Cure a Sinus Infection with Natural Remedies: Q&A

Mom Has Had Sinus Infection for Over a Year

10/10/2008: NR : Ted, I am starting to run out of ideas. My mom has had a sinus infection for over a year now, as well as acid reflux. I don%u02BCt know if one is causing the other or vice/versa. They did surgery to clean out her sinuses which gave her relief for a short while but it has come back. I have convinced her to give up all of the foods she eats which I imagine but don%u02BCt know were not all that healthy. She is currently eating homemade chicken soup which I think is primarily broth chicken and rice. I live in Colorado and she lives in Ohio here in the states so I am doing the best I can from afar. I have gotten her to start drinking ACV and baking soda twice a day. I have ordered her food grade h2o2 which hasn%u02BCt arrived yet. She has also started to take probiotics, but the doctors have her on antibiotics. I have convinced her to use h2o2 in her lavage with water and salt. Lately she is having issues with waking up and not being able to breath. Also when she gets in a coughing fit she has trouble breathing after that as well. I am worried at some point she is not going to be able to recover and breath. I know you have tons of emails but I would really appreciate it if you could respond as soon as possible. Thank you so much.

10/10/2008: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Most of the breathing problems when people are on antibiotics are that it causes worsening of breathing because antibiotics are made from fungus, tends to worsen sinus problems. Fungus are grown an in large amounts in carpeting area, poor ventilation, moist environment and even in humid sticky condition. Sticky is a good clue, fungus are hygroscopic in nature and attracts moisture but also creates bacterial growth. A simple remedy is to kill the fungus. The best antifungal remedy I have been using for quite sometime, if you can find it is as follows:

    10% pure xylitol powder
10% ammonium chloride (or a better ammonium bicarbonate)
10% Milk of Magnesia solution (which is actually a 5% percent Magnesium hydroxide,
with water. No aluminum should be added. So get the ones without aluminum
              and  no aspartame)
add the rest 70% with water, and use a pump spray.

The kind you use to water the nice decorative plants, and put the settings on mist. Spray the entire house and breathe in this solution or some parts of the mist once to three times a day as desired. This will clear up the fungus and restore or at least freshen the entire room within a matter of minutes. The mist or solution if it goes into the breathing passages kills the bacteria, but mostly fungus. This is the one I actually used too to help with the breathing problem. Sometimes, but not always a drop of peppermint in the tongue, or a drop of clove oil in a glass of water well stirred and drank can also help with the breathing sometimes actually killing the virus. Depending on whether this breathing is fungus or virus does matter. So far I am assuming the fungus argument. If it was a virus argument a 600 mg lysine is taken every hour for a total of 4 to 6 times a day needed to restore the breathing. On the other hand if just bad sinus throughout the day, the dose can be spaced more such as every 2-4 hours depending on the seriousness of the virus that is blocking the breating passages.

Constipation can lead to toxin overload and block breathing just the same. so if constipation is encountered frequently potassium is used, but also magnesium to restore normal breathing patterns allowing the muscles to relax instead of tightening which occurs frequently in people with serious breathing problem in sleep, not related to sinus issues too. Magnesium chloride, magnesium gluconate, or magnesium citratte 250-500 mg, WITHOUT caclium is preferably used, by chewing then drinking 1/2 or 1 glass of water, whichever is most confortable and least problem. Potassium citrate 1/8 teaspoon plus baking soda 1/2 teaspoon in 1/2 glass of water or 1 glass of water twice a day will help restore normal bowel movement and reduce the constipation. Once the constipation is removed, toxin buildup is reduced and the body's immune system are up and hence the sinus infection is reduced.

Another formula to help alkalize and remove excessive calcium which blocks normal circulation, which is also food for fungus is 2 tablespoon of lime juice, plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda taken anywhere between two to three times a day.

Excessive mucus can lead to blocked breathing and N Acetyl Cysteine 100-250 mg for example is taken to help liquefy the mucus so it won't block the breathing passages. Often hard mucus, especially from decongestants can blocked breathing passages.

I have recently found that even without sinus problem in breathing a hypoxia condition can be created if certain manufacturers secretly add monosodium glutamate (MSG) in various names such as hydrolyzed vegetable proteins, etc. and especially so for aspartame which creates high blood methanol, which converts to formaldehyde with further oxidation in the body, creating blood clots and hypoxia, a rather shocking condition that I can almost called emergency. A very quick remedy to restore blood clot and hypoxia, quickly which occurs during the night is aspirin, but for me the time it takes to restore that takes anywhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour. Interestingly, I have noted that sickiness of blood platelets relates to varicose veins and hypoxia condition, where a small pinch sprinkled with disodium EDTA with 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda, in a 1/2 glass of water will restore this hypoxia condition much faster, and is helped within 30 minutes. I have noted that there is a link of certain additives, the ones I did found was the aspartame hidden in many supplements, especially those that require being dissolve in the glass of water, the common ones are N Acetyl Cystine, Vitamin C, liquid vitamin, children's multivitamins, chewables, for example. Even worse is how tricky you need to find where the ingredients is hidden. Manufacturers employ some tricks, hide them in the white papers that is found in a box of medicine, which mentions side effects, contradindications, details of y ouse as well as details of the more inert ingredient.

Even worse off is certain nice tasting ones that shouldn't taste sweet unless they added some sweetners. In that case I had to call the factory to find the sweetners was in fact aspartame. Aspartame causes metabolic acidosis which causes hypoxia.

The other ingredients the manufacturing keeps adding more is propylene glycol. In high amounts from accidental poisoning where a person thought it was maple syrup can lead to death, but in smaller amounts leads to hypoxia, because of metabolic acidosis. Regular use of even hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon exposure for example, can lead to metabolic acidosis which leads to hypoxia too.

Perhaps the best way to kill bacteria, fungus to solve the problem of sinus infection is to buy an ozone generator. An ozone generator I purchased from aquarium shops for fishes and I used a larger model. Depending on the brand and concentration, the ozone should be pungent or strong enough to be noticed. When it gets too pungent the machine is turned off, often it is opened or turned on between 5-30 minutes depending on actual use where the user decides. Ozone will kill bacteria and fungus directly by just breathing.

Finally and most importantly is the vitamin C. I recalled my own father once had sinus problems throughout his life and even radiation therapy using radioactive radium didn't help. Until one of the patients who had a long standing sinus problem mentioned eating plenty of vitamin C for a month will cure the sinus. Within a month or so, the sinus problem was cured. It cured I think was because the nitric oxide supported by vitamin C help raise the immune system. The dose, which seems to work best in powdered form, or maybe tablet form without calcium (seems to interfere with absorption and bioavailability) about 1000-5000 mg a day, and is chewed and drink plenty of water for a period of at least a month should also help with the sinus infection too. The other issue is the fungus problem created by carpets and bad circulated air where I used the solution of ammonium chloride, and milk of magnesia for example to kill off the fungus and freshen the air as well as to clear breathing passages. If recent operation was initiated, maybe wounds have not healed, in that case regeneration is needed and I would take a daily diet of aloe vera juice or drinks with plenty of water will also help.

One more interesting fact is that milk, and most milk products such as yogurt, toasted bread is an anti nutrient. The milk protein casein renders the supplements completely useless fo the entire day. This is why milk and burned toast is so popular in poisoning case. The milk protein just covers the entire food or supplements, as are the calcium they also add in supplements and this prevents supplements from working. To round off everything besides just fungus, virus, ozone, magnesium, potassium, avoiding milk, and avoiding potatoes for example, I might take amino acid supplements, B complex and vitamin E (once every three or four days at 200 i.u.) to give more energy.

I am sure I haven't covered everything, I'm always forgetful. But in case you run out of ideas, I would try hair mineral analysis, which may reveal toxic metal poisoning, or mineral deficiency. pH meters can even be really revealing. For example, if pH of the saliva is below 7 for example, the entire respiratory system is acid causing a fertile grown for infections. To raise the pH along the respiratory system, is the mentioned potassium citrate or potassium bicarbonate, along with the other magnesium and sodium bicarbonate to keep it in normal balance. However, it is the potassium that will cause the respiratory system to be in alkaline state and this will u usually be reflected by the salivary pH.

05/31/2013: Barbara from So. Florida, USA replies: Ted, would it be all right to apply this solution directly into the sinuses using a nasal douche or sinus rinse bottle?

10% pure xylitol powder
10% ammonium chloride (ammonium bicarbonate)
10% Milk of Magnesia solution
70% filtered boiled water

2 Year Old with Cough and Upper Respiratory Infection

11/28/2007: Mike : Hi Ted, I know you must be bombarded with questions and I appreciate the time you set aside to provide answers. I was hoping you can help me with the health of my two year old child. She has been on antibiotics for the past four weeks for a mild ear infection, sinus infection and most recently for a skin irritation that the doctor thought might be infected. We decided enough is enough and have been treating the skin with essential oils, specifically tea tree oil and lavender. So far, she is making inconsistent progress. It looks much better but some days seem worse than others. The current problem is that she has congestion once again and has seemed to develop a cough that is intermittent. I can tell she has sinus congestion and a nasal drip. The phlegm seems to be slightly green that she coughed up this morning. I'm worried that we may dealing with yet another upper respiratory infection. My course of action for the past day has been fresh green juice in the morning (kale, celery, lemon, spinach, dandelion, apple, garlic and apple cider vinegar). I also give the baby probiotics and cod liver oil all in the hope that I am strengthening her immune system. I am seeking your advice because we no longer want to give her antibiotics for every mild infection yet are worried these things can develop into something worse. Any advice/remedies you can provide are greatly appreciated. Our current concern is the cough/upper respiratory infection. Thanks, Mike

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Mike:

A simple small pinch of xylitol or a xylitol powder 10% used as a nasal spray, or xylitol taken in the mouth will reduce some infection. Someone at the moment is already marketing xylitol used against ear infection of the child.

It should be noted that getting the body alkalized is an important one to get the body to recover. A small child on basis of weight may need only 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/4 glass of water to alkalize the body. Or a more tasty remedy of 1/2 tablespoon of lemon juice plus 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/4 glass of water taken two or three times a day. Once the body is alkalized, the body's immune system should be sufficiently lifted and respond better to the other essential oil remedies.

Some zinc gluconate might be needed but for a child about 12 mg of it or 1/4 dose of human adult of 50 mg zinc gluconate should be sufficient for a couple of days and then stop.

Sinus congestion for children I found most helpful is the N Acetyl Cysteine, about 25-50 mg. and this will cause the mucus to be quite watery, but will help restore liver function too.

Vitamin C sodium ascorbate can also be helpful but perhaps just 50 mg should be sufficient.

08/22/2007: Rasika from Raskia, Cuticorin, Tamilnadu, India: I have been suffering from sinus for the past 3 yrs. I have been operated for tonsil & sinus. I have taken many medicines ,treatements like english medicine, homeobathy, siddha medicine.but I didn't cure from this treatement. I have a severe headache daily, mainly in the morning. It gives me irritating, anger ,crying, I can't overcome this pain. If I was exposed to the cold weather, I can't breathe well and in the morning I have bad breathe. totally I can't breathe I feel as one side of the nose had been blocked. I too have a small tissue inside my nose after my operation. Everyone tells me to do yoga, I have learned it. tell me whether meditation cures me. Tell me what can I to overcome my headache.

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Normally the best remedy for a severe headaches related to sinus infection is simply vitamin C sodium ascorbate or vitamin C rose hips which I found I had to take between 1000 mg to 1500 mg taken at 3 times a day. It usually goes away the next day for long term migraines, but for a peculiarly severe one it takes about two to three week. If that is taken for about a month's period up to 2 months the sinus problems goes away.

A sinus problem in one case I found lasting at least a decade and went away when when they took plenty of vitamin C for about a month or two and never came back.

The other supportive remedies is the vitamin A, but those are taken 2 or 3 times a week, some vitamin E 1000 i.u. to 2000 i.u. 2 or 3 times a week also, at least for the sinus problem.

Sinus headaches are best handled mostly with vitamin C, but equally important are the electrolytes, especially magnesium and some potassium. The dosage for magnesium usually in form of mangnesium citrate is about 250 mg per day for 5 days out of a week.

The mention of bad breath is usually an indication of acidosis, which lowers the body's immunity condition resulting in both headaches and sinus problem, and hence a lime remedy such as 2 tablespoon of lime juice plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water taken two times a day should raise the urinary pH to about 7. If the pH urine is kept at least neutral instead of being acid all the time or take more or less necessary to get the pH, then the problem should disappear within a month.

3% Hydrogen Peroxide Caused Burning

08/22/2007: Lori : Hi Ted, I have a severe sinus infection from either a cold or other allergy. It has moved from my head to my chest. I coughed so much yesterday my ribs now hurt. I am taking the following Presription & OTC Remedies; Thyrolar 2grain (for severe hypothyroidism); Excedrin (1 Tablet 1 or 2 times daily as aspirin with caffiene); Percogesic (2 tablets 1 or 2 times day for pain in ribs); Mucinex 400mg (2 Tablets every 8 hours) to keep congestion broken up. I am also taking the following homeopathic remedies; Lime Juice, Baking Soda, Asorbic Acid, along with 4 drops Deionized Iodine (for Thyroid) 1 time daily (in the morning on an empty stomach); ACV w/honey (2 times daily); Turmeric 720mg (2 tablets 1 time daily); Zinc 25mg (2 tablets 1 time daily); Potassium 100mg (1 time daily); Magnesium Orate 500mg (2 tablets 1 time daily with Potassium & Zinc); Selenium 100mcg (1 tablet 1 time daily for Thyroid); also taking 1 capsule Organic Bovine Adrenal for Adrenal's support due to Hypothyroidism. I am still suffering from the congestion and coughing, so last night I decided to try the Inhaling Hydrogen Peroxide. I emptied a Saline Spray Bottle and filled it with 3% Peroxide (no additives) and used it. The first spray caused my nose to burn, my eyes to water and I started sneezing. I blew my nose and clear mucous came out. I continued to inhale 3 or 4 more times, each time it burned severly. About 7 hours later I tried it again, still severe burning in nose. I awoke this morning with the right side of my nostril bleeding (it has since stopped). I have not tried to use the Peroxide again. Do I need to dilute the 3% Peroxide to stop the burning, or what other treatments would you recommend I try? Thank you, Lori

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The single most common mistakes of people using Hydrogen peroxide to deal with sinus infection is to use a 3% solution which is A SERIOUS MISTAKE THAT could result in nose bleeding. The concentration is way too high and must be diluted with water.

Also some small amount of salt is also needed to be added, where the taste should equal to normal salinity of the mucus so a rough estimate is about between 1%-3% at , which happens is close to sea water concentration also.

There are two ways of use, the use as a nose drop or the use as an inhalant. Inhalant is breathed through the mouth but as a nose drop the general requirements are different. Even if used as a humidifier or whatever, the preferred concentration should stand at 1% while as a nose drop it should never exceed 0.5%.

As to the H2O2 concentration, even when I used a dog mange I make sure the solution is NEVER exceeds 1% solution. In case of a sinus infection where the peroxide solution is used the concentration is always 0.5% never 3%!!! It is six times my maximum dose!

To prepare a 0.5% solution, where the bottle 3% H2O2 is about 30 cc, the math is to know how much water is added is :

Where C1 is Beginning Concentration 3% H2O2 or .03 Where Amt1 is Beginning cc (milliliter) 30 cc Where C2 is the desired concentration 0.5% or .005

We plug into the equation:

((C1*Amt1)/C2) - Amt1 = Amount of Water to add

((.03*30)/.005) - 30 = 150 cc

To check wether this formula is correct or not:

A 150 cc water plus original solution of H2O2 had 29.1 cc of water ((100%-3%) of 30 cc = 29.1 of water) So the amount of water is 150 29.1 = 179.1 cc Pure H2O2 has about .03*30 = 0.9 cc of 100% H2O2.

Therefore the ending concentration expressed as % is 0.9 cc/(179.1 cc) x 100 = .50%, which is close enough!

Some have refuted me on the above formulas, that it is incorrect, but it checks out anyway.

I would therefore assume that the small bottle are 30 cc's or milliliter, but in case there are other measurements the formula mentioned here still applies. That 150 cc of water is needed to be added to the 3% H2O2 30 cc concentration to get the final 180 cc of 0.5% H2O2 concentration.

1.5% H2O2 will lead to skin inflammation the dividing zone although I suspect skin inflammation starts whenever H2O2 concentration exceeds 1.4% to be even more precise. However a rough estimates of using H2O2 is 1.5% and above is where H2O2 concentration is too high, would generally be sufficient for most purposes.

Therefore the maximum concentration for external use is calculated to be 1%, while a maximum concentration for internal use is 0.5% limit. At this concentration the problem should not exist from such use. Hospitals used 3% for external application and not for internal one, so their use is somewhat too strong in my opinion since I used half that for external purposes at 1.5% concentration.

As to general sinus problems, a vitamin C of 1000 to 1500 mg x 3 times a day taken for a month, plus twice a week vitamin A, and D should reduce the sinus problem within a month. Zinc and magnesium were also found to be supportive.

However, if the sinus condition is severe, I have found BHT supplements to be useful and that required anywhere between only one single dose or three dose (or 3 days at one dose per day) needed to stop the sinus problem, where common dose is estimated to be between 250 to 500 mg. per dose per day.

10 Year Old with Chronic Sinus Infections

07/18/2007: Desparate Mom from Alabama: First of all, I am amazed at all the positives about ACV. I came across your site in hopes of find an alternative to my daughter's sinus problems. She has had severe sinus problems for nearly 5 years, not mention a lot of allergies especially to foods. She is now 10. At least once a year she gets a bad infection that keeps her out of school for a week. But this time it has snuck up on us early, a week before a big planned vacation before returning to school. To tell you the truth I am weary about giving it too her but more importantly I have read several different amounts to give a child. So could you please tell me the exact amount I need to give her and for how long ( can I give it too her daily for a while ) and does it need to also have baking soda. Diluted or undiluted with water? Thank you for your time, Desperate Mom in Alabama ( I would like to take the vacation that is planned.

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Desperate Mom: First of all Apple cider vinegar doses are different depending on the weight of the child. An adult does is pretty much the same, since he no longer grows bigger. Assuming simply that a 100 pound person (just to keep things simple) takes 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda twice a day in 1/2 glass of water. Therefore if a child's weight is 50 pounds then he will like take 1/2 of everything, which means 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar plus 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/4 glass of water, also taken twice a day. The calculation depends on the weight of the child.

On the other hand if an adult who is very large, it is likely that he will need twice the dose of a simple 100 pound person, so it works the other way around also. I prefer also to take some vitamin C sodium ascorbate since I have found them to be quite helpful with the sinus problem, the dose for a typical adult is 1000 mg. per day and thus a child's dose is likely calculated on the basis of weight, which if it is 1/2 the weight of a 100 pound (small build) then it could be 500 mg or less. I find rose hips and sodium ascorbate (with plenty of water) to be helpful. There are other powerful remedies against the sinus, but apple cider vinegar and baking soda in general are quite safe. They should preferably taken on an empty stomach once in the morning and one before bedtime.

While a child may like the fizz, some children DO NOT like the smell of the apple cider vinegar. In that case another alternative remedy may be more appealing in taste such as lime (or lemon) and baking soda, which has a better alkalizing effect from the citrates. The remedy for a typical adult is 8 teaspoon of freshly squeezed lime juice plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water, also taken twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. A child's dose therefore is taken on calculated weight of a typical small adult of 100 pound. So if a small child's weight is 33 pounds, then it will be likely to be 1/3 of the dose of a typical adult (small size).

The reason why apple cider vinegar and baking soda works is it is an antioxidant, just like lemon, in it is alkalizing and its oxidation reduction potential is strongly negative, which means it is an antioxidant. Acidic solution is an oxidant, at least initially and hence the need to neutralize the acid to an alkaline solution, which works best in the long run then if apple cider vinegar is taken alone.

It must be noted that apple cider vinegar with baking soda IS ALWAYS diluted with water, to neutralize excesses of acidity and reduce the concentration of the solution to minimize any negative side effects from a highly concentrated solution. It has been my experience that apple cider vinegar works best with baking soda mixed with water. It is also the same that a typical lemon works best with baking soda mixed with water also. The potassium content in apple cider vinegar and the lemon, with the sodium alkalinity component added allows for the body to typically achieve a good sodium and potassium balance. The body's extracellular fluids are typically 90% sodium, but most of the problem is very much due to not the sodium, but the pH which modern nutrition fails to consider, but in aquarium fish tanks, like a human body, a pH is an important way to monitor the health of the fishes in an fish tank, and hence, it is possible to ascertain the health of an individual by seeing whether the urinary pH is in the alkalinity range of 7.0, as well as the salivary pH. If not, correcting the pH will correct many health problem not just the sinus. Ted

2 Year Old with 8 Month Long Sinus Infection

07/14/2007: Y : Dear Ted, I feel very frustrated about my daughter's sinus problem. My daughter, now aged 25 months old, has been suffering from sinus infection since last Dec and was put on antibiotics for 6 weeks. After the treatment, she was fine but only for a month. Then, her nose started runny and stuffy again. An x ray result shows that she still has sinus infection. Her doctor put her on another two courses of antibiotics, each lasting for 14 days. She is now on the 10th day of the first course of treatment. I really don't want to give her more antibiotics as I don't think antibiotics does help solve the problem and I'm afraid one day her body will become antibiotics resistance. I came across your website and after reading many positive responses about drinking ACV, hope for the best that this will work for my daughter. I have a few questions: 1. Is ACV suitable for my daughter who is only 25 months old? 2. If she can take AVC, how much do you recommend her to take everyday and for how long? 3. Can she take AVC while on antibiotics or should we wait until she finishes these two courses of antibiotics treatment? 4. Can you inhale the steam of ACV? Thanks for your answers.

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Dear Y:

1. Is ACV suitable for my daughter who is only 25 months old?

Simply put, a child dose is calculated on the basis on their weight relative to an adult dose. Assuming a 100 pound person taking 2 tablespoon of ACV plus 1/4 teaspoon in 1/2 glass of water, the dose of a child of 25 pounds is 1/4 of the entire dose, taken twice a day. This is how scientist calculate dose of tiny mice on the basis of their weight. It is the same with a dose of a child.

2. If she can take AVC, how much do you recommend her to take everyday and for how long?

Usually about 4 weeks but improvement should be seen on the 2nd or 3rd week.

3. Can she take ACC while on antibiotics or should we wait until she finishes these two courses of antibiotics treatment?

Antibiotics worsens the body as they cause acidosis and antibiotics causes retention of heavy metals, which may impair brain development due to increases in heavy metals. In my opinion, antibiotics are generally too strong for a child and an allergic reaction is quite possible if taken for more than 4 days. They should taken only when absolutely necessary.

I would prefer that 100 mg dose of vitamin C sodium ascorbate or rose hips taken twice a day for a child dose, since an adult dose is 1000 mg if we assuming the child is 1/10 of the weight of an adult. Those taken for 5 days out a week for a month's period generally may help reduce sinus problem.

Of course some vitamin E and vitamin A given once a week (or twice a week) and some lecithin, all at 1/10 of an adult dose I think should be sufficient. So in event vitamin E adult dose is 1000 i.u., a child should be closer to 100 i.u. My observations are free fatty acids and rancid oils may also initiate sinus problem based on my observations of people eating rancid oils with heat (reused cooking oil) caused sinus problems.

4. Can you inhale the steam of ACV?

Pure ACV or plain distilled vinegar can be used on a humidifier rather than heat since heat may destroy ACV or alter them due to heat. For me I much prefer the use of aerosols, or pump spray with a white distilled vinegar, since the ACV organic by products may clog the pump spray. However, a eucalyptus oil spray 100% is used in an aerosol is better in clearing the breathing passages.

Swelling in Maxillary Sinus and Lymph Node

12/05/2006: Amber from Martinsburg, PA: I stumbled upon your website last night and couldn't stop reading it. It's the best! About 2 months ago I went off of my anti-anxiety/depression med. and it seemed to throw my body into a medical mess. I have had every cold or flu that's come my way. Most recently I had a seriously bad sinus infection, I wound up in the ER because we didn't know what was wrong with me. I had sinus x-ray's and they came back normal. But the CT scan revealed that I had terrible swelling behind my eyes. The doctor prescribed Ciprofloxan and Prednisone. I took the Cipro but not the prednisone. My symptoms seem to have all gone away except the swelling of my (left) maxillary sinus area and my lymph node directly behind my left ear and it is still causing me a great deal of pain. Earache, neckache, head and face aches. Any suggestions as to what I can take to help the swelling go down naturally? I refuse to take the prednisone unless I absolutely must. I would appreciate any suggestions or helpful answers anyone would have for my problem.

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: There are many natural therapy that can reduce swelling, however they work differently. In even of emergency get a lavender oil and apply lightly to the face region and neck region. It will reduce the inflammation. Smelling camphor will also help. Eucalyptus oils are hard to predict, but it does help the sinus problem by killing the fungus in the sinus areas. If lavender oil is not available, then I would use peppermint applied to the face lightly and neck region it is anti inflammatory too.

In general alkalizing diets, in your case you seem to need more than most, so try a bit higher dose of 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon of citric acid taken twice a day and add 1/2 glass of water on an empty stomach. This will help build the body's immune system against the infection.

Stay away from bread, sugar, milk, drinks and fried foods while the infection or swelling is at bay. A green tea is a possibility in reducing some swelling as it is diuretic, but weakly. If you are in a hurry to reduce the swelling this can be stopped within minutes based on my own experience, by just getting a diarrhea or a "pull edema" (as opposed to the currently popular "push edema" used by putting the water up against you!) The remedy is to take as prescribed per bottle Milk of Magnesia, which must contain only magnesium hydroxide and water. Peppermint oil added is o.k., but nothing else. There must be no aluminum in the ingredients as it is risky. Ted

Questions About Vit C, Fungus, Candida

Anonymous : 1. How much vitamin C. I now take 4000 mg per day (1000 mg 4 times a day) and have for years.

2. if I mix colloidal silver and tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil, do I drink it or apply it to sinus area or how do I use this? If I drink it, How much? I've been drinking just plain 60ppm Colloidal Silver 3 tblsp 2 times a day for several weeks now. I can't say that I've noticed any difference.

3. I do believe my sinus problem is fungus related. I have candida overgrowth and when I eat carbs, my sinuses get worse immediately. I use ozone to clean up the carpets and bad air, so would any of these remedies be preferred for fungus? I like the vinegar idea and will buy some to try. Thank you again for taking your time to answer my email.

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: 1. Vitamin C dosages you mentioned are O.K.

2. Colloidal silver, diluted tea tree and eucalyptus oil can be diluted an apply to sinus area. I have seen people do that.

Drinking that amount will not get any noticeable differences means your colloidal silver is yellow in color and not clear white and the dosage is not that much. But this is a small point. If it doesn't work, it implies that your sinus is not virus related. Yours might be fungus related. So you might just apply for sinus area is enough.

3. Yes, it would appear it is fungus related. If you have a candida you need a stronger medicine than colloidal silver. Many who have candida do have sinus problems later on. This might mean you had candida for some time, but not aware of it.

The most effective substances against candida that is anti-fungal is oregano oil, tea tree oil, thyme oil and lemongrass oil. You need to take it much more aggressively. I have no trouble taking them directly and it is very hot.

However, I am sure you could NEVER take them directly. Therefore the dosage is to take as much as possible 3 times a day. The strongest candida tested in vitro is wild oregano oil. However, prefer to add 2 drops oregano, 2 drops tea tree oil, and 2 drop thyme oil.

You may have to mix all these in water so it doesn't burn your tongue! This is an aggressive way to treat them. Fungus are the most stubborn to kill but is possible to destroy using the recommendations as research been shown this is the most effective substances known.

4. Yes, fumigate vinegar in air would help eliminate airborne fungus. While you are added mix in 1%-2% H2O2. Vinegar and H2O2 will not neutralize, it will combine into a yet more powerful, but relatively safe chemical (called peroxyacetic acid). You will feel the air is clean after fumigation.

Based on my recent experiments, it would really be helpful if you take sodium bicarbonate (1-2 teaspoon) every evening before you go to bed mixed with about 3/4 full glass of water. I think about 2-3 weeks would be enough. Of course if you are weak, or muscles aches, then you might do it again. This will be helpful in detoxification as well as put the body's alkalinity discouraging fungus growth.

Avoid taking too much fruit juice. Avoid completely milk and dairy products and try for gluten free diets. Certain sugars seems to encourage fungus growth. This is especially true if you have candida. If you do have candida consider drinking water with food grade H2O2 at 0.5% concentration regularly. It seems to work in detoxification and clears the liver of toxins. Helps with overall recovery, but not directly the sinuses.

Hope the information helps.
