06/25/2013: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: I'm not much for snake grass and kidney disease. What is significant that I have direct experience with is astragalus membranaceus extract 1000 mg and gum arabic mixed in water with a blender: 7 to 10 grams gum arabic and about 250 cc of water. The problem is dissolving the gum arabic and so it may need more water. What this does is reduce the blood sugar and blood pressure, while it improves creatinine and other kidney parameters. The top three reasons why there is a kidney failure is 1 diabetes, 2 high blood pressure and 3 pain killers. Pain killers cause kidney damage. Recently I found that antibiotic use may cause kidney damage too, and pH below 5.5 and above 7.5. Once you understand the causes, then the situation becomes controllable.
06/26/2013: N replies: My kidneys were probably damaged at an early age (cause unknown) as protein was found in urine at the age of 13 yrs. Nothing was done at that time. I do not have diabetes but have high blood pressure. I do not take any medicine to control high BP. I am totally against allopathic drugs (other than trauma or emergency).
How much and how often of the Astragalus/Arabic gum concoction do I take each day?"
07/02/2013: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "The cause of high blood pressure, usually (though it may not apply to you), is past accumulation of high fruit intake (fructose, eg. honey), fried foods (french fries, potato chips), and chocolates due to its high cadmium levels. Chocolates are notoriously high in cadmium, some is in coffee (haven't quite measured most coffee brands myself), and fried foods (they accumulate metals during processing). Most ingested heavy metals are represented by lead from using tap water, which causes kidney failure. The water filtration device of choice is always reverse osmosis, or an atmospheric water generator. Based on these causes, I would recommend cilantro or chinese parsley. Also, some with kidney issues have high uric acid levels, and that leads to heart issues, especially combined with sugar and especially fructose.
The high blood pressure is caused by inelastic blood vessels due to accumulation of cadmium from chocolate and fried foods (potato chips and french fries) even if you haven't eaten them recently. The lead accumulates in kidneys, which limits kidney function. As a result of our basic understanding, PABA (1000 mg x 2) is used to prevent the inelastic blood vessels, zinc to displace the cadmium (25 mg a day), cilantro to displace heavy metals, and to improve circulation (as well as prevent heart attacks) use supplemental N Acetyl Cysteine 1000 mg x 2. The improved circulation is also helpful for the kidneys. PABA is needed a lot by the kidneys to prevent protein glycation and improved circulation. The astragalus is taken at least 1000 mg a day, in Western marketing it is often referred to as "T-65". Gum arabic is harder to mix and I prefer to use a blender at 7 to 12 grams of gum arabic in 1 liter of water taken throughout the day. It will resolve the kidney issues. The other essential is to take B2 or CoQ10; B2 maybe 50 mg a day, Q10 maybe 200 mg to 400 mg, using the ubiquinone kind.

I was combing the sight looking for your recommendations for my artery disease and along with it I found another recommendation for kidney disease which got my attention. Another friend of mine has Stage 4 Kidney Disease. As a vegetarian she does indeed eat a tremendous amount of fruit and her system is indeed very acidic. I have strongly suggested she stop eating fructose. Anyhow this is the other similar remedy that you recommended:
"Kidney disease is actually caused by three things in the following order: high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and the use of pain killers that damage the kidney. To help save the kidneys you must eliminate the three causes. Also, your friend should take Assam tea and essential amino acids--threonine and BCAA being the most important. Excessive uric acid does not only cause problems of the kidney but is a good predictor of heart disease, as the tiny uric crystals accumulate in capillaries of the heart and microscopic stones that limit circulation too. My question is are these remedies safe for someone with Stage 4 Kidney Disease and is one of these remedies preferred over the other for Stage 4 Kidney Disease?

Now, I wonder whether I could ask your advice. During the last winter here in Japan, I frequently stayed up until the early hours of the morning, sometimes 5 or 6 AM, working under freezing temperatures, and sleeping until 2 PM, or sometimes not sleeping at all. Then about two months ago, I suddenly found I had developed frothy urine which resembles a bowl of soapsuds, and after flushing this away, a mass of albumin is left floating on the water resembling an oil slick from a tanker. Of course, the doctor wanted to start me on ACE and ARB drugs, but my blood pressure is usually around 115/70 with pulse of 60, and my blood sugar is normal, so I am not willing to begin these medications. I am looking for a way to reduce the proteinuria naturally, which is also making my teeth hurt to the bone, especially when they come in contact with cold air, water or fruits. The dentist has not been able to to stop them hurting. I presume the calcium metabolism has gone haywire.
I naturally thought of Chinese and/or Ayurvedic herbs. But I found that in a Chinese herb-based kidney preparation I ordered on the Web, half the herbs were nephrotoxic. I was toying with the idea of going to China to stay in a Red Cross hospital there, and this hospital has sent me some packages of herbs which I am now checking for presence of heavy metals. Another hospital in China specialised in kidney problems proposes using packs of Chinese herbs placed on the back with a heat pad (micro-osmosis), which they say is superior to oral administration, but they also give injections of stem cells, which in one case was reported not only to be ineffective, but also led to kidney cancer. That same hospital is also very proud of their dialysis unit, which does not bode well, and their fees are in the range of $70,000-30,000 US for a short stay which makes it inaccessible to ordinary folk including me. Then there are at least two kidney centres in India, one of which claims to supply herbs free of heavy metals as well as a 70% cure rate, but judging from feedback on the Web, their treatment is not always effective. And I also know an Ayurvedic doctor in Sri Lanka who says he can cure me, although one must remember many herbs in Sri Lanka are contaminated with pyrrolizine alkaloids (PA).
I started taking oral sodium bicarbonate yesterday, and have not noticed any decrease in proteinuria. I plan to continue taking fish oil and prunes to try and restore some of the bone loss in the jaw, maybe I could make it less painful. I asked the visiting nephrologist at our local hospital in Tokyo to perform a kidney ultrasound, but due to my very good GFR, he brushed me off saying it was not necessary.
So I don't know what to do, but I am always interested in anything I can do naturally to reverse this situation. We can obtain supplements from the US, and we have a plentiful supply of black sesame seeds and watermelons! Incidentally, I read somewhere that oral supplementation of arginine leads to reperfusion injury or something like that, so maybe we should stick with the sesame seeds.
03/25/2012: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The best remedy used in Thailand is the Assam tea, prepared at 1 teaspoon in hot boiling water 2 times a day. It was found out that people with proteinuria have an imbalance of amino acid, just the ESSENTIAL AMINO ACIDS. The major amino acid turns out to be threonine (that's why it's commonly prescribed with lysine to protect the kidneys). The second most important amino acid is BCAA, the branched chain amino acid. I think Assam tea in combination with threonine and BCAA might do it. In some cases acid urine (or over alkaline urine) might be causing the problem. The pH of your urine should IDEALLY be 6.5 to 7.35. It is strays off course, the kidney will fail from acid burns or alkaline burns. The other problem is heavy metals (which usually comes for chocolate, cigarettes, Indian spices and most snacks) are high in heavy metals rivaling and exceeding in some cases Chinese herbal remedies, especially the cadmium, which causes high blood pressure and heavy metal damage. Stay away from fried foods, table salt, snacks, sugar, and fructose found in most drinks and fructose, which are found in all the fast foods today.
If acid urine take baking soda, if alkaline take ascorbic acid vitamin C. As to the theoretical arginine, its not commonly used, but if lysine is given, some arginine is needed. But I only require threonine and BCAA, threonine might be 1/2 teaspoon 4 times a day, and BCAA 1/2 teaspoon 8 times a day, as BCAA make up 3 individual components of amino acid, in proper portions. If that doesn't work then we just have to get all the essential amino acids.
The assam tea is very good against kidney proteinuria anyway and there are many reports of cures of kidney ailments thereby in Thailand.

Wonder why u recommend Assam Team for kidney disease cause it has lots of caffeine just as most black tea's have ? Some Malaysian herbs are good treatment in kidney disease yes. Heard that Marshmallow Tea or Peppermint Tea would be good for kidney disease.

12/22/2011: Diamond from Salisbury, Usa replies: I found that using cats claw for enlarged prostate was good, my husband has the same issues, of course he doesn't say too much. But I did a research for cats claw and found cancer patients and aid pt's are using this remedy therefore I am using cats claw because I have many illnesses one is a deteriorating disease the other is necrosis of the left hip which means I am decaying from limb to limb but the cats claw seems to keep infections out, I can feel the difference per se before. I need to leave sweets alone but seems impossible. Good luck. I hope the new year brings you better health. god bless.
01/12/2012: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Actually the common cause of prostate enlargement is due to progesterone deficiency in men, yes men do need progesterone now and then especially if you are more than 40 years old, and it will work overnight in some cases and apply just a little anywhere, say 1/8 teaspoon once every 3 days should be sufficient, but today the physicians simply remove them, which hides the potentially damaging effects of progesterone deficiency which could spread to the other organs, such as kidney condition. So I would apply that first, take some aloe oil, or aloe extract tablet only 50-100 mg is more than enough and don't take more of that, maybe just for a week. The extract you need far less than what the supplement industry gives you. There is assam tea that has been a proven cure in Thailand to help lower the creatinine levels and improve on the kidney function, it's a tea -- one teaspoon of it in hot water prepared as a tea and taken at least twice a day. It takes about one month to see improvement. Ginger root extract, or ginger root pills are taken twice a day with meals is fine, say 500 to 1000 mg, The most common deficiency in amino acids that has to do with kidneys is the threonine, 1000 mg x 2, and perhaps some BCAA at only a fraction of that, say 500 mg would be fine. Assuming the blood sugar is normal, my standards are always below 90 mg/dL, and most mammals are in fact somewhere below that too.
The most important thing is avoid artificial sweeteners and fructose as it is damaging to the kidneys by causing metabolic acidosis, where the urine pH is below 6.0 but I have seen in kidney or end stage renal failure it is actually below 5.5 pH. Getting the pH back to normal at near neutral at 7.0, or at least above 6.5 will get it back to normal as the acidic urine is one of the cause for kidney damage, the other ones that you know already is excess protein that is not essential amino acid, high blood sugar, high blood pressure (usually due to heavy metals like cadmium). Avoiding meats and consuming fish would be better. I suspected vitamin K2 plays a role here in hardening of arteries going to the kidneys, and eating butter (preferably raw butter) such as a small slice of butter once a day would help.
Doctor told me to take low protein Food and take a litre of water a Day. I have stopped taking meat and fish totally... and I'm on strict vegetable diet this day's.

12/25/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The general remedy is threonine, assam tea, ginger capsules, and N acetyl cysteine. Check the urine pH, it must be 7, if it is anywhere below that, especially below 6.0 you have kidney problems from metabolic acidosis, usually from Equal, Splenda, sugar free sodas, etc and also caused by diabetes. Threonine is taken at least 1/2 teaspoon x 3 times a day, and is the major limiting amino acid in kidney patients, the other one is the BCAA (branched chain amino acid), taken maybe less, such as 1/4 teaspoon three times a day. It is the quality of the amino acid, especially the essential amino acids, that is the problem among kidney patients. The most common cause of kidney disease is high blood pressure plus diabetes, and what was overlooked by most researchers is acidosis, caused by diet (aspartame being a major cause in Thailand) and that caused kidney disease. Ginger can be prepared fresh or supplemented.
11/12/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Well basically the kidney problems comes from a few things, one high blood pressure, and the second is diabetes. But there are a few that are overlooked. Most people with kidney problems tend to have acidic urine, do not drink enough water (urine is concentrated), high heavy metals, too many non-essential proteins. A rare event is very alkaline urine caused by an infection where there is ammonia smell, this is easily resolved with ascorbic acid, to get urine at least neutral.
The simple cure is obvious, urine pH at 6.5 to 7.0, drink more water so that urine is light yellow, soy protein or whey protein, control blood sugar to 80 to 90 mg/dL (by avoiding sweet fruits, and artificial sugar). xylitol is fine, as they are natural, they are found in raspberry, unfortunately the xylitol they sell in supermarket always have aspartame, making them unacceptable, now they are adding in chewing gums, candies, children's vitamins, drinks, supplements and they don't even have to put labels on it because it is a "flavoring". So you have to obtain pure xylitol yourself.
The high blood pressure is often caused by chlorine compound (such as MMS miracle mineral supplement, tap water, swimming pool water, etc) and chloramines, but also sulfites, and Monosodium glutamate, but that is minor, the real high blood pressure comes from salt and sugar taken at the same time, and cadmium and lead. Zinc acetate if taken regularly will displace cadmium while taurine will help their excretion, in some instances using N acetyl cysteine and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) will help as sulfur binds to most heavy metals. EDTA doesn't bind well for cadmium, but the others are, and other supplements do that too, such as spirulina and chlorella, though I don't have great success with these as sometimes (spirulina) they also have heavy metals too, so I tend to be cautious there. For chlorine sensitivity I found sodium thiosulfate to be valuable if taken one rice grain size before shower or before swimming and it does reduce high blood pressure from chloride sensitivity. People die in the bathroom with high blood pressure, because the chlorine causes high blood pressure and can cause aneurysm, heart attack, and cerebral hemorrhage. Yes I seen this happened. Another one that causes high blood pressure is airline travel, as the cabin is somewhat depressurized, I have seen a case where the plane trip, especially returning trip ended up in aneurysm, but because positive charges are acquired during these trips, you have blood clots too, and I have seen that happen, two of these conditions caused high blood pressure which in turn, leads to kidney problems.
The best supplement I have found that helps kidney (recovery) the above is to remove the problem, but one that helps recovery is ginger, followed by or taken along with arabic gum, and assum tea (we call it in Thai) so don't know that in English at the moment.
I am hoping you can direct me to a solution. I am having discomfort with urination, slight odor in morning. No blood, slight discoloration. Increase in frequency, hard to manage trips to toilet, need to go often. Doesn't feel as bad as a regular UTI, not as painful and burning. Was treated for UTI last year. I also am some lower left back pain. Female, 44, American. Malaise, aches, mood irritable. I was taking Lithium carbonate for years. Okay health, vegetarian. Usually I drink a lot of water. I cut back today. I tried the sea salt in water. Can you advise? Thank you.
07/16/2011: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: If the sea salt is not working, which is 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of sea salt one single dose, that's for urinary tract infection, then I can generally resolve the urinary frequency with humic acid, 1/10 teaspoon, in one liter of water, taken for a week. It should clear things out. The humic acid I used is powdered.
Dear Ted, I read all your emails very carefully and I must say you took my attention with your background and knowledge, especially in chemistry. Thank you for helping to so many people around the Globe!
I would like to ask you several questions about my lovely dad (85 years old) with chronic kidney disease (elevated creatinine, normal urea) from years, hypertension, and kidney suggested anemia (low Erythrocytes, high CRP & Reaction of ER precipitation). He doesn't have diabetes, but is very near as he was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. Dad have been treated for his high blood pressure with ARB, Furosemide, and beta blockers but not for his anemia as his HB 12, 8 (instead of the normal 13,5)and the doctors think that is too early he to be placed on EPO treatment. He takes also daily multivitamin, antioxidants- Alpha Lipoic Acid, vit C, vit D, pycnogenol, berberine, L-carnitine, 3 omega fish oil, B12-500 mg and the rest of the B group, lecithin, Co Q10 with digestive enzymes. His blood pressure has the tendency to be elevated, fluctuating between 149/80 to 180/100. Nothing from all his natural formulas helped him for his kidneys and BP. He used Chinese herbs Kidney well and Berberine but not much help with them either. Yesterday the MD found 1g of protein in his urine- proteiunuria. His electrolytes are normal, with exception of his Potassium that is reaching the upper referenced border, and Phosphorus - below its lower reference. He is on a low purine diet, low salt and sugars, no diet soda, but he craves constantly for bread, cheese, milk and fruits and consumes enough of them despite he should be restricting, because of his potassium levels.
My questions are the following:
1) Do you think he can start your (Soda, Lemon or ACV) treatment by taking into account his almost constantly elevated blood pressure? He suffers of GERD also.
2) Do you think I can stop or reverse his proteinuria and how?
3) How can I keep his blood pressure low?
4) Will I be able to help his kidney related anemia with natural formulas and which ones?
5) Any supplement that you think I should consider stopping or adding to his previous. I read that B1 helps with reversing diabetic kidney failure but he doesn't have diabetes, and also that vit D2 helps in case of hyperpathyroid status, which he might have in case his Phosphorus is so low.
6) Any specific ideas for eventual changes in his diet?

L-Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid that dissolves plaque in the arteries and is good for liver and kidney disorders. Best if taken with L-Histidine(a semi-essential amino acid). There's a book called Miracle Food Cures from the Bible by Reese Dubin, published by Reward Books that might be helpful to you.

11/02/2011: Joseph Brian from Davao, Philippines replies: To Annie, To lower the HBP in Chronic kidney failure, the patient must eat free cholesterol diet, low fat, protein from veggies, low fat, low uric acid food (animal food has high uric acid). Secondly, we should remember that kidney is dependent on physical work like walking in order our kidney will function normally. In his age 80 plus is very hard to recover for him because he is too weak for walking perhaps. If he can walk let him walk slowly. That is why it is very crucial to make our system boost early. Now, if the patient can't walk or do physical work I suggest to give him hydrotherapy. The concept is to cleanse and stimulate his kidney by cleansing and stimulating his whole body organs. Let the patient lay down in hot tub with concoction diuretic herbs along the hot water. See to it that the hot water is not too hot but not too low. He is just like relaxing in the bath tab with cold towel in his forehead. Test 5 minutes if he will not get short his breath and if it is okay continue for 30 mins. 03/21/2012: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: The main issue is that certain diets are causing high blood pressure, which is caused from snacks, processed foods, chocolates, previous smoking, and tap water. They are caused by heavy metals, mainly cadmium. Therefore the best change is to take 50 mg to 100 mg EDTA twice a day and stay away from the ones mentioned, and I am not kidding. These lead to kidney destruction from high heavy metals and high blood pressure! Measure urine pH to equal to 6.5 to 7.0 below 5 and above 8 is unacceptable. Apple cider or lemon juice with baking soda have a reduction in blood pressure.
Proteinuria can be reversed with Assam tea, BCAA and some arginine. Sugar craving will be reduced with glycine and glutamine. Some unexplained issues may be reduced with DHEA 25 to 50 mg. a day. His anemia is usually (my experience) the lack of iron, but not the kind of supplements that are commonly taken, since I used partially cooked liver, by that I mean small slices of raw liver in boiling water a couple of seconds. Try the assam tea it improves most of the kidney parameters.
My husband a 36 y.o. white male was diagnosed with ESRD about 2 years ago. He has been advised lately that dialysis may be needed soon, while he waits on a kidney for transplant. I am writing you because, when he was a baby, about 6 mos old someone overdosed him with baby aspirin. He was rushed to the hospital but he had turned almost completely black. All those years went by, and when he became a teenager and went in for physicals the doctors would always say he had too much protein in his urine, but they never told him he had any kind of disease. I was wondering if maybe this poisioning caused his, what we know today's ESRD. If, this did cause the disease process in his body, is there any way we can reverse the disease and possibly restore his kidney's functionablity to normal range. Please advise me on this subject.

For a person to have End Stage Renal Disease, the kidney has to be damaged over the long term due to bad diets, stress and long term deficiencies of certain vitamins, and excessive levels of calcium. High blood pressure and high blood sugar and seriously worsen the condition to dialysis also.
The kidney is an organ not likely to be damaged with a single overdose of aspirin, excessive protein supplements, calcium, pain killers, Cerebrex, sugar, aspartame, etc. However, when taken over the long term these can damage them severely and lead to ESRD. My personal favorite of getting a kidney failure quickly is the aspartame, oxalic acid (Colonel Joe's dangerous cancer cure using oxalic acid - this is pure disinformation and a recipe to renal failure). I find that oxalic rich food and supplements to be most dangerous this is followed by aspartame.
I was a teenager once, and also observed high proteins in my urine, but most of the people I believed found a cure without even talking to their friends, like me. The cloudy urine was a clue that something was wrong and it has always been associated with strenuous activities and stress. I found that taking supplements such as vitamin B complex, was helpful in reduction of cloudy urine and weakness or lack of strength disappeared overnight. That was sometime in 1973, so you can imagine how difficult it was to get vitamin b complex back then. The other supplement I found helpful was the magnesium, which I knew instinctively to reduce urine calcium. Magnesium is required for calcium utilization, and hence reduce calcium in the urine.
A cloudy urine can be excessive calcium or proteins. When there is high protein, it means the kidney is getting destroyed. An imbalance of amino acid can lead to catabolism instead of anabolism. There is always this delicate balance of amino acid that determines this. A catabolism can occur when certain amino acid is lacking, and hence taking some very amino acid can stop excessive protein leaks in the kidney in a matter of seven days, but that's for people with high protein in the urine BEFORE they have ESRD. The supplements helpful is arginine and citrulline. Taking too much lysine can cause this, but it is not possible in a human diets since most lysine are destroyed, it does happen if a person happens to be having Morgellon's disease AND taking too much lysine AND without taking any Arginine OR citrulline. The dose can be modest for taking citrulline or arginine, such as 100 to 500 mg a day for either, but if both then 100 to 250 mg would do fine, then it is stopped once the protein in the urine is normal. The catabolism is stopped. Most of the protein in the urine is usually glutamine, alanine, orotic acid and creatinine. So it is very likely you have to avoid those amino acids. Obviously a low protein diet is helpful with the addition of arginine and citrulline taken as a temporary supplements.
There is cofactors that helps in reducing these protein that I found as a teenager, which was the vitamin B complex, or more specifically, it was the B1, B6, B12 and B9 (folic acid). The ones to reduce protein catabolism, which leads to kidney protein breakdown is the B6 (pyridoxine), B12 and folic acid. The dose I prefer for folic acid and what we used in Thailand is generally the 5 mg dose, in general may require taken for a brief period of time 20 mg for about a week or two for most people with this problem.
A kidney can have excessive protein because kidney is broken down or digested because there is not enough of certain supplements that promote collagen, such as vitamin C, a little of lysine but must be taken together with arginine, proline and glycine. The collagen is actually made up of just lysine, proline, and glycine. However, in the collagen matrix, it is actually hydroxyline and hydroxylproline. To convert them to their hydroxyl lysine and hydroxyl proline, require plenty of vitamin C, WITHOUT calcium. The vitamin C that is needed DEPENDS on your urine pH.
If urine pH is acid, which means (in my definition) is pH below 6.0. I consider a serious potential kidney failure if urine pH is BELOW 5.5. Most people with a history of kidney failure has a pH on the average 5.2 or below. The acid digests and break down the kidneys. It's a long term metabolic acidosis, from diets high in artificial sugar such as aspartame as one issue, there are other diets, that lead to this, such as exposure to foods high in formaldehyde which is found in sea food. Its quite common for me to find sea food laced with formaldehyde to reduce spoilage of food here and to reduce cost.
If the urine pH is alkaline, and I mean over pH of 7.5, and has a bad smell, such as ammonia, then this is referred to as hyperammonemia, or excessive ammonia in urine. The ammonia alone can actually break down or destroy the kidney. Breathing fumes with ammonia can be toxic, so imagine how much it is for the kidney to handle that kind of insult. When ammonia is excessive, it kills kidney cells and leads to protein breakdown this way. Most autistics, ADD, ADHD, and cerebral palsy has this alkaline urine. Ammonia in urine and therefore the blood, is a neurotoxin. The ammonia in urine is often ammonium hydroxide. To neutralize them, requires that the urine pH is acid. This requires taking vitamin C ascorbic acid WITHOUT the calcium. We monitor the urine pH so that they can be in ideal range of 7.0, which is neutral. An acceptable range is 6.5 to 7.3.Â If a person with acid urine, then there are two supplements helpful, one is sodium citrate, the correct name is trisodium citrate. When taking that, the dosage varies until we raise the urine pH to 6.5 to 7.3. Usually my dose is about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ofÂ sodium citrate twice a day taken after meals 30 minutes.
As for the other vitamin B as in B1, the dose is 50 to 100 mg, B6 about 50 mg, and folic acid for maintenance, is roughly 5 mg, and B12 is 50 to 1000 mcg.
As far as amino acid is concerned, certain processes that lead to excessive protein in the urine is excess gluconeogenesis (amino acid that becomes fuel for glucose), ketogenesis (excessive protein as in Atkin's diet), taking too much BCAA such as Branched Chain amino acid) and the body DOES NOT break down the branch chain amino acid due to excessive protein intake or lack of digestive enzyme, usually the protease.
The the issue comes down to reducing the cloudiness of urine, avoiding oxalic rich foods, aspartame, eating too much protein, avoiding calcium, taking certain vitamin Bs or B complex, taking arginine and citrulline. It also helps to drink more water DURING meals. This will dilute the concentration of urine that is increased after meal. It is also important to monitor the urine pH, keeping in normal acceptable range, at least MY ACCEPTABLE range, which is usually between 6.5 to 7.3, preferably as close to 7 is fine. Unacceptable range is below 6 and over 7.5. The supplements to control urine pH, if acid, then it is sodium citrate and if alkaline then ascorbic acid vitamin C. But if urine pH is acid and vitamin C is desired, then I used sodium ascorbate. If I can't get sodium citrate, then I will use baking soda, or sodium ascorbate. Most of all, monitor the blood sugar and high blood pressure and keep them in normal range. Excessive blood sugar prevents kidneys from healing. My favorite magnesium supplements is usually the magnesium chloride, but the dose is generally low, such as 100 mg to 200 mg. I prepare them in drops of magnesium chloride solution usually 60 to 70%, and the drops I used is generally 5 to 15 drops, and averages 10 drops before meals, twice a day. Too much of this leads to laxative effect, but it also detoxes your system. Avoiding aspartame and pain killers, is important.
I am sure I missed a couple of things, however, this will usually cover most of the problem.

A normal blood pressure is often regarded as 120/80 (systolic/diastolic). All blood pressure medicine that I am aware of reduces just only the systolic pressure without any reduction in diastolic blood pressure. This is why renal failure occurs if blood pressure is 170/130. So the diastolic blood pressure needs to be reduce. I have therefore decided to find a rather imperfect solution to reducing the diastolic pressure myself, and the simple way the body works in reducing the diastolic happens to be sodium nitrite. The effect of relief will reduce the diastolic for most of the entire day, but is limited in reduction of such blood pressure during the night.
To be precise the diastolic pressure and the systolic pressure is reduced with the sodium nitrite, but is the only known supplements I know of that can accomplish in effectively reducing the diastolic pressure. Sodium nitrite is obtained by buying from most chemical suppliers, and if need be sometimes they are sold as bulk chemical and are relatively cheap. The dosage however is quite low, such as only 10-25 mg, or make a 10% solution of sodium nitrite and use a couple of drops mixed with 20% of sodium bicarbonate, to stabilize the sodium nitrite. A baking soda is absolutely required to be taken BEFORE taking sodium nitrite such as 1 teaspoon, plus if need be potassium citrate. Then it's followed by sodium nitrite almost immediately.
The blood pressure will reduce within less than a couple of minutes from 170/130 to 140/90 within roughly 30 minutes. If this is taken during the morning hour the dose should last at least 4-6 hours or as long as 12 hours only during the day.
It should be noted that this is actually how mother nature reduces or controls the blood pressure. The glial cells produces a signalling molecule, often referred to as Nitric oxide, or specifically speaking sodium nitrite.
However, sodium nitrite is very unstable in presence of bacteria, especially acid producing bacteria and gets "degraded" causing the blood pressure to go up sky high. Hence a couple of more remedies may be needed, to kill these. My favorite is erythritol, 1/2 teaspoon to 2 teaspoon dose every 6 hours. Of course erythritol is hard to find, but works the best, the second best is pure xylitol at same dose. In event those can't be found I will try the cranberry juice.
A potassium citrate or potassium bicarbonate is really required an alkalization is required. The dose is 1/2 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate (preferably sodium citrate) plus 1/2 teaspoon of potassium citrate (or potassium bicarbonate) in 1/2 glass of water twice a day.
In event of an emergency that requires the blood pressure be lowered quickly a good laxative as in milk of magnesia , or perhaps 2-3 tablespoonsful of castor oil (only for emergencies only) will quickly reduce the water buildup.
Because I don't have much time to do further research, I haven't been able to make or develop a way to control blood pressure during sleep. However, I do know what it is, and appears that the body uses the hydrogen sulfide in parts per billion as a signalling molecule through the use of 1-5 mg of sodium sulfide, which breaks down into this signalling molecule to influence high blood pressure during rest periods. A sodium nitrite or nitric oxide is the signallling molecule to control blood pressure during active state however, and it works fairly well even during high energy activities.
In any event, if cranberry juice can't be found, mannitol, mannose and xylitol are the ones I will use and works similarly in killing off the acid producing bacteria. I am currently exploring (if I ever have the time) into looking at sodium nitrate, and potassium nitrate in killing off pseudomonas and other acid producing bacteria which causes this condition also.
As a clue, a person with such high blood pressure need to consider controlling the blood sugar, which results in very high blood pressure. The remedy is 1000-1500 mcg of chromium polynicotinate. However a much cheaper solution is possible using food grade (or pharmaceutical grade) chromium chloride 1-10 mg in 1/2 glass of water. To aid in chromium absorption, some aspirin can also quickly reduce the blood pressure when taken along with chromium. However aspirin is not used every time and used only for emergency needs.
As a further hint to reducing blood pressure, I have found 1 tablespoon of granulated lecithin taken three times a day on empty stomach helps. It further helps that a person avoids sugar and fatty foods which is one of the cause of high blood pressure. The other one is the importance of alkalinity through baking soda and potassium bicrbonate. Lecithin will reduce fatty liver, and hence reduce blood pressure this way.
This is however a quick remedy for such emergencies.

As to the polycystic kidney issue, I do have some success in this issue. It seems that sugar increases the solubility of calcium of the bone and increases the serum calcium by many fold. The sugar increases blood calcium, which is one of the many causes of this condition. Lowering the blood calcium through the lowering of blood sugar is of prime concern. Of particular foods to avoid are potatoes (high calcium), fungus, yeast, mushrooms, fruits, sugar and artificial sugar. These are of prime concern. However, blood sugar can be reduced much more efficiently I have found through reducing blood glucose by chromium supplementation. A chromium supplement, with no calcium added, having between 1000-2000 mcg are the most common dose I have employed using chromium polynicotinate, with medium dose of 1000-1500 mcg. If I should use chromium chloride, because of their lower bioavailability I may take larger dose of this, such as 25-50 mg and seems to have a similar effect in lowering blood sugar. That's just only my observations. Bloot sugar must be monitored carefully where blood sugar are kept between 80-90 I think is a reasonable levels.
Monitoring or keeping blood pressure normal is paramount, as it will protect the kidneys. Some EDTA, such as 250 mg dissolved in 2 liters of water with disodium EDTA, for example, non calcium EDTA will help remove excessive calcium, but excessive amount will lead to bloody urine. The dose of EDTA is kept intentionally low an diluted to reduce the pressure buildup of the kidney from erupting.
CoQ10 I have found to be of prime concern in preventing kidney pain and support healing. My most concern is the healing that is also needed. Granulated lecithin is taken at 1 tablespoon 3 times a day will reduce fatty buildup and might be protective of the kidney problems.
In event of this kidney problem I think a 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of potassium citrate in 1 glass of water taken twice to three times a day will alkalize the blood and reducing the leeching effects of calcium from the bones. Both sugar and acidity from acid forming food causes excessive kidney issues.
If there is nay other things that may or remotely remove the cyst problem then I think iodine are of importance in normalizing the hormones so that the body can achieve greater balance. The source of iodine can come from two sources, kelp, you get more of it, but frequent dose may cause acne. I have notice there maybe some relationship between cysts in kidneys and acne. For some reason or another some calcium cysts are reduced in the kidney, but it pops out on the skin showing acne. This means if I know someone with a polycystic issue and take a lot of kelp such as 10 capsules, for example or just even 5 capsules for a couple of days, the acne comes out, but the polycystic is reduced or at least some of the pressure. The iodine that I have tested can come from lugol's solution taken internally in low dose of 5 drops per glass of water, a kelp taken at 1-5 capsules of 250 mg each, or even a iodine tablets at 10 mg. are the ones I noticed to work the best. It would seem that in some cases this condition exist more in people with high blood sugar, acid forming food, eat too much fruits, take too much aspartame and artificial sugars, and lack iodine.
There is one food I try to avoid and that is vegetable oils used for cooking. They seem to promote lipid peroxidation, which kill the kidney. This happens because vegetable oils have low boiling point, get oxidized quickly and its oils further damage the delicate cells of the kidney.
In other cases if the person who has polycystic and have depression, I have found certain heavy metal to be in excess which kills of kidney. One is excessive copper the other is excessive arsenic. EDTA may help, but cilantro and chlorella is a more practical option because they are easier to find in case of heavy metal. The problem exists that removal of calcium may be best initiated with an extremely dilute EDTA in a 2 liter bottle would be more ideal way to slowly remove the calcium found in cysts
In case pressure and pain is less from lowering of pressure from EDTA, this dose may be stopped (usually within 2-6 day) and then granulated lecithin is taken over the long term, along with chromium and diet control, but the pain I think will be helped with the CoQ10.
I am sure I have forgotten something here, but it should be noted that the common source of heavy metal contamination are wood treated with arsenic and the water faucet. If a hair mineral analysis is taken for people with polycystic kidney, it might in some people show that heavy metals might be the cause. At least for me I have noted the copper and arsenic,but there may be other oxidative metals involved. In any event if depression is linked, selenium supplements helped. If 200 mcg works for depression in only 4 hours, than 1000 mg usually lasts about a day and the selenium also displaces other heavy metals, especially mercury.and seems to reduce the toxic effect of arsenic caused kidney damage. But that's just my observations.

02/25/2013: Benni from San Diego, California replies: Just wanted to confirm Ted's observation re. acne and kidney/liver cysts.
Last year, when my adult acne was at its worst, I also developed cysts in my liver, kidneys, breast, ovaries, one in my diaphram area - all found via MRI, endoscopy and ultrasound. Radiologist said none were connected to the other, which I found hard to believe.
Before the cysts, I had, 3-5 months prior, begun taking Lugol's, Apple Cider Vinegar or lime juice, baking soda and borax (small, infrequent doses of the last three, less frequent than Ted recommends) regulalry in the hopes of improving or rectifying my chronic fatigue, and so I have some concern that the cysts were induced directly by either the Lugol's or the borax. However, a different way to think about it might be that I had some kind of low grade systemic infection that finally manifested in the form of cysts and that those things brought them to a head.
About 6 months ago few of the cysts burst, and caused blood in my stool. At the point, my GP took it as a good sign that the infections might be healing.
I am wary of antibiotics, having had a major reaction to Bactrim which caused hospitalization, so did not agree to take them to help clear up the cysts until 8 months had passed and they were still causing pain. I took a course of tetracycline last month because it's the only antibiotic that hasn't caused me trouble in the past.
This created fungal issues (brown tongue, itchy feet, mild yeast infection) and a severe flaring of my acne (after experiencing a few days of improvement while on the tetracycline. ) I still have some pain in the cyst sights, but not as bad as before the anitbiotics. The cysts are still there. I am not convinced that antbiotics are entirely responsible for the reduced pain because, while taking them, I lost my appetite and it hasn't really returned. Only eating fruit, veggies, a little meat, rice and dairy - and very small servings of those. Eating itself causes less stress to my liver/kidneys, and wheat and anything with a lot of fat in particular cause a flare of the pain. The antibiotics may have had an effect on my appetite, but I've also stopped eating wheat and corn, and eliminating those things usually reduces my appetite too.
So, the cysts seem better and, as expected, the acne flared up with a vengeance a few days after stopping the antibiotics. So I began taking Milk Thistle, probiotics, and am doing the lime/baking soda twice a day too (for the fungal issues caused by the antibtiocs).
I have, in the past, take lecithin, milk thistle and NAC for liver cleansing and noticed each time I took those, that my acne was much improved. I've generally attributed better looking skin to NAC and was motivated by the recent acne flare up to start these things again, but when I went to the store, the only thing I could find was milk thistle. My schedule prevented me from obtaining the other things.
The Milk Thistle alone cleared up all the "bacne", and greatly reduced the new, existing flare up on my neck. (Usually don't get acne on my neck - it is located in area of thyroid glands.)
I also began taking Lugol's again, 5%, but this time only one or two drops, 5 days per week. It is possible that it is causing the neck acne but I am also trying to fight this infection still, because the cysts are still there. Not sure whether it caused the cysts! But I stoped taking it 6 months ago and the cysts persisted, so it's a crap shoot.
Additional things I take are 1 out of a 2 per day vitamin made by Life Extension, which is the best vitamin I can afford. I stopped taking those for a while because my diet had improved so much but began feeling much more run down after quitting them. Decided to only take 1/2 dose of the multi; 2-3,000 mg of vitamin c, selenium, zinc, 1/2 of a 5 mg nutritional lithium (depression - really helps), 500 mg metformin (used for hormonal issues, PCOS related, not diabetes), natural vitamin e once per week, melatonin, xanax and tramadol as needed for sleep.
I haven't noticed improvement of any of my symptoms from lecithin, which I took for 4 months in granulated, non GMO form - 1-2 tbs twice per day. However, I may have lost some weight from the lecithin, and may take it again to see if it's true.
I think Milk Thistle and NAC, by supporting my liver and kidneys, have made the most difference in relieving the pain of the cysts I've had that are painful (liver/kidneys), and that they each have had a big impact on reducing my acne.
Last note, obviously, right now, the Milk Thistle is helping the most because it is the only liver support I am taking, but previously, I felt my skin became much nicer in all ways (reduced wrinkles, and reduced acne) from NAC.
As usual, Ted's most basic recommendation is working fabulously to clear up the antibiotic-induced fungal issues - baking soda with lemon/lime/acv, twice per day.
I am considering starting bht just in case my chronic fatigue is caused by a virus. I have shingle-like flare ups occassionally when under stress, and also have herpes flare ups. The fatigue started after a stressful period in my life in which I also contracted mononucleosis. A virus, I suppose, could be related to the cysts as well.
12/30/2013: Azurezea from Dallas, Texas replies: Lithium carbonate has caused cystic acne for my granddaughter. Changing to Lithium oratate remedied that situation with some time and correct nutrition. Hope this helps you.
What I am writing about today is a personal issue I would like your opinion on. I searched the site and didn't find much on reversing renal failure. I have been a Type 1 diabetic most of my adult life and on insulin. In the past 10 years or so I have been spilling protein in my urine and recently, after a severe episode of flu, went over the edge to stage 5 ESRD and was started on hemodialysis. This is the result of chronic renal insufficiency. Severe hypertension unable to be controlled played a big role too. Seems everything has gone downhill for me since then.
I am fairly new to alternative medicine and so this disease is far beyond what might have helped if I had started earlier.
Do you think there is anything at all that could help me reverse some of this kidney damage? Dr. ____, the author and advocate of hi dose iodine tx, has stated that this treatment can regenerate kidney tissue and recommended the ingestion of 10 gtts/day of Lugols iodine. I am aware that hi dose iodine can lower insulin requirements. He states it takes about 6 weeks to notice a change in bloodwork. What do you think?
I feel very trapped right now in the allopathic medical realm. They frighten me that I could die if I don't continue with dialysis, yet I still urinate, clear and fairly good amounts. I can well understand Joyce's point of view. My bloodwork for kidney function is indeed very bad. (Creatinine is 7.8, GFR is very low, and has not improved over time) Is it too late to hope for some improvement??? How I wish I had looked into alternatives and know what I know now, many years ago. Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: It is quite possible to reverse renal problems or limit their reversal.
The primary approach to allow renal reversal to occur is to remove two factors: one is blood pressure second is the urinary sugar. Assuming that blood pressure is high even if the kidneys did regenerate, it's not going to last, even if there were even a kidney transplant. Regeneration is simple if the two blockages were removed and aloe vera is taken as a means of regeneration.
There are ways to control the blood pressure fairly effectively, at least during the day time (sodium nitrite or nitroglycerine under the tongue) if one understands the chemical signals of both hydrogen sulfide and nitric oxide and the simple use of hard core trace chemical compounds of sodium sulfide and sodium nitrite in an alkaline medium. Regardless of our home remedies, the future is the use of these two compounds is going to be used by hospitals, but in very distant future. However, as most people would have it, finding these and mixing in their proper portions is a hassle and I would skip this issue as this is a home remedy website.
As a simple demonstration of the most effective way to reduce blood pressure there is is the use of sodium nitrite to reduce blood pressure as a better substitute over nitroglycerine, this simple chemical compounds will reduce BOTH systolic and diastolic pressure. The amount to use under the tongue is fairly small in amount typically it is between 5 mg to 25 mg. put in the tongue, or taken internally with plenty of added baking soda, such as 1/2 teaspoon in a glass of water to stabilize the sodium nitrite from degrading into nitric oxide gases from decomposing in the presence of acidic stomach acids and allow it to enter via the intestinal tract. Usually if it is taken in the morning, the blood pressure lowering effect will last the entire day. The effectiveness of reduction of blood pressure will decrease both diastolic and systolic pressure in a matter of 10-15 minutes.
The second chemical signal carrier is the hydrogen sulfide, often in the form of sodium sulfide, however, an easy substitute is either sodium thiosulfate or soy milk, without sugar. These will help lower the blood pressure which is typically high during the night and the effects of sodium nitrite and nitric oxide promotes are limited. I believe in a solution of 50 mg of sodium sulfide dissolved in 30 cc and used only within a week, adding 5-10 drops will reduce blood pressure during the night, but only if sodium nitrite was used.
The above is only a scientific explanation of how blood pressure is controlled. It is the primary mechanism how our body controls blood pressure. The nitric oxide is needed during the day, while both sulfide and nitric oxide is needed during the night. The sulide is needed to lower the cellular metabolism.
Typically when the blood pressure goes awry the primary cause, is neurological damage, especially with the glial cells, which produces sodium nitrite. Glial cells are damaged quite often from perfumery compounds found in consumer products, aspartame, artificial sugar, fructose in fruits, vegetable oil use for example. A regeneration of glial cells maybe possible if only the brain has a chance of recovery by resolving the common problems of acid brain symptoms that I have found to be common in U.S., often shown by irritability, lack of sleep, lack of concentration, and other relating to stress and anxiety. The acid brain condition to allow cellular healing can only occur if the brain cells become alkaline. The only know remedy by me is the old carbicarb remedy...this needs a revision of adding potassium, however the old remedy is as follows, and is best taken before sleep:
Old carbicarb remedy:
1/8 teaspoon of sodium carbonate (washing soda) plus 1/8 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in 1 glass of water taken at least 2 times a day, but it is best taken in before sleep.
However, in event of a high blood pressure, the second remedy is used, which I called imperfectly Carb-P-Bicarb:
1/8 teaspoon of sodium carbonate plus 1/8 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate in 1 glass of water taken usually twice a day.
The potassium will have a blood pressure lowering effect in event of people TAKING BLOOD PRESSURE medicine which lowers the potassium level.
In event of a high sodium level, typically 2.5-5 mg of lithium carbonate is used (NOT 250 mg of lithium carbonate!), it will cause a person urinate much more often by ridding of excess sodium. Alkalizing with bicarbonate is still essential.
The future of medicine, assuming free of pharma drugs influence is going to be the use of simple chemical compounds and chemical messengers which are a more direct method in solving biochemical disorders, but it's not likely to happen during this lifetime. Therefore, I prefer to do it myself.
Primarily people with high blood pressure have liver function problems and the typical remedy to increase liver function is 1 tablespoon of granulated lecithin taken usually once or twice a day. The lecithin, chromium, manganese, tungsten, and vanadium are the primary minerals involved in the control of sugar. Molybdenum might play a role. Iodine is involved in some regeneration of glandular systems and may help, too, which I used a mixture of sodium iodide and potassium iodide, often my own remedy is between 7 - 12 mg a day but usually once every other day or once every two days, during a short period of a month for example. The lecithin will generally help the blood sugar and the blood pressure by removing the fatty liver congestion leading to higher blood pressure.
As to the issue of blood pressure, a more practical approach for most people is the hydrogen sulfide chemical signal we can use simpler options such as sodium thiosulfate (which is a dechlorinator) as it contains trace amounts of sulfides present and for nitric oxide promotes we can use vitamin C sodium ascorbate instead.
Since this is a home remedy website, I am very much limited to using much simpler although somewhat less effective options, but those should be the best ways to start.
As I don't really have any information on your potassium levels, it can be found indirectly and not perfect. Typically, the salivary pH if it is low, is often an indicator of low potassium and sometimes magnesium. The typical measuring of salivary pH should usually be between 7.0 to 7.35. If the pH is below 7, then potassium citrate or potassium bicarbonate is taken at 1/4 teaspoon in 1/2 glass of water taken twiceÂ day. This remedy won't work with people on a vegetarian diet, as their diets are high in potassium.
My own experience with people with kidney problems has always been they eat too much fruits. Eating too much fruits, which should be limited to once a week and only in small amount can cause kidney damage two ways, one by formation of stones second by the effect of raising blood pressure due to its fructose content. Fruits and all sweets and sour foods are primarily cause kidney problems.
As to the protein leaks found in kidneys and creatine, it may indicate infection of blood infection. A simple method may require certain use of polyol sugars assuming the body is already well alkalized an urinary pH nears 7, that I tested personally is the xylitol, mannose and mannitol. These should generally reduce the bacteria colonies from forming reducing the protein leaks from bacterial infection, which is the primary cause. However in the event the renal damage is due to physical damage from blood pressure, then obviously finding an EFFECTIVE way of controlling blood pressure is going to be it.
In the long run, the primary control mechanism of a blood pressure is actually governed by the brain, such as the glial cells of the brain. If enough of them is damaged, then the body isn't going to produce sufficient chemical messengers as sodium nitrite to control the blood pressure, and hence the mentioned carbicar, or carb P bicarb remedy to alkalize the acid brain to allow brain cells to recover, along with omega 3Â fish oil, some aloe vera oil, lecithin, and perhaps, if possible piracetam and hydergine, taken at 4 days out of a week. This is a longer term remedy. A heavy metals in the brain may be primary blocks neural recovery and L-carnosine 500 mg and once every other day cilantro is taken.
As to the use of sodium thiosulfate to help renal damage I prefer to take one small crystals, typical size is about 2-5 mm in a glass of water. Initially it will have the loose stool effect but on the second or third dose this condition would go away. The sodium thiosulfate is neuroprotective and protects against further kidney damages by removing oxidative chemicals and is an antioxidant, but at the same time, removes heavy metals, and neutralizes toxic chlorine. In emergency care treatment the dose of sodium thiosulfate is much higher especially in the use of protection against cellular damages caused by chemotherapy. Therefore the remedy i mentioned here is quite conservative.
While I am certain other remedies such as iodine is useful, I believe in first controlling the blood pressure EFFECTIVELY and some ways of controlling the blood sugar through especially lecithin is the primary method towards at least stopping and perhaps eventual recovery of renal damage. Once the environment is favorable for recovery then usually nature takes care of itself.
If those is achieved, then I think iodine, Ted's ORMUS remedy (the simplest is 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt, 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in liter of drinking water ) and aloe vera and other remedies maybe useful.
But i believe the most important is to avoid vegetable oils, avoid all fruits, artificial sweeteners, thinner, benzene, chemical exposures are the major problems. Obviously you probably know about the benefits of magnesium and deserves no mention here. There's always hope as the old saying goes, if a looser quits he can never win.
06/29/2008: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: I think you should be able to regain some kidney function. My brother told me about a friend and client, who also happened to be a renal doctor, telling him that he was taking patients that other doctors said were in such poor health that they were not candidates for kidney transplants. Through good nutrition and use of vitamin/mineral supplements getting their health improved enough for him to safely do kidney transplants. I asked my brother if he had asked or suggested to his friend, that had he continued the good nutrition and vitamin/mineral therapy longer they might have progressed enough not to need a kidney transplant.
One other suggestion from me would be to stop all carbonated beverages, if you are still drinking them, because they are totally lacking in nutrients and harmful to kidneys in particular. Ted sort of touched on another thing, but didn't go into detail.
I don't think you are going to lower blood pressure as long as you are eating/drinking anything containing monosodium glutamate (MSG) or aspartame (and probably all other sugar substitutes). You can search excitotoxins on line, print out list of names hidden under,go to your kitchen and read ingredients on everything to get an idea of how much of these you are actually ingesting daily.
I hesitate to recommend magnesium supplements to lower blood pressure since most sources advise renal patients to avoid magnesium. One other question that arises is the statement "I have been a type 1 diabetic most of my adult life". What is now called type 1 used to be called "juvenile onset diabetes". What is now called type 2 used to be called "adult onset diabetes".
Type 1 usually developed in childhood, is thought to be connected to cow's milk ingestion and required insulin when first diagnosed because they produced no insulin at all.
Type 2 used to be found only in adults and they were started on oral hypoglycemic agents to augment the insulin that their pancreas was still producing. Now comes the sticky part of this information.... I attended many Medical Rounds at Vanderbilt while working at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville. At one of the medical rounds we were told that the biggest drain on the medical field was the renal patients and that most of these renal patients were diabetics. Several Medical Rounds later, we were presented with a study that said the two most used oral hypoglycemic agents used to treat diabetics DESTROYED RENAL CELLS. I don't think I need to point out that this means the medical field, in its educated ignorance, was (& still is) destroying diabetic's kidneys with its treatment of their diabetes. Same old story of treating for one problem creates another problem that kills them.
If someone is a type 1 and never on oral agents for diabetes, he/she stands a better chance of regaining renal function, than if he/she is a type 2 and had her renal cells destroyed by years of oral agents before being put on insulin. I kind of lean toward not destroying all hope, because supposedly we are creating new cells daily, and get a new body every 7 years. If this is so, then one would have a few good renal cells left, my thinking is that recovery would be slower, but possible if those few good cells reproduced more healthy cells. Good nutrition with vitamins and minerals, not additional drugs, are the best bet. I'm not that familiar with raw food diets, but from what I have been reading lately, that might be better, at least everyone who has made the transition, from cooked to raw foods, all proclaim to have greatly improved their health and joy in living.
P.S. I have just recently located another site that I am looking into named Advanced Scientific Health (ASH), which might be useful.One of the things that they are recommending is cesium as "the best alkalyzing agent known", which goes along with Ted's advice on alkalizing for everything.They are the ones that I am thinking about trying to see if it helps the tinnitus situation. I am also thinking about getting my brother on it to de-clog his carotid arteries. Although the tells me he can already tell the difference on oral chelation, with one clogged completely and the other one 70% clogged, I am trying to decide if it would be safe to have him on two different programs for chelating his arteries, since his kidneys have to eliminate most of the toxins, we don't want to overwhelm those 2 jewels.This is my brother who was given 6 - 8 weeks in l982 and is told that he is the only one they know of that has made it 5 years with the type of cancer he had. He has just had another bout in the hospital with pneumonia which they thought was from trouble swallowing causing aspiration of food, so they put in a permanent opening into his stomach for nourishment. Unless he makes a remarkable turn for the better, I am afraid his jet skiing days on the river are over.But then he is 81 years old now.
08/14/2009: A.n. from Los Angeles, Ca, Usa replies: To Joyce from Joelton, TN. A family member has adult onset diabetes which has been under control. I believe that the highest blood pressure she has had is 142/? The doctor has her on some kind of medication to control her blood sugar. I believe it is a hypoglycemic agent, gluco-something. She has now chronic kidney failure. She is not overweight, more like underweight. There is no rhyme or reason for this considering she has this under control and is now on a good diet. I would like to find out which of these hypoglycemic agents attack renal tissues and which are safe, if any. She has gotten to the point where her diabetes may be reversing, yet still under the medication but smaller dossage, yet, her renal failure continues. Where can I find this "study" or at least the drugs that attack the kidneys? Now another relative has been diagnosed with diabetes and kidneys are starting to go. I would hate to see her deteriorate because of medication. (She's been on blood pressure medication and cholesterol medication that may already have done damage.) Please point me in the right direction. I have not been able to find the link between hypoglycemic agents and renal cell destruction through any of the search engines. Time is precious. Thanks.
08/15/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: I heard this information during a Grand Rounds presentation at Vanderbilt Hospital/University several years ago. Tried to look it up on internet but could not pull that research project up. Wish I could remember the names of the ones who did that research on oral hypoglycemics and found they destroyed the renal cells, but one thing you can be sure of, it wasn't the ones manufacturing the drugs and it wasn't the FDA reporting on it.
However, I do remember that one of them was the sulfonylyreas (glyburide or Diabeta). I did pull up information on oral hypoglycemics (which these two were) and found that sulfonylureas and biguanides (Metformin or Glucaphage) both are contraindicated with renal (Kidney) or hepatic (liver) impairment. Contraindicated means a person with liver or kidney impairment should not be on either of them.
The best way to get information on any drug is to type the name of the medicine in the search window and keep looking.
Another thing these relatives should be taking in consideration of adverse effects on their health is the amount of monosodium glutamate &/or aspartame they are bound to be getting in all the diet foods and drinks. As we have discussed before, in l979-80, on routine physicals we picked up 4 children spilling protein in their urine. These kids were between 4 and l0 years old. After talking with the parents and being unable to find any explanation for why they were spilling protein, we did urine cultures (all were negative), and asked the parents to discontinue all carbonated beverages, letting them drink water, fruit juice or milk only, and return for a recheck of the urine in 1 week. Three of the 4 children checked negative 1 week later. The 10 year old that was 4 plus proteinuria initially was down to trace, but upon questioning the mother, the mother admitted that she had got a Mellow Yellow on the way to the clinic that morning. So I suggest that if they are drinking carbonated beverages, they switch to water instead and give their kidneys a chance to see if they can recover.
Dietary control, rather than drug control, is to be desired, which means better nutrition, and much less of undesired excitotoxins (monosodium and aspartame are the two majors). That book "The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Program", which can often be found in yard sales or thrift shops is much easier to understand than all the calorie counts and dietary changes that diabetics are instructed on. I can vouch for the fact that it is healthier eating than most of us do these days, you don't feel deprived or feel like you are starving all the time.
We have to stop expecting our bodies to function properly while insulting them with junk foods, highly processed foods, and toxins.

I am so glad you are out there with so much knowledge and with a big heart helping people from this desease. I am 48 with diabetes type 2. I took the antibiotic clarithromycin for about a week about 2 months ago and it damaged my kidneys and liver. When I realized one week and half later that I had intense lower back pain that went to my lower abs and then I wasnt able to urine normally, I figure it out that blockage had happened on my kiddney. I use ginger to remove the blood clogs, garlic and omega 3 to thing the blood, clearing it off right away. My diet was totally alkaline -only vegetables ( no sugars, fruits, proteins or carbs). After, about third week I felt good so I decided to had one meal with beans and chiken and next day I had steak. It was too much protein becasue the lower back pain comeback as well as the lack of urine output. I thougth that it will go away with my protocol of garlic and ginger, etc but I soon realized that I am not able to eat protein because it creates pain and stops my urine out put. My high blood presure is still normal (perhaps bacasue of the amount of garlic I intake). the blood test shows my Glomerular Filtration Rate of 76 (units mL/min/1.73 m2). My creatinine 0.8mg/dl. my total protein was 8.3 g/dl ( range 6. 3-8.2. This test was taking the day after the beans and chiken meal). I wonder what stage I am of this dease? what would call it? Can I reverse it? how long would it takes? How can I replace the protein? thank you and God and the universe bring you all the blessings. Elizabeth

To replace protein, to my knowledge, soy (soymilk or bean curd), lentil (legume), beans (if you are not allergic to them) contain high protein.
Raw vegetarian food (vegetables) and food that does not contain sugar or fructose, will help with diabetes.
There is lots of information regarding diabetes on line, google please.
Besides food, life style is very important as well. Sleep early and get up early, don't miss your breakfast. Do more exercise to burn off calories. Hope this help. Good luck!
11/21/2011: Rick from Dayton, Oh replies: Cut , cracked , or crushed watermelon seed tea is one of the few things I know that is good for the kidneys and is also non-toxic. Lasts for a few days in the refridgerator. Looks and tastes bland like clay water. Make sure no pesticides. Formula / recipe is a table spoon full of opened/ broken seeds, bring water almost to a boil but do not boil, wait 20 to 30 min. Before drinking, and use a quart of water I believe, It is a Cayce remedy , published in the IRF (publ. 1931? harcover ed. are cheap, like a dollar and 3 for shipping, and plentiful), individual reference file, is the book's name. Helped my grandma after she had kidney operation. It coats the renal tubes, etc. Just like clay would. And I think it is slightly alkalyzing.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: Usually a kidney damage often depends on what is causing the problem. Once the cause is identified, than we just treat the cause. The most common kidney causes at least in my observations are a couple I would look into, such as kidney damage from (the most common is at the top).
1. Acid urinary pH. Usually below pH of 6.5
2. Excess calcium
3. Kidney damage from fungus (from antibiotics, wheat, white bread, mushrooms, white flour)
4. High uric acid (from uric acid rich foods such as beans, spinach, shellfish) B complex and vitamin C ascorbate reduces uric acid.
5. High urinary sugar
6. High blood pressure.
7. Slow wound healing from kidney damage Most important is likely to be alkalizing the body, to cause urinary pH to be higher such as 6.5 - 7.35, or especially neutral urine, so that the urine pH, acidity won't digest the kidney, causing kidney damage. A relatively mild remedy is 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda taken twice a day, in 1/2 glass of water. Alkalinity will reduce the acidity, lowers the excess serum calcium, stabilize the pH, reduce fungus since they grow in acid medium, and at the same time, alkalinity speeds up would healing. Interestingly, I remember one research years ago that mentioned slow wound healing of damage kidney came also from lack of proteins in diet. A very simple supplement to both speed up the healing and balance the protein is the whey protein. Taken preferably once a day only in the morning with early dinner. A dinner means no later than 4.30 p.m. This will help the body reduce excessive demands during resting period, giving the body sufficient time to recover when there is less things is needed to handle.
I remember one case of a woman with a Morgellon's who had kidney damage, and was helped mostly with alkalizing, but CoQ10 also, helped a lot, although that required larger than usual dose, such as 500 mg was needed, per day for about a couple of weeks. In order for kidney function to return, the urinary sugar (besides the getting NEUTRAL urinary pH at the very least at 7, or at blood pH of 7.35), is important. Excessive urinary sugar causes kidney healing to be suppressed, as sugar supplies yeast, and bacteria with the food preventing kidney healing. This can either be made worse if urinary salinity is low, where only a small amount of REAL sea salt is needed. The exact amounts of sea salt that I can calculate is a good quality natural sea salt at 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt PER one liter of drinking water. This normalization of salinity in urine, besides avoiding COMMON table salt, hidden in nuts, peanuts, potato chips, french fries, potentially damages the kidney because these common table salt causes the urine pH to be very acid. My local common table salt pH is 5, while a local sea salt I purchased has a pH of 7.5, which is quite close to the body's blood pH of 7.35.
To normalize the urinary sugar, I have found urinary sugar to be higher than average because of neuro-endocrine damage, especially the nerve damage bought on by chewing gum with aspartame products, causing extremely acidic urine pH. So if there is non-believers out there on aspartame dangers, just take any diet coke or diet pepsi, or ny aspartame product. This will not only cause urine pH to be very acid, my record urinary acid was almost like vinegar closer to pH of' 4- 5, which very damaging to the kidney. I won't do this experiment again. It causes my urine to be bloody once. When the body is too acid, the nerve can be damage just by the acid alone, or the breakdown of the aspartame into methanol into formaldehyde.
Therefore avoiding methanol containing products such as aspartame helps a lot. However, methanol found in tomatoes are generally relatively safe as it is bound to pectin, but STILL, I will also try to avoid tomatoes and ketchup. Fungus like products also causes the body's pH to be acid, accumulate heavy metals, but also may cause yeast infections and other problems that damages the kidneys, quite often I will avoid, mushrooms, white bread, antibiotics (they are made from fungus!), pastries, yeast products, peanuts, yogurt, and potatoes, for example. Potatoes are high in fungus and it is too high in calcium for a lowered function kidney to handle. It is very important that I avoided all sugar products and especially aspartame. This includes all fruits, sugar, honey and aspartame. The approach should be fairly important to remember. This is something I cannot forget. I remember a mother's school friend of mind had a kidney function of 50% from diabetes. She died just from eating fruits because they say fruits is good for you and won't damage the kidney. Over the next 3 or 4 months kidney function continue to declined until she died because she can't stop taking the fruits.
Interestingly there was one month that they did stop eating fruit and kidney function went to 100%, then for some reason or another, didn't believe it and went back to a fruit eating binge and died. To help wound healing is whey protein usually is 32 grams per serving.mixed in a glass of water taken once in the morning at least. Another interesting thing is taking vitamin D3 or D2, at least 2000 - 4000 i.u. (which in my books is a low dose), helps with improving kidney functions as vitamin D normalizes wound healing and lowers the blood sugar to some extent. But in my opinion the reason why vitamin D improved kidney function was it raised the body's immune system, and this is synergistic with vitamin K. The vitamin K I used is a cheap brand, which is 100 mcg of phytonadione. Interestingly soy has high vitamin K2 especially Natto, but soy milk improved kidney functions too such as unsweetened soy milk. The reason is the vitamin K and manganese (which controls blood sugar). Also chromium (chromium polynicotinate), and vanadium (vanadium sulfate or sodium vanadate) are quite helpful too. So most importantly, I will try to get a pH meter and control my pH urine to near 7 which is neutral and as a neutral pH is least damaging to the kidney, as compared to any acid which tends to digest the kidney. Second important fact is the urinary sugar and blood pressure. The third important factor is to avoid certain foods that damages the kidney, especially aspartame, fruits, sugar, honey, and supplements those that control urinary sugar, such as chromium and vanadium. However, vitamin B complex usually the B50 form or a B100 form (mostly 100 mg for each vitamin Bs) is needed to repair neural damage and help the brain signal recovery to the cells. This is especially true of B12, but also B1 and B6. The B3, should use only niacinamide, while B1 the manufacturer should use thiamine mononitrate, NOT thiamine hydrochloride, since they are ACID, and not helpful with the kidneys. The B6 I prefer is the pyridoxine phosphate, not the pyridoxine hydrochloride, since it is acid also. Wound healing of kidney is most helped with aloe vera (but DO NOT TAKE yogurt - it is acid!), whey protein, CoQ10 are the most important. So I have no idea what is wrong with your kidneys, but most common cause, I do know.
As a small observation, paracetamol and pain killers (NSAIDs) damages the kidneys in the long run. I am old fashion and prefer to use aspirin (americans have used a form of this) as a pain killer as it has good record of long use, but only after I mixed them in baking soda (to neutralize the acid) and dissolve them in a glass of water, so that it won't damage the stomach. It is the tablet form being concentrated that is damages, but the ones traditional form of aspirin has always been to dissolve the powder into a glass of water.
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: There is a couple of remedies helpful in getting rid of the kidney infection. The easiest I used is D-Mannose, such as 1/4 teaspoon of it in 1/2 glass of water plus 1/4 teaspoon of xylitol. Those two are rather safe to use, and both prevents the infection from sticking to the kidneys. However, I may add 10 drops of 3% food grade H2O2.
If the remedy is not working, I may also try 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and 1/8 teaspoon of sodium citrate in 1/2 glass of water plus 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt. Sea salt generally helped me a lot with bladder problems, so that is why some sea salt is added. Whenever drinking too much salt and electrolytes get severely depleted and this could cause the body to leak more water. Hence one way to prevent depletion is 1/2 glass of water plus 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt, plus 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda and some magnesium citrate supplements. Urine output may reduce with the addition of sea salt and baking soda, but if both are added together may cause a laxative effect on the stool. But the good news is that the toxin overload is cleared by the stool and this will reduce the toxin overload on the kidney side.
In the past I have used various remedies to resolve kidney infection from 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1 glass of water twice a day, to 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt...it should be noted that WHENEVER I HAVE A URINARY TRACT INFECTION, it has always been that the salt concentration of my urine is ALWAYS LOW. I have a conductivity meter, where ideal conductivity is around 4500-5000 siemens and if I do have it it's always below this. So I take anywhere from 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt in one glass of water to 1 full teaspoon. The nice thing about this is I only take one SINGLE DOSE and it goes away little by little.
In another instance I have an aunt who also had kidney infection and she took roughly 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda twice a day, since she already ate some salty food, the sea salt was not needed. It resolved her kidney problem in 3 days after suffering for about at least 1/2 year or so.
In another case of a tougher kidney problem was taking cranberry juice, with sea salt 1/4 teaspoon in 1/2 cup, plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. The cranberry juice had d-mannose, and baking soda has alkalizing effect, while the salt kills the bacteria by hyperosmosis. I also found that if I can't get d-mannose, a xylitol would do, such as 1/2 teaspoon of xylitol plus some hydrogen peroxide and perhaps some sea salt.
What I do know about your frequent volume of urine is that the electrolytes is depleted and can help with taking electrolyte salts, or for me a simpler sea salt would do. Raising the concentration of salt to normal parameters and raising the bicarbonates in my opinion is at least needed. The reason is simple: excess urine looses both electrolyte salts and bicarbonates. However an effective form of bicarbonates for more severe problems is the use of sodium citrate, such as 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid will get you a weak form of sodium citrate, in case sodium citrate can't be found.
Feel free to email me and if I have more time, I might send other more information on this matter. However a colloidal silver may also help, but it should be added with a couple of drops of H2O2 3% before taking it to increase its potency.
07/01/2012: Mary from Los Angeles, California, USA replies: I found this post a few months ago, and it might help me with a lifelong problem and change my life. Thank you so much Earth Clinic. I have a lot of benefits to report since discovering you about a year ago, and will start with this post.
For now, I want to add more to the discussion on diabetes insipidus and urinary incontinence. I have had the symptoms of diabetes insipidus for many years, and over the years have of course gone to many doctors who didn't know what to advise.
Diabetes insipidus is not related to the well known disease of diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is an insulin-related disease (I believe either the pancreas doesn't produce it, or the body is resistant to it).
With diabetes insipidus, I believe the problem is with the hormone that concentrates urine: vasopressin. I think vasopressin is also called anti-diuretic hormone. I believe diabetes insipidus has two causes. Either the hypothalmus doesn't produce the anti-diuretic hormone (neurogenic DI), or the kidney is resistant to it (nephrogenic DI).
Some recent research may have identified a genetic cause, and the precise genes, that cause diabetes insipidus: http://www.ucsf.edu/news/2005/05/5265/newly-discovered-genetic-disease-sheds-light-bodys-water-balance (That article is more about "the opposite" of DI, in which the body can't expel urine because of too much vasopressin.)
I have not yet been tested for DI, but am hopeful that there might be a medical name for the problem I've had for such a long time, and that I might finally have a way to deal with it.
One question I have right now is whether or not DI can occur at various degrees of severity. Sometimes my urine does properly concentrate. When the problem does occur, however, my urine colorless and odorless, and exceeds the amount of fluid I've taken in (which always seemed impossible, so I thought I was wrong about that apparent observation until learning about this). It also coincides with increased thirst.
I've never dehydrated or had a serious emergency. For me, it's just a huge, huge ongoing problem in my life. Sometimes I'm almost normal. Sometimes the problem is very present. Usually I have the tendency.
It seems to be related to diet. I was recently reading about hypercalcemia as one of the possible causes of DI, and the relation of hypercalcemia to parathyroid hormone. I currently think maybe, perhaps, possibly, that this might be a related issue for me. Five years ago, I tested positive for thyroid antibodies. About six months ago, I also discovered I have a hard lump in my neck, and I think it might be a parathyroid adenoma. (It has shrunk about 30 percent or more since I've been following alkalinzation recommendations and other safe remedies I've learned about here. THANK YOU again.)
I don't eat sugar, and giving it up is one of the most beneficial things I've ever done for my health.
But the incontinence problem (colorless, odorless urine) has not completely gone away. It coincides with a sense of malaise that is very hard to describe, and I think it might be triggered by milk products. (Hypercalcemia seems like a real possibility for me. ) I tried the cottage cheese recipe from the Budwig Diet (and I absolutely love it), but it seems to cause the DI-like problem. I haven't systematically paid attention to this yet, but I went without dairy for some years when my incontinence problem was severe (near-total incontinence around age 45), and the incontinence subsided a lot within about six months during that time. With cottage cheese, it seems to come back. I'm not sure about this, but the milk/hypercalcemia possibility is something I'm going to be paying attention to now that I've learned about DI and possible causes.
As soon as I can afford it, I'll be asking a doctor if it would make sense to get tested for DI (there are effective tests for it), and hypercalcemia, and again for thyroid antibodies. I'll also have the lump looked at.

Hence, 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar plus 1/4 teaspoon (or 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda should be helpful. It is important that whenever there is a lupus problem that 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water (at least) is taken needed to get urinary pH to 7, or neutral, so that the lupus condition will go into "remission".
As to the UTI, the common remedy, for a more sensitive kidney is cranberry juice is drank all day, plus one single dose of 1 teaspoon of sea salt mixed in one glass of water. There is a huge difference between a common table salt and a sea salt. I would not try the common table salt at all since it is acid. It should be noted that if kidney functions are lowered that excessive calcium may have buildup clogging up the system, and hence 2 tablespoon of lemon juice plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water (at least) taken 2 times a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. The reason is that citrates reduces calcium buildup of the kidney, albeit rather slowly, so it will take about a couple of weeks to show improvement. As a clue, I have noticed many people who have taken calcium supplements and were not able to pee, or had kidney functions reduced, in which case upon discontinuation of calcium supplements stopped both the calcium clogging up the kidney and the lupus, however, sugar and white bread should still be restrained during that period, especially the cheese and oily foods. In a more severe case of calcium supplementation, sometimes it is helpful to take magnesium citrate and no calcium, plus the lemon and baking soda to reduce the problem. While I can't resolve all kidney problems a good clue for me is just to measure three variables, urinary pH close to 7, brix refractometer of urinary is at 1.5 - 2, and urine conductivity around 4500 -5500, would be sufficient. Sometimes the lack of salt in the urine (no salt diet) often brings on UTI and lupus. While too MUCH salt can also put a strain on the urine. The key is to maintain a balance.
A good balance might be to regularly add 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in a drinking water if the person happens to be eating an all vegetarian diets that is salt free, which is very common cause of urinary tract infection. Basically the bacteria just dies off whenever the urine suddenly becomes too salty for them.

As mentioned before, the use of a lemon and baking soda (2 tablespoon of lemon or lime juice plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda taken twice a day) will reduce the calcium buildup and hence will reduce the cysts. The most important element in a kidney failure is the need to control the blood pressure. A high blood pressure will damage the kidney organs quite fast.While I cannot afford most conventional medicine, I usually resort to using natural medicine by reduction of blood pressure, in an emergencies through the use of laxative, as being the prime importance.
While there ARE more direct methods (such as the use of trace sodium nitrites with baking soda), those are not easily available to the public, a simple laxative medicine I used is milk of magnesia, or the use of epsom salt (which is better form) and follow the instructions as per packaged laxative medicine.
One issue that is important is the milk of magnesia should not have other chemicals, besides the usual peppermint oil, water, and magnesium hydroxide. The epsom salt, should just have the epsom salt. Once the first bowel movement comes, the blood pressure will be reduced quickly.
Chlorine, fluoride, bromine (from white flours & white bread uses the bromine process of bleaching), vegetable oils, fried foods and COMMON table salts are my biggest enemies to high blood pressure. Bread and table salt, but fluoridated water and flouride toothpaste, and chlorinated tap water showers should be avoided just the same.
One example, is my own mother, who just yesterday, went to eat JUST fried chicken and NO SUGAR, suddenly had her blood sugar shot up to 170, the very next day,despite her usual no sugar diet. The negative effect is also seen from just salt free potato chips and french fries. A doctor at a medical school could cause the entire medical students to be diabetic within 24 hours just taking vegetable oils only.
People also underestimate the negative effects of free fatty acids from fried foods and vegetable oils (which came into existent in popular use in 1960s, and diabetes has been a main fixture just the same period.'
Hence it is important for me to avoid vegetable oils (high in trans fatty acids), fried foods, oily foods,and fatty foods, except ocassional essential oils (usually weekly) that the body needs such as gamma linoleci acid, omega 3, etc. To counter such negative effects, glycine amino acids can reduce such negative effects as it reduces the free fatty acids.Â
Alkalization, in case of a severe high blood pressure, another remedy would be more ideal such as 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate, in 1/2 glass of water taken 3 times a day, as one way to reduce the high blood pressure.Â
Common table salts should be replaced with sea salt,as companies tend to add aluminum compound to the common table salt to look nice, but that causes the nice looking bleached sea salt to be quite acid. My own common table salt pH is 5, technically a good salt should have a neutral pH of 7. A sea salt is much closer to our alkaline blood than a common table salt, such as 7.5-8.0 (our blood pH is 7.35).
Finally dinner should be avoided completely if at all posible during this kind of emergencies and if necessary might be replaced those with just eating carrots, celery (no salad dressing!), and other more vegetarian diets during the dinner hours, if there is a necessity to do that.
Giving the kidney a chance of recovering requires at least three important parameters thatÂ needs to be controlled quickly:Â
1. Blood pressure (most important)
2. Alkalinity (get a cheap electronic pH pocket meter, take frequently enough of the baking soda/potassium bicarbonate) to get the urinary pH to a close 7.0, a 6.8 or 6.9 would do fine.
3. Controlling the blood sugar is generally difficult considering that to reduce blood sugar requires the kidneys to work harder. And to take blood pressure medicine to reduce blood pressure makes no sense either as it causes the kidneys to work harder. The only way to reduce the blood pressure is to get rid of the excess water via the intestines, thus bypassing the kidney, and hence drinking more water and taking laxative medicines, while alkalizing is the safest way I can think of to reduce the blood pressure.
In addition to controlling blood sugar, adding 1/8 teaspoon or 1/16 teaspoon of cinnamonÂ spices, or the use of cinnamon oil dipped in toothpicks, that children use them as a candy can help the body control the blood sugar too.
However my standard way to reduce blood sugar is simply to take 1 tablespoons of granulated lecithin, twice a day. Once in the early afternoon, and another once in the evening.
If a high blood pressure due to diabetes, which do occur quite dangerously in the lateÂ evening,Â a best remedy I can come up with (helped save lives many times over with this one) and the simplest of all remedy is just 2 tablets well dissolved in 1/4 glass of water of aspirin, assuming the aspirin is 250 mg each. The blood pressure should lower from the sugar lowering effects of aspirin within about 30 minutes.
If a more effective remedy is called for adding chromium polynicotinate to the aspirin helps a lot. The aspirin is synergistic with chromium that controls blood sugar as aspirin helps increase the bioavailability of the chromium, which controls the blood sugar.
One additional remedy to help with cellular recover,besides lowering blood pressure, reducing blood sugar , and controlling the pH is the use of an allantoin supplement (only trace amounts) or ANY allantoin creams applied to the lower back regions where the kidneys reside. The allantoin allows the cellular recovery and repairs. Most aloe vera creams, and any allantoin creams will help in this respect.
Kidneys get damaged primarily (in most kidney disease) in the long run, by the urine's own ACID pH. Acid pH can be so acid, it causes the kidney to get digested, much like eating your own kidneys allowing the stomach acid to do the digesting. Usually kidney damages due
to such acid condition occurs whenever the urinary pH is below 6, but can get severely damage if the urinary pH is about 5. A neutral urinary pH, at the very least at pH of 7, is usually in the safe region, but a urinary pH of 7.35, is in equilibrium with the blood pH and puts the kidney stress to almost zero.
The second thing is high blood pressures can blow up the delicate capillary of the kidneys much like blowing up car tires whenever too much air was put into the the tires.
Sugar can damage the kidney the same, but it is not as severe as the first two. Sugar in excess simply prevents healing and the sugar crosses cross linked toÂ proteins to the organs. However cross linking can be reduced with l-Carnosine, 500 mg three times a day.
Green tea no sugar no milk can also reduce the tightness and free radicals as well as blood sugar to some extent if they were taken three times a day.
Reduced tigntness effect and diuretic properties should help with such problem, but I prefer to deal with getting some improvements of alkalization, blood pressure, and sugar first.
One of the most common death I have seen from diabetes and kidney disease besides the hospital infections as a result of using a dialysis machines from I.V. is that people do not use aspirinÂ as a means to contolling blood sugar and high blood pressure.Aspirin as I have found is quite good in controlling blood pressure caused by diabetes. And a long term kidney problems due to excess acidity of urine, leads to kidney damage. Alkalization can help.
The one area I haven't mention is kidney disease from excess calcium (where citrates from lemon and baking soda, and magnesium can help) and excess uric acid (where lithium supplements 5-15 mg can help). Those are usually of non-diabetic kidney problems.
The body can heal if we just give the body an environment favorable for a recovery.
A stroke, can be reduced or prevented if a regular magnesium supplements, aspirin, and alkalizing, especially the use of a baking soda and lemon remedy. The baking soda is 1/2 teaspoon plus 2 tablespoon in 1/2 glass of water, taken twice a day, once in the
morning and once before sleep. Citrates reducesunnecessary calcium buildup in the body, which leads to blood clotting, and this is why a citrates is added to blood banks to that the blood recipient won't die of a stroke whenever a blood is received.

This happens also when our stomach digests any food using the stomach's acid. So one way to protect kidneys against destruction from excess acidity is to at least get urinary pH to neutral, or within biologically healthy pH nearer to 7.35. Hence, baking soda 1/2 teaspoon in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day may be a better choice as it directly raises the pH of urine rather fast. In case of my relative, her tests of a kidney problem (where her urine became bloody) and had an infection was tested negative after only 3 days of supplementation of baking soda. If a more precise in increasing/decreasing dose necessary to achieve 7- 7.35 pH, the kidneys should at least have a chance for recovery. Therefore, I think a safer choice would be taking baking soda. Assuming the following most common causes are either high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney infection, glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease, kidney stones or kidney infections being the most common ones.
High blood pressure can be dealt with by reducing high blood pressure through simple reduction in sugar, fats, and more alkalizing remedies. The alkalizing remedies either apple cider vinegar and baking soda or the lemon and baking soda seems to reduce high blood pressure, by promoting the body to a laxative mode, so the fluids retention are reduced that way. It helps quite a lot to add about 1/8 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate to the original apple cider vinegar and baking soda remedies, or the lemon and baking soda remedies. The alkalization also reduces the body's buildup of calcium through a reduction in leeching effect of the acid blood on the body's bone, whereby reducing the excess serum calcium which tends to cause excess calcium buildup causing polycystic kidney disease and kidney stones. The reduction in blood calcium has the advantage of preventing bacteria or mycobacterium attachment to the calcium which will also reduce as well. As for the glomerulonephritis, my own experience is to simply reduce the inflammation such as the use of lavender oil. However glomerulonephritis is an antibody response, but my own experience is they happen because bacteria or mycoplasma attached to the body's cells caused the white blood to attack it own cells. The way to loosen that grip at least from my own observations are plenty iodine supplements and reduction in fungus, either through the use of borax 1/8 teaspoon in one liter of drinking water once a week, and/or the use of vitamin D4 20,000 I.U. but I think should be taken together with the magnesium supplements to balance the critical magnesium:calcium issues too. It is the boron found in borax which also helps balance the magnesium:calcium ratios too.
As a general remedy for kidney problems it is necessary for me to control four parameters: blood pressure, urinary sugar, urinary pH, and urinary cloudiness.
Blood pressure or reduction within normal parameters can be done traditionally by use of diuretics. But this point doesn't make sense if the renal function is impaired, in which case the reduction of water retention makes more sense in the use of laxatives in a severe case, or a milder case of using alkaline acv+baking soda through more frequent bowel movements which would also reduce fluids thus bypassing the damaged renal function.
Basically I used a brix refractometer (the 1-10 scale) where the normal brix is about 1.5-2, so if the urine Brix reading (which measures sugar level of urine) is above that value, such as 5 or above, I would drink more water until the values goes to about 2. Once the body is diluted sufficiently with water, the urinary sugar concentration is reduced to normal allowing a chance for a kidney to heal whenever the parameters of the fluids become normal. There is little chance that if the body's fluids become abnormal that they will miraculously recover.
The second value I need to get normal is the urinary pH, which using a simple 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/4 teaspoon citric acid plus 1/8 teaspoon of potassium bicarboante in 1/2 glass of water, taken a minimum of two times a day necessary to raise the urinary pH to about 7 or close to 7.3 where the blood terrain pH is about 7.3. If the kidneys were able to bathed in such a normal pH parameter that is considered healthy, the alkalinity would give it a much better chance of recovering than, a kidney subjected to acid baths, where its pH is below 6. If a kidney is in an acidic urine for long enough time, it would eventually gets digested by the acid, as similarly as stomach digesting foods we eat everyday.
Urinary cloudiness sometimes indicate excess proteins (from infection) and sometimes from excess calcium. In most cases it is from acidosis which cause excess calcium and I have found magnesium citrate 250 mg. and vitamin B complex to be rather helpful. However, I believe vitamin B complex should not be taken everyday as they are acid forming from the vitamin B6 which is often in a hydrochloride form, and instead taken 2 times a week, while magnesium citrate can usually be taken at 5 days out of a week, so that the body can balance out the critical magnesium: calcium, where most of the diets are too little magnesium anyway.
Basically to recover renal function, getting urine pH to 7.0-7.3 through alkaline remedies mentioned, re
ducing urinary sugar to 1.5 or 2 by drinking more water, reduction of high blood pressure through the use of alkalinity or laxative, depending on the seriousness of the blood pressure, and reduction of calcium and infection through the use of alkalizing remdies or aromatherapy such as lavender oil applying to the back area. The strategy is simply to get the body's fluids to normal parameters and once it is within normal parameters gives a chance for the kidney function heal itself.

Generally the reason why polycystic kidney exists is that the cells as inability to rid of calcium from inside the cells. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the serum calcium using a simple remedies, but mostly low calcium diets is necessary, but also reduce blood serum calcium is just as important. The remedy for this one (at least for an adult dose) should be closer to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon of citric acid in 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day. The resulting chemical reaction is sodium citrate, and the solution generally alkalizes the body (reducing the leeching effects of the bones) thus reducing the serum calcium level. However, the citrates also have some chelating properties in reducing some calcium from the blood just as well.
In a child's remedy the dose is reduced accordingly based on the child's weight. If a typical small adult frame is 120 pounds, and a child is 1/2 that weight, then the dose is one half that.
As to other things, I would likely to consult or at least reduce high calcium diets so that calcium does not destroy the cells prematurely and can buy some time.
Vitamin C also reduces some calcium and the sodium ascorbate (mixed with ascorbic acid) can also reduce some serum calcium level which can help ease the cells riding of calcium easier from inside the cells as well.

My own experience with kidney failure is often when urinary pH is between 5.0 to 5.5 but often times it can be as low as 4.5.
Therefore, taking 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda with 1 glass of water taken about twice a day should notice some relief in the kidney problems.
It takes two weeks to notice some improvement. In case of my own aunt who had kidney failure pending a surgical removal it took her 3 days of taking about this same amount or a bit more like 1 teaspoon of baking soda twice a day plus 1/2 glass of water for 3 days before the doctors decided her kidney was completely normal.
Kidney failure can have all kinds of causes, but the most common problem I do see is excess acidity of the urine.
If you are a perfectionist, a urinary pH precisely at 7 or as high as 7.34 is a pH that is unlikely to be acid to begin with, so it at least will give a chance for the kidney to recover.
An exception is that in case the kidney failure is of a diabetes complication, then it would appear treatment of avoiding strict no sugar diets to be very important to reduce that first along with the usual baking soda needed to raise urinary pH to at least 7.0, being neutral is the best figure I can imagine where there is practically speaking no acid that can destroy the kidneys.
There are other causes of kidney failure, but the information you supply me is lacking in details. I am therefor giving you a general ones that had worked for me the best.

A little known cure for kidney disease is vitamin D4 taken at 50,000 I.U every week for about 1-2 months. I prefer a 20,000 I.U. per day for 1 month then every other day on the second month. The dosage that a person who was relieved of a kidney problems was vitamin D4 is 20,000 I.U. per day for about a month. (D3 didn't get nearly as good a result as D4 with this person).
Kidney disease is also caused by a blood sugar problem. Many people have diabetes before getting kidney disease and when sugar is high, the kidney just quit. Therefore, controlling blood sugar is important and the other issue is pH issue. To normalize your pH just take 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon of citric acid. NO SUGAR. This will taste good. A mix will cause the formation of sodium citrate which is a sequestering agent for calcium. Removing excess calcium buildup as wells pH optimized using this should help relieve many conditions of the kidney. For some reason, this formula may normalize blood sugar, for unknown reasons.
The other issue is detoxification. In kidney issues you need to take chinese parsley -- cilantro -- (removes heavy metal), avoid calcium, drink dechlorinated and defluoridated water. To make your own dechlorinated water, get a dechlorinator (without the colors and ingredient clearly labeled: sodium thiosulfate). Put a couple of drops in a glass of water. This will remove the chlorine from water. Always put more than you need. We need to detox your body with a dechlorinator too. Alway add a small pinch of borax to the water. Borax, chemically will prevent fluorides from reacting in your body and effect kidney problems.
Other detoxification might help such as adding a pinch or two of bentonite to drinking water will remove toxic buildup in the intestines.
Most important of all, control your blood sugar. Experiment taking 1-2 teaspoon of sea salt. Some people claim improved kidneys, primarily from the minerals in sea salt that our body needs.

To control kidney failure bought about by high blood sugar, it is funny that a simple vitamin B1 in a certain form worked better than the ever popular Metformin (Glucophage). The reason I know is my mother had diabetes, she claimed two things - because she is a sensitive seismograph - that vitamin D and vitamin B1 controlled her blood sugar to normal.
Even on days she forgot to take glucophage. I got suspicious and checked the information. It turns out she was right. Here is the citation that showed vitamin B1, did in fact control the blood sugar, preferably in the form they mentioned. I am checking now to see of Thiamine hydrochloride might work also. When the body fights a fungal type or bacteria, there is protein die off which shows high in the kidneys. Too high and it clogs up the kidneys. The only way I know to reduce this problem is to reduce the body's inflammatory process, the easiest way I have found out is whenever the dietary are low in zinc, low potassium, low molybdenum, low sodium, low boron and high in acidity, excess excitotoxins amino acid the body's inflammatory process goes sky high. For example, most problematic amino acid excitotoxins comes from phenylalanine, monosodium gluatamate, and especially aspartame, but also the usual chlorinated and fluoridated water. 1/8 teaspoon of sodium carbonate (washing soda) plus 1/4 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate and 1/8 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate in 1/2 to 1 glass of water taken three times a day. It is the potassium bicarbonate and the sodium carbonate components which reduces the inflammatory process by neutralizing the fungus, as they only grow in the presence of metabolic acidosis, often triggered by aspartame (sugar free chewing come and diet coke), hydrocarbon (such as benzene found in coke from sodium benzoate used as preservative). These called metabolic acidosis which triggers an inflammatory processes, leading to excess proteins in the urine. It should be noted that I make a distinction here between a bicarbonate and a citrate. A bicarbonate or carbonate is what triggers reduction in inflammation, by killing off the targeted pathogens, while certain excitatory alkalization such as potassium acetate, potassium citrate does not lead to cellular relaxation to cause healing as this merely makes the cell more activated and thus more acidic, since acetates, malates, citrates are fuel for the mitochrondria's Kreb Cycle within the cells and therefore a simpler bicarbonates and carbonates works better. The carbonates is an interesting element in reduction to inflammation since they absorbs carbon dioxide and carbonic acid inside the body, leading to lower CO2 pressure and lower Carbonic acids. High carbonic acid, because it's an acid leads to inflammation, whether they be in excess amounts in the kidneys or various other parts of the body, leading to an inflammatory responses. There will be a reduction in protein in the urine such as Cq1 when the body acquires sufficient alkalinity if taken for the next 3 to 4 weeks and some improvement is possible before the month is out.Once a week or twice a week 1/8 teaspoon of real natural SEA SALT in 1/2 glass of water are at least needed to restore the lack of salinity in the urine to further reduce pathogens which leads to an anti-inflammatory responses.
In the long run, after the inflammatory problem is taken care of, quite often the body may need some balance protein and amino acid supplements such as Whey protein, taken only once in the morning so that a protein depletion don't occur or at least the anti excitatory proteins or amino acid are held in balance leading to longer term reduction in inflammatory response.

My 19 year old daughter had 3 lapses of hemolytic uremic syndrome at age 2, 4 and at 5 1/2. She had many plasma transfusions, plasma exchange and many whole blood transfusions for many years until probably the age of 10 or 11. But since the age of 2 she has had to be on blood pressure medicines because of kidney damage. Now at age 19 her doctor took her off of enalapril because of the side effects it would have on a fetus. She has been on enalapril for several years, and is also on norvasc. She was put on clonidine instead of enalapril and swelling started. We went back to the Dr. And I wanted her off of clonidine because I said she had bad reaction to clonidine when she was very young where she thought ants were biting her. I had to go somewhere else to get her off of the clonidine and the swelling got worse. She is taking a pill (can't remember name of it) for fluid. Did blood work and creatinine now at 1.8 (usually hers is 1.2) and they said there is a lot of blood and protein in the urine, blood pressure is never lower than 120's over 80's.
Wondering if maybe baking soda drinking it or bathing in it would help her. Also her white count is good. Would love to see her live w/o high blood pressure medicines. But I think she needs to get back on enalapril (I've read where it helps protect kidneys). She has also lived on CoQ10, olive leaf, alpha lipoic acid, grape seed extract. She drinks bottled water. Doesn't eat a lot of meat but eats a lot of cheese and potatoes. She is not over weight. Forgot to say she is also very anemic H/H 8. 7 and 26. BUN is 39. Please give your opinion of her situation, Thanks. Renea
P. S. She hasn't been on antibiotics in years, I give her oil of oregano and garlic when she is coming down with something and really we only go to Dr. for her kidneys. She looks great and is normal except for her kidneys.
