blood by only pH -0.30
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The muscle aches and pain is due to lack of bicarbonates and the need for vitamin B complex and some magnesium chloride or magnesium citrate.
We have heard all of the good things that is does, but what is the bad side? Are there any warnings that we should be aware of, and if so, what possible remedies for those side effects. This is to good to be true!!!!! We want to continue taking this, but we want to be smart about it. We have already noticed that we get very cotton mouthed, and need to drink more water. Want to be well informed and cured of all of our ailments. The way that we take it is very easy. we mix 1 tablespoon of acv with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, 4 drops of unflavored stevia, and 8 0z of fruit punch. 2 times a day. Yummy!!! Should we be taking supplements with this? And, are there any other bad side effects, and or safe guards that we should know about? Looking forward to a reply!!!! Thanks , from the happy family
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Mary: I am happy to hear that many ailments were relieved with ACV baking soda.
Are there any warnings that we should be aware of, and if so, what possible remedies for those side effects. This is too good to be true!!!!!
If you have had a pH meter to measure your your urine and saliva, you would be surprised that a large majority of people are way off the optimum health.
One of the most terribly unrecognized deficiencies that is rampant today is what I have called "the buffer deficiency". While we do recognized that a fish aquarium needs pH for them to survived and we therefore monitor the water where fishes lived in, we have never given second thoughts about monitor our urine as also an aquarium by which our cells thrived in. It was first recognized that our blood plasma resemble ancient seawater in many respects, including the pH as well as the major macro minerals.
As such the use of the ACV and buffers required that our urinary pH be in the range of 6.5 - 7.35. The ancient seawater is around the pH of 7.3. However, the diets which we eat, I have found to my surprised averages around 5-6, which is stressful. More acid then this I have found to cause kidney problems as condition acid tends to digest the kidney as well as caused leeching of the calcium, much the same as putting chicken bones in a vinegar.
Since the formula of ACV and baking soda, regardless of how much error you make it either, too sour or too alkaline will cause your urine to go within an ideal or near optimum range, of 6 - 7.5. Which is relatively close.
Taking too much of ACV baking soda will cause you to go to diarrhea, which often corrects itself by lowering such dose is the only side effects I can see.
Often the biggest mistake I have seen from such use is the use of ACV alone, which can result in further bicarbonate or buffer deficiency. Ideally children with ADHD can be truly helped with ACV baking soda. And for ADHD children, the formula, especially the baking soda component seems to improved children's learning in many case. The reason is simple, most children's diets are high in phosphoric acid which tend to cause extremely high salivary pH exceeding 7.5.
The magic of bicarbonate or sodium bicarbonates is that it corrects itself by lowering the acid salivary pH of 7.5 to a more reasonable 7.35 or lower.
The other issue is bicarbonates tend to push up, those with acid urinary pH, causing the body's equilibrium of pH to a near optimum values, allowing sufficient buffers causes the body to function normally.
The problem about the use of ACV baking soda is that it is not perfect, but it is very simple. There are other factors that I have not really taken into consideration, but they are helpful if you do.
One biological terrain that causes us to be healthier is the pH, but one other issue we have always ignored is the ORP, which means Oxidation Reduction Potential. This is a value where your body's optimum condition can only exists in a state of antioxidation, where the values are often expressed as a negative value millivolts. An ORP meters has been in used in agriculture for years to control water, whether to make the water more biologically active for drinking or biologically sterile for distribution.
Many industries do not like to reveal a lot of secrets on this, but it is truly possible to make your body more biological active, by causing your urine to have a more negative ORP. One extremely simple formula that I have devised, while a student of chemistry after doing hundreds of test (I wasn't too bright then) was this:
1/4 teaspoon of baking soda 1/4 teaspoon of ascorbic acid 1/2 glass of water. Taken twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening on an empty stomach.
Allow the fizz to proceed, the resultant reaction is an alkaline form of ascorbic acid with some excess baking soda. The ORP is about between -200 to -300 millivolts. A sick person or a cancer patient might have a positive millivolts of 10, a person with a chemotherapy, or radiation poisoning of 100 to 200 millivolts. When I get sick, my millivolts are low at -20 mv. To get my body back to health I take the above formula to get my urinary ORP to standard health at about -100 to - 150 millivolts.
Of course one of the most difficult aspect of getting a perfect pH that has bothered me was the dose. Our body consumes at LEAST 1/2 teaspoon per day of bicarbonate, without it, we get sick all the time since the body needs a dietary bicarbonates quite often. So the problem about the ACV baking soda is that the dose is often a conservative one, what I called the minimum required daily allowance(RDA) that you need. Exercise and stressful activity you need much more.
The other issue of using it appears to be that pH DOES NOT get near the optimum values I was hoping for. This issue is best resolved, based on analyzing Western Diets that to best raise the pH only to optimum values you need to do the following:
1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid (if you CANNOT find citric acid, the whole lemons will do)plus 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime. This is a very common recipes I give people whom I see where pH is a real problem where buffer deficiency is important. Many ADHD children are often helped with this, but they tend to favor more baking soda with this formula instead, but not conclusive, so here it goes:
1/2 teaspoon of baking soda 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid 1/2 glass of water.
There are many more variations I have played over the years. The most recent ones is based on the idea of a mammalian tissue culture formula, often called mammalian ringer's solution. Of course I have to make major modifications of this in light of Western Diet and I get the following formulas:
1/4 teaspoon of baking soda 1/10 teaspoon of disodium phosphate 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid.
This is only used in rare cases, such as me to raise stubbornly acid urine values to nearer optimum values. Of course there is more formulas I have up my sleeve, but earthclinic is not a place for advanced course in achieving optimum health and it gets too nebulous if I should go further then this!
You should at least know some history of ACV baking soda and how it came about:
Initially, I have recognized since way back around 1971-1973, when I have had a major pneumonia while going on a trip with my parents to San Antonio Texas after traveling from Houston. During that time a pneumonia struck the whole family and I was grounded after the trip. I found my body to be acid forming, after reading about this issue by the famous psychic, Edgar Cayce. I knew that eating sweets caused the fever much worse, so I concluded early on that sweets were acid forming food. Milk made the conditions worse, not with higher fever, but coughing and sniffing.
While Cayce never specifically mentioned the use of baking soda to alkalized his body for stronger immune system, he did mention indirectly on colon balancing, which required salt and bicarbonate. Although this can resulted in diarrhea if given too much, I decided to modify just using baking soda and water, and just removed the salt he recommended for colon balancing.
Much later with the health benefits of ACV I further made some variations of adding ACV plus baking soda, as ACV components have malic acid, and other that can further helped alkalized the body much better. I also had other variations developed later on to solve various problems. So baking soda and ACV is perhaps the most versatile in my opinion due to minerals and the malic acid component.
We want to continue taking this, but we want to be smart about it. We have already noticed that we get very cotton mouthed, and need to drink more water. Want to be well informed and cured of all of our ailments.
Yes, baking soda corrects your body's hydration values. When a person is more alkaline, the capillaries expand filling the body with more water and increasing hydration. This is why you are more cotton mouth. I perspire easier taking baking soda plus citric acid, which is good as it eliminates toxins from my body easier. I have seen people who perspire easy and drink more water to age slower than people who don't.
The way that we take it is very easy. we mix 1 tablespoon of acv with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, 4 drops of unflavored stevia, and 8 0z of fruit punch. 2 times a day.
This is a good dose and ideal dose for ACV and baking soda. And yes, taken two times a day, once before bedtime and once in the morning, preferably on an empty stomach.
Other things that I worry have very much to do with heavy metals, while citrates (baking soda citric acid) do have some capability of removing heavy metals, it is limited and market is lacking in heavy metals test or proper use and control. However, I have found most heavy metals for me come from old faucets and old rusty pipes. Changing to new faucets and proper new pipe fittings will really help.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The dosages you are using are meant for an adult with a serious condition and meant to be slowly sipped over time, not all at once. Generally 1/4 teaspoon baking soda and 1 tablespoon of vinegar plus 1/2 glass of water is the standard dose for most people.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Take a larger dose of vitamin B complex and magnesium should help protect any possible problems from use of of alternative therapies.
An obvious way to reduce calcium is to take baking soda plus citric acid (1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon of citric acid) the citrates will remove calcium by chelation, alkalize the body, and prevents excess serum calcium buildup. Taking magnesium and boron supplements will help stabilize the body's calcium.
Electricity will move various metals and minerals around the body to prevent excess buildup in certain areas but it will just simply move it around, but not remove from your body. Oral EDTA, in the form of disodium EDTA will directly remove the calcium much more efficiently by chelation.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: To make ACV & baking soda more palatable, mix them in a lemon or orange juice to cover the bad taste. It will sometimes cure the ulcer, not cause it, especially if you eat orange peels, and apples quite often. Since ACV have components of apples, then it could help. Orange oil and certain parts of apple such as apple seeds is known to kill helicobacter pylori, causing the ulcers. It has antibiotic powers
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Which brands you choose, the Mother or grocery store ACV, depends on how well your body responds. I have seen people allergic to ACV due to the fact that it is unpasteurized, or that they can be allergic to certain unprocessed foods. I have seen people who responds well to an unpasteurized ACV and some to pasteurized ACV. The only way to settle any argument is your own body is the ultimate judge. Whichever way you go, you still need to add now and then baking soda.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Monika: Taking either apple cider vinegar or regular grocery store vinegar is o.k. for your condition. However, for more serious conditions you may need from time to time organic apple cider vinegar (with the "Mother" in it) as it contains malic acid, vitamins and minerals also.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The body neutralizes the acid to pH of 7.35. If it does pickle you, it would have killed you. To safely take ACV safely, just neutralize the acid by adding some baking soda. The pickle problem won't happen, but the body's buffer could be depleted without the baking soda. It is a common deficiency that the medical establishment has not yet recognized, but it has been known in holistic medicine for at least one hundred years. If you apply vinegar to your skin if you wash it daily, it will cause your skin to be smooth and supple like a baby. Just try it.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Jim: ACV plus baking soda may not help that much, Hiatal hernia that much. You need to take other things too. The issue appears to be the cellular structure is impaired, or the body's collagen system is problematic. So try taking plenty of sodium ascorbate, or ascorbic acid baking soda. It is important to take vitamins that relates to cellular wall structure, such as vitamin B5, and vitamin B8 such as inositol, along with vitamin B complex. So that bacteria don't develop in various pockets which can create a lot of gases through burping, etc. The body needs to have a sufficient immune system so that the food does not spoil from the inside your body. Taking plenty of zinc should help reduce some problem. Glucosamine sulfate, shark's cartilage should also help restore cellular structure as well as chitosan supplements.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Nancy: Arm & Hammer is generally o.k. If you worry about sodium, then take some potassium supplements to balance out the excess sodium. Potassium bicarbonate are relatively hard to find for most consumer, but you should find it easier to get potassium supplements from the drug store easier.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: If you consider taking it for a long time, consider that sometimes your body just need a rest period where it just doesn't want to take anything at all. What traditionally referred to as, fasting. This is the day you just drink water. Ideally a weekly fast where you don't eat all day is ones of the best form of detoxification. Apple cider vinegar has ideally potassium and other minerals anyway, along with baking soda, which has some sodium. So if taking for a long time worries you, the only problem I can see doing this is the imbalance this is having on your body. However, at the moment I see no imbalance produced by this except that you may occasionally need vitamin C now and then since I believe vitamin C to be very important form of antioxidant which both ACV and baking soda lack. I frequently add citric acid and vitamin C to the fray also because of this suspicion. Citric acid is a fairly good chelator of heavy metals from your body, which I think is important if you plan to do it now and then. Lemon juice can be added to your apple cider vinegar as a substitute for citric acid, of course.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Elester: You can reduce your cholesterol by taking plenty of emulsifier rich foods, such as raw or semi cooked liquid yolk as it is rich in lecithin. Or take plenty of granulated lecithin, such as 1 tablespoon with every meal at least. The imbalances sodium created by baking soda can be lessened by adding a small amount of potassium citrate or potassium bicarbonate to the mix, such as 1/8 teaspoon of potassium citrate. Lithium citrate of only 5 mg/day will cause the body to rid of sodium and reduce any sodium retention.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Do both. Gargle and slow sip. A gargle will not go deep down in the throat, but it does a good job cleaning where the gargling occurs. Sipping very slowly every five minutes interval for 5 or 6 times is what I usually do. Baking soda is rather a weak alkaline, a stronger one i used is potassium carbonate, 1/4 teaspoon solution.
Of course I doubt you can find that, so just add a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide, such as 6-12 drops per glass of water along with baking soda. The antiseptic power of baking soda will increase greatly making it more effective. I am doubtful it is that effective against the sore throat when using baking soda alone. Most strep bacteria are quite resistant to both acid and weak alkaline. Therefore adding hydrogen peroxide would kill it more effectively if your alkalinity is relatively weak to begin with.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Kristy: No one has as yet died from baking soda poisoning. It there were you can also die from eating bread, since bread uses baking soda too. Baking soda has always been commercially used to treat heartburn for at least one hundred years. Of course you can kill people with baking soda by giving too much, like giving someone too much water. Yes people also can get killed from drinking too much water. You take everything in moderation is best.
Restless leg syndrome lessens from the metal detoxification effect of the acetate compound. It would have worked better if you add citric acid also.
Does mixing it with vinegar eliminate this danger-if it was a danger to begin with?
The danger is nonexistent. Mixing with vinegar simply helps the body detoxify the toxin tht may also cause the heartburn by allowing better liver function.
2. Regarding vinegar to get rid of moles: is this just for moles that are raised or can it be used on the flat ones, too? And does it get rid of whatever is under the skin that causes them in the first place?
Getting rid of moles using vinegar can do that too, regardless of what they look like. But vinegar might be a bit weak. Add hydrogen peroxide a couple of drops to the moles too or some aspirin on the area. This could kill the moles faster.
3. And, finally, in researching vinegar on the web, I found where someone said that if you mix a little organic vinegar with the kind you get in the grocery store, that a brand like Heinze will revert back to organic in a couple of months.
If you want your Hienz vinegar to be organic, just buy an apple and put the Heinz vinegar in a blender. Voila, organic vinegar. Make just the amount you consume and no more. They are just as close.
Books written 100 years ago have a lot of useful information. Even the Encyclopedia Britannica 1911 edition is more useful than today's edition. For some reason our educational process is now nothing but theories and descriptions. So we are just going back to the future!
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Dawn: First, ACV does not have loss/fat binding properties. It has some fat dissolving properties.
Second, if you are worried about adding baking soda and ACV will reduce this fat dissolving abilities, you can prove it to yourself! Prepare a solution of ACV and try to wipe clean some oily mirror or glass, like you do with Windex window cleaner.
Now try to prepare another ACV plus some baking soda (added slowly!). Now do the same thing by wiping with a cloth of some oily mirror or glass again.
Compare. The results should be close enough for you to conclude.
Finally, it is very likely that the body really have little use of ACV directly since it will neutralize the acid anyway using your body's own buffer! ACV with baking soda has more extensive healing properties then just ACV alone.
As to the high blood pressure issue, it is the problem of eating together both sugar and salt, which causes high blood pressure as well as eating foods high in oils. Lowering the consumption of fried foods using vegetable oils and margarine is a must. Taking some vitamin B3 plus B complex helps more.
As to the issue of breastfeeding, ACV and baking soda are common food we eat if, like we eat them in salads and other foods. One of the most common deficiencies in breastfeeding mothers is usually vitamin D, which mothers are required to take at least 1200 I.U. per day while breastfeeding their children. Mothers who have children often have vitamin C deficiencies, which is why after pregnancy some mothers tend to loose hair or hair starts to fall, therefore vitamin C supplements also helps.
Dawn replies: Ted, baking soda makes the ACV taste better (like an antacid), but in Chemistry class many, many years ago, I learned that acid and baking soda will produce three products, that is, salt, water and carbon dioxide. Does this not mean that the chemical properties of ACV will then be changed with BS, yielding an ineffective weight loss product? I look forward to your guidance on this.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Dawn: Apple cider vinegar has malic acid, so you get a sodium malate. It might have some acetic acid, so reaction results in sodium acetate. In chemistry, when react with a bicarbonate, it becomes a buffer.
If you have issues with adding baking soda, then take ACV alone. I add baking soda to ACV to reduce side effect conditions known as a "burning tongue" or "acid tongue". In severe conditions where the body has insufficient buffer, the tongue will tear and cause to bleed.
ACV is not really well known as a weight loss product, as much as ACV if added with baking soda. Its benefits are actually quite similar.
Your best bet for weight loss is alpha lipoic acid, DHEA, lecithin, and other similar products. I have weight loss within a month to about normal weight just taking DHEA, alpha lipoic acid, and some chromium supplements.
ACV or even ACV baking soda belongs in the same class (family) of chemicals, but with different pH, namely it gets converted from, for example an acetic acid to sodium acetate.
Even if you take it alone without the bicarbonates, your body's bicarbonate will neutralize them to acetate anyway.
The problem about relying on your own body to neutralize it by itself means we are assuming (wrongly) that our body has sufficient bicarbonates in our body.
However, in practice, I have found this not to be true and have seen so many instances of acid tongue, that most people do in fact do not have enough dietary foods with sufficient bicarbonates to neutralize the acid.
Just remember, if your body does nothing to acetic acid, you could simply die, since your blood pH is relatively stable at 7.35 and a change in just a change in /- .5 pH could be more than enough to kill you. An acetic acid or apple cider vinegar's pH is about 3.5 - 4.0
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Usually the formation of uric acid is the result of insufficient buffers in our body. When this happens uric acid forms causing gout. Taking plenty of bicarbonates will neutralize them before they happen. In fact, just alkalizing your urine do reduce the conditions of the gout.
The most convenient form to take baking soda is in a tablet form, often 250 mg. and most pharmacists will call this soda mint or sodamint.
ACV is not convenient and you need to add baking soda. However, you can use citric acid (powdered form) and mix this with baking soda. The resulting solution is sodium citrate, which is also a good buffer. I buy mine without the need to do this reaction buy getting sodium citrate directly and in some cases children do not like to take it mixed in water. So desperate parents put them in gelatin capsules.
It is also a well known fact that lithium bicarbonate/lithium carbonate (5-10 mg/dose) will also dissolve uric acid. However getting them is harder to get and the dose have to be relatively small. Using baking soda, or with addition of ACV or citric acid are much more safer in the long run.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: If you add to a cup, and add the baking soda, the ACV that you will be adding will bubble up and overflow with small bubbles. What I do is add it in an empty pitcher of water (about 2 liters' size) and I used a fork or spoon to help dissipate the bubbles quicker. Then I will pour this into a bottle for later consumption if needed.
If I am adding it to the bottle, how much do I add to a 16oz bottle?
One simpler way without the complicated math is to add ACV first to 14 oz, then add very slowly baking soda until the taste becomes no longer sour. If it is not up to 16 oz, yet, then add the ACV to 16 oz. What I do is I used a pH meter. So everyone will have different ways of doing it. Precision is not important, the issue is for your body to have enough buffer levels first.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Jennifer: Your condition is commonly referred to as the "Acid Tongue". The acid tongue has to do with the problem of your body's imbalances of electrolytes and buffers generally. A long term acidosis could also be a problem of biotin deficiency.
If this DOES happen, your body's buffer is seriously depleted. I have seen this quite often amongst body builders and certain exercise enthusiasts who take high protein supplements.
There are two steps to deal with this fairly common condition:
1. Raise your level of buffer first. Just take baking soda 1/4 teaspoon to 1/2 glass of water x 3 times a day on an empty stomach for about 2 weeks to get it to normal levels. The tongue should be no longer acid on the first week. On the second week, the level of buffer is optimum. Adding a pinch of potassium citrate or potassium might help also. It will balance intercellular and intracellular buffer and acid conditions.
2. Treat your burning tongue by keeping enough sodium bicarbonates solution in the mouth long enough to neutralize the excess acid the body is building up. Do it often enough during the first week and your tongue should be normal by the first week.
3. Consider long term treatment for your acidosis problem by taking some vitamin B complex plus 5-10 mg. of biotin per day for at least a week or so. Just remember that one possible cause for acidosis is biotin deficiency. There are others, but I refrain from putting too much information so I won't confuse you.
On your third or fourth week you can take ACV plus baking soda if you want.
Once you are treated, then you can take on ACV plus baking soda. Pure ACV, might deplete your body's buffer stores too quickly.
For purist, you can take ACV alone, and then take baking soda at separate times. It is your choice. The point is to have enough of the body's buffer and alkaline reserves at a sufficient level.
First, the baking soda. Ted, your contributor from Bangkok, has provided extensive input on the subject of internal usage of baking soda as a way of alkalizing via rebuilding body's bicarbonate reserves, and I would like to share with you some information I found in a wonderful book that I recommend to everyone by Paul Pitchford titled "Healing with Whole Foods," revised ed., 1993, published by North Atlantic Books. On pages 166 and 167, he states;
"...Health stores carry baking powder without aluminum. Even so, baking powder and baking soda both are chemicals which deplete baked goods of the B vitamins thiamine and folic acid. These compounds also create a type of alkalinity in the body that eradicates vitamin C [ref. Kirschmann, J.D. Nutrition Almanac. New York: McGraw-Hill, 1984, p 44] ... An excellent use of baking soda is as a dentifrice. Its highly alkaline properties neutralize plague acids and eliminate the bacteria that cause tooth decay. Even more important, baking soda helps stop the major cause of tooth loss--gum infection and inflammation such as gingivitis and pyorrhea--better than most commercial toothpastes. These traits and its non-abrasive quality make it a safe and effective toothpowder for regular use ... Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) injected in the bloodstream has been a standard treatment since the 1920s to reduce lactic acid in the blood of heart attack patients. However, the July 1989 issue of the American Journal of Medicine reported human experiments that confirmed earlier animal trials involving sodium bicarbonate in the blood: blood flow decreased, the body's oxygen use fell 25%, and lactic acid levels in the blood actually rose. These negative effects also occur to some extent when food which contains baking soda is absorbed into the blood."
Given such negative assertions about the internal use of baking soda, I wonder what Ted's thoughts would be on these matters. I am sure that he, as a biochemist, has seen such negative assertions and it would be nice to share with us his thoughts. Moreover, I wonder what he would think of using Cream of Tartar (potassium bitartrate) instead of baking soda as an internal alkalinizing agent as some health practitioners believe it is an excellent alkalinizer (e.g., see Dr. William Wong's article at www.totalityofbeing.com/ArchivedYeastInfections.html). One obvious benefit of such a switch is that you get more potassium, in which many are deficient, and less sodium which most people already have too much of.
Second, the ACV. My purpose in sharing this information is to highlight the possible downside of over-dependence on ACV. Given the overwhelming positive response about ACV remedies, one may get the false impression that the proper or preferred course of action in addressing many of these problems and disorders is to just load up on ACV and all will be well again. For instance, many of the addressed problems for which ACV is offered as a viable remedy seem to be related to a debilitated liver condition, which is a result of bad diet, wrong food choices, stress, unhealthy life styles, and so forth. I hope that the information I share here would serve as a cautionary note to raise the awareness that ACV may be a viable and effective solution only in the short term for a condition which may need more attention and care than just adding ACV to one's daily diet.
On page 165 of the Paul Pitchford's book, he comments on some of the properties and uses of vinegars:
"Vinegar is warming. It creates a temporary warming circulation of energy (qi) in the body and removes stagnant blood. It can quickly alter emotional stagnation as well, particularly in children -- bad moods will usually disappear a few moments after taking vinegar .. The sour and bitter flavors of vinegar reduce accumulations in the liver and abdomen resulting from rich diet. Lemon juice helps in this manner to some extent but is a cooling and more moderate remedy. People who feel toxic and sluggish during a transition from a refined-food and meat-centered diet to one of whole vegetal foods can profit from a little vinegar or lemon. For this purpose, use 1 teaspoon vinegar or a quarter lemon squeezed in water. This remedy can provide relief while toxins are being released ... Vinegar neutralizes poisons in the body and is good for food poisoning. Take 1/4 teaspoonful every fifteen minutes until relieved. One of the best applications for vinegar is in cases of nausea from eating old foods, overly fermented foods, or too many combinations .. Vinegar relieves damp conditions such as edema, overweight, excess mucus, and athlete's foot ...
But on the same page, he offers the following cautionary comments about vinegar in general:
"Distilled vinegar should not be used internally since it is highly deminerilizing. Quality vinegars for internal use contain more of their own minerals; even so, these are potent and should be used sparingly. The best types of vinegars are organic, naturally brewed, unfiltered and unpasteurized versions of apple cider, (brown) rice wine, white wine, and umeboshi. As a folk remedy in America, apple cider vinegar has been used for many types of disorders [ref. Jarvis D.C. Folk Medicine. Greenwich, CT; Fawcett Crest, 1956 ]. However, when chronic conditions are benefited by vinegar as the sole remedy, one must usually continue to use vinegar, or the condition returns. This leads to a kind of vinegar dependency, which can be overcome if the diet and other pertinent factors in the lifestyle are improved ... Contraindications[emphasis is mine]:weak digestion marked by loose, watery stools; general deficiency (frailty); muscular injury or weakness, including rheumatism."
On page 287, he offers more cautionary notes:
"... Perhaps the most powerful common remedy for quickly removing liver stagnation and the accompanying depression and indigestion is vinegar .. Vinegar should not be relied on indefinitely; the basic diet must be improved instead. Since vinegar is warming, it can worsen the condition of those with heat signs; instead, substitute lemon, lime, or grapefruit, which are also bitter/sour but cooling and more gradually acting."
I hope that these pieces of information would help.
Thanks for upkeeping such a great website, and good luck to you. Regards, Meth
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Meth: In response to your email, you obviously found out that I have been grappling with these issues for some time. Your one single long questions I have to breakdown into three sections, to correct some misunderstandings.
Again most of this information you might find them in your college level Anatomy and Physiology books on digestion and digestive processes. It was a valuable course for me while I was in U.S. while I took this summer school as an elective course. That course was to convinced me that baking soda is not something we should ignore and plays a very important role in our body's biochemical processes. Of course all my other classmates remained unenlightened as they were concerned more about getting A's and B's.
Wouldn't that make ACV ineffective for problems such as indigestion or acid reflux ...?
No, in fact apple cider vinegar with baking soda will often work better in the acid reflux as baking soda is an important component which provides the buffering against excess acid. Apple cider vinegar in itself does help acid reflux by reacting with the body's own reserves of bicarbonate stores to form acetates. It is the acetates from the apple cider vinegar which acts as buffers to protect the acid reflux. However, apple cider vinegar is unlikely to work if the body itself has insufficient bicarbonate stores. As a result, there is no acetates and therefore no buffering, which results in continued acid reflux.
The issue of acid reflux may in fact go deeper than this. Recently a friend of mind had an acid reflux, but I suspect it was the famous bacteria, heliobacter pylori is causing the problem. The reason is simple, in this instance she reported stomach pains in stomach. In this case it was not the issue of acid buffering. The issue was that heliobacter pylori is causing damages in the stomach lining and it is digesting itself causing the acid reflux. As a result, I thought fulvic acid, sodium thiosulfate and clove oil would be useful. As commercialism in U.S. would have it, none can be easily purchased, but the major component that cured my friend was the sodium thiosulfate solution, which apparently kills off the bacteria. As to the reason a simple dechlorinator can kill it, I can't tell you why, just that we just know they die off in its presence. The dechlorinator is found in pet shops for fish aquarium. So get the ones with a sulfur smell and has no coloring, and clearly labels it "sodium thiosulfate". These you can use instead. About 10 drops should reduce the acid reflux due to heliobacter pylori.
On the other hand, I had another acid reflux from a body builder here in Bangkok. After taking apple cider vinegar, there was a huge acid reflux as a result of it. I thought this was serious, as you always know, body builders take an awful lot of protein to build muscles and I checked his urine, which was obviously quite acid and was nearing something like pH of 5.1. Under extreme acidity of urinary pH below 5.5, bicarbonate buffer stores are lacking as most of the protein simply neutralized it. So what I requested was for him to stop for 3 weeks taking of apple cider vinegar and start taking three times a day 1 teaspoon of baking soda (aluminum free of course). In Thailand we have a special aluminum free baking soda in tablet form also which we call them "sodamint" available in most drugstore here in Thailand. Well anyway, he took 1 teaspoon three times per day, mixed in 1/2 glass of water. On the second week his acid reflux is gone. On the third week his health and sickness went away. On the fourth week, he started taking apple cider vinegar in pure form. Then after a week, he complained. I said did you add the baking soda? He said no, which is why his acid reflux came back. So I told him his body has problems with bicarbonate stores and it is BEST that he add them to his ACV. However being a purist as he is, he took it on alternate days. And of course his health went up and down in line where his bad days coincide with the ACV. I am not against the ACV, it is that his body already had insufficient bicarbonate already that was causing the problems. So in the end after a long war, he decided to mix with ACV baking soda. From that time till today, he never complained at all and told me that his health is just perfect, much better than before he had seen me. So the story of this reflux issue is simple: mix your ACV and baking soda. It helps.
it is the acidity of ACV which is a main factor in rectifying these problems by stimulating the liver to release more bile to neutralize this acidity?
It is actually the bicarbonates found in the bile which increases bile secretion. In fact it is the bicarbonates which neutralizes the acidity, not the apple cider vinegar alone. This is why baking soda is so important.
The apple cider provides another kind of buffer which I usually refer to them as acetates - a reaction between acetic acid plus baking soda results in sodium acetate. Sodium acetate is well known in chemistry for use as another kind of pH buffers. Acetates are useful in detoxifying and reducing inflammation.
Another component of the apple cider vinegar is the malic acid and citric acid reacted with sodium bicarbonate will also release another kind of pH buffers such as malates and sodium citrate which are quite helpful in reducing inflammation and chelation (removal from the body) of certain heavy metals, such as free radical metals of aluminum and iron.
This is why the more different kinds of pH buffers your body has, the better it is for you. The issue is that it works best if you add ACV with the sodium bicarbonate. How much sodium bicarbonate you need very much depends on everyone's individual differences. But to be safe, just keep adding the sodium bicarbonate until you reach near the pH of 7.3 which near the pH of your own blood. You don't have to be precise, I just leave it at 7.0 and or I just keep a good range between 6.5 - 7.5 is good enough. Not everyone will have a pH meter and most I expect will just have those pH litmus paper. Therefore these range should be sufficient.
thus helping fat digestion and elimination of more toxins with the bile from the liver?
Fat digestion is actually controlled by acetates (reaction of vinegar plus bicarbonates) and especially lecithin which is found in liquid egg yolk (partially cooked eggs where yolk is still liquid) or lecithin in powdered form. MSM should also help with some fat digestion by causing them to be soluble. The more expensive CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) will also help solubilized the fat by helping out the bile.
However, the main component of the bile is actually the sodium, chloride, water, and bicarbonate and this should go a long way toward improving your bile secretions. Since most of our diets already has plenty of sodium, chloride and water anyway, we should actually be concentrating on the bicarbonates. The simplest form of bicarbonates I can think of that you can easily get in supermarket is of course sodium bicarbonate. Drug stores might have "sodamint" but it must be remembered that certain drug makers have a tendency to add other dangerous chemical to this such as aspartame, and other fillers. Therefore, read the labels carefully. Hopefully this will answer some small part of the question you have in mind.
07/16/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Methuselah: Want to correct some misinformation as follows:
"...Health stores carry baking powder without aluminum.
Many supermarkets and health stores can have both with aluminum and without aluminum. It is best to check directly with manufacturers and their product specifications sheets and can be found available on the internet. However the level they use generally are much lower than the processed foods we eat, especially baked goods which are baked in aluminum containers and other aluminum fillers, aluminum additives (found in non-dairy creamer) and packaging.
So I would be more cautious about "packaged products", non-dairly cremer, fast foods, and prepared cafeteria food of which they are on average much higher than the raw materials which we obtain. The issue is not raw material it is those pots, and pans and other cooking ware and aluminum which are added along the way. You will be surprised to know that anti-perspirants and vaccination are actually the main source of aluminum toxicity in our blood. In certain countries, it is those old aluminum toothpastes with fluorides which adds aluminum to our brains by many factors. Apparently the fluoridated water we often drinks increases the ability for your brain to absorb aluminum and stay their, which is actually the true leading cause of alzheimer.
baking soda both are chemicals which deplete baked goods of the B vitamins thiamine and folic acid.
Baked goods is not recommended as a regular diet at all. They are high on glycemic index and cause diabetes and excess weight gain. That as well as the issue of glycation in foods along with high carbohydrate foods are not recommended for consumption as it leads to acid pH.
The full name is actually thiamine hydrochloride and vitamin C ascorbic acid. Whether with bicarbonate or without the vitamin levels stays the same, but their chemical names get changed. For example, ascorbic vitamin C in presence of bicarbonate becomes sodium ascorbate. It is still vitamin C, but no longer ascorbic acid. We can say that there are no longer ascorbic acid vitamin C in this form, but a vitamin C of an alkaline form. Researchers commonly make this sleight of hand but most biochemist know better. The active form of most vitamins is actually in their pH nearest to the blood. As such ascorbic and thiamine hydrochoride is still there, but they are in another more alkaline form closer to the blood making it more beneficial biochemically speaking.
This is a researcher's sleight of hand trick, I often use this data to fool students. In presence of lactic acids gets unbound from muscles and get into blood more, releasing the lactic acid from the cells and into the blood serum. As a result, lactic acid in blood serum increase, while the uptake of bicarbonate by the cells increased dramatically, causing cellular recovery much quicker from lactate poisoning by the cells. Lactates and lactic acid bound to cells are quite toxic. Tissue cultures cannot survive in presence of lactic acid if it is bound to cells. Ringer's solution do not use lactic acid as a pH buffer. They are toxic. Administration of insufficient bicarbonates will be exactly what the researchers found, but if given sufficient bicarbonates, the original 1920s study stand. I often fool students this way, but the sleight of hand trick we researchers do is the dosage level, and whether they are cellular bound or serum bound.
Moreover, I wonder what he would think of using Cream of Tartar (potassium bitartrate) instead of baking soda as an internal alkalinizing agent as some health practitioners believe it is an excellent alkalinizer.
It would be of terrible mistakes to use potassium bitartrate are actually higher with people who are generally sick. It has everything to do with a defective Kreb's cycle. Autistics and people with CFS would get much sicker taking potassium bitartrate when compared to the baking soda. In fact livestock farmers know as a fact that sodium form is a lot less toxic then their potassium counterpart. Part of the reason why ACV is so popular is its ability to reduce the high bitartrate levels in sick people.
For instance, many of the addressed problems for which ACV is offered as a viable remedy seem to be related to a debilitated liver condition, which is a result of bad diet, wrong food choices, stress, unhealthy life styles, and so forth.
Of course, the causes are many, but the malic acid of the ACV is what detoxifies your liver form all those bad choices you make. Sometimes the bad choices are quite unintentional, so you still need ACV anyway, but they are still no substitute for bad choices.
This remedy can provide relief while toxins are being released ... Vinegar neutralizes poisons in the body and is good for food poisoning. Take 1/4 teaspoonful every fifteen minutes until relieved.
No. Vinegar will neutralize some poison. ACV will neutralize another type of poison and water with a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide will reduce another kind of poison. Lemon has citric acid which will reduce another kind of poison altogether. They don't eliminate every toxins, which is why ACV/vinegar/bicarbonates/ peroxide/citric acid is the preferred longer term solution. And believe it or not you can add them into a single mixture and take that. However, a simplest way not to confuse most novices is to just add ACV bicarbonate. If you want to get really academic with me, add them all up, PLUS the Mammalian Ringer solution also, and with fulvates! When a poisonous snake bit you there is no such thing as a universal antidote for snake venom, of course I would like to see that, but in reality you always need a specific snake serum to neutralized a known snake poison. So if you don't know which snake bit you, you are in trouble.
Contraindications[emphasis is mine]:weak digestion marked by loose, watery stools; general deficiency (frailty); muscular injury or weakness, including rheumatism."
Moderation is everything and there is contraindications for everything regardless of the remedy. Last week a student in college died from drinking too much water. Yes there is also a toxic level for drinking water. The toxic level for salt is about 3,000 gram/kg. in case you want a 50/50 chance of dying from salt.
Summary, some writers of the books on health may have no experience. Nothing works better than a practical hands on experience. So I would give a grain of salt to many comments by the so called health writers. Some who write popular books on health have actually never read a book on health until the publishers gave him a writing contract. The reason why is simple: these popular writers were also popular personalities in entertainment field for example, and getting major sale on such book is easy to understand why the book publishers gave them a major book contract in the first place. Just an example based on my own experience of course.
07/17/2006: Methuselah replies: Greetings Ted: Thank you so much for kindly taking the time to provide such a detailed and enlightening response to my email to Earth Clinic. It is quite rewarding and refreshing to come across experienced researchers who are able to dissect and analyze complex topics with clarity and competence and share them with others. As you pointed out, there are plenty of "research" results, advice and experts on all sides of a subject as simple and mundane as the human diet--several thousand years of human experience and observation, but no clear consensus on many of its topics!
It is abundantly clear that you have been grappling with such issues for quite some time, and I am grateful that you have chosen to share your thoughts and experience with the wider public who badly needs and can use any help they can get. The public here in the U.S. is simply shepherded around like a herd by big commercial interests which are more interested in disinformation and even outright deceit all in the name of "superior" and "scientific" drugs, diets, or food products just to make more profit. I am not optimistic that this situation would change for the better anytime soon, but public forums such as Earth Clinic surely may make a growing dent.
To wrap up my email, I surely like your idea of mixing ACV with baking soda for it seems to eliminate the problem of too much acidity in the stomach and the subsequent constipation, but what would be the price to pay for this gain--i.e., wouldn't that make ACV ineffective for problems such as indigestion or acid reflux because my understanding has been that it is the acidity of ACV which is a main factor in rectifying these problems by stimulating the liver to release more bile to neutralize this acidity, thus helping fat digestion and elimination of more toxins with the bile from the liver? Is mixing of ACV and baking soda only a gain without any loss of benefits?
Thanks again for your insightful thoughts and ideas, and I wish you continued success.
07/18/2006: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Meth: 60% of all surgeries in U.S. are actually unnecessary. (See http://www.newstarget.com/012291.html) Even if the cutting off the legs are justified due to diabetic conditions (bacteria is spreading with excess sugar from the leg as food source) can very easily be cured by drinking 3 times the normal amount of water (with appropriate amounts of sea salt as the antibiotic) and the sugar will be reduced by 1/3 allowing the body to heal itself.
There is little money to be made with salt and water, but much more money can be made by rendering us handicapped for the rest of our life. The idea of free enterprise is one thing many Eastern countries really don't share especially when it comes to human health.
When faced with the choice of surgeries, I have a rule of thumb to get a second opinion from a competitor who is in alternative medicine and if he say yes, then I go to a third opinion who was someone who cured of the problem without surgeries. If not successful I will get fourth opinion who was treated another way or perhaps I have a revelation of my own that I might try out myself until I find that no surgery is needed. And if it gets better, then fine, if not, then surgery maybe the last choice on the list. People do not necessarily make the best opinion, but their opinion will often reflect the best interest of themself, which does not necessarily include you into the equation.
The structure of free enterprise is built on the fact that if you can get (force, coerced, lie, cheat and steal) to pay for it, the more the money. There exists another structure where the government health care (latin america) where profit is built on productivity and longevity and cost is built on maiming people where the government take responsibility bu footing the bill of its people. The present design of our social structure of the day to make us humans disposable and useless like a disposable like baby diapers.
Sorry about the social commentary!
07/19/2006: Meth replies: Dear Ted: I do not know how to thank you for so generously taking the time to provide such a detailed and concise response to my question despite your busy and demanding schedule. I hope that I would be able to return the favor in some way. It certainly clarified many issues and corrected some of my misunderstandings. Probably I have other misunderstandings which I hope your future postings on Earth Clinic forum would correct over time.
I also hope that you would decide to compile and present your research and experience into a book on the biochemistry of body pH as it seems to be one of the most important factors, if not the most important factor, in health and disease prevention. The only popular book that I came across on this topic a few years ago was Your Health Your Choice by Ted Morter, Jr. It was an informative book but not as detailed or recipe oriented. That was where I began to appreciate the role of gall bladder in recycling alkaline material in the body although I had already lost my gall bladder. Had I known that years earlier, I would not have listened to my doctor who just wanted to do the surgery and charge my insurance company over $10,000 even though my symptoms were rather mild and just starting. My doctor insisted that gall bladder is just for bile storage and nothing more, and losing it was no big deal. Such is the nature of medical practice here in U.S. Again, I am sincerely grateful for your help, and wish you continued success and progress. Have a great week. Best Regards
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Marcel: One whole freshly squeezed lemon, add water to 1/2 glass. Keep adding baking soda bit by bit, preferably at 1/4 teaspoon each time until it no longer have bubbles. Your lemon juice should taste like water.
This will have many healing properties quite similar to miracle healing water or sacred healing water found throughout the world. The secret is that these healing water have negative Oxidation Reduction Potential that are often higher than negative -100 millivolts.
The lemon juice mix, will have approximately -140 millivolts and a pH quite close to the pH of the blood at approximately 7.4 while the blood is closer to 7.35.
I would like to take this everyday, but sometimes even lemon can quite expensive here in Thailand, especially when they are a bit off season or the flooding that we are presently experiencing here. It will correct both your urinary pH and urinary ORP to near normal figures.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Mary:
My question is can you take baking soda if you have high blood pressure?
Theoretically yes, in practice maybe not. I can give you sodium to raise your blood pressure, or lower your blood pressure, or given too much to lower it drastically by inducing a loose stool where you will loose water via, the intestines instead of the kidneys, reducing the kidney load.
To raise your blood pressure it is taking salt plus sugar. 1/4 teaspoon of salt 1/4 teaspoon of sugar. Eating food with salt and sugar TOGETHER is not recommended!
To cause your blood pressure to be somewhat in equilibrium, and I haven't really did all detailed measurement, but the figures is based ringer's mammalian solution, is 1/4 sea salt plus less then 1/8 teaspoon baking soda, in 1/2 glass of water, taken only once first and see what effect it does.
To cause the body to reduce the water retention (by loose stool or resolving constipation or internal cleansing) 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt plus one half glass of water. Taken only once.
Sodium plays a dual role. Taking potassium chloride a little bit will displace the sodium also. Such as 1/8 teaspoon of potassium chloride plus 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt, will displace the sodium somewhat. It is important that sodium is added, so that the body does not have a sodium deficiency.
Fungus infection and Acid Reflux. My doctor told me she saw an infection in my kidneys which shocked me because I had just seen a doctor about 3 months prior and was given antibiotics.
Taking antibiotics can cause both fungus infection and acid reflux. While it kills of the bacteria, antibiotics tend to cause accumulation of heavy metals in the kidneys. Heavy metals are a favorite food sources for both nanobacteria, fungus, and mycoplasma. These newer organisms are generally taking advantages of the weaknesses of the present antibiotics. While it kills of the bacteria, it might create new homes for nanobac, fungus and mycoplasma.
When I found I have this what I would do is to add between about 1/8 teaspoon per liter of disodium EDTA to the drinking water you will use this as a drinking water, to remove the heavy metals buildup, thus depriving the fungus of their food sources. Yes I will drink all day with this. The other thing I would do is to take one tablespoon of lecithin with every meal. The lecithin will emulsify the fats, and fats is where the heavy metals tend to hide and also the nanobac and the mycoplasma.
I stopped taking them because I have some serious fungal infections going on. Yeast and on my toenails. I noticed that my urine had an odd smell.
The odd smell usually comes from fungal and or mycoplasma by-products. Take 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/8 teaspoon of citric acid 1/8 teaspoon of powdered ascorbic acid to 1/2 glass of water twice a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime. This will create a pH and Oxidation Reduction potential very unfavorable biological terrain for which they can survive. A nice variation of this is instead of using 1/8 teaspoon of citric acid is to try 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar instead. Some people seem to respond better with apple cider vinegar, but you have to decide this for yourself. Your body knows best.
Antibiotics tend to cause fungal infections due to heavy metals accumulation from taking too much of it. I hope this answers your questions.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Happy to hear that the remedy is helping the digestion, usually it is the issue of acidosis being the major cause, which the remedy was designed that way. My remedy for poison ivy skin rash is to apply as often as possible a 1% hydrogen peroxide solution. It will neutralize the toxins. Sometimes if hydrogen peroxide is nowhere to be found, apple cider vinegar or an ordinary white distilled vinegar can help too. It should be noted that when you use apple cider vinegar to always add it with baking soda, otherwise you might get rash from the body's lack of bicarbonates and pH buffer to neutralize the acid or at least properly metabolize it.
07/06/2012: Pond from Abq, New Mexico, US replies: What about ACV and Sodium Chlorite? Will this create the malate, or something else? I was reading all the MMS stuff on other sites and found this amazingly similar... Wondering how the two therapies differ?
