[YEA]  My 9 year old daughter had strep throat last week. We had had houseguests over the weekend when my daughter had a cold. Turns out that a couple of the children (particularly the ones she was playing with) had strep throat. Her cold was starting to get better and then suddenly she was really sick with strep throat symptoms. I came straight to earth clinic for advice. We tried garlic and cayenne and it worked! Here is what we did:

I gave my daughter 4 oz. of water with 1/4 t. cayenne pepper and 1/4 t. clove powder (for its numbing ability) in a mug. She gargled this 4x a day the first day or two and then once or twice a day for a day or two. (We cut back only because she was so much better. I would continue 4x a day for much longer if needed.) The 4 oz. mug lasted for a couple of garglings. She hated it by the way, but knew it beat going to a doctor and getting an antibiotic.

  • 4x a day I gave her 1 clove of crushed garlic in honey. I did that for several days then just one dose a day for a day or two.
  • She asked to take 1 t. of apple cider vinegar several times a day because she knows it helps a lot. (Hot vinegar tea - 1 T. Vinegar, 1 T. honey and hot water has helped my children with sickness so much and she knows it, but she doesn't like it.)
  • I gave her herbal tea to drink. No soda pop or anything. Sugar is not good for getting better. A couple of times she drank echinachea and peppermint tea with honey in it.
  • For her fever, I would rub peppermint essential oil and/or lemongrass essential oil on the bottoms of her feet. I also put a cool cloth on her head!
  • A wise friend recommended washing toothbrushes as strep can harbor there and reinfect!

Praise the Lord, she showed improvement in 24 hours with this treatment and was about normal after 3 days. I am sure it helped that we caught it early as we had a heads up to expect it.

So grateful for this site and all the good advice. The cure for strep throat cost us less that $2! That is amazing!

Have a great day!

[YEA]  I had recurring strep infections for years. I was looking for the cause of this but doctors just said some people are prone to this bacteria.

Then one doctor mentioned that recurring strep infections are caused by LPR reflux - (see wikipedia LPR)

Basically it means if your tonsils get damaged by stomach acid they are sensitive to be infected -

More symptoms are recurring sinusitis, states like panic attack, coughing, asthma symptoms. When I started looking for more information I learned about the so called "silent reflux" -

Check LPR reflux - eat small portions of food, avoid gluten as much as you can and mostly baked bread because it is hard for the stomach digestion.

Hopefully more doctors get aware of the real cause of this.

Now I get about 1 infection in 3-5 years. Then it was about 3 per year.

Wish you good health!

Funny you should mention bread. I just made spinach and artichoke dip in a French bread "football" bowl. My sinuses were completely inflamed and my throat looked and felt like strep. It turned out it to be viral, but the cayenne pepper and ACV seemed to help a lot. I usually eat gluten-free bread products. I think I got the one-two punch from the dairy on my sinuses and the gluten/white flour on my throat/chest cavity.

[YEA]  I work in a health food store so I hear a lot of home remedies. We also have great products. When someone comes in asking for something for sore throat the first thing I show them is a product by Peaceful Mountain called "Throat Rescue". It is a spray that has ionic silver in it. They have proven that it works better than some antibiotics against strep. I have had people tell me that they gargle with straight apple cider vinegar for a sore throat. I have read that zinc kills viruses on contact and this is why the zinc lozenges are so popular. The cayenne pepper tea mentioned is easier for me to take if I use a liquid cayenne extract instead of the powder. Anything that is marketed to improve the immune system ought to be helpful if you have a sore throat. Some great herbs to have on hand are garlic, goldenseal, echinacea, and andrographis. Most people are not aware of how important the probiotics are for the immune system or how important it is to keep the bowel clean. Also, liver support is so important to our overall health.

[YEA]   This is what we use in our house, too. Peaceful Mountain Collidal Silver. I have a hard time with antibiotics and was very glad to find this the last time I had a case of strep that just wouldn't go away. iherb sells it and I'm never without it now. My daughter just got strep throat and I'm checking the boards to see if there is anything else I can give her to help it clear up any faster.

[YEA]  The last time I had strep throat I went online looking for home remedies and came across using echinacea tincture. You squirt it on the affected area once an hour until you see results.

As full blown as my case was I was really surprised that it worked, and fast. A day later I was completely well. I used a child's brand (Well Child) that was echinacea/elderberry and haven't had the same results with any other brand. Also it knocks any cold right out.

I am suffering from strep throat again and was out of this stuff. The difference is a much more painful and longer healing time. So now the strep has been with me a week. I went and bought more tincture and am squirting away!

[YEA]  I get strep throat just about every time I get sick. So I mince 1-4 cloves of garlic and then swallow, no H2O or honey chaser. I do this at night before I go to bed. If the garlic goes across the sore, then by morning that sore is gone. The down side is you need the garlic applied directly to the sore to be effective, the only way to do this is to swallow one spoonfull at a time lying on your left side, right side, front and back. This can difficult, as it triggers the gag reflex. BUT IT WORKS. Cheers

[YEA]  I came down with an AWFUL sore throat and tried different natural cures such as an ACV, honey & lemon with hot water drink, a salt gargle, and also a gargle with ACV. None of this seemed to really work. I saw someone's comment about 'Garlic Tea' on this site and tried it. They suggested that you put some cloves in water and let it 'steep' all night. I woke up in the morning still feeling awful. I called into work so I could go to the doctor to get checked for Strep since I had no other symptons than my sore throat.

While waiting for my 11:00am appointment I drank my Garlic Tea. It was INSTANT relief. I almost went to work and dodged the doctor but decided that since my pain was so intense prior to the tea, I thought it'd be best to go get checked. Turns out, I did have Strep but the pain is completely, non-existant! I've been drinking garlic tea and it works WONDERS!!! AMAZING!!!!

[YEA]  Hello, Just wanted to say that about two years ago, I had a killer sore throat. I am pretty sure it was the beginning of strep throat ... I had those lovely white spots on the back of my throat. I didn't have health insurance and was desperate for something that worked. A friend of mine recommended eating raw garlic cloves. I did it ... it tasted terrible and made me smell like garlic for days, but it numbed my throat and I was completely better in 3 days. I ate about 3 cloves per day. I tell people about this remedy all the time ... most people are reluctant because of the taste and the smell but it really, really works!

[YEA]  Ok so I have had a slight voice change for the last oh i suppose three days, with no pain no congestion and pretty much healthy feeling despite the fact that i sounded like a chipmunk. I initially thought something like lyeringitis ... but last night I started having a runny nose and a stuffed up head, So I thought decongestant. Well I woke at about four this morning and boy was my sinuses all dried up, so dry in fact that it was uncomfortable. So I made some tea and tried to go back to sleep. well the same situation happened when I woke for the second time. So I got online and looked for sore throat remedies and found this site, well I read that garlic can help with strep and since my little nephew had recently been diagnosed with step I thought I didnt want to take any chances. So i went to the kitchen and melted some butter added some minced garlic cloves, and made some garlic toast. Instantly my sinuses released and my head felt 100% less stuffy. It says to repeat for a couple of days, and I think that I will be greatly satisfied with the result... thanks for the idea ...and the relief!!!

Please help me share this remedy with others. Thank you.

[YEA]  I woke up Monday morning with what I was sure was strep throat. I went to bed Sunday night with a bit of a funny feeling in my throat, then suddenly upon waking Monday morning I could not swallow. Checked my throat and saw the white patches. I don't have health insurance and did not want to spend so much money at the walk-in clinic then on antibiotics. I knew there had to be a better way. I found Earth Clinic a week or so ago and was intrigued by all of the success stories. I read of up on strep throat remedies and decided to give them a try and if there was no improvement in a week, then I would reluctantly go to the walk-in clinic. I compiled many different remedies I found into one "tea". I filled my coffee mug half way full of water and microwaved for two minutes. I then added one clove of garlic that I put through the garlic press and let it steep for 15 minutes.

I then added (I did not do exact measurements, I just eyeballed it) about a 1/4 cup of lemon juice (bottled - did not have fresh lemons)

About a tablespoon or more of ACV,

3 or 4 dashes of cayenne pepper,

1-2 tablespoons of honey

And about a teaspoon of salt. I drank this 3 times Monday and Tuesday and 2 times on Wednesday and also gargled 3x a day with salt water (a couple of times I put a little bit of ACV in with the salt water) and I am ecstatic to report that the strep throat is cured! I always thought that the only way to kill bacteria like strep was with the use of antibiotics. I always had a feeling God put everything here on this earth that we would ever need (natural foods and herbs for health and healing) and now my faith has been confirmed! Thank you so much Earth Clinic and to all of the contributors. I truly think it is a God send! Even though the strep is gone, I think I am left with a sinus infection - going to try the "tomato tea" next and I am actually excited about it.

To Bill from San Fernando, need your expertise, can I substitue zinc gluconate for zinc acetate for strep throat remedy below? Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Deirdre: Not all strains of strep throat can be killed by red pepper. The ones that I have problems with is the streptococcus mutans, which is well inhibited by the use of xylitol. The ones I used is a tiny pinch (zinc acetate) (about 1/32 teaspoon) plus mixed 1/4 teaspoon of xylitol dissolved in 1/4 glass of water, slow slip, 5 minutes apart.

[YEA]  This drink works with colds as well as strep.

  • Water
  • Ginger
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Mint
  • Cinnamon
  • Lemon
  • Honey

Boil ginger in water. You want a strong ginger flavor.

Once the flavor is potent, pour into a cup add a 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, teaspoon of 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, a few mint leaves, squeeze 1/4 lemon and honey to taste.

Let the tea stew for about 5 minutes after mixing. You will have to continue mixing it as you drink but trust me you will feel relief right away. The cinnamon, honey, and mint help with the taste.

Also. If you are lazy, I use Honsei Ginger Tea with Mint. Just boil water add the powder mix to the water and add the other ingredients the same. Same results, better taste. You can also add agave nectar instead of honey.

** I wouldn't try sugar, it seems to have an adverse effect on strep.

Happy recovering!

[YEA]  Strep/Throat Sickness Remedy

1 ginger root
1 fresh lemon
3 tablespoons of cayenne pepper powder

(the above ingredients should be available at your local grocery store for less than $2)

chop the ginger root and lemon into small pieces, boil the ingredients into a pot full of water mixing well.

Gargle some of this mixture every 45 minutes each time swallowing a very small amount. Do this for 1 day, 2 days if problem continues..

I had a bad case of strep throat and no money see a Doctor. So I asked a hippy what to do? Then put his plan into action.. and the strep was gone the next day.

Anti-Biotics are bad for you, always look into natural remedy's first!

[YEA]  I used to suffer from strep throat quite frequently before I switched from antibiotics to home remedies, but since I have severe tonsil problems, even going natural hasn't saved me completely. I still get strep once a year or so. (as opposed to about 5 times a year before).

I have used goldenseal many times to cure my strep throat, it is a wonderful natural antibiotic that can be taken orally or applied topically to the tonsils, as well as gargled. It can be used straight or watered down a bit if the taste is too strong for you. The dosage will vary depending on the strength of the tincture you buy (mine has 800mg in one 0.8 ml dropperful), but a dose of 2-5 dropperfuls 2-3 times a day is usually adequate. It has always worked wonders for me.

It's one downfall is that constant use creates resistance, so it's best not to use it as your go-to antibiotic for everything(it has many uses). Try to cycle through other natural antibiotics to avoid immunity to it. (oil of oregano is a good one for strep as well) As well as temporarily decreasing your body's ability to absorb B vitamins. It's said you should avoid taking supplemental vitamin B at the same time as it will decrease its effectiveness

[YEA]  I live in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, and pretty sure I got strep after a very stressful few days, a trip to the big city and the International Airport being around hundreds of people (where presumably I was exposed to strep), and a night of missed sleep which happened all at once. These same conditions happened to me a year and a half ago, and I received antibiotics in the emergency room which REALLY messed up my digestion and mood although definitely cured me of the strep at that point. That time, I was scared into going to the ER because my gums were inflamed and hurting as well and I was frightened by the possibility of secondary illnesses (and as we know, dental diseases can affect the heart, and strep can have secondary effects on the heart).

Being in the middle of nowhere now, with no way to get to town very soon, this is what I have: paprika (related to cayenne), spicy chili sauce (doesn't say what kind of hot pepper is used), apple cider vinegar, two heads of garlic, and luckily, a pound of goldenseal powder. I took a large dose of goldenseal yesterday and throughout the day today, and am feeling a great deal better. I plan on continuing with the high-dose goldenseal for another week. I encapsulate it and swallow it with an awesome homemade chai with lots of soothing, moistening cinnamon, and lots of pain-relieving clove, which is the only thing I feel like drinking right now. I feel confident that I can properly treat my case of strep with herbs this time. No need for me to be scared. I am about to go try gargling with the paprika and maaaaybe the spicy chili sauce diluted with warm water... Oh, and the first thing I did was gargle with hydrogen peroxide and that took the pain down to 50% for maybe an hour. Thanks everybody for sharing your experiences.
